Giving My Storage Bins a Makeover

Feb 27, 2020
Hello, it's me, what is this hand doing? I have a new pink background, what do you think? On the other hand, my nails don't look so hot, they look very stubby, but you don't care about that, it's okay, the plan for today is Paint a little, this is my shelf that I bought from Ikea, it's called Calek Calyx. Yes, I have two of these in my art room and you know they are so standard cubic shelves in the interior. I have these fabric containers that are very useful. for

storage

don't worry I'm a friendly doll unless you cross me um they are quite spacious inside as I'm demonstrating here but that's irrelevant so although they are full of personality I think I'm going to try to give them a little more because I don't really feel this, but you don't have to throw things away to paint them.

I'm going to use some matte fabric paint. I also needed a little more white because this little door couldn't do the job. There you are too low a loser and here are my paint containers, I have no idea what I was thinking when I was doing that. I'm going to fill each of them most of the way with white and then add each color to top it off. Oh my goodness, let's end that without further catastrophe. A snake. Okay, now I'm mixing and mixing. I'm mixing, mixing, mixing, there they are, that's my beautiful color combination. Now I'm going to prepare my box.

They fold. like an accordion and bam, they're like little canvases. I have a very complicated plan here for the designs, so yeah, let's do it, it's about time. I start sketching the design with a pencil. I open up some baby yellow paint. One thing I quickly learned is that these little boxes are very absorbent and they really soak up a lot of paint quickly just like that and the entire paint container died empty. You were thirsty, weren't you? So I prepared some more paint and here. we repaint that yellow for some reason I'm looking more at the paint container which is the interesting part of this content this is the real star here comes a friend so in case you don't realize this first design is full of style . so I'm doing this kind of look that's dripping with rainbow colors and I'm getting all kinds of mixes, which is going pretty well, everyone gets along until the problem child comes along.

I always have trouble mixing green and yellow. like a couple that just can't stop arguing, move, you move, so it always takes a little more manipulation to get those two to meld well. One thing I noticed is that once the paint dried, the overall color looked a little blotchy. a skin condition. I wasn't sure if I hadn't mixed the paint well enough or if I liked what was going on, so I went over everything again with a second coat off camera because I'm not trying to make you see all that. again, you're welcome, but it still had the same kind of stain, that's how it will be.

I guess it's okay, we're dealing with it. I'm adding an outline around the drops that they desperately needed and We're at it again, why can't they get along? But let's try to ignore that little area and move on, travel, travel, now, I'm adding some little highlights to make the drops look wet, I don't know why. I always feel the need to say wet like that, you don't want drops that look dry because then it looks like a mess that was never cleaned up, but wet drops, that's cool, that's action, that's movement, that's the finishing touch. I'm adding a little. hearts because I can and I want to ew is that my eyebrow oh honestly I don't know what's wrong with the drops what kind of substance is this and why is it dripping I guess I just think the drops look good okay and there it is Member number one is done but I'm just getting started so let's keep starting with pink this time a little is enough not a lot is a little painting a very large area takes a long time maybe it's time to start. a bigger brush I don't know just an idea no I'm just going to continue with this little by little and I'm out of paint what the hell fill in and continue that's a lot of pink yeah so this box will be dedicated to my love for the sparks so I know it's great to branch out and try different things and blah blah blah but today is not the day for that these boxes are going to be a big part of my art room decor so I really want them be things that really represent my style and what I really like to do on a regular basis, since this is the sprinkler box.
Okay great, I actually like how this looks as is, but I want all the boxes to go together and On the last one I made a dark outline, so I decided to make little dark outlines on each spark as well to give them a little more of dimension and really helped them stand out a lot more, which is good, creating very smooth, uniform lines is very difficult. on these because there's a lot of texture, if you're looking for a super sharp line look elsewhere, I'm adding some little polka dots to fill in the rest of the space and give a little more detail to how they look. more candy than sprinkles, but you know, honestly, that's fine too, there's nothing wrong with that, so there's member number two, don't worry, I'll show you what they all look like together, but it's not time yet For that, it's time for box number three. one starts with a big triangle, so I printed out this play button and I'm just going to cut it out, cut it out, cut it out, trace it out and I'm going to take some masking tape and mark everything. play button so there's no paint left in that area for now and oh, okay, I'm starting over here in the corner, what have you done?
Look at this, another mixed rainbow, it's diagonal, okay, this time it's different, I'll say the The combination was pretty good on this, even the problematic couple, I think when it comes to painting, the smoother the surface, the more It's hard to blend, I think that's right, but this has a lot of texture, so blending is a little bit easier, uh. yeah, it looked better when it was wet, now I'm going to take my circle template and once you know, I'm going to make some circles originally, this was just going to be a rainbow background with a big play button in the center, but once I saw it, I thought it was too basic and simple compared to the others.
I also wanted to add those darker colors and if the giant play button in the center didn't tip you off, this box is my little tribute. to youtube because you know that's what I'm doing here and it's something that's important to me, so here I go cleaning up these little circles. I think it's time you cleaned up the dotting tool too, don't you think, but yeah. circle circle circle circle circle circle every time I don't know what to say I just repeat whatever I'm looking at the circle of life now I'm finally going to remove the tape a disgusting mistake I'm going to go over it with white paint so I got a very nice strong white, I added some little white triangles, I'm making it up as I go, it really helped balance the whole design a bit, finally I just cleaned up the edges and it's done.
I'm much happier with this one than I thought I would be. I liked it more and more the more I added to it. I think it really went well and it's time for the last box. Here we go again. I'm starting with a light. purple for this one, can I get a refill here?, done, enjoy. I've never actually seen anyone customize these fabric organizers this way before, but it's something that's super doable, especially if you already have one of those cube shelves, I'll be sure. to link to these specific fabric

bins

in the description if you want to see them, though make sure they are the right size for your shelf, don't be an idiot and assume and then end up with the wrong size, so I'm going to start working on my design, here come the colors, thanks for that inspiring performance, okay, now I'm color blocking very haphazardly, trying to get an idea of where everyone will be, this background color is too strong, so I'm going to go over that with a purple still more clear.
I really want my rainbow to stand out. I have to paint under that handle. Also you know, really get in there and I'm going to go ahead and fill in the colors a little bit more. and this time I'm making stripes of color instead of mixing them together. I know I'm just wild and unpredictable. The handle on this particular one was very wrinkled and I probably sealed it that way forever by painting over it. Well, coat number three, come on, for some reason I'm only showing the top half of the rainbow here, but the bottom half was actually getting a big

makeover

off camera, ha ha, you see things have changed and to bring in the dark colors, I go. to add some little outlines just on the outer edges and then I'll add some stars to the empty areas.
I'll probably play shine because I can and let me be the first to admit that I actually stole this design. Listening to my lawyer about this is a lot like how I decorated the cover of my book Create This 2. Okay, wait, fix that little mistake and here's the last box, the last missing piece. Sorry, we moved on from this boring and basic thing. to this from this soft white to this yeah, I'm actually really excited to have them in my art room, I think they make the room look a lot brighter. I'm very happy with how different and unique each one is, but how they still work together enough and yes, I've already filled them with garbage, that was quick, plus there are four more, I really have no idea when or how they I'm going to decorate, thanks for watching and see you next Friday, bye.
