Elon Musk (Full Interview) | Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO)
May 02, 2023there should be some regulatory body that oversees what companies are doing so they don't cut corners and potentially do something very dangerous don't do anything, walk me through a scenario in the next two five ten years if nothing is done because we're too good at not doing nothing, especially when it comes to profit and this is a huge profit driver now for companies that will want to compete with each other. I mean, there are people like Ray Kurzweil who don't think it's a problem at all, actually Ray Kurzweil's prediction for artificial superintelligence is 2029. He's not far wrong, but he doesn't think it's a problem, whereas people like you and Bill Gates and Stephen Hawking thought it's a problem yes it depends if some people want to live forever or for a much longer period of
time
and see AI as the only way or digital super intelligence is the only thing that he can figure out how to make them live forever I think Kurzweil is in that category so he'd rather have an artificial general intelligence than not, uh, because he can calculate longevity so are you optimistic? love well you can be half happy i guess i mean this i mean there are two things i think if befull
be very happy if you are happy in love and love your job then then you will be i think completely happy if you lack either of those two if you have one of those two things be half happy you know sort of I feel like the theme in a lot of your work that connects all these different things is to connect like you want to connect things you know you want to connect in the hyperloop and you want to connect this to Mars and even connect four people in that game what, uh Connect four you know this is a comedy you know it's hard for you because when you bought twitter you? you go back to doing what you did when you took over when you started Tesla you lived in the factory right I feel like that's your pattern you get into this and then you have to live in the factory to make it work if you went back in you moved to Texas and then you came back to san francisco because of twitter i was living in the twitter library for a while um yeah but i think things are reasonably stabilized right now. only on the fast track to bankruptcy after that position so i had to take drastic action there was no other choice just saying its hard for a woman yeah to like it when the guy lives in the factory yeah , that could be that. could be a stumbling block, but yeah, but overall, you know, my concern with Twitter was that it's kind of like digital Town Square and it's important that there's bothreal
ity and perception of trust for a wide variety of viewpoints, um and uh, there was a lot of censorship, um and we've uncovered a lot of that with uh, the Twitter archives, including a lot of government-driven censorship, which you know is, I mean, it looks like that it has to be a constitutional violation of what was going on there but um regular and i can since i have a twitter user i was able to detect that something is not right here um and that'sreal
ly why i did that position no it was because he thought this was an easy way to make money or something he was a man this is being mayor of twitter town tweettown or whatever it's definitely like there's a lot of arrows pointing at you kind of flying at you of course but you know but you seem to handle that ok i hope you do because yeah look i mean geniuses are going to be a little wacky sometime
s but your heart is always in the right place you were trying to fix this world and look I Could talk to you forever We can't today I would love to get high with you I know a great place I can't tell you how much I appreciate you I know you have a lot of options and places you can go thanks Elon Musk ladies and gentlemen it's ok I'll see you soon.If you have any copyright issue, please Contact
