Eye On Hakko | Introducing the NEW Hakko FX-971 Soldering Station
Jul 11, 2023Hello everyone, thank you for joining us for another episode of ion hako. My name is Kenta and for today's webinar I will be
introducing
the new Hako FX 971soldering
station
. I am very excited today to be able to share this new product with all of you um. A couple of reasons why I'm excited about this new product. One of the main reasons why we really wanted to launch this product. Before, to be honest, you know we were working on this project for a long time. We wanted to launch it again. in 2020, but we all know what happened during that time, stop the world, everything closed, we couldn't release it during that time and it's been two, three years now, so it's been like I said, it's been a long time, there's a We've put a lot of work into this newstation
, so I'm very excited to be able to talk about this new station with everyone here today. What is FX 971? It is our new industrial grade single port
soldering
station. It has 100 watts. There are four different ones. types of handpieces that can actually be connected to the single port station new handpieces along with a new series of tips we have a new iron holder we have a completely new design on the station itself improved performance better user interface and a new control software from Hockle that There's a lot I'm going to go over with everyone today, so make sure you grab a seat, sit back, and pay attention. I'm going to talk about the station.I'll go over the operations. I heard them all. that um and then in the middle I'll do a little comparison comparing it to the 951 and the 971 just a quick comparison and towards the end I'll do a demo of how the hopper control software works okay so let's start with the station yeah. so let's just take a look, that's the side, the front of the station, the back of the station, there are slots so you can carry it, it's a nice flat top. on the surface and take a minute, wait, man, it looks good, right, man, I mean, it looks good, it looks good, I mean, I think it looks good, it looks really good, flat top again on the surface, you could put things on top, look at that, cute.
It even has a cool feature where you can press the button on the back. What that does is give it a nice little angle when you look at the screen now, if you don't want to use that angle, press that button. bring it back up so it looks nice and looks good, looks good, yeah, okay, so that's just starting with the station itself. It is a completely redesigned station on the FX 971 that looks different from our traditional or conventional soldering iron stations. The engineers really took the time to put in the time to design the new station, so I'm really grateful to them for doing that.
You also know, like I said, a new series of handpieces that you can use on the 971. Let's get to the handpieces. There are a total of four different handpieces that you can attach to the 971, but mainly they are the standard and the micro, if you will, if I classified it that way, one is called the FX 9701 and it is the standard iron. also a standard nitrogen version called the FX 9702. Well, these standard irons, whether standard or standard nitrogen, have 95 watts of power. Compared to the previous model in the FN 2027, there are 70 watts of power, but in the new one.
They are rated at 95 watts, you can see it is a nice new one piece handpiece design, you just have to remove the tip and put it on, no more two piece design like you saw on the FM 2027 again, a single piece 95 watt FX 971 handpiece. the tips there is a new series of tips that go along with the new handpiece, they are called t39 tip series, in total there will be 67 different tip shapes or variations which you will be able to choose from when we talk about the t-39 series, the tips and again you can use them on the standard end pieces 9701 and 9702.
Okay, now the iron holder, the iron holder again, this is a new holder design for iron you can see here. Well, we added in a feature of the new iron holders where there are two slots, this one is for a standard iron, this one is for nitrogen irons, but what you can do when you use the iron holder is you can simply remove and swap your tips so fast, easy and secure. In my opinion it is a very nice feature that we added to our new iron holders the iron holders called FH 215. By the way, there are also tip holders on the back, if we can get that rear angle here to store the tips, so if you have extra tips. you store it here and again you can use a tip pull mechanism and swap the tips easily and quickly it comes with a cleaning sponge it comes with a brass cleaning wire there is also a knob on the side that works if you want to adjust the Angle your receptacle a little bit will allow you to do it now when you're done, we won't do it when you're done, but since you're using the iron stand and you want to empty it, it's easy, there's a button. or a tab on the back of the stand right here.
I just press down to remove it, it will give you access. You can clean off the collective solder that builds up underneath or you can use this time to turn or remove the brass. cables too when you're done just pop it back into place and you're ready to go and you'll also notice that on our new iron stands there are no more fancy cables connecting from the back of the stand to the back of the station. so it's a completely wireless dream on the stands, everything is built into the handpiece itself, so it's the standard iron with the new t-39 tip series, new iron stand, same thing, something similar when you talk of the other handpiece that you can use in the fx971, this is the microiron, it's called FX 9703 and again the micro nitrogen version is called FX 9704, but you can see if I give you a comparison, a difference in size between the micro and the standard microplate on the right is obviously thinner, it's much shorter, which allows the operator to work comfortably under a microscope because we all know that when you look down a microscope there is limited space between the scope and your application, so This is great for anyone who works under a microscope.
You can see some of the micro tips I have placed on the back of the iron stand. It is an iron with a microphone compared to a standard iron. Again, these micro tips are designed for soldering micro components. Great when using under a microscope now that tip series is called t50 tip series and in total there are eight different tip shapes that you can use on the microplate okay again t50 tip series eight different shapes between the which you can choose now when it comes to the micro iron holder, similar features, similar features, properly remove the tip and then put it back now, the only difference is with the normal holder, that these slots on the back here on the micro iron They are for holding only the tips, they are not designed for as we did with the normal iron, they are not for men4, putting them back, why is this like this?
Because these are microirons and microiron tips, the ends of the tips of these microons are very thin, they are very fragile and delicate, so you don't want to push them down as that can cause some bends and end up damaging the ends of the tips, so you don't want to do that when it comes to micro-ironing. when it comes to the extreme micro, just remove the tips here that they have placed in the holders, they should already be cooled down and ready to go, so take them, make sure the station is off and then put it back in place, you will still get the receptacle adjustability as you did with the standard iron holder, so those were the standard and micro irons along with the standard t-39 series tips along with the t50 micro series tips that can now be used in the new FX 971 soldering station is okay, so let's dive into the station itself.
I'm going to hit one of my standard irons, make sure I have some power, let me see what tip I have here and if it's two, okay, shots all the way, let's turn on the turn this on, here we go, right off the bat, one Nice bigger LCD screen when it comes to screen on the 971, different from the conventional screen we saw on the FX 951, okay so not only a bigger screen, but now you see the degrees Fahrenheit displayed in the screen so there is no confusion if you are using Fahrenheit or Celsius, there is no confusion anymore you see the Fahrenheit degrees displayed there and you also have the temperature set below 750 and you also have the live sensor temperature on the value Bigger numeric is on the top right so I set the temperature sensor temperature on the top so I can know when I put my iron on the sponge and I can see it responds accordingly okay so that's to start with a big difference when it comes to knife 71. now basic operation, how do you change it?
How do I change the temperature on the 971? Easy, there is a button called Tet button which also acts as the Enter button, you want to continue and press it down there is a temperature icon. which shows the set temperature below, it will start flashing and from here you can use the up and down buttons in combination with the Enter button to make whatever changes you prefer, so for example I'm going to change 750 to 660. and change that 7 down once, press enter and change that five up once to change it to six right now. I'm already at zero, so boom, there you have it.
I just changed my set temperature from six, uh, 750, excuse me, up to 660. Okay. Now there is another way, in my opinion, it is an easier and faster way to change the set temperatures and that is that when using the preset function, you can access the presets by pressing guess what the preset button is, so you press the preset button, there is P2 and while I move. three four five and back to one then one two three four and five so with the FX 971 you can program up to five different presets to the correct station and you can also choose to turn each of the five presets on or off which I'll get More details on that in a minute when I review the software but for now how to change the temperature just go to the preset you want press enter boom easy ok if I want to change it again or change it to a different temperature sorry oops to preset, down boom, easy, okay, so using the preset function is an easier and faster way to change the set temperature again.
There are two ways to do it, you can use it using the temperature button or you can use it. using the preset function, okay, now let's get going while you're sleeping, what does this sleep button do if you press that sleep button? Bam goes into sleep mode. I'm going to wake it up, you can press it or you can just lift the iron. Alright, now that's an additional feature, that's a new feature that we've included in our newer model stations and we've also included in the FX 971. Now the other way you can activate sleep mode is after the amount of pre-programmed time you set. the station defaults to six minutes, but they say it's three minutes which I changed and put here later, after putting my iron in the iron holder, after no action like pressing the buttons, after any movement of the iron, after three minutes, then the iron will work. enter sleep mode properly and then it will lower that temperature to about 200 degree C.
Actually, you can also program or change the sleep temperature time if you go into system parameters, so again, that is the sleep function, um you can activate do it by pressing the sleep button on the station or just placing the iron on the stand let it sit for the amount of time you have programmed it will go into sleep mode okay that was the temperature. Varnish preset button and sleep button now, what is this offset button? If I press, a plus or minus icon appears on the left side of the screen and it says minus 13. So now I have a minus 13 offset input on my station, um offset.
The feature is right out of the package uh let's say for example in the case of the 951 and T15 tips out of the package those tips will be within a certain tolerance plus or minus 15c or plus or minus 27 degrees Fahrenheit now you can expect this t39 Tips to do the same with the compensation function. What it's there for, if you want to put it within a tighter window of your set temperature, now the way you use that offset function on our previous stations is you would have to go into offset mode and then like I'm doing now, you would have to enter the offset number manually, that's how it was on our conventional stations, how would you enter and use the preset function again, obviouslyIt will also save them in Excel format.
Sorry, that is an Excel file as CSV format. It will be below. The result of the automatic calibration, let's say 24 is 971, open it and then here are the results that I did today, the last end is 11 39, so this is probably the last one, a station ID where the handpiece I used, the date and the the time I started the result I passed my set temperature my temperature range roughly what I entered here temperature before when I initially measured it, so I have 62 and the temperature after the offset value, so again this is recording that offset information which is automatically calibrated.
The function is recording all that information for you, so this is very useful for anyone who is already checking the tip temperature. We are using a thermometer and a station. They are already checking the tip temperature, but currently they have to do it. You have to write it down and from that written piece of paper they have to transfer that information to an Excel format to store it digitally. You don't have to do it anymore. That eliminates that step entirely when using the control software. We will be saving that information automatically using hacker control software. A very nice new feature added to our stations.
Now this side of the screen in the control software is a graphical display of the sensor temperature, so right now it's holding steady. at 750 but this is the tip temperature quite correct. You can also choose to log tip temperature data if you choose now to set it to auto-save, so it automatically saves this information every time I turn on the station. save that information and you can also find that information by entering what the temperature is and then the last one is probably here and as you see here it gives you the date and time oh it's the wrong one sorry everyone but what I'm trying What I want to show you is that you can practically store and record that information back into an Excel csns file. such as a temperature and times in CSV format, it will record that information as long as you have it set to record automatically, then it will constantly record the tip temperature data and from here you can choose to use this data in any way you want.
Use it right, so that was the temperature graph screen again, you can choose to auto save or if you don't want to always be recording, you can stop and stop and stop recording when you want to record the tip temperature data, that's right. the benefits the features of the haco Control software again makes the parameter settings duplicate the parameter set from one station to another makes the process much easier plus it can record the results of the automatic calibration it will record tip temperature data that It is a new feature that you will get with the FX 971 Aqua Control software, the software comes included with the fx971, so you do not have to pay any additional cost to be able to use this feature again.
It's a great new tool to use. Well, overall FX 971. It's an improved station, improved performance, improved user interface, new hand pieces, new tip series, new design station, new iron holder design, a lot of new benefits and features extras, all included in this nice compact station that you see here, very excited, very excited for uh. for the release of this product on March 1, 2023, okay, I know that was a lot of information, but that's all I have for the 971. I hope I was able to show everyone not only the difference between the 951 and the 971, but also the new functions. the new benefits when it comes to the 971.
So I hope I was able to tell everyone, thank you again for everyone who watched and tuned in to today's webinar. I appreciate everyone's participation and again on March 1st, stay tuned for the new FX 971. I appreciate all of you are watching and I'll see you next time. Remember, keep your eyes on Hako.
