Elon Musk to replace Twitter's bird logo with an 'X' - BBC NewsJul 24, 2023
so Twitter's iconic Blue
birdcould be about to disappear. Owner Elon Musk has said that he will be
replaced with a
logorepresenting the letter X, which is the name he wants to use for the so-called everything app he is trying to develop. Twitter fundamentals The rebrand comes when he recently admitted that advertising revenue on the platform was half of what it was before he bought it, let's not forget that Musk paid $44 billion for Twitter when he bought it last October. Justin Eckhart Stewart, founder of the regional investment platform, and Justin abandoning the
logo, perhaps also abandoning the Twitter name and its brand.
He's starting to feel like he mostly just wanted Twitter for his user base. What are his thoughts? Well, I have to say that he is creating some. significant damage because you think about what Twitter is, it's a relatively limited operation, it's communications compared to, say, some of the competitors that we can see in India and China, who have expanded it to provide more services, so that's one of their problems. actually wants to take it to a broader area, but of course the brand itself has a fairly loyal base, but an aging base of older people like me, while the younger generations have gone to other areas, so that Twitter really seems a bit dated, but you have to be careful, okay, change the brand and then change the services, but if you have a selection of older people who quite like it, that means you're starting from scratch. and damaging the original value and of course these days there are more competitors showing up and of course just a few weeks ago we launched threads, uh, with a record number of people signing up for that, but would it take some time ? people like me to join that good Heaven, I mean, I have to try to learn how to do something else and that's probably pretty unlikely, God forbid, I mean, what we saw in the threads was uh meta, its owner uses Instagram , one of their most important products right now as a launching pad, it just took all the followers that you had on Instagram, the people that you followed, transposed into threads.
Elon Musk seems to be trying to throw the baby out with the bathwater. um, he wants it to become this, so he wanted to become this. It's a sort of everything app, a bit like China's WeChat, making payments easier and whatnot, but I wonder what evidence there is that they're actually doing anything to push it in that direction, well, nothing so far that we can see, of course, maybe it is developing. things behind this or maybe you're going to buy something else, but having spent, as you said, 44 billion pounds, uh dollars, more like I mean, that's enormously expensive for that business that's not earning money and of course the advertising is probably already cut in half and if not more it has limited things it can do so yes you could try to develop it but like you said the stuff could like you said just link to other existing services, the e-card is actually linked to, for example, a Tesla or a rocket or something like that. like that it doesn't make any sense, so you have a problem here, you have a brand that is quite strong but it seems weaker.
You need to develop another brand and actually try to make it interesting and sexy, and you know, attractive to people. and in this market that's going to be really difficult, yes, he's a busy man, obviously with all those other companies like Tesla and SpaceX, he's installed a new CEO at Twitter, although he feels like he's still driving. seats um I wonder what has to happen before we decide if it succeeded or failed. I have the impression of this, you know, but actually you look back and look at what happened last year, he didn't really want to buy this too.
He really wanted to be involved in it, but he ended up having to buy it because he didn't understand the rules of the stock market as to what you can do in terms of adjusting the price or influencing it, so I think he probably regrets what he's done. fact what you have to demonstrate now is that there is a credible plan for the development of the business so that it is profitable but above all in this particular sector attractive that people want to participate in it and what are we going to be able to do in this new X that we couldn't do anywhere else and why that's going to be something, actually, that's going to be attractive, so x and y you're probably not going to Z, which will be zero, okay, Justin or Card Stewart, they'll have to leave it.
Thank you very much for joining us. We're hearing some reports that a new logo could appear very soon, but we'll wait and see if that happens.
