I knew Carroll had been here many times, and I really think I mean you had the body. language did you ever know him I never got to know him and Christian obviously never got to know 10 miles so it was a lot to watch old documentaries about that, you know? This is a project that has been around almost as long as I have. in hollywood since the 70s people wanted to do carroll shelby 10 miles to keep the whole story going and it never seems to get off the ground right what made this time different? You think I was approached with a much bigger script with a lot more characters and it was just too unwieldy to try to do it in a couple of hours, but this script they narrowed it down to these two guys and this underdog story told through the eyes of this friendship.

These kinds of guys were different. I think you did a great job and my biggest fear I hate car movies where people say wow! you know they jump and it's CGI and I know it's not the Dukes that have a threat but where are these crashes? camera and we had an amazing second unit crew and very good drivers. These guys were a special breed like they just got the biggest engine they could and put it in the lightest thing they could find and I once asked Carroll what he did. I don't like Enzo Ferrari and he told me he killed too many drivers yes his nickname was the Ferrari killer in those days one guy died a week in professional car racing it was a very dangerous and scary time I mean the reason they recruited Carroll.
Shelby is because he raced there in '59 and he was the only American they knew who had raced at this French race track. It's not even a race track. It's a public road in the middle of the French countryside. Just the thought of going 230 mph down the Mulsanne Straight. and not knowing if you're going to be able to stop there's stories from back then of guys flipping a car and leaking fuel on them and they're right in the middle of cow legs right there in a pasture and nobody's going to come save them the gt40 It had the fuel lines going through the doors and they're just waiting for a spark that will set them on fire and kill them and actually one of the drivers started sticking a wrench to the steering wheel to make it work.
Your way out of the situation if you were stuck in the car a dangerous sport obviously but not like what these guys were doing well and they also raced for practically nothing free tires gas and oil right? Oh wow, that's amazing and that's the pro thing. Sports were back in those days, it wasn't big business, it is now.
