Embarassing Things I Didn't Know About the Porsche Cayman Before I Bought One

Feb 27, 2020
So I'm willing to admit that when I

bought

my 2007 Porsche, there were a few

things

I

didn

't realize and I'm a little embarrassed by them, but not enough not to share them with you, so here it is. so the first time I drove this car to my parents' house I was on the highway and I was, you

know

, it's a new Porsche, what are you going to do? There's no one on the street, so I tried to go fast as soon as I hit. At 85 miles per hour the engine stalled like it was hitting a rev limiter and I thought what the hell is going on so I stopped and looked in the owner's manual.

I found out that on the on-board computer you can change the top speed and the dealer had set the top speed at 85 miles per hour so I couldn't get over it so I just set it to the max and could only go a little over 85 miles per hour, so The first time I took this car to get gas, I took a risk, walked up to the pump with the pump on the left side, and found out there's no filler cap here, so I said, "Okay, I bet I'll go for a walk." and I went to the other side, so I went around to the other side and then, oh, wait, there's nothing here and then I had to think to myself and finally I realized, oh, there's the fuel filler cap and that was pretty embarrassing because I'm sure someone was looking at me like you don't

know

where the filler cap is on your own car and yeah, that was pretty embarrassing.

More Interesting Facts About,

It took me a second to realize that the filler cap and gas tank are actually right here. Another embarrassing side note is that this is actually my second fuel filler cap because I took the first one off and I usually put it here but I guess I was in a hurry or something and left it there so I closed it like this and then it It fell and I was so embarrassed that I told the dealer that someone stole it. One super useful feature that I

didn

't realize until months after purchasing this car, were these cool little compartments right here under the armrest.

I had no idea they could be opened and ended up using them. for trash and stuff but it's super useful and both sides have it and I guess you could put maps in there or sunglasses or whatever but like I said I only use it for trash but it's a really cool feature another feature along the same lines as I didn't realize until a couple of days after I

bought

it, they were these compartments, so these type of saddlebag compartments, I guess you would call them, they are also very useful for storing small

things

like, for example , in this one I have an umbrella and then in the other I have some cleaning supplies and that could be there, the key goes on the left, so if we go in here then the key hole is here now, obviously, I knew that when I bought the car because I took a test drive. but it takes a while to get used to it and the first few times I got in this car in the morning I looked this way and then I had to change hands and go this way, but now I'm used to putting my key in. my left hand and put it there with my left hand like this turning the key and using my right hand to lift the lever here, which is exactly what Porsche wants you to do because it's like the old days when they raced in lamaa and the drivers had to run to their cars and start them before they shut off a couple more things about this key when I first bought this car I didn't realize you had to press and hold the trunk button on the front or the trunk on the back to open it, you can't just press it like that, you have to press and hold before it opens.

This was a little worrying when I first brought my car home and I kept pressing and pressing and pressing both trunk buttons and nothing happened. I thought: what the hell is broken? But then a friend of mine who lives in the same place I lived asked me: Why don't you try holding it? It's pretty silly because it seems obvious now, but at first I didn't realize there's a lever here, so if you don't know it's there and you try to lift the boot, it's not going to work, you actually have to do it. lever right there, you have to grab that lever and pull it to the right and then it will open and the shame doesn't end there because when you close it it's not actually completely closed, you still have to press it to close it completely, press directly on the badge and It won't stain any paint around here.
Another note about the trunks is that while there is a lot of volume, the volume is divided in such a way that it is very difficult to fit. a large size suitcase here, so a large size suitcase has to go in the front seat or else it will get squashed under the rear windshield and, for example, if you put it here, which is the only other place it could fit . It better not be too full because it will squish when you close the door, it will be pressing in there and then you won't be able to see the back of the car, which I'm not comfortable with, so if I have a big suitcase I put it in the front something else with the key is that as you can see there is only one button to close and open the car and that is strange, I have never seen that in any other car there is normally one for a lock and another for unlocking, I don't see anything on this side, that It's just a plate, not a button, and the other strange thing is that the only button in the entire cabin that controls the locks is here and once again it locks and unlocks with the same button. luckily it turns on when you lock it unfortunately mine is a little broken right now.
I'm going to see if I can fix it myself and if not I guess I'll have to take it to the dealer but when it works it turns on. when it's locked and then you press it again to unlock it, but it's a little weird because I always have to check to make sure it's locked because I'm paranoid, if you're an idiot like me, you can catch your finger in the door. while you're closing it and the reason I say you have to be stupid is picking me out is because I was so worried about getting the car dirty that when I was closing the door I was holding it here and closing it and I didn't.
I wanted to get I didn't want to have any stains here so I was closing it so it wouldn't catch here and my pinky got stuck there and those are the results two weeks later, it's not pretty. I had to go to the emergency room because it was bleeding so much that I didn't realize how easy it is to do an oil change in this car and that's a little embarrassing because I spent over $200 on my first oil change and then I saw a video of someone doing it themselves and there actually wasn't that hard and I thought I could have saved some money there so it was legitimately embarrassing and I think I could do my own oil changes from now on so let's talk manual transmission, the gear ratios on this car are pretty high and you're tall enough that you have to take your foot off the accelerator a little more than I'm normally used to in order to accelerate on the upshifts, so that's what Which I always end up doing every time I come back.
In this car, after not driving it for a few days, I always end up having too many revs when I'm shifting, it takes a second to get used to it and it's a bit embarrassing when you have someone in the passenger seat and it's quite choppy when you're shifting because That's supposed to be the easy part, but yeah, it just takes a little getting used to because I'm used to a little bit shorter gears or a little bit closer relationships where it's not necessary. drop the revs so much on the upshift everything we're talking about shifting it's actually a bit of a shame that you still haven't mastered heel toe in this car.
I think the problem is that my feet are a little small to begin with. If they only wore a size eight and a half and then there's a bump here where the level of the distance from my foot to the pedal is a little bit shorter here than it is here and I think the idea is that you're holding back. hard while you're on the track and then you can heel like that, but I usually don't have to brake that hard since I'm usually just driving, so if I want to heel, I end up going like this and then slipping a little or just losing the gas completely, but I suppose if I were on a track it would be useful to be able to brake hard and then turn like that for heel-toe, but I haven't done that.
I've been on the track yet so we'll have to see, for a long time I just ignored this TP button. I didn't know what it meant, but I didn't really care and finally someone asked me about it and I said like you. I know what I actually don't know so once again I looked up the user manual and apparently this means traffic programming and I guess in places like Germany or England you might have a traffic program that is specifically for traffic. type of frequency on the radio that is just for traffic, so this is a button that you press to get to that station in this car, just mute the radio.
The 2007 Porsche Cayman is in those awkward middle years when there were no more tape players. in cars, but the audio and USB jacks hadn't been phased in yet, so what happens is that this car, being a 2007 model, doesn't have any way to directly plug your music into the stereo, so I end up having than buy this charger for fifty dollars. radio adapter bar and it just plays on a frequency that you then have to tune in - on the radio and I have it preset to listen to music or podcasts or whatever you want - another embarrassing thing about this is that it does it slowly but surely drained the battery, so i left it plugged in for two weeks while i was on vacation and when i came back the car was dead so you just have to make sure you unplug it before you leave because it will supply power to it until it dies, another thing maybe it's just a quirk, maybe not necessarily embarrassing, but it is strange that there is no direct tuning function, so if you know you want to go to a specific channel then there is no tuning button, this will simply go to the next frequency that has a strong signal or whatever you press and it will look for a stronger signal but it's very difficult to tune directly to a certain station and I've looked at the user guide and the manual and stuff to try to figure out if there's a way and I can't find it and I've talked to people who had Porsches and they don't either.
They were able to show me, so let me know in the comments if you know how to directly tune a radio. One thing I have nothing to be ashamed of that happens on some of the newer Porsches is a lot of blank buttons. Now that I've seen other 911s and especially the Panamera, there is only one row of buttons where you can put options, but if you don't specify all the options, you will have all these blank spaces where the buttons should be. I think Porsche did a good job of designing this head unit or whatever you want to call it without any blank buttons.
One last thing. What I didn't notice about my particular Porsche is that apparently the right rear tire has a slight curve somewhere that I don't know exactly where it is, but if you go over 70 miles per hour on the highway, then you feel it a little bit. of vibration and also if you leave the car stationary long enough this tire deflates slowly, just like when I went on vacation for two weeks this tire went from 30 psi to 19 or 20 psi without any temperature change so I have To always make sure it's full, it's not dangerous. I have spoken to the dealer about it.
They say everything will be fine but eventually I will have to replace this tire because it has a slight camber and it is Confusing the TPMS sensor with the TPMS sensor for example right now it says I am -7 below recommended but in reality it is only I have minus one when I do a real tire pressure test so yeah it's a little embarrassing but no big deal thanks for looking. guys and see you next time subscribe
