Godzilla NES: The Most Disturbing Creepypasta of All TimeJan 02, 2022
Today I am going to tell you a story, but not just any story, an internet horror story that at its core is one of the
creepypastavideo games ever made, there will be a lot to take in during this video as the narrative is quite long. First, I'll lay out a lengthy synopsis of
creepypastas as a whole, while also going through and dissecting the key moments, characters, and symbolism. Then I'll discuss the story in retrospect exploring its impact on modern creepypastas and then wrap it up by interpreting where. The future of this story will be next, so sit back, relax, maybe grab a snack, and get ready for the infamous story behind the one and only.
The 1980s are one of the
mostinfluential decades in video game history. would have witnessed the rise and fall of all things gaming until 1983 various consoles and titles were being pushed out left and right many of these titles were extreme and similar to others it was at this point that The infamous video game crash of 1983, also known as the Atari crash in Japan, generated a tidal wave that saturated the global video game market. Fortunately, this accident only lasted a few years and provided the opportunity for the soon to be influential video game corporation Nintendo to step in.
In October 1985, the Nintendo Entertainment System launched in North America with iconic launch titles like Wrecking Crew. From Duck Hunting and Super Mario Bros. the system exceeded all expectations as family households rushed to buy this device thus reviving the once defunct video game market this in turn paved the way for other corporations to succeed , such as sega, sonic the hedgehog and sony with the debut of the playstation, but with the nes came a lot of interesting games, one of which was released. a few years after the release of the console
godzillamonster of monsters released in december 1988 is a game where you play as
godzillaand mothra fight against giant monsters on every planet in the solar system with the goal of reaching planet x where king ghidorah awaits a final battle gameplay is what you would expect for a late 1980s title that you start on earth which is represented by a hexagonal map where you can move godzilla or mothra in a chest-like pattern each of these hexagons contains a playable side scrolling level where enemies attack and shoot you the goal is to advance both godzilla and mothra to the next planet by finishing the base headquarters level on the opposite end of each map, in addition to this there are between two and eight monster boss battles on each planet that try to block you as you progress, these giant monsters, also known as kaiju, move in the m apa like you do and if you move next to one or have a move right next to you a battle will start during these battles you have about 40 seconds to defeat the kaiju and if you do it successfully they will disappear from the map and you can continue on t The full game consists of eight worlds, these are earth, mars, jupiter, saturn, uranus, pluto, neptune and planet x.
On these planets, you will find a total of eight monsters, seven of which are often found on multiple worlds. These seven are gezora magura viran baragon hedorah gigan and mechagodzilla the last king ghidorah is a super strong kaiju that can only be found during the end game on planet x but you are probably wondering how a simple nes game like this could have anything remotely scary attached, well there is something dark that came from this title just two decades after its release that spawned a revolution of video game horror stories like the nes godzilla creepypasta, regarded as one of the legendary video game creepypastas and most
disturbinglengths of all
time, originally submitted to the horror site bogleach by user cosbydaf in 2011 has become most notable for containing various amounts of screenshots that add to the realism of the creepypasta story being told from the perspective of of a man named zachary who recounts the night he received a monster of godzilla monsters from his a childhood friend billy the reason zachary got this game is because he was obsessed with it as a kid he says what it was like he gave it to him for his birthday back in the day but then traded it for another game something he knew about regretted it for many years after turning on the cartridge and being flooded with nostalgia.
Everything started as usual. until that first fight with gezora i.e. you see partially through the battle the game crashed and Zach had a hard
timetaking attacks like i said before battles only last a maximum of 40 seconds at a time before you have to reboot and try again but Zack explains that this fight lasted five minutes before the whole screen started to glitch and became unplayable as most nes players would pull the cartridge from the blue console on it and i restarted the game after that everything seemed to be back to normal zachary finished playing dirt with nothing out of the ordinary and went to the next level mars but this is where the problems started to arise again after defeating gezora for the second time the screen started to flash failing again this time with gezora's eye appearing all over the screen in a dark red color at this point in the narrative, zach proclaims his regret for ignoring these technical issues that prey gian something more sinister later in the story, but of course, as most creepypastas go, he continues anyway in the next boss battle, he encounters magura this time twice the size he normally is after a quick fight instead of sinking to the bottom of the screen after death as usual, maguro's sprite shattered and began to melt, which of course never actually happens. the actual game then quite strange zack found the next monster was titanosaurus a kaiju never seen before in the original game nothing str Heartbreak happened during this battle leading Zach to believe he must have an early copy of the game that would explain the glitches, never-before-seen effects, and new monsters. word jupiter but instead he was faced with a pathetic new planet if you thought things were bad before this is the time everything in the game broke down when first looking at the world map zach noticed a lot of gameplay irregularities which he remembered instead of green the The color of the map was blue.
Level icons changed from their usual shape to strange rock-like structures. The music was also more ominous which gave Zach an eerie feeling and in addition to these changes he noticed a new character on the board, biollante, who wasn't even created until 1989 a whole year after the creation of godzilla nes. Zack kept convincing himself that it was still an unreleased version of the game possible. He even created it to promote the upcoming 1989 Godzilla movie at the time, but oh boy was he so wrong! The levels were ominously empty, with no enemies or environment, set against the haunting red moon overhead, but it wasn't until the boss. battles where things took a wild turn even though their kaiju on the board looked the way monsters normally do during battle they were dead wrong in every way possible these mutated beasts like most things shown so far never were seen in the original game in fact none of them even currently exist within the entire Godzilla universe and I know I keep saying this over and over again but bear with me for a moment here though these moments from Zach's experience might described as creepy, unnatural, or disturbing, they aren't even the most unforgiving part. of this narrative, since it is at the end of the pathos where the most crucial moment of the game occurs at the moment that changes everything about this story, so what you just saw is the infamous us chase level is at this point in the story where zack's mood does a complete 180 and changes into panic and confusion is also the time we meet red, the demonic looking spider creature meant to instill a specific type of fear in the protagonist and The reader, however, Zachary's thoughts quickly fade as he realizes that this whole game is probably just the cartridge trick, something his friend Billy could have done, but even if he wasn't Billy Zack knew he couldn't. there should be nothing supernatural in a video game. even with such a terrifying character as Red I'll get back to later in the story, by the way, but to save time on the rest of the synopsis, I'm going to dig into three significant plot points from then on. being the red pursues the next test levels and zack's painful story in the next five worlds called trance, insanity, entropy, extus and zenith, which take the place of planet jupiter through planet x which meets a street mechanical ange who inadvertently adds the unexplained cherry on top of the story meets face which is just an unmistakable face that resides within the test levels in these levels marked with a question mark on the world map zach finds two boxes with yes and no marked inside them and the face perched in the middle on each planet from this point the face asks zack a series of 12 questions, some of them as simple as if the sun heats or if the water gets wet, but sometimes they are too personal, like do you like to hurt people? or has a family member been selling it while yes the premise is haunting the face is never really hostile and there are no right or wrong answers according to our narrator only 23 reactions the face will show when Zack selects yes or no , 11 of them discovered. but 12 of them not quite, however this was always a recurring event in each of the levels something that felt like a breather for zachary zak sometimes he even got new characters to play face up until the end, al which I'll get back to later, the next one is coming, unfortunately his chaste levels are also recurring, but with a twist each iteration at the end of the trance, the same planet where Zach first met his face.
The Red level starts with platforms. obstacles red smashes and eats while chasing zach differs slightly from the first encounter however follows the same mechanics but the real terror comes when zack turns red and clears the chase level in ecstatic player fashion. second after the last word slips from his tongue, red's head turns and looks at the screen with this deadly gaze after this unexpected moment, zack's blood runs cold and panic takes control of his body, but once again he quickly calms down and most of his fears disappear, it is this moment that adds to the general realism of the narrative, you see many creepypastas at that time relying on hyper-realistic graphics and the narrator forgets about the fact that such things just don't happen in real life the fact that zach finally dismisses the red glare as mere coincidence and clings to the idea that he's playing a pirated cartridge is a huge departure from what most creepypasta writers did in time and in my opinion it's more realistic and therefore much scarier even though we know something very bad is going to happen to Zach later on because of the nature of this story we still have a moment of empathy for him during this scene, as it is also how our minds would work if we were ever put on stage, however, everything is thrown out the window when Zack finally arrives in Entropy, the sixth world in this story, After navigating through a series of harrowing levels, Zack finds himself in an even calmer place. unnerving completely devoid of monsters with nothing but a big pale moon and an empty grassy plain zach feels something familiar about this place after some boating he comes across a body of water in t Right now the moon is It opens and a crouched humanoid figure falls into the water and seconds later a monster nicknamed the Moon Beast appears, but this is when the game really shows its metaphysical side and breaks that boundary between reality and fantasy. zak's tv and that now brings us to the third segment of the second half of this creepypasta zachary's painful story to save time and my own effort in trying to explain this to you i am going to read you an excerpt from the story that explains the segment in more detail , when i was in high school i had a girlfriend named melissa, she suffered from some sort of mental disorder that caused her to have episodes when she was in an episode she would stand or sit perfectly upright and still and her face would instantly lose any expression she had before she spoke very clearly without any hint of emotion when she finished she would start shaking and sometimes she would bury her face in her hands and stay still. in silence for several minutes i really can't put the feeling she gave me into words and i won't try you had to see this in person to understand but despitefrom this she was a very kind person and i cared a lot about her we like to hang out in a field at night and look at the stars but one night she didn't say anything to me at all just looked straight at the shaking moon i tried to talk to her, but suddenly she got up and ran into traffic. i tried to stop her but i was too late she got hit by a truck and died that night i looked her straight in the eye as the wheels passed over her neck that sight has always haunted me it is after this scene where the story reveals its secret symbolism that is has been hiding in plain sight throughout the narrative, we can first see said symbolism hidden within the names of the planets, specifically pathos, trance and dementia, these are qualities related to melissa's tragedy stemming from the illness that forced her into periods of suspended animation and his eventual death that Zachary has a hard time reflecting on.
We can also find this symbolism at the beginning of the story when Zack experiences the first of his few glitches. Remember that battle with Gezora, where the screen glitches into a red-eye sequence. that spawn all over the screen, so it wouldn't be too hesitant to point to this as a symbol for the red eye watching the narrator play and waiting for the moment to reveal itself to him, especially since we now know that something in this game is conscious and trying to communicate. with zachary but it's all these pieces of symbolism combined with melissa's tragic face of fate and red that come together at the end to form the final climax of this creepypasta keep in mind this ending has mixed reviews it's a lousy type scenario either you love it or you hate it, so I suggest you read it for yourself and make up your own mind, but the story ends like this, Zack notices a level with a cross symbol on it and finds out that it's actually a graveyard.
He enters the graveyard and finds a floating figure that he calls out as the red angel, then he appears and devours said angel and Zach runs away and loads the final zenith of the world here, he first enters the test level as usual only to find out that the face has been killed, she goes on and fights through a series of grotesque monsters until he gets to his last showdown with red during this battle whatever attacks red hit him with in-game that zack felt in real life, including immeasurable pain he felt from red's fiery blasts zach also had no control over his body he couldn't even turn off the game at this point he just uses his fingers on the controller to try for a win or die a painful death he had an incredibly difficult time to get hits on red as he was crushing all his characters with no other hope zack sends his last godzilla character here red tells zachary he was the one who m tied up melissa red was the virus in her brain responsible for her episodes and eventual death the now distraught and angry zack not only fights for his life but for the life of his dear friend melissa however before zach could even attempt to destroy this beast red opens his grotesque mouth as wide as possible and consumes godzilla completely ready to accept his death zach gives up but moments later the angel from earlier interrupts the battle, reveals himself to be melissa's spirit, confesses that red has been torturing his spirit and warns that red will do the same to zack if he loses this battle and just before he fades away he grants zachary a new character from here. zack returns to the battle with red and effortlessly defeats the entity with his new gift after defeating red zach discovers that he has been teleported to the graveyard and melissa thanks him for saving everyone and promises they will see each other again during the epilogue that takes place three weeks later, Zack still reeling from the experience during those weeks confronting his friend Billy about the game, who understandably has no idea what he's talking about.
Billy then proceeds to talk to the person he got the game from, but same thing. something happened and so on no one experienced what zack experienced it was a custom game just for him he thought a lot about destroying it even wanting to throw it he threw it in the lake but he couldn't half of it he wanted to keep it intact because of the experience and because of melissa during the last sentences of the story zack admits he put it up for sale on ebay not for the money or anything but because he doesn't want to be responsible for the cartridge and in that last sentence the game is live on ebay and zach is patiently waiting for someone to get it get off my hands thanks for putting up with me for so long synopsis and side analysis now that it's out of the way let's look back and see why this story is what it is according to revenge who studied 72 popular creepypastas and found there are a total of seven vital elements needed to create the perfect creepypasta story first the narrative needs to be written in first person perspective this will gives the story a more personal touch like a friend telling you a story second needs to explore unexplained phenomena something the reader won't know about allowing the element of suspense or surprise to take over also the story should delve into themes of death or tragedy, include some kind of monster or supernatural entity, show fear through photos or videos and finally end in a cliffhanger and it is all these elements that when put together form one of the most disturbing and best written creepypastas of all time. if you compare these points with other classics like ben drowned, squidward hit or even the russian dream experiment you will notice that they all share a similar pattern but godzilla is written differently, its unique structure is divided into several chapters, each of which ends in its own minicliffhanger in what one could only assume will keep the viewer interested. a computer screen on how delusional they can be, but zach dismisses most of the disturbing elements of the story as complete coincidence.
It's something any conventional person would do in real life until the game enters his mind and pulls out his memories darker of course, but I mean, I'm sure we'd all be freaking out at that point too, but as I said before, many who have read this creepypasta agree that the ending is a bit over the top from the rest of the story. story, especially when he ends up selling the damn cartridge on ebay of all places like we come on, man you said he didn't. to be selfish but you were giving someone else a game that could potentially kill them anyway it leaves the story open for more and that's actually the reason it ends like this you see there has been a sequel to this creepypasta in process for many years titled nes godzilla replay in this story a guy named carl buys zach's monster of godzilla monsters on ebay and discovers his own custom anomalous adventure the story is still in development but bits and bits of it exist as far as i can tell I'm worried but the reason this sequel isn't ready yet and I'd say this is also the reason the original creepypasta is being heralded as one of the best is because the author Cosby Deaf is actually a professional artist they are the ones who created each single monster anomaly and terrifying moment found in the original story screenshots are also the ones who build the world of the sequel from scratch, but for now we'll just have to wait for the long-awaited sequel to find out what finally happens. after the game starts again but as always thank you very much for watching and good night.
