Harvesting The Urban Worm Bag

Jun 08, 2021
Hi everyone, I'm Emily, go crazy, I'm a lady. I don't know about you, but today I'm ready for a harvest in the bag version of

urban

worm

s - this is the bag we transferred the contents of version 1 here into once they arrived. I was left with nothing or came out with all the upgrades, so today I'm going to go down, try to get a good harvest from here. We'll take a look at that and hope I don't get too dirty. I'm still trying to do it. work on maintaining the proper consistency of these bag systems and then we will definitely stuff this bag again today so let's get to the bottom of it and move on alright guys so I'm ready for the harvest of the

urban

worm

bag version. - let's see if I can angle this up a little so that it has double zippers on each side that you can open to access the crop panel, but I'm going to see if I can do this for now because of the angle I have.

I'm trying not to get in the way too much, although unfortunately the way I placed this bag on this flap actually opens right where I want you guys to be able to see, so this interior drawstring lining protects the zipper and I don't. I don't see any worms down here, this is all clean, so I'm going to open this cord, let's let some compost out again. I'm worried about whether it will be too wet or not, but right now it's flaking beautifully here. I see some of the newspaper that I put up to protect the zipper when I first installed this falling off, a lot of springtails, but all my systems have springtails, but this is just fantastic what I'm getting out of here and doing all these harvests and I'm really very impressed with these pieces of newspaper I put here to protect the zipper when I transferred the content from version one to this version, which is the only version still available.

More Interesting Facts About,

harvesting the urban worm bag...

They made some updates especially with this harvest panel. and I see some worms, but since I transferred these contents from one bag to another, I'm sure it would take longer for the worms to climb to the feeding area at the top, so I'm not really worried about that. You know, I'm much more concerned about consistency, you can always scoop the worms out of the compost as bait, but with this continuous flow through x' you always want to worry about whether you're going to get muddy or flaky castings and so far this looks beautiful. I'm going to try to fill this tray with mortar, then we'll take a look at the compost we got out of here and then we'll come back and feed this bag, but at least for now as far as it goes.

I'm getting unstable, well guys here's the final product of the harvest we just made and the improvements you made with this bag absolutely worked like I said, the reason I'm going to have some worms here is because I transferred contents from one. bag in another, so some of the top material mixed with the bottom, but overall there aren't a ton of worms and I can easily bait them out or just let them go to the garden, but while my first harvest on version one was very wet I think I finally figured out the method for maintaining good moisture and this chocolate muffin test that you squeeze holds its shape but then it just crumbles and that's the perfect consistency of your compost so there's a handful of little bits of this probably it was a rag that didn't break up some pieces of newspaper that I used on the bottom to cover the bead area when I first transferred everything here, but overall there is very little. raw material, non-compostable tea bag wrappers, I'll be finding these for months, but I think now that I've been

harvesting

some of my different systems and realized how easy it is since there was some adjustments and I learned the system. more I want to start trying to set a goal of

harvesting

every three to four weeks to get a constant flow of compost and keep the system running properly.

If you let some of these systems get too compacted, that's when you end up with moisture. problems and this is exactly what I want, so I'm going to throw it in my giant bag full of castings. I might put a small cup of bait in there, I also did a Fermi bag harvest so I might try to get just a few worms out of here but there. There really aren't many, so even if I miss a few, it's not a big deal, but I can't get over the quality of the subscription. This is exactly what you would want and expect and it is working, so let's jump in and feed the animal. lower the level so we can start getting more top feeding and the level will go down and we will have more room to feed and continue harvesting in the future, but I can't say enough about the urban worm bag and vermi.
I really love all of my bag systems, they are fantastic, so if you are ever interested in purchasing an urban worm bag, I have an affiliate link below, you can check out what they have available, but I definitely recommend it with difference. Bag systems are my absolute favorite, so without further ado, let's jump in and feed this bag, so I'm going to pull back the cover here, we'll jump in here and take a look to see how we can reach the level. it goes down like it's supposed to and feeds these guys off, so let's take a look here and see what the worms look like.
All the food that's been here is completely processed, but it looks pretty good. I mean, everything is really finished. here, so I'll be able to continue harvesting this relatively frequently. I'm sure I bought mounting the camera where I did it would be fine, but I think it shakes a little. I apologize for that, I'll get it right one of these days. but yeah, no sign of food anywhere, very little bedding, still, if you look here, the levels went down, it's because they've been here for a while and they've been compacting the food as they eat it, but there's still some space at the bottom.
And so what you do with these bag systems you can't see what I'm doing. What I'm going to tell you is that you go to each side with your hands and hit it and you can do this several times. I do not do it. I'll do it because it shakes everything up, but I'll do it a few times over the next few days and when you hit it, some of the compost comes loose so it will fall back to the bottom where it belongs, but I mean some people will put their hand down. . I just don't think it's necessary, so I'm not going to do that, but I have a lot of food and a lot of bedding today, so I'm just going to put in a few handfuls of something. dry cardboard, although it actually feels a little dry here compared to what I'm used to and the quality of that compost shows me that even if I wet it a little more, these worms would be fine, the compost would still be fine. so I'm going to go a little light on the bedding because I'm going to cover it with some as well, but today I have two big bags of food, they're actually still partially frozen, but it's a healthy amount of food. here for sure the other bag looks like it's female weight yeah all brown which should be interesting because springtails always seem to like coffee and this won't even break down too much for me so this should be interesting because there's going to be a big bunch of water dissolved in this bed, so I'm going to cover it to make sure it doesn't flood the bottom, although I don't think it will because the coffee tends to dry out anyway, but I definitely want to be careful.
I can get hot but it can also dry me out, so you just need to monitor it, but I'm going to put some bedding on top of all this. I think they're going to get involved. very quickly, so I'm not too worried about covering it very, very well because I think that in a short time it will be ready, so it shouldn't smell as much. That's the great thing about these bag systems that they can be completely closed. shut up, you really don't have to worry too much about smells or bugs or anything like that. You'll have minimal activity with that sort of thing.
This is in my dry mix, the sand, the trace elements and some insect control. The ingredients are always left listed below it is not entirely necessary. I just find it to be a good combination of things that work pretty well for me and that's literally how I'm leaving it this week. I'm not going to go overboard burying everything very well. We are gonna give. It's a week for hopefully the level to drop a little bit more, I'll take note of what the level looks like, maybe it's about five or six inches from the top right now and hopefully it drops a little bit more to as all the fertilizer goes down. but that will be all for today guys, I'm super excited about the harvest.
I'm going to start harvesting this more often, the constant flow of compost, my neighbors, my garden, everyone will be delighted with me if I can continue to do it. That's right, let me know what you think. Leave those comments below, like this video, subscribe if you want more content from me and I'll be back with you very soon for an update. Have a great day.
