Galaxy Buds+ vs Original Buds - Every Single Difference!

Feb 27, 2020
I've been a big fan of Samsung's Galaxy Buds since they were released just over a year ago, I even went so far as to say that some iPhone owners should opt to buy them instead of Airpods and I personally used them quite a bit, until that is. They launched the Airpods pro. There were some glaring issues with the

original

s and the Plus, Samsung has done

every

thing it can to fix and improve them while adding some new features, and in this video I will cover

every

little

difference

and let you know whether you should buy the new ones or the discounted

original

s , or if you should update to the new ones.

The Buds+ were just announced and we have them on order with next day shipping, so if you want to see our head-to-head showdown along with a comparison with the AirPods Pro and Sony XM3, hit the subscribe button and enable notifications. Starting with the case, they look almost identical; In fact, you might not notice a

difference

, but if you look closely, instead of having the inside LED between the printed left and right, we now have some buttons. Everything else in the case is identical, including the built-in 270 mAH battery. The buttons themselves also have only one visible difference, and that is the addition of a second external microphone.

More Interesting Facts About,

galaxy buds vs original buds every single difference...

Personally I think this is a big problem. One of the biggest downsides to the Galaxy Buds was that the microphone quality was really poor and didn't stand a chance against the Airpods and many other competitors. The microphone quality should be much better now, but we'll see that as soon as we put them in. Each earbud is a little over 10% heavier than before, but they still weigh just 6.3 grams, so you shouldn't notice the difference. This is because the batteries in the headphones are almost 50% larger, 85 mah compared to 58. The battery life of the headphones has gone from an already good 6 hours to an impressive 11 hours, which is about 85% better, which means not only did Samsung make the battery bigger but also improve the efficiency?

This leads to a total charging time of 22 hours for playback, still below some competitors but much better than the original 13 hours. And that's not the only difference with the batteries, you can now get a full hour of playback with just 3 minutes of charging, which is class leading, whereas before it took about 10 minutes. This may not seem like a big deal, but when your

buds

are dead and you're sitting around waiting for them to run out so you can start your workout, you'll definitely appreciate it. Before I tell you what I'm most excited about, I want to mention a few new additions.

The first is direct access to Spotify through the use of sturdy panels on the side of the

buds

. This is a really cool addition that allows you to pop them in and start listening no matter if your phone is in your gym bag, in the room charging, or even just in your pocket and you just don't want to take it out. I hope Samsung adds this feature via a software update to the originals. One thing I didn't expect is multipoint compatibility, which means you can connect them to multiple devices at the same time. I can connect to my computer to listen to music and also to my phone to listen to notifications when they appear.
This will be extremely helpful for some people. I also want to mention that Samsung just released the app to customize the Galaxy Buds on iOS, so you won't be able to have the same features as you would on Android, which makes them even more attractive to iPhone users. The last and biggest difference for me personally is the new dual driver design. Most headphones, including the Airpods Pro, use a

single

speaker and it's very difficult to make it sound good when the bass, mid and high frequencies must come out of a

single

driver. I really liked the bass of the original

galaxy

buds and the mids were fine, but what I was really missing were the higher frequencies.
With this dual driver design we should be able to keep that bass but get cleaner mids and much more clarity in the high frequencies. There's a chance that the Buds Plus could outperform the Airpods Pro in terms of sound quality, so make sure you have notifications enabled to see our comparison. One feature that the buds plus didn't add that is very popular right now is active noise cancellation. This is probably due to three reasons. The first is battery life. Samsung was clearly focused on improving it and adding ANC would mean shorter battery life, which they didn't want.
The second is the audio quality. They would probably need to add more hardware to hear and process noise cancellation, and if they did, they might have had to stick to a single driver, which would mean lower quality audio or possibly make the headphones larger like some competitors. The third is the cost. The new Galaxy buds plus cost $20 more than the originals at $149, while the AirPods Pro and Sony retail for $250. I'm pretty sure the buds plus would be at least $199 if Samsung added active noise cancellation, and the $150 price point is a really good sweet spot. So should you upgrade your original Galaxy Buds to Buds Plus?
Personally, if it were my main headphones I'd use, I'd say absolutely. Having improved microphones and much better battery life is great, but better audio quality would really seal the deal for me and that's not counting the other improvements. That said, not everyone needs those upgrades and the sound quality is still pretty decent, and if that's the case for you, there's no reason to upgrade. If you're a new buyer, the choice is a little more difficult. You can get the originals for around $100 now on Amazon or even $70 if you don't mind the refurbished units, which are linked down in the description.
Are the Plus worth between $50 and $80 more? Based on the updates, I would say absolutely. You'll probably have them for several years, so I think if you can afford the new ones, it's worth paying a little more upfront cost and knowing you have all the upgrades plus better battery life, which you may not need now , but once the battery capacity starts. Coming down after many loads, those extra hours will really come in handy.
