Framing bathroom mirrors

May 30, 2021
I show you how to really improve the look of your

bathroom

mirror. This is one of my rentals, I'm just jealous of the cabinets. These were a maple color, a light maple color and I didn't like it so I darkened them on the spot and didn't finish. However, the mirror looks pretty simple and straightforward and what I'm going to do is frame it and I'll show you how to do that. Well, what I did was I went to Home Depot and I went to the lumber department and in the lumber department you can find these ornaments, they are all in-house ornaments, you can also cut them there, they have this table set up where you can cut them to the length you want and what I did was I measured my

mirrors

and I cut them a little bit more, a few centimeters more than I needed, so I'm going to put this on the bottom of the mirror, this one on the top I have two

mirrors

to make actually and then I'm putting the ones there up and down. the sides have a little more they have a totally different look they have these lines they also have this side that is a little rounded I think I'm going to stick with this side here but anyway what I'm going to do Now I cut them to size what I'm going to do What to do is spray paint them with a splash of espresso since they are white and I am going to dye them with gel.

I don't want to put them too. I close a gel stain with just one coat, so I'm going to spray paint them with espresso brown that I found and then put on a coat of gel stain and maybe a coat or two of polyurethane. Now on the back, the side is facing up. against a mirror you're going to have to do it. I'm going to spray paint on these and gel stain them, actually about an inch or so on each side, you don't have to do the whole thing if you don't want to, that's because when you push it up against a mirror, you'll be able to see the reflection of the back, so at least an inch or so the color of your paint on the front.

More Interesting Facts About,

framing bathroom mirrors...

I'm into everything in the back. I have this here. you can see it's a satin oxide-oleum primer and of course you get the color you want, this one is espresso brown. Okay, now I put the espresso brown paint here. The reason I did it is because when I dye it with gel. I just want to put one coat of gel stain on because it was white. I wanted to darken the color a little bit, so now what we're going to do is scrape it off a little bit too bright now, so we'll scrape it off with some finishing pads and you can pick them up.

I bought them in lol and in the paint department they have two sandpaper and everything, and you scrape it to remove the shine, that way the gel stain will stick a little better and from this If it hurts, you can push pretty hard. Now the back of this side is going to hit the mirror, so we gel tinted this here. You could also have painted it because once you place it against the mirror, it will reflect so you won't. I want it to look white and then after seeing scratches we go to Justin yeah okay now we just gel stained them we used the Java gel stain like we do for our cabinets this is a gallon here decided a gallon because it's cheaper, so we put them in gel because I have to match all the cabinets in the

bathroom

, but these are the decorations that we are putting around both mirrors in both bathrooms and I'll show you what it looks like. like in the next step we finish hanging them the color we need and now we have to scrape them a little bit with the finishing pads and you just take the shine off of them like this, just making micro scratches in the finish, so the polyurethane will adhere better but it will stick Better to finish, be careful with the corners because if you push the corners you will end up removing the gel stain and then the contour is just put your finger in the contour so just scratch a little or scrape it off, I should say, and you will see it in the reflection of the light, what it's doing is putting little micro scratches in there, that's all you need and that's it.

Now what we're doing is we're polyurethane and What we're doing is getting an old rag, an old sock, an old t-shirt, actually, the old t-shirt material works pretty well, so this is going to be our first layer. We want two coats of polyurethane. Now use a Minwax quick drying polyurethane. It's clear that it works pretty well, okay, a little trick, what I did was these little clips that hold a mirror down, that lens here, these think they're very bulky and when you put their real piece up here, you're in the way, so what I did was get some washers, give them galvanized steel or stainless steel and put them on a screw like this.
Okay, and then what I did was I mounted it here like this and I'm going to hold the mirror like this. don't stick out when you put the board on, it won't get in the way, that's a little trick you can do to hold the mirror up and it won't go anywhere, the frames and if you remember, I put this part here because now when I put it here, it won't show, so now what we're going to do you already need some of these liquid nails okay and this one here is for foam wood and trim adhesive and it works just fine like using other rentals that I did.
So you're just going to want to place one bead, the bottom goes against the mirror and don't get it too close to the edge, if it gets lost and it's not a little bit good, that's fine, make it nice and center looking. where you want it and it should stick right away, I mean you can peel it off if you want, but it should stick, okay, now we're going to put the side in for a month, now we're going to do the other side. I still have time to make adjustments on the side. These will move anything that is still wet.
Just hold it there for a moment and that's basically it, then frame it and it will totally transform your bathroom. It will give you a very pretty look. rich and every once in a while, like after 15 to 20 minutes, just come back here and check it, make sure everything looks good and the new mirror frame is there. I just want to show you the other bathroom that I just finished and this one turned out really well, so it's pretty simple. I mean, you don't have the gel stain, you just want it to match the color of your cabinets.
I only see on the cabinets, so I have to match them exactly. I mean. I can do it because I had the gel stain, but if you get something like paint, it works well that way, you don't have to finish sanding it or anything like that between coats like I had to do because I use polyurethane and gelatin and that's all very Simple, just go to Home Depot, you can choose the ornament you like. I like this one for the tie, it's a saying, the top and bottom are identical. This one only has a small shelf and I'm sticking with that.
Same thing here, the little ledge at the top and then I bought these, they have these ridges or lines that make them look like pillars or something, but just go to Home Depot and cut it off a little bit longer than you need to. They have a saw. right there and if you can't cut the air you don't trust yourself ask someone they will do it for you just measure your mirror the width of these frames here and you will get these the length of these here and that's all What do you need to do, I hope you like it.
