Gardening TikTok Compilation | How To Grow Your Own Food

Gardening TikTok Compilation | How To Grow Your Own Food
i literally have nothing to say except that i made this this came from my hands i i made this so this is me four months ago in the middle of the coven pandemic when i decided hey why don't i learn something new like maybe how to

grow

my own

food

and build this ridiculously large garden having no idea what i'm doing so that's exactly what i did and i started with all these different seeds but look at this i can't believe how many plants i have with edible vegetables and fruits that i get to enjoy all year round this is the best decision i have ever made here's how you can make a raised garden bed and it's super easy based on how big you want the garden bed to be clear away any grass or weeds now grab these planter blocks which basically have two inch slots so you can slide in pieces of wood this bed is two foot by six foot and you can also double it up now fill it up with

your

compost and topsoil i forgot to grab vermaculite which is basically a mineral that helps to aerate the soil for better root development i just pick some up from home depot spread it across

your

bed and give it a good mix now you can use any sort of mulch which is good for water retention i'm just using wood chips so spread the mulch evenly across

your

bed finally to help organize

your

plants you can use the square foot

gardening

method with the help of some string and nails that's pretty much it the right and wrong way to water

your

garden yes there is such a thing as...

watering the wrong way you want to water around the plant and not overhead and drip irrigation is awesome because it sends the water exactly where it's needed the most if you love wine and

gardening

this hack is for you instead of buying these fancy looking watering globes that will cost you up to 20 dollars at

your

favorite local stores you can use

your

old wine bottles to keep

your

plants hydrated just simply fill them up with water and stick them right into the soil for container pots you can use smaller bottles like this soy sauce bottle that i use with my cucumber you guys check out the dollar tree garden section but the best finds are these let me show you what they can do so you start with one and then you stack on number two press it down this is what three looks like and here's five these are perfect for flowers or strawberries all right time to go home and put some strawberries in today mom's gonna show you how you can get

your

own strawberry seeds to plant let's get started so you cut like this one would later put it dry and then like this do it later they dry and you just put

your

finger like this it's easy the cheese come out like that see see when they drag

your

food

you see in here we received so we throw them back by saying they controlled by c now you have strawberry c right here here's another five home

gardening

most brassicas like kale taste the best on a cool morning so adjust

your

harvest based on the weather number three plant

your

tomatoes deep all these hairs are called trichomes and if put underground will turn into roots number four

grow

lettuce it can be an absolute confidence booster number five don't plant everything at one time plant and weekly intervals so you could harvest in weekly intervals most of us eat this part of the carrot which is an enlarged top root or with a broccoli plant we eat this part here which is an underdeveloped flare head but did you know you can also eat this green foliage on the carrots plus the leaves from the broccoli and its stem too why you should always include marigolds in

your

vegetable garden marigolds attract pollinators like bees and butterflies great for when you want to pollinate

your

plants they're also known for attracting pests away from

your

vegetables so those caterpillars and aphids will be chomping on these instead of these they also attract predatory insects like ladybugs which help control bad bug populations they produce chemicals that are harmful to nematodes which are a pest to crops they are also edible and delicious in salads and finally they're just really pretty if you want to

grow

the biggest healthiest tomatoes possible here are some tips when you plant

your

tomatoes clip off all of the leaves at the bottom of the plant and plant it that much deeper roots will come out from where you took off the leaves...

and you will have a plant that is better off right away as

your

plant starts to

grow

there are these little things that come out of the elbows of

your

plant you want to pull those off those are called suckers more plant

grow

th will come out of those that doesn't produce tomatoes and that will take energy away from the regular plant stem if

your

plant does get a little wild and starts putting off tons of flowers clip some of the extra flowers off so that the plant can focus more energy on making the tomatoes that it's already set that will result in you getting more tomatoes even though it's a little counterintuitive finally stop watering

your

tomatoes so much wait till their leaves start to curl before you water them watering them less simulates the end of summer when they need to put on fruit to produce this basil plant and this basil plant were both planted at the exact same time so why is this one so much larger this one is also starting to flower which takes the flavor and the energy away from the leaves so let's go back to this large full basil plant not only was it planted at the same time in the same location and the same soil but it hasn't been fed or watered any differently but if you come in close you can see right here where i top pruned this one branch to encourage it to split into two branches and that's something that can and should be done at every single leaf node look right here where there's two more branches if i pinch it off...
those will also emerge into two more branches i'll pinch it here to make more branches i'll pinch it here to make more branches and i'll keep pinching this plant all over the place we'll have a nice big bushy basil plant in my next video i'll show you how i turned these cuttings into new plants super excited to plant carrots in a kiddie pool today first poke some holes right in the eye there and the little fishy so it can drain and find a nice spot for it take a little love muffin break if you have muffin i needed to see if it would drain and it does so that's good and then just plop the dirt in there there's nothing particularly exciting about that you just get it in there however you can um and it's also helpful if you have a five-year-old to help smooth it out she was quite helpful in doing that so i've got carrots that are especially for containers i was told to mix the seeds with sand because then it would distribute the seeds better because they're so small so i totally did that because what do i know right so i just kind of rubbed the sand and seeds in after you sprinkled them over the top and then i watered it and these are some of the seeds that you can start in march start by filling a tray with soil mark where

your

seeds are going and separate with little tags use

your

hands to mark a line about a half inch deep pour some seeds into

your

hand and put them about an inch apart cover

your

soil and water them in and cover

your

...
babies with

your

dome traditional way when you get this from a nursery is to just plunk it in the ground in a hole that's deep to do it differently like a j to do that you take off the bottom half of the leaves you just clip them off as i'm doing by hand then use the stem as a way to establish roots that are both deep and fruit that's close to the surface making a little bit of a tunnel and then laying the plant in the tunnel filling in around it let's see what's volunteering in my garden volunteers are the plants that i didn't plant that just decided to be here butter lettuce that i planted last year and never sprouted but here it is now this beautiful spinach i think a red russian kale plant some chives this giant kale plant with bonus feline strawberries and a baby strawberry a tiny baby lettuce and this random japanese maple i'd like to take a moment to thank you all for volunteering to be here let's go for a little morning harvest in the garden these are romano bush beans they're a low

grow

ing bean and they actually get pretty large but they're still actually tender and tasty at this size now let's get some zucchini some jalapenos okay the harvest basket is looking great but i think it could use a little bit more color so let's go get some tomatoes these are pink bumble bee tomatoes and these are early girl tomatoes all right that's better okay one last thing this is a striped armenian cucumber and i don't even...
think it's gonna fit in the basket yeah this thing definitely will not fit in the basket one of my friends asked me if it's a good idea to

grow

mint mint is a very easy plant to

grow

however you'll quickly find that it is a big problem in

your

garden why is that you might ask because it spreads a lot like crazy and it will not stay in one place for very long the best way to

grow

mint is actually in a flower pot mint is very invasive because it

grow

s underground through the roots and wherever the roots will spread to another mint plant will pop up this way if you

grow

it in a flower pot it's retained and it'll stay in one spot and it won't get any larger or spread and take over
