Galaxy Buds Plus from an AirPods Pro user's perspective

Feb 27, 2020
How are you doing, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls? In this video we take a look and compare the Samsung Galaxy bots plus vs the air Potts Pro. We previously compared the original Galaxy Buds vs the original Air Pods and overall I wasn't impressed with the Galaxy. Buzz, although I appreciated its fit, which was much better than the original Air Pods, but this time things have changed, let's take a look, thanks for watching 905 Mac. Make sure to click the thumbs up, click the button subscription and then enable notifications with the invoice icon. You won't miss any upcoming videos, so what you'll find is that the unboxing and overall design of the Galaxy Bud's plus is very similar to its predecessor, the original Galaxy Pod, but there are some definite notable changes with the Buds Plus for the better and, Of course, we'll talk about that in this video, so let's go ahead and complete the unboxing here.

I'm just going to tear off the tape and open the box, there we go, so this is what's inside the

galaxy

buds

plus. package, so again, nothing too surprising here, if you've unboxed Galaxy Buds in the past you'll know more or less what to expect, so like typical Samsung unboxings, it has a little box on top of the box with documentation showing you how to use your Galaxy Buds basically a getting started guide giving you an overview of the basics of using the Galaxy Buds, apart from using the touchpad for example, okay so let's go ahead and Let's first take out the accessory box inside this box. find a usb cable this is a usb type c cable because the charging case uses two usb type c of course bonus points for that compared to the

airpods

which use lightning and then it has a pair of ear tips and a pair of wingtips that's one of the big differentiators between the air pots and the

galaxy

buds

, the wingtips that help keep them secure in your ears, now that's not as important as the previous comparison because the air Pro pods of course have ear tips which helped a lot in terms of keeping the

airpods

in your ear so the galaxy buds of course also have removable ear tips we'll talk about that so let's get the wireless charging case, it's the same basic form factor you get with the pill form.

So let's go ahead and remove the little piece of protective paper like this and here we go. What I like about the Galaxy Buds is that they come in three different color options, this one here is cosmic black but it also comes in white. and cloud blue so you see the USB C port on the back, on the front, you have a status indicator for the battery. You'll also find a status indicator inside the case for the individual earbuds, so here's what it looks like inside and Look at that pill form factor and it opens and closes like this, so let's take out the buttons, so there's one and let's take out the other one, well, inside the case you see the charging contacts there and they're like the wireless ones on the original Galaxy Bud. charging case, they are exposed so you can easily touch those contacts if you want, whereas with the airpods the contacts are buried deep inside the charging case, so it's not a big deal, but it's something to keep in mind, so here's the single button you can see the touchpad which is very glossy and a definite fingerprint magnet, just like the wireless charging case in that cosmic black, a definite fingerprint and smudge magnet, but you know that that one It's the price you pay for that kind of shiny black material, so just at the bottom you see the two charging contacts there and then you also have the touch sensitive sensor that detects when the devices are in your ears, although in some of my testing I didn't find it to be as accurate as the Air Pods implementation and along with the microphone on the inside you will now find two microphones on the outside of the drone for a total of three microphones and I can attest that the call quality has Much improved on the Galaxy buds plus compared to its predecessor and one of the latest things.

What to talk about is the removable wingtip and the removable eartip, I have a problem saying removable, it's a little awkward so let's go ahead and remove that eartip too so you can basically see a nekkid cocoon here so you can replace it with one of the alternative earpads and wingtips if you wish to do so, another thing to consider about the overall build quality is that the galaxy buds Plus feature IPX water resistance, while the earpods pro feature with ipx4 water and sweat resistance so they are more robust for workouts so let's talk about handling now because things are a little different this time of course the earpods pro grew in size compared to the originals but Even so, it is very easy to open the case with one hand, just like the original.
galaxy buds plus from an airpods pro user s perspective
The ear pods are noticeably wider but also shorter, so the form factor is not much larger than the air pods, but it is a bit larger and the Galaxy Buds plus are very similar in size to the air capsules, although pill-shaped design. makes it a little more awkward to open with one hand, it's possible but not that easy and it's also very slippery, that's how they call it space black, not space black, but cosmic black, with a super slippery finish, so it's Something to keep in mind too. So you can see the size comparison between the two, the Air Pods are not as wide as the Galaxy Buds, but they are a little bit taller and it means that overall they are very similar in size, as you can see there and what It's the Air Potts Pro.
Of course the charging contacts are deep inside the case and of course you had that magnetic connection that helps them line up when you place each individual button inside and the galaxy buttons also have magnets to help line them up and I find that the magnets on the galaxy buds plus are much stronger than their predecessor. I couldn't do this with the predecessor if you watched our video above, the buds would just fall out, but now they stay securely inside the galaxy buds Plus case so that's good so this is one area. Charging and battery life have really changed with the Galaxy Buds, the Air Pods Pro of course giving you a combined total battery life of 24 hours with about 4.5 hours of battery life for each individual , but while the Galaxy Buds Plus do it a little differently, we'll talk about that in just a second, you can see we have a Type-C cable for easy charging and, like its predecessor, it also works with wireless-enabled chargers.
Qi in the comparison above, this was a big advantage of the Galaxy Buds over the Air Pots. but as you know, the Air Potts pearl on Jian's second Air Pods now has wireless charging, but there is one pretty compelling feature that Apple still lacks and that is the ability to charge your device directly from your phone, so rumored that was included. with the iPhone 11, but as we know this never came to fruition, but with Galaxy phones like the Z flip for example, you can charge wirelessly directly from the device as that super nice feature, but here's the really cool thing about overall battery life: The Air Pods, of course, get 24 hours of combined battery life with about 4.5 to 5 hours on each individual, but of course, that's with active noise cancellation enabled, but the Galaxy Buds get that 22 hours of battery life combined, but each individual bud gives you 11 hours of battery life. so you can listen to these things pretty much all day without even having to put them back in the case, which is great now.
One of the strong features of the air pods has always been how easy it was to initially connect them to your iPhone or iPad and because your connection syncs all your iOS devices through iCloud, your Mac, your iPad will recognize your hearing aids and allow you to connect and switch without issues between multiple devices, that's super nice and also the fact that you get this little popup when you open the earbuds it tells you not only the battery life of the case but also the individual earbuds and you also get this little widget that you can enable and now it will do the same with the Galaxy headphones.
Also, it's very easy to connect to a Galaxy smartphone so you can just open the buttons right next to your Galaxy Z flip, for example, and then you just tap the connect button like that, what happens is all these little things appear pop-ups asking you if you want to allow certain permissions and things like that. annoying, but notice you also get what wait a minute, another popup asking for permission no, I don't want that, come on, okay, I'll just explain a little bit how okay, this is the frustrating part of this whole thing, but notice . Let me try to show it to you again.
Note that you get battery life not only for the individual earbuds but also for the case, so it's good that you get a full overview of your charging situation; however, there is no widget like the one you have on iOS. that's a downside, but on the plus side, Samsung has a dedicated app for wearable devices, they call it the Galaxy Wearable app, so when you open it, you can go in, customize and configure your Galaxy Buds Plus to your liking, so just I'm going to set it up here and get more permissions, so as you can see, it's not as polished or as intuitive as it is on the man, this is crazy, it's not as intuitive as it is on the iPhone.
I mean, that goes without saying, you see it yourself, right? here okay, so that's it, so let's go ahead and there we go, now we have all these options and it's actually very nice this interface that allows you to change your equalizer in various other settings. You see the battery life at the top, we'll talk. We'll talk about more in a second, but before that I want to talk about the fit because this was the key area where I thought the Galaxy Buds, the original Galaxy Buds, were better than the original Air Pods, so if you've used the Original Galaxy Buds, you know. exactly what to expect here you have the wing tip that presses against the inside of the ear to keep it nice and secure and of course you have the ear tip that provides that seal, that acoustic seal not only to have a better fit but also to toast You might as well respond to the bass and stuff like that and notice that it doesn't fall out of your ear when you shake your head like crazy or move your ear like a complete weirdo, but I think this is an area where Apple has caught up. the air pods Pro are actually more comfortable with those replaceable ear tips, they now stay in your ears much better than their predecessors, okay, so let's talk about the controls so that the Galaxy Wearable app has battery life on top and below it have ambient sounds, so this is where you can channel the sound of your environment.
Actually, the Air Potts Pro wasn't the first to do the same thing as the original Galaxy Buds actually did before the Air Pods, so this is a feature that Samsung has been doing for a while now and this helps you out. to listen to airport notifications and things like that and I think it works pretty well and there are also equalizer presets to change the sound of the headphones. There are no fine-grained granular controls, but there are basic presets. You will also notice the notification so you can read the notifications while using your phone if you want which is a nice feature and then there is the touchpad so this touchpad has several built in controls that cannot be customized such as a single tab will play pause double tap will play next track triple tab, previous track etc.
You can also lock the touchpad because I've found it to be quite sensitive and I tend to press it when I grab the buttons. out of my ears, I probably just need to be more aware of what I'm doing, but that's a problem I encounter from time to time. There is also the possibility of starting Spotify. You can customize the long press gesture so that it is pressed for a long time. start Spotify like this and it starts playing cool music, and then there are advanced functionalities that you can use ambient sound during phone calls if you want to do that and also find my headphones that will play a sound that gets progressively louder. on the headphones to help you locate them if you misplaced them on the couch cushion for example, and there are a few other areas within the wearable app, you have the overview section which gives you a

user

manual and also allows you to reset your headphones.
It is also the place where software updates are facilitated, so if there is a new software version for the Galaxy Buds, this is where it can be done and lastly, as for the controls within the wearable app, also There are laboratories where you canenter and enable experimental tests. It's great to have that available too, but as for control, this is one of the things I still have a problem with, so I'm listening to my headphones. I pull one of the earbuds out of my ear and the music continues. for gaming, I don't understand that functionality, I understand why it would be that way, but coming from an airpods

user

of course some people will argue that it doesn't matter, but I like the fact that the airpods will stop.
When you take one of the earbuds out of your ears and if you take both out there is a little bit of a delay but they eventually stop but don't resume automatically, like the airpods in terms of sound quality the galaxy buds plus are great. It is an improvement over its predecessors, especially when it comes to phone calls, they are not as static or as muffled as with the original Galaxy Buds, which was one of their biggest problems in sound quality for music, it is also greatly improved thanks to a new dual driver design. so you have a separate woofer and tweeter in a single earphone.
I don't think it's a question that the galaxy buds plus sound better than the original headphones, but compared to the air pots Pro, for me they still don't compete, obviously. The air pods Pro cost a lot more, about a hundred dollars more, but with that you get built-in active noise cancellation that you can control directly from iOS or via the touch-sensitive stems, just the air pods Pro, so if you're in an environment loud, right-handed on the plane, the air pods Pro by far destroy the galaxy buds, plus I want to say it's not even fair to compare the two because of the active noise cancellation on the air pods Pro, but even without that, I think the Air Pro pods have a richer, fuller sound than the Galaxy Buzz.
Now, the Galaxy Wearable app gives you that equalizer with some preset settings that you can adjust to find the sound that works best for you, but with all that being said, I still think about comparing these two side by side and I use my favorite song, Hello California, testing on both Apple Music on an iPhone and Android and Spotify on both iPhone and Android, and the Air Potts Pro not only had more acoustic detail, but sounded much richer in the midrange compared to the Galaxy Buds. Make no mistake. I don't think these earbuds are great examples of great sound quality, but I do think the Air Pods Pro after listening to both for hours.
They sound better than the Galaxy Buds, but the Galaxy Buds are also $100 cheaper and sound much better than their predecessors. They also last a ridiculous amount of time without having to put them back in the case to recharge, which is great if that's what you want. We're looking for the Galaxy Buds Plus to be better competitors to the original earbuds than their predecessors. They have better sound quality, better call quality, better battery life in a somewhat improved implementation and software. With Galaxy smartphones, the headphones can also be connected to two devices at the same time. At the same time, although those devices are limited to simulating some devices with Samsung accounts used as a sync agent, whereas with air pods or ear pods pro you have iCloud involved, so it will sync across all your Apple devices and the air pods. pods will simply benefit.
Based on Apple's software experience, it's simply a much more polished experience overall, from initial pairing to switching between devices, enabling or disabling active noise cancellation and transparency, the Air Pods Pro are undoubtedly better and I I would say even the second generation Air Pods. The pods are better than the Galaxy Buds and also, what do you think? I'm sure no one has an opinion on this. Let me know what you think in the comments below. This is Jeff with the Mac 905.
