First Ride/Burnouts! 670cc Lawn Mower Pt. 4

Jun 06, 2021
Welcome to part four of our

lawn

mower

renaissance, we're putting our

670cc

50 horsepower V-twin into our racing

lawn

mower

. I really like the transaxle on this mower because it was one of our only projects with changeable gears, but because we're transferring this to a horizontal shaft motor, we got rid of the transaxle and put a regular go-kart style rear axle on it, So the front of this mower got the power sport treatment, so now it's time for the rear. are using the go power sports live axle kit, it comes with bearings, axle and axle brackets and everything you will need to convert a wheel stripping project to a live axle or for any custom project like this, it will be great solution, You can find a link to the kit in the description of this video and don't forget our code cc10 to get 10 off this kit and most other parts at gopowersports.com.

The

first

thing we will do is lift the lawnmower. We're going to take the wheels off and then we're going to take the transaxle off and it's really sad because we've been at this for a long time, yeah, and I'm not going to lie, I'm going to miss it, but we're going to build something just as cool, if not cooler, starting by taking out the clip, yeah that's the end, I like this little thing, man the transaxle definitely wouldn't hold up to 50 horsepower, I mean we wrecked one with with the worn out 17 and a half motor, there are safety glasses with clip, right, oh yeah, it's interesting, I mean, you push the brake and it pushes this and it pulls that which pulls this band, yeah, can we hit the brake?

More Interesting Facts About,

first ride burnouts 670cc lawn mower pt 4...

Yes, of course, let's look. at work once again yes success we have had questions in the past about how we lowered this and why we added the jack shaft. This is what we did. We had these original angle pieces that the transaxle bolt was way down. Well we cut out a large section here and we just moved these angle pieces up allowing the drive to go in deeper and when we did that the belt no longer lined up so we had to add this center jack shaft which allowed us to run the belt from the top of the transmission down to reach the engine.

Wow, so the floor jack has been moved so we can remove the axle from the jack, so we'll take it out and then we'll tack weld our axle brackets. there she blows how much weight do you think we? Oh, this probably weighs seven pounds or so, crunch it, yeah, it's probably 10 pounds, I don't know, I like the way it went up, yeah, it weighs 12 pounds, 18 pounds, so I ground it up. remove the old welds and use the hamburger wheel to get a nice clean metal to weld, but

first

we'll assemble the axle and put it under the chassis here so we can adjust the height because we're putting in a larger rear end. tires there, look at those bad boys, we just stole those tires from the tanker we stole from the Murray and they're aggressive, so this thing is going to shoot some rooster tails into the dirt, let's recycle this old sprocket that's gone detached from the murray and it's just the biggest sprocket we had because with those really tall tires we want a little bit of a short gear ratio because we don't want to go 80 miles an hour we want to do wheelies we want one of these and then we have this and that, all right , that's one so now we're going to add the go power sport disc brake kit we've got a disc brake here it's probably one of the bigger ones and we've got a caliper and a bracket that we're going to weld the bracket to the frame of the lawnmower, so my idea is to put the wheels on the axle, yeah, put it under, let it slowly drop and when it reaches the perfect

ride

height, we'll weld the shit up.

Sounds good to me, so we're at a crossroads right now. A longer wheelbase will make it more stable at high speeds, while a shorter wheelbase will make it easier for us to do wheelies. I'd say a wheelie like wheelie is the main goal, but at the same time we also don't want to die when we're trying to go 40 miles per hour or more with this thing, and it's in a really good place right now. We don't have to cut or modify anything, but the wheelbase is about an inch longer than before, so we just need to make some small final adjustments and then we can spot weld, make sure everything is right, and then just remove it completely . whatever, we're going to take this axle completely apart again before we finish welding the brackets because we don't want to cook the bearings, it's relatively thin and it's like there's a lot of area so there's a lot of flex potential there so I'm going to measure the mower frame supports because we want to make sure the axle does not shift in the frame.
I think everything will be fine because if I'm not mistaken, we paid attention last time, yeah. when we cut it and stuff, it should be good if it's more than 16, we need to do something about that, yeah, a little more space between the ends of the tape, yeah, oh, so that's like a quarter of an inch, that's pretty. Bad, you want me to cut it off, yeah, yeah, I totally understand what you mean about having a little flexible trailer hitch or whatever, yeah, I think if we come back with a trailer hitch, uh, we can use it like a real trailer hitch. thing and I'll also have more weight in the back, yeah, and we can adjust the roll bar, yeah, on the trailer hitch, yeah, okay, nope, you're going to cut that side off, yeah, great, now we can hang the axis.
It looks good so far, oh man, it looks amazing, here we go, come on, man, squeeze it hard, we're losing, that's good, just break it, here we go, leave it, yeah, break it, good idea, thanks, so just We wrap some electrical tape around the neck. So if the bolts come loose again we won't lose them and that's happened to us many times before, okay, let's cut some collars and then mount the wheels. Sounds good, easy to cover, got some stance, dude, that wide track, so now. I'm about to install the brake caliper and bracket while it's in position.
I'm going to tack weld it in several places, remove the caliper and do the final welding, so we're going to remove this motor so we can weld the motor plate and So we can also cut a channel for the chain to go through, they're sweet and you're thinking that yes, I'm going to use the plasma cutter and I'm actually going to cut. This is also because we don't need it, I thought we were going to need it, but we are not doing well in the standings, so what's up buddy? We're going to have protection, right? This is a long chain that we worry about.
On the Rock Rod wagon a few years ago, our chain was like, I don't know, it's probably an eight or nine foot chain, uh, and it was just too flexible, it had too much room and there wasn't enough to tighten it. too long and it was too loose and I think we'll run into the same problem except this time with ten times the horsepower it'll be fine, I mean we're going to have protection, yeah we're going to have a big cage. blocking the chain from taking us there, come on, the chain is on, it's tight but it's going to fall off, um, but let's go ahead and put the hood on at least just to simulate it and see what it's going to look like with a huge shovel off the hood so we taped it here we started with the marker but I decided to tape it because I want to try to be clean to match the rest of the mower but I'm going to go ahead and cut myself now oh , is near.
Ridiculous or what, the chain on the hood has been simulated, only a few things left, one of the main ones is the fuel tank, we were between using a nice new spun aluminum fuel tank from Go Power Sports and, uh, the factory fuel. tank and we just decided that this is just not going to be big enough for a 670. This is probably what dirt track racers use on their 212s and stuff like that, you know, for five laps on a 212, not a 670 We're left with the creaky old factory fuel tank and we're going to mount it in the rear, cut a hole for the filler cap, drill a couple of holes to mount it, and actually mount it under the rear. rear of the Amigo lawn mower like a glove, oh yeah, we could build a big enclosure, but we're not going to make a jack shaft yet, so instead of spending all the time building a big enclosure, we're just going to do something. let's work quickly for now and we also decided that for the moment the battery is going to go here, so now I'm going to try to solder these two pieces of angle iron to make a kind of square tube and that's going to be our chain guard for now we're 99 ready to go just finishing up some wires hey man yeah where are the fuses?
We don't have fuses again, yeah, anyway, all the wires are connected, we have to power down, we have the uh, exciter wire, we have a big thick red one that goes to the battery post on the positive side of the battery, We have brakes and we're using the brakes, oh the brakes aren't ready yet, but yeah, we wanted to make it work with this. escape, so we didn't have to make a single one for today's maiden village, so there are some adjustments that need to be made rock paper scissors shoot trash rock paper scissors shoot rocket paper scissors shoot damn be, oh, oh, oh, and I spun the tires, man, oh that.
It's crazy man the twin 670 b 50 horsepower lawn mower is an epic win I gotta say man I had my doubts about the chain being as long as it is but you really don't listen to it at all , no, I think uh. The little guide rails we made helped to be a game changer, plus the rear sprocket has plates on each side to help keep the chain on, yeah, so I think all that combined was a winner, it spins the wheels. Tires like crazy in the wet. The pavement will probably move dry, we'll have to find out next time.
Shoot rooster tails, man, I mean, it's like everything we wanted it to be next time. We were going to reinforce the frame by trying to do some wheelies. I think maybe take it off road and add the hood, put the hood on, that would be interesting yeah, but anyway we recently hit 500,000 subscribers so thank you all so much for that, we couldn't have done it without you guys, I think when we started the channel like we never thought we would have gotten as much or even 100,000 uh so it's just amazing and we really appreciate your support, you know, your positive comments, your approval and your purchases on our website and so on. along the way, so if you want to help us continue to grow like this, share our videos, tell all your friends, come to our busco beach meetings, buy parts at gopowersports.com with our discount code and check out our merchandise at cars. -cameras.com and visit me on Isaac, it will be cool to do these crazy projects, it's been a lot of fun and we can't wait for them to keep coming out, so thanks everyone, see you next time.
