Full Self Driving Computer Upgrade Overview | What's new | Tesla HW3 Computer

Feb 27, 2020
thanks to our new improved autopilot sponsor, Clarence C, welcome to the front. Hello,

what

's happening everyone? I just picked up my model 3 after receiving the new 3 hardware update and I have a problem setting up autopilot, now you can do it. I don't do this while

driving

, but even when parked I can't change this to no, so I need confirmation for my lane changes. I hope that goes away. I've tried resetting the scroll wheels and stuff and it won't do it. I don't know it's a little weird, but I think I can look into some of the differences I'm noticing between the hardware 2.5 and the hardware 3.

The only complaint I've heard from people is that the rearview camera looks worse, oh Oh my god,

what

the hell? ruined, just kidding, it's covered in dirt, I should have cleaned it, but, because of that, I'm a little used to this view, to be honest, it looks more or less the same to me, they said the frame rate was bad, but no No No I know, that looks good. I'll clean it up and we'll look at it in a moment. I want to park one more time and see if I can turn off my confirmations again, but as for detecting traffic lights and stop signs. and things have been really exciting, it's working very very well, so far it detects almost all fire hydrants as a cone approaching the stop sign.

Here you will see the RTA that is detecting that the trash can already detects the stop sign and then these. flashing lights. I think it takes me a second, but now it flashes on the screen, but you can see it detected it, yeah, it's like flashing in and out. Another thing I've noticed that's gotten a lot better is the cars in the adjacent lane here in Hardware 2.5 would be detected, I don't know, most of the time, maybe 70% of the time, and they would flash in and out and there would be a lot of cars. that they would just pass by and never detect it, but now with the

self

driving

computer

it is detecting those cars in the opposite lane perfectly and very smoothly, so I haven't heard anyone talk about it.

I don't know if everyone says oh, no. We already knew that, but that was a surprise to me. I didn't think that would change, so I'm just going to pull over to the side and park the car here real quick and show you if we go into autopilot, customize, yeah. I can't turn them off so it's a bit annoying. I should have checked with them before I left, but I thought that would take care of it

self

, so we'll see. I said I tried resetting the scroll wheel and that didn't seem to work. fix something okay so first experience with autopilot on the road so that's confirming yeah I have to confirm that's very annoying but okay we can do it okay we'll go over everything good enough for me.

I'm interested. If you're going to pull out of the passing lane after we pass this truck, although that's been my number one complaint, I will say that all my settings were still here, all my driver profiles are still there, so nothing changed there, everyone my previous saves were there my phone was still connected. I heard some people lost everything, all my navigation, my homework, everything was still there so I didn't have to deal with anything being erased there, it was moved out of the passing lane, all fixed, oh my goodness. I was instantly very excited and that was before that bug was introduced so hardware two point five still has that bug and hardware three doesn't so I'm excited for that update.
I hope they solve it, although there are a lot of people. on the 2.5 hardware that has enhanced autopilot, you know they don't have

self driving, they won't get this hardware update and they'll be stuck with that error and then just to show you one more time, confirm the lane change. passing lane I've seen it several times and in the Thanksgiving update it was Thanksgiving Day. I walked out and realized within minutes that that wasn't happening and now it's happened, so since Thanksgiving it's happened twice, which is even stranger. this might happen, it just never happens and now on this trip, I don't know, I've been on the road, let's say 15 miles or something, I don't really know, I've seen that message like five or six times. you know, whereas in the last three months I've seen it twice, so it was definitely broken.
I know there was a lot of discussion, but I think this puts it to rest, the 2.5 hardware will not exit the passing lane and the 3 hardware. Okay, so I'm noticing another improvement, let's see if we see it with this semi, the movement, yes, I feel like moving is much more confident and assertive and then we pass the semi and, boom, back up. I mean you can even see the wheel. You know it's hard to be sure about any of these things because maybe it's like right now the conditions were too good and the roads were too nice for this to happen, but I'm definitely sure that the movement.
The over function on the new hardware is better, although with the 2.5 hardware most of the time it would work very well, but there were also many times where it would do nothing or I would like to change it, but then I kind of don't and I do these weird things and I couldn't even tell I was doing it now with this update. I'm finding it's so obvious it's happening and obvious it's going backwards, another thing I'm not seeing in Now it's all ping-pong in the lanes, to be fair I didn't really notice this before, there were a few moments where that happened when turning or whatever, but it wasn't even always, it definitely wasn't repeatable or reliable. it's like very rarely does my car do this and I haven't realized that yet okay so we're getting off the highway here and we can start to see some of the new I want to go this way visualizations that the car has than enable them in the settings on autopilot if you look here for autonomous driving visualizations and you can see the traffic lights right there, all three are shown, we also have the arrow that is on the ground, I mean, things are really cool, I've been looking this and I love it so the car goes over the arrow and the arrow is still there so the car remembers the Tesla remembers that this arrow is here and keeps the graph there even though the cars are nice. from getting in your way and I've noticed that sometimes you see stop signs, like before, like the stop sign on the right, there will be a car in my way, so I can't see that stop sign, but it's lit. the screen and now you can see that this is green.
I think we can, oh yeah, let's zoom in here, so yeah, this is green and those two are red, so it shows another completely green and that change was pretty instantaneous. I was more looking at the screen. but I saw on the screen it changed there's the other arrow and then I looked up and I saw it was actually green in front of me so it's actually helping me drive at least as I look at the screen you could see it. there for a second, yeah, arrows appear on the other side pointing in the other direction, that's really cool and you see those green lights there, oh and it looks yellow, very cool, that's just cool, so he seems to be seeing those things quickly and he sees all these here, oh, he's trying to surprise, okay, so I try to decide to show them as cones or at least, I know, sticks, Bullards, I think some people call them, I don't even know what call them, but if you come back here, look at that, you can see you still see the ones behind us, this is our car right here and those are still showing back there and I don't know if that's in memory or you still see the that have the side chamber. that's the side repeater pointing in that direction, but very very cool so I just hooked it up to the supercharger and now you can see this is all available again so I guess I had to drive a little bit.
He had no messages, there was no indication of that. It had come back or it was calibrating or whatever was happening, it just worked that way so I wasn't expecting this but I'm seeing the displays of the cars around me are much better, much smoother now before I tell you. say it. What I'm seeing is not saying that Hardware 2.5 never did any of this. What I'm saying is that the 3 hardware is doing much better so you can see. I mean, look, he sees this car back here and he's coming back over there to me On the left, that car is way back, let me stop, I mean, you can't even see the second car that my car is seeing back there and he's following way back. and Hardware 2.5 would do that sometimes, but not as reliably.
They constantly stayed there, you can see the jacent lane speed in action here, it's tracking everyone to my left so I don't go too fast and I even see that I passed a car that was on the shoulder here it appeared on the screen and I I stayed there when I passed it. I've seen in Harvard 2.5 that a stopped car will appear as a blip on the screen for maybe a second, but most of the time it won't show it at all, this time it tracked it. When the car passed him, he was here and followed him all the way when I passed.
I was really impressed. I hope I can find another example to record it, but again I want to say that you can see, you can only see. this guy directly behind me and this guy right here, he's the second car and the car sometimes sees another car behind him, so looking further on some of the side streets, you can see up here that there are two signs for high, one on each side and Even from back here, the car detected both so impressively that it's been seeing them, you know, for a minute, and it's cool because you know you don't see stop signs on either side very far. often, so the car is obviously using the cameras.
To see, okay, there are stop signs here, it's not preset to map data and wow, look it's even picking up this third stop sign there as we get closer, yeah, it's flashing in and out, I'm not sure what to think about it, etc. On this road, hope

y, we'll have some cars coming in the opposite direction and you can see on the screen where they're getting cones from the reflective barriers and there it picks up that car from a pretty good distance and drives past me. I've been noticing lately on Hardware 2.5 that it wasn't really picking up, you know, this opposing traffic, look there it is again, it's very cool, I would catch them at the last second or sometimes they would blink or sometimes ignore them completely now it is seeing the cars very well, very accurately and very smoothly, there is one more approaching there, one thing that I do notice that is similar to Hardware 2.5 is that the car behind you, at least for me, is never detects so well and my camera is very clean.
I cleaned it before this follow-up. I see the other one crossing. I clean my camera before this. Drive by and you can see this truck behind us flashes and disappears behind me and I almost feel like it's so far away. I almost feel like it's detecting the car behind the truck, but yeah, that hasn't changed, it was the same as the 2.5 hardware for me, even the stop sign on the dirt road is there, it's trying to make a line, that It's so much fun, yeah, there's no line here. no line for you, keep moving, who I wonder if he sees those things over there, let's look, no it's not interesting and then of course we have the infamous trash cans, tracking the trash cans works quite a bit Well, the only thing I have.
I'm finding that sometimes he gets it wrong because he counts as if mailboxes are trash cans, yeah, he's doing it from left to right on this road and you know, it's no big deal. I'm not sure why they included that, it seems so random, you know? things like they could have included this pass with a beware sign but they don't have it but they have trash cans and I feel like you can see they are picking them up everywhere. I feel like it's almost, oh, that's a deer. I need to slow down for that I feel like it's almost like some kind of weird flex, they're like look what we can do, are you okay, okay, oh that sucks, that's one of the bad parts about living here, it's fucking deer everywhere, but um, oh yeah, there's another trash can in cones, so anyway that's hardware three.
I think I covered everything I wanted to cover. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments. I look forward to speaking with you about this. It's been really exciting, I really enjoy the hardware three and you'll see my Tesla in the next video.
