Feb 27, 2020
Hello YouTube family, my name is Alicia English and I'm so excited because this weekend we're working on a dining

room

transformation

. We are working in collaboration with my favorite McMahons

home

hardware. Our dining

room

has been in need of a major renovation. It's been completely white and there really isn't much in this space since we moved back into our house so what I want to do is transform this whole space and it was perfect timing because just on Thursday last week I was filming a commercial for

home

hardware and needed to be a painting model so I could paint in an area of my own home, a perfect opportunity to paint my dining room and work in collaboration with my favorite store, so we made our footage for Thursday's commercial and Part of this room is already painted.

Today I have the challenge of painting the rest of this space as well as doing some crafts and improvements that I want to do and from watching my videos you know that I am going to do this all adrift and almost from scratch. budget so let's start creating my plan for the dining room is to give it a bohemian feel and I really wanted this room to be a focal point where we spend a lot of time here with our family so I really wanted this place to be really elegant. I've been adding little touches of black around the house so I'm going bold with this one and painted the entire bottom perimeter of this dining room black and I'm actually using their amazing natural paint and it's eco-friendly. and made in Canada and I love this black it's called black cat in case you want to buy it yourself so I'm going to paint the rest of the bottom this black and while we were getting our pictures on Thursday I had to Paint the reverse of how I would have normally done it.

Normally I would have painted the white paint on the fresh top and then started painting the black on the bottom, but because of the way we needed to get the images, I had to do it the other way around and so on. today I'm going to reverse and go back and do the white, make sure all my lines for my black are perfect and then I'm going to transform the chairs in my dining room set, so yesterday I did some painting. and even a little bit on Thursday and since I didn't want to have to rinse my rolling pin and I was going to continue using it for this project I put it in a plastic bag, wrapped it a little bit around the handle and then I put it in the refrigerator and my rolling pin is still like new and I can continue using it without having to rinse everything.

Let me see things so everyone is out to play. I have all the painting done in this room. I have some small ones. There are touch-ups to do once I remove the rest of the teeth, so I've taped the floor to make sure my molding is painted a nice bright white, so I'll remove it from time to time. As for upholstering my chairs, I'm really excited about the fabric I chose, so I can't wait to show you how they look. You pave yourself wanting to give a little advantage to all sides. I really needed those lines because there are such contrasting colors that are really sharp in every way, so I'm really happy with the way the Peters tape worked and he chose the blue painter's tape.

It was normally green and I'm so happy I chose blue because it really worked a lot better so a few months ago I used some material I had on hand and reclaimed the chair seats from the kitchen dining room table and I like it a lot of the fabric, but now that I have decided what I want. In fact, what I'm going to do in our space, this doesn't go with what I'm going to do, this is a great fabric and it has looked great on the chairs, but I decided to use something a little darker, so what I did .
Yesterday I went to a lens factory and bought some fabric and this is a really amazing fabric because it's eco-friendly and it's made from recycled material so I love that about this fabric so I'm going to take back my seats that I have. six seats so I can recover and I'm going to use my pneumatic stapler so I can upholster this. This is a great tool and I have used it for many upholstery projects. It was a pretty inexpensive tool and really like that, so I'm going to use my sewing scissors and I'm going to cut to have a little bit of excess on all sides and I'm going to make sure to polster with the right side of the fabric facing up that I need .
Flip it over and then I'm going to cut a square around it to give myself a little bit more room to be able to staple it now because I have a pattern that has some lines on it and I want to make sure I can line them up. so I know where my pattern will be directly on my seat because I don't want the lines facing sideways when I upholster it. I'm going to observe it as best I can. The floral pattern is very easy because I don't have to do that, but I just have a little bit of a line, so I'm going to make sure it's straight, so what I'm going to do is make one in the middle on each of my four sides. . and then I'm going to work my way and show you how I do my corners.
I'm giving the existing fabric here because I know it's clean and I know it's perfectly laid out because I just did it. A few months ago, so I'm going to staple. I left more than enough fabric on all sides so I can trim a little at the end. It's better to have it a little too big than too small. So what I'm going to do with my corners is take the center point that I have right at the corner of my chair. First I'm going to put it in, I'm going to put a staple and then what?
What I do is take the side pieces here and tighten them here. I just make sure I can get this kind of everything from my center here just to make sure it's nice and flyy and doesn't have any big bubbles. here it's very easy to do the corners when you do the center part first, then I can do the other side the same way I did the other one by pulling it tight and putting in a staple, then you can see from this side that I have a very nice corner and I will do the same with my other three corners that I had, it is very easy to upholster the seats of the chairs, that's why when I did the one I was doing just a few months ago and I knew that maybe it wasn't going to be like that. my fabric forever I didn't worry too much because I knew it's very quick to be able to change this, so now that my four corners are in place and my fabric turned out perfectly straight, I'm very happy with it now.
I have some excess stuff lying around here that I need to make sure is stapled tight, so you're just going to tighten it up a little bit and then apply the staples all the way around that you don't want. very close to the edge here and you don't want to be completely in the middle, it's just not necessary. I'm going to cut out a lot of this excess factor, but I want to just run in a straight line all Yesterday, while I was at the fabric store, I couldn't find any fabric that I thought would be great for curtains.
I didn't want to spend a lot of money because I need big tabs that are huge windows in this dining room. space, so I didn't really want to buy new curtains, it might cost me a few hundred dollars even if I bought them on clearance, so finding the right fabric wasn't really possible at the fabric store, it was very expensive and just needed buy it The yardage to make some curtains is going to cost me too much so I decided to go to the thrift store and looked in the curtain section and they always find really amazing curtains there but no luck and I didn't find any that I thought would be good for space.
I just wanted white curtains for now until I can really decide what I want later. I hadn't really decided what I wanted for the texture of the curtains, so I went with it. I found a large duvet cover that was queen size for only $6.99, so what I'm going to do is take it apart and turn it into a bunch of tabbed curtains that I can use for my dining room, so I'm going to cut this into two pieces big and then in 2 4 and then join it all the way around so I can make it slide over my rods.
I think this might actually be a cake, it's not Queen, but it's pretty big for a Queen. I think there's a lot of fabric here for seven dollars, although I decided to make some pocket panel curtains that way. I know I can slide the rods I already have over the top, so what I did is make them reach all the other edges. and then I'm going to make my little pocket right now, so I'm going to sew completely along the front three down. I am very happy with the way the dining room is turning out. I still have In some projects I want to tackle this week, I tried to try to make my own ball hole lamp, which was an epic fail, so I have a plan for how I'm going to find something different so I can use it, so that's something which I will have to address in another video.
I'm also looking for the perfect round mirror to put on a side wall that we still have blank in the dining room. I'd like to find something vintage if I can. I'm looking for a round mirror that maybe has a wood toned frame to accentuate the floors and our table, the wood that we have in this space. I also know what I need to add some more boho textiles to this space, but I would like to sew my own projects, so I'm going to look for the perfect fabrics so I can add those colors to this space, so this room is still a work in progress. progress.
I wanted to be able to show him. What our homeport collaboration was starting to look like for a commercial, you guys are going to get a little more reveal of this space later in the week when the commercial comes out. I'm excited for you to see that it was so fun to collaborate with them and I love my beauty tone paint, so for me to be able to support a Canadian company, not to mention a local store that I love, and I'm really surprised that it really means a lot for me on my channel, so thank you very much. to Home Hardware McNaughton's for being able to help us with the paint and things we needed for this project.
I think boho

decor

is really moving forward and as I collect some stray items so I can place them in this space, it's really starting to hit. life, the queen duvet cover I traded from this $6.99 turned into four Todd Kerns that I can use in this space. All I did was make some rod pockets. I was able to sew all my seams and get it to the perfect length sooner. For this room I think I might eventually add some cute little tassels or maybe even just a little bit of size here, but we'll see how I go with the lighting so far this morning, the lighting really wasn't really.
Actually, very good filter. I wanted to make sure it was thick enough to block out light when we wanted, so I'm very happy with the fabric, it was much cheaper than buying curtains and I couldn't even find any nice ones. I wanted a discount so I cut the comforter into four panels and it was the perfect solution for my curtains. The recycled material I used to upholster the seeds turned out very well and I think it will be much more functional if the children eat at the table with darker seats instead of the lighter fabric. I love the fabric.
They turned out great and I am very pleased with how soft and fluffy they feel. Now it gives that extra texture to this space. I'm always looking for baskets. because I think baskets are very useful in many different ways and what I'm looking for is a bunch of bohemian wicker baskets, maybe even ones that have some color in them, then I can put a lot of plants in and I want to add a lot more greenery and plant life in This space. Many of our garden centers are starting to incorporate many of their indoor and outdoor spring plants, so I'm looking forward to adding a lot more greenery to this space.
I think it really brings life to a space when you have real life plants and I know I have huge windows here and then I'll be able to put them in this space and make it really effective for them so I'm thinking about putting some under where I put the mirror round and then under my wood fence on the other wall because I don't really need a lot of furniture in the dining room. I'm having a hard time deciding what I should put under this space where my wood construction is, we did this wood well in one of our previous videos and I loved it and I think it fits perfectly in this space, it has my favorite touch of green so I know I need to add a little more color to this space so my only idea was to add some of those bohemian fabric poufs that they would sit on and the kids could then take them to the

decor

that is connected to our dining room and that would be a little more seating area in that corner.
I tried sitting on a bench, but it didn't look right, so I'm trying to think of a different idea for that, so if you have any suggestions on what I should put on that little L-shaped corner stand there, let me know in the comments section, so to finish off the space, I know I need to add a little pop of color and I'm looking for some earthy tones, maybe some coppery oranges, mustard yellow, greens, different boho Earth colors, really. I have a whole little palette in my head and what I'm thinking. I also want to add that round mirror and some plants and I'm looking for the perfect lamp thinking maybe something.
Wicker and wood just to tie everything together, but I'm not exactly sure. I think that whenfind it, I'll know it's the perfect option and I'll be able to show it to you in an upcoming video. Let me know in the comments section if you have any additional thoughts and what you think of the set.

transformation

so far. I love the contrast of the blackened shape and I'm so happy with the beauty of the shade P was eco-friendly and natural and I'm so excited with how it gave this room a little more glam for its February giveaway.
