Elon Musk's SpaceX rocket EXPLODES just minutes after taking off during historical flightApr 21, 2023
sounds it looks like this
rocketis about to lift off so let's pause right there and watch this last 30 second countdown we can hear the cheering now i'm going to be quiet and we're going to enjoy this launch ES come into position weird head we are accelerating down and up going through the period of Maximum Downforce so speed is increasing depth of atmosphere is decreasing decreasing stress on the vehicle to call the side now we continue to see the first stage as we head abroad seconds into the
flightour next major activity on the first stage the houston tracking station now acquiring the vehicle separates we fire up six engines in the staggered sequence and if all goes well those six engines will burn out for almost six and a half
minutesof onboard view from commercial and there are views of the Raptor engines in the second stage as we prepare for stage separation after stage separation the first stage will flip over and begin a rollback maneuver to land on the Gulf and continue flying two
minutesand 40 seconds. ready for main engine cutoff starting turn for staging you are watching the GB news we are witnessing the largest Rockets ever built take off from Boca Chica Texas and take to the sky now they are attempting something called staging i am joined by planetary scientist Andrew Lound and Andy, what is staging?
This is where the first stage shuts down its engines and slips away. It's an unusual procedure that they're doing for this one. Something other
rockets don't do. Actually, the rocket. actually in this particular case it flips around to get into the right position that you want because it has phenomenal controls and what it will do is it will drop the first stage which is the main booster and it will fall down and the second stage will fire up its engines that should fire up and then take them into their main cruise phase, so that's what we're trying to look at right now.

justlooking at the um is that the synchronization of the systems here. I wonder. if all went well oh we've got this big flash here right now it looks like this is the booster coming back to earth huh we're assuming the starship upper stage is still in space fuzzy picture here we're trying our best to see exactly what's going on people are still cheering however the venue is a good sign they applied it correctly andy what do we think has been going on with this booster? There seemed to be some heat. burning up around it as it was coming back to earth, yeah that's what happens because what you have is you still have some flowing material and it tends to flow back when it starts to fall and that's perfectly normal.
You see that a lot with reinforcements when they split up and start to drop again so there's nothing unusual with that um you always always get a little you always have that with everything else because of course it's losing its momentum and starts to go backwards. down and then the um so that's absolutely normal you light it at the stage separations and of course when the stage separates then you have the big second stage flare and that causes a big flare in the sky itself which is which is quite remarkable
