Okay, what a mess, Express, so right now we're heading to Holly's. We will have the initial meeting and

tour

of her space. She has been interested in her heart about what exactly she wants. She also wants to be practical, so this. It's going to be a lot of fun since she is a new homeowner and is looking to demo and Renault basically our entire house. I figured what better place to start than her beautiful master suite, so let's go there and see how. the day unfolds I want to bring a bottle of champagne because we couldn't celebrate

2020

together so we have to do it right now okay let's do the damn thing we'll come back and then we'll play.

I promise right when you enter Holly's

room

, you can see that there is a closet on the left. She's actually going to remove the doors and empty the closet off camera because we're going to save that project for another day. Holly won't compromise on the size of her bed and I don't blame her, she's the king of California and she's absolutely amazing, she's like a cloud to sleep on so we'll keep her but it's my job to figure out how to make the

room

still look good. bigger than it is and keeping the bed bigger, obviously the two things that I always start with and tell them are they going to make the most drastic change or change the color of the paint and the light fixtures and I actually partnered with Lutron to improve Holly's light. system Sheree has Lutron in her house, but I wanted to upgrade her to the newer ADA system and I'll show you that a little later too, everything in this room feels very weedy, but like you're pulling down for the floor and that's because that she has these dark, bulky furniture that makes everything go to the floor and I want to lift everything up and make things feel a little more spacious.

More Interesting Facts About,

extreme bedroom makeover transformation room tour 2020...

You can be legit here. Holly is a boss in the back. She's on a conference call right now, so while I was working on other room

makeover

s, Holly asked me if there was anything she could do and she went above and beyond, cleaned out her entire closet and made a in-depth tutorial. about how I built this closet, but we're basically going to gut it to make room for all the clothes from the dresser to fit in here and then so we can get rid of that dresser completely, there's an awkward hallway with a lot of the wall space I was dealing with to like it, twirl my thumbs, that's not an appropriate saying and figure out what I need to do with it, and we're going to make some wall decor for your space that will be customizable in size to make sure. that works for us and not against us.

Paulie already created a Pinterest board after we started discussing that we were really going to tackle this space and that it was minimalist, but when we started talking she definitely wanted to get away from all the boho. How things looked while measuring the room, I kept it in mind as I continued drawing in my notebook and sometimes in my notebooks I also start drawing the layout of different walls to give me an idea of what took or can go there. That way I can start to orient my head and guide the room, but to be exactly what the client in this case wants, oh my goodness, and your winning ticket, I really can't forget that that's the word clothing that I personally have in this moment.

As I mentioned before, Holly wanted to be very practical and that's something that one of my big goals this year was to do

makeover

s and surprise people. I wanted to teach you what to do and show you that you are more than capable of continuing to tackle spaces or just feel inspired to maintain your space and Holly went above and beyond for you, this was so much fun, I actually had a mini weekend getaway with Paul already I haven't seen him since he was out of town and while I was out of town she painted the entire room, tore up the carpet, moved out all the furniture with her boyfriend and basically set up the space for me to come back and put on to work.
I explain how to tear out the carpet in my playroom makeover. I think many of you are familiar with this, but I'll link to it if not. I'm just going around and picking up all the nails in the concrete and Holly is going around and scraping off the excess glue to prep the floor as best we can, once we spend enough time killing our arms we move forward by just taking out the existing closet shelves that I'm going to redo it in part two, basically because I really want to show you how to build a closet and don't rush it, oh and you guys got in the way.
Sorry for giving this room some depth and some character overall because I think painting this small master suite all one color won't do it justice. I'm going to make an all-black shiplap wall by tearing off a few 10-inch wide pieces of the thinnest plywood I can find, which is underneath the laminate, and installing it like I did for my fireplace makeover, only larger. scale. I learned the hard way last time. time doing the shiplap in Ali's bathroom, where I didn't trim the edges and you can see the color behind the wall if it doesn't match the wood, so I trimmed it first and moved on to installing the first piece of shiplap, which is six feet and a half long because I'm using a 4x8 sheet of plywood I just cut it into ten inch pieces that I tore up at Home Depot so you can do this if you don't have power tools by the way make sure it was painted level between the layers and then I use a piece of the thin bottom laminate as a gap to make sure it is even on the next board that I installed from my field the last time I used construction adhesive to glue the boards together.
The wall to make sure it was secure with my nail gun this time I'm just using a quick wick with a little bit of wood glue which makes life so much easier. I built the holes and waited for the filler to dry. sanded again, it's smooth and it was around 8 p.m. At this point, I wanted to go home and feed Kali before she got really upset and Holly decided to take over and paint the overlapping film and send it to me. I literally came up with it. I had to take the remaining plywood home and trim it.
I left it on my table saw so I brought it back the next day and basically used the opposite color set from the day before, installed those pieces and then Holly and I moved on to installing this lamp which I actually kept because I was going to Lo I used it in my living room remodel but it was too small but this lamp was very complicated and then I had a ceiling fan which meant the black wire was always hot and I felt really weird installing it so I passed Install the curtain rods a little higher than before to make the room feel a little higher.
Little tip: If you are installing curtain rods on top of something that is longer, you may need a middle support because the rod could start to bend and sag. which you don't want, so I have three rods there and I'm using a double rod so I can have sheer or full blackout curtains as an option for it. Also, this rat tail keeps appearing throughout this tutorial. Can't. After hanging the rods, I still feel knocked out hanging the curtains as I need all the light I can get. I'm going to fill in the holes from where the rod was hanging previously and you can see the difference there is.
Go forward. hanging artwork too just because I was getting impatient and needed to see something else on the walls. I sound like a mime right here, but I'm basically remembering to tell you that when I do a little makeover in your bathroom and it's a small bathroom, let me tell you that I will implement and build a sliding door that I will also include in that tutorial, so there will be a lot of things fun at the end of the night. I decided to patch the concrete with some. of grout is mixed where the nail holes were split up a lot and this is where I need to explain why we are going to do the floor how are we listening to the words coming out of my mouth right now people not everyone has a budget do everything at once time, so the reason we're going ahead with the floor as is is because there's a strange edge coming out of the room onto the tile that already exists in Holly's room and we're not sure what's underneath until Lo broke and Holly is interested in doing the floor all at once rather than room by room, so we opted to patch up the holes, fill in the cracks and just paint it.
I also teach the design as I did when I built. My bar in my house to make sure everything I had fit and looked good the next day, after the concrete finished drying around the edges, I went back and repaired the cracks with something they recommended at Home Depot. Employee. I've linked absolutely everything I could that I used throughout this makeover below for you while drying. I decided to upgrade Holly's current Lutron to a Lutron playhouse and a couple of other fun things that I'll show you. Throughout the rest of the video, I've installed Lutron products before here on my channel, so I'll link that for you, we're actually a Lutron home personally, so it was fun to implement a couple more things that I don't have in our home.
Now I need, I think forever, to open the package, which is the hardest part of installing any type of product, but once you get over it, it's very easy and what I like most is that most smart switches require a neutral wire. However, many homes built before the 1980s do not have one, creating a barrier for those who want to begin their smart home journey because Lutron Theta dimmers are designed to work regardless of whether they have a neutral wire or No, and I know that might sound confusing right now, but I swear that once you start taking advantage of electricity a little, you'll start to learn why it makes your life so much easier.
You also don't have to sacrifice style for smart lighting because Lutron theta smart dimmers work with a wide variety of dimmable bulbs, meaning you can still enjoy those old-style bulbs, if that's your thing, I gotta show you this first scale size, it's basically a requirement right now, if you want me to redo your house, you have to have a dog. or an animal of some kind, preferably a dog, after the sealant I poured or simply repaired the cracks with drying. I went through with a 220 and hand sanded them as best I could. The reason I'm NOT going crazy on this floor is because, first of all, the budget will go to absolutely everything else you'll see in the finished product and the floor will be last after we tackle all the other rooms in Holly's house, so keep that in mind, don't give me that. polish it or whatever this is what we're doing this is how we're handling it and it's not like it's always home and that was their decision and that's what we're doing until I can lay the floor and show them how to do it throughout the At home, bear paint makes concrete floor paint, which is what we bought at our local Home Depot and you can actually have them custom color it or at least in our case they told us they could.
I'm not sure if that happens in all stores, so we got this charcoal gray one that Polly previously pinned to her Pinterest board. I carried that paint all the way across the room to that threshold, which meant that the tile I told you about was placed unevenly in the room, why? We're not doing the floor right now because we're not sure what's under that slab about breaking it. I'm not going to make a bigger mess than I already am in this house after the paint has dried. Holly added a second layer while I was away, she also built the bed frame and put it in the room for me and I was completely taken aback because I am getting more and more excited to help people who want to help with a makeover and learn so that they feel more than capable of coping. any other space and I feel like that's exactly what's happening with Holly here because actually growing up she herself was starting to take care of a room where they could start scrubbing the floor in her

bedroom

when she was a kid and her parents had to finish it.
I thought it was really funny that that trait continued to this point. I added some floating nightstands with brackets that I bought from Home Depot, as well as sconces that you can plug directly into the wall and control a mirror with a switch. He's going to open the room. I don't need to get a big one. I just put it in this corner so when she comes out she can check if it's okay. I look great. Let's go out and then a chair that I previously already had in my office and I'm currently renewing it. I will NOT be taking credit for this next build.
I found it on Pinterest. It's super simple. They are basically three pieces of wood of the length and depth you want for your console. To be, it will be a floating TV console and then there will be one, two, three, four different sizes of the depth and height that you would like your console to be and theattached with pocket hole screws, some glue and my nail gun but I'm going to the desk because this is basically stealing someone else's idea and I've linked it below so you can give him full credit again for the next one.
I've linked to the original creator for this build for inspiration, but I'm basically left with nothing. I screwed someone in pairs to create a black frame and painted it black all around. I'm going to hang it directly on the wall and then add a quote floating shelf between that frame to create more storage space for jewelry and small knick-knacks on photo displays As soon as all my custom projects and crafts for the space were dry, I installed them like this nightstand table which I wish I had made a little longer but I contacted Holly and she liked the flush look so don't come to me about that, the floating console what I did was find a stud, drilling it directly into the wall, using my level to make sure it was obviously level with the wall and new drywall anchors where there were no studs as far as the framing DIY I just showed you.
I'm basically attaching this piece, I think it's four inches deep, using pocket hole screws that attach to the black frame at the corners and then I went back with smaller brackets and painted them white to add extra support for the weight. This is me losing my mind at the electrician because he literally left in the middle of his job and he told me he knew he was coming back. but he had to install this lamp, which I could usually do myself, but there were literally 16 wires coming out of the individual lamp and I wasn't going to deal with them.
Remember how I said Holly wouldn't compromise on her size. bed that is not necessary if you turn off your bed frame, it can make a big difference. We went with something much more minimalist without a headboard because we basically turned that accent wall into the headboard itself and then made something lower. to the thinnest floor in stature and opened up the room so much that we were able to add a bench at the end of the bed if we wanted for over-the-bed decor. I tried my best to do some inhale exhale calligraphy and then I went back to an old DIY I did to renovate my laundry room and use a larger font to create an inhale exhale that I didn't have to draw by hand because I was terrible at it.
Holly got a 3/4 piece. inch plywood cut to 20 by 30. I think the measurements were I painted one side white and then used some quick wick on my speed square to place the letter according to the way I wanted them, you can space them out the way you want. The fast fuse dries pretty quickly, so you can add a frame. I used one by two, like for the black picture frames above, and then added picture frames to the back and hung them directly above the bed. Picture hooks, not the frames you want. Being able to get the hooks that are going to support the weight of the wall decor you are using with a little tip.
I use masking tape like you've seen above to measure the height and width of what you're hanging to make sure you're going in and nailing exactly where you need instead of just looking and putting a million nails in the wall, you can also level the tape with a level to make sure that when you drive the nails into the wall you hang any wall The court you have is level or you can use a laser level or there is a Rio as a wall level. There are a lot of different options. I bought decorative pillows that matched the bedding Holly already had and then added a couple of blankets that you might notice. a couple of them from my house I thought would look much better here and I added a bench at the end of the bed and everything was ready to go.
She installed everything on the Lutron, which I'll walk you through in three. seconds and now we can step back and see what a

transformation

three years ago, if you had told me I could produce something like this, I wouldn't have believed it because that's when I started getting into power tools. I'm not very well versed in interior design and I'm not very well versed in either yet, but my main goal is to show you in every tutorial, it doesn't matter what it is, I'm just trying, I'll keep moving forward and eventually you will. I will be able to produce something at this level if you stay consistent, no matter how great your progression is, keep it up.
Many thanks once again to Lutron for sponsoring today's video. It definitely wouldn't have been impossible. this school with the details with the electricity towards the end without you, something I have to say is that even if you do not have a shed system for your house, you will be able to connect everything together, there is this option, for example, in my case. plug it directly into the wall where the bed is and plug in the sconces under the bed and it comes with a remote that will control your sconces so even if you're just looking for some type of control you don't necessarily need a full system it's always good have it because it makes your life much more comfortable.
You can also get a table pedestal, if you want to move it, you can stick the remote control wherever you want, but you can also get it. a wall plate and hang it next to your and their switches, if that's your thing. Holly loves her Alexa and I was really put off that Casada integrates seamlessly into that as well as Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit to give you hands-free control of your lighting so you can turn on the lights or set the scene with just your voice and I'll hear Holly scream sometimes and I think she's talking to me, but she's literally just checking the electricity in her new room.
Alexa turns on bedtime. I hope you guys enjoyed this room makeover. I know I did it and I loved having an accomplice all the time. She just helped me along the way. She also fed me well, hydrated me, and thoroughly entertained me, so I think my requirements moving forward are willing people. to help with the makeovers and you also have to have a dog and want to update the lighting system in your house too because you have to leave the old and come in with the new people. I'll see you soon for another DIY.
