[Easy Korean Recipe in Tagalog] TTEOK-BOKKI (Spicy Rice Cake)

[Easy Korean Recipe in Tagalog] TTEOK-BOKKI (Spicy Rice Cake)
Hi welcome to DeliciousLee With Ara today we're going to cook

tteok

bokki

which is the most popular street food in Korea Are you ready? let's start so basically,

tteok

bokki

it is the most popular snack in korea it is a little bit

spicy

and sweet and if or maybe you've seen some of

Korean

dramas or movies or if you've been in Korea you'll see this selling on basically by vendors in the street, small shops and small stores especially to students after the school this very popular maybe I can compare this like fish ball or kikiam stand here where children goes after school but it is a little bit

spicy

and for this one its super super simple to make you can make this maybe in less than like 10 minutes or so problem is its ingredients are a little bit hard to find if we don't have any nearby

Korean

Groceries so of course the main  ingredient is our

tteok

or

rice

cake

this one we can buy in

Korean

Groceries uhm, normally when it got here in the Philippines they come in packs and frozen that's why I had to soaked this in the water because when I cooked it directly out of the freezer when it is frozen and we will cooked it, it will break out like it will cracked so it will not look so good so lets soaked it into the water for like uhm, until it defrost a little and soften so this is basically the

rice

cake

that you can see from groceries and another one, its basic sauce is the chili paste this chili paste you can get also.. now I can see that its in...

supermarkets or even

Korean

Groceries you can see this is made out of chili, gluten, sugar and syrup and sort of it's a fermented sauce that will be the base of our tteopokki but I've seen mostly are confused in

Korean

chili paste sometimes you will see like this one which is also sold in stalls this one is brown, it's called Dwenjang, this is like misso paste of

Korean

normally used on stew and the red one, this is the chili paste so don't be confused with the two today we will use this chili paste so this is very important and I really strongly suggest that we buy please by the

Korean

brand uhm, the taste will be a little bit different if you use like other chili sauce like Thai or other whatever chili sauce that we have because there would be a different texture in its flavor so this is a very important ingredient our chili paste and also we need our chili powder this one is slightly uhm.. it added color and also another layer of spiciness because sometimes when we use this our sauce will be a little thicker that's why we need to supplement it with our chili powder and another ingredient is our fish

cake

or odeng in

Korean

if you cannot find this one in your nearby groceries we can replace it or substitute it with kikiam or even squid balls or fish balls because this one is made out of or it tastes like kikiam with a little like fishball, it's at the middle in between so this one is odeng and of course we need our soy sauce, sugar and for...

our additional ingredients for our

tteok

bokki

we have our leeks, our cabbage and boiled eggs so as we have prepared these ingredients let's start and its very

easy

and very simple to make so first, lately we soaked our

rice

cake

into water because normally if we can get the freshly made ones, it's better 'cause it is little bit soft and chewy but because its frozenI had to slightly thaw it in the water, I'll just stain it let's strain it there, this is actually one kilo of

rice

cake

which is.. yeah, soft and chewy and delicious to make there, we'll just strain it there and then we'll cut our odeng or this is like uhm, kikiam and squid balls mixed together so I'll just cut it, so for around1 kilo of tteopokki this is around good for 4 to 5 we'll add around maybe one person I'll allocate around one sheet of odeng it's really up to you if you want more odeng or if you don't like odeng it's ok also with omit especially if you're like vegetarian it's okay to remove but the traditional one really comes with odeng so 'cause these are around good for 4 to 5 I'll prepare around 4 sheets of odeng, I've cut it in half and actually it's really up to you what ever design you've wanted but you know I've grew up with my Lola (Grandmother) she always make it like triangle so I'll also make it like triangle or whatever artistic design that you want, yeah.. it's really up to you so we prepared...

our odeng and if you don't have, you can also use kikiam, fishball or squidball as a substitute and then our cabbage this is like half of a small cabbage that I wanted to add, so we'll slice it I will remove to hard part in the middle there we'll remove it cause its a little bit hard to chew so we'll remove that from the cabbage and just slice it thinly later we will add it to our

tteok

bokki

actually

tteok

bokki

comes in different kinds of flavor, sometimes there is the though of course a traditional one that we're doing today we're going to make the red chili uhm.. the red chili paste base for now we have like soy.. soy based

tteok

bokki

or even oil based

tteok

bokki

and maybe on our next episodes we'll prepare our

tteok

bokki

in different flavors too and then we have our leeks actually I really really love leeks and if you have noticed

Korean

dishes are very very fond of using leeks so I'll just slice the leeks like this so it can be easily cooked and you can just chopped the leeks in whatever sizes that you want, whatever shape you want me I want like a little bit long, so maybe around two inches some, they make it like very short, some like it lengthwise or diagonal it's really up to you so what every design, whatever lengths and sizes and design that you want you can cut it so we have here leeks, one whole leeks but actually you know what you can add and add more leaks as you want if you want to have around two or three it's...
really... it depends because leaks is giving some taste of sweetness, this kind of like it is like a different spice that onions cannot give and I have here boiled eggs around three pieces and when you boil an egg as an insider tip while the water is boiling you can add like a sprinkle of vinegar it won't crack, I mean it will not uhmm.. yeah. it will..it will help you retain the full shape of the egg so that's an insider tipa round eight to nine minutes of fully boiled egg and now we'll start our fire very very

easy

to make so we'll prepare a wok cause there is a sauce in our

tteok

bokki

so we need something that can hold our uhm.. sauce basically the main ingredient is gonna be our water I've prepared here 1.5 liters, actually 1.3 liters of water but there is no really basis on how much of water needed as long as it has to be enough to cover all our

tteok

bokki

you know in korea when you go out the streets almost all those vendors who cook, they stir it the whole day because when it dried, you can add water if you want it like saucy or thicker you can add chili paste or chili powder so it's really..there's really no basis on how much water needed now we put our water that I think it is enough to cover our

rice

cake

which is 1 kilogram we will add sauce, but this sauce as you see very

easy

with its ratio we'll use soy sauce, sugar chili powder, chili paste in the same ratio so it means, I have this tablespoon that I have so I'll use 3...
tablespoons of soy sauce so ratio is even. so 3 tablespoons of soy sauce and you just ahh..we just all mix it together with our water that we are boiling 1, 2 so I want to use around 3 tablespoons each and after seasoned with all sauce if maybe you think a little uhm. blonde or you want it much more

spicy

or much more sweet you can freely adjust and this is chili powder you can buy this also in

korean

groceries or like in local supermarkets now I see that many are selling so around 3 tablespoons that same ratio so

easy

right? so three spoons also as well of the chili powder and for our brown sugar or washed sugar I actually want to always like to use brown sugar because for me I think its flavoring is good than the regular white, so I'll use 3 tablespoons also yeah just you know or if you want much sweeter you can add more but not now, maybe after we mixed it we can add and for most importantly which is our base of this sauce is gonna be our chili paste maybe this one in the groceries are like 150 to 200 it p

rice

rate, I forgot the exact but it's not that expensive because you can consider it that we won't be using all of it for now you just open the foil and we will use only small amount, three spoons and we can hide it to be used for our other

recipe

s to come so also same ratio, three spoons one, a little thick

spicy

, yes I know. but I know you will love it it is not just like just only

spicy

because we have this this is also made out of gluten and...
all these kinds of I think corn syrup or

rice

syrup so the spiciness is a little different compared to other chili paste and chili sauce now we have here and then we'll just mix and mix it so it blends all of what we've added so this will be the basis of.. the base of our sauce for

tteok

bokki

now after we mixed it all together lets have a taste and if we like the uhm level of spiciness, sweetness and a little uhm.. saltiness or just a bite of the taste of salt from our soy sauce we can start putting all our ingredients so basically if we've already mixed all of our soup base or sauce base, we're basically done so now we can see that our sauce is boiling don't worry about the level of water or taste of your sauce because we'll balance it in one by one with all of our ingredients and then later on if its after we put all our other ingredients and if too thick then we can just adjust always with water that's why it is very simple very

easy

to do even your kids can make it if you want

spicy

that's why it is very popular snack and

easy

to make so now we have our boiling soup base or sauce I will add our

rice

cake

. slowly wait, I'll add I'll use our spatula uhm.. it is really

easy

to make you just have to add everything all together and then just boil so there we have, we have added our

rice

cake

the one I lately thawed in the water that is slightly warm, slightly cold I mean and then we'll add our fish

cake

or if you cannot find in...
your nearby areas you can substitute with squid balls but of course the authentic one is odeng so we have we'll just add it see its

easy

to make, super

easy

to make. once you boiled it, it's then done and then we'll add our leaks there I have added one whole leaks and then the cabbage maybe later I'll just boiled first our

tteok

bokki

so now I think it is slightly half boiled our

tteok

bokki

, we will add our cabbage the wonderful thing about our

tteok

bokki

recipe

is that there's no such thing as like it is overcooked because you know the longer we boiled it, the more the sauce will simmer in the

rice

cake

and then the odeng the fish

cake

, so it will be much more tastier so you know this is really amazing, very simple just you know mix and then boil and then until, we will monitor. we will just monitor that it will not dried out so lately we added cabbage, now we will add our boiled eggs but don't stir it heavily 'cause the egg might break in our sauce, our sauce will be messy but I want it like, the flavor of sauce to simmer a little in our egg white, so later when we bite we have this very rich flavor of egg also with the spiciness of gochujang so there we just have, maybe just luck whom will get the egg now so let's just wait for it to boil once again so as we keep on stirring it and while its boiling you can see that the sauce is slightly thickening and then now you can taste it and then check if the level of sweetness or saltiness or...
spiciness you wanted to achieve is okay so let's just taste a little bit for me as you see lately I've used the 1, 1, 1, 1 ratio, but for me I think it's perfect as it is but of course for you if you want it more

spicy

or if you want it sweeter or saltier, if you think it lacks a little bit of salt at this moment don't add any more soy sauce just add salt 'cause if we add soy sauce maybe it will darken its texture and new color so taste it and adjust accordingly and now our

tteok

bokki

is getting thicker I think it's almost ready to be served so I will prepare our table taa daaa !... this is

tteok

bokki

one of the famous

Korean

Snack that is for sure

easy

to make if you just followed what I did lately so once again please continue to follow our channel to see more of the taste of Korea  in your own homes so see you next time bye bye
