E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Reunion Panel – Steel City Con June 2021
Jul 17, 2023real and amazing job, thank you and Carl Miller was the dog trainer, those dogs were trained within an inch of their lives, the closest thing I've ever had. to be afraid was the scene where the guy in the dog suit humps his leg true story I'm sorry I was there I swear to God I was there oh my God there are no secrets in this room it's just between us 300, we just keep that. Right here and on the Internet, it's actually a fabulous scene where we all dance with the dog in a kick line at my table.
I thought it was funny when the dog had to like the way he was cut, he attacked me and I'm on the ground. Well, in order to have a dog on me, they had to drug him. Yes, there was a vet there taking care of him, but they didn't get him all the way out, so they put 130 pounds of dead dog on top. of me and I'm like in la la land getting ready for the scene and I hear the dog, the dog's face is here and the dog goes and I was looking at the dog and they said Louis, he's outside, yeah, yeah, yeah, don .
Don't worry and then Lewis, our director, says can you lift it up and down? Like you're fighting him, so I'm putting pressure on this 120 pound dog, but no one got bit. There was a dog that passed by during filming. nothing to do with the footage that the trainer actually slept in the barn with the dogs, I mean, they were much better taken care of than I was. I always wondered where that movie was filmed in the Carmel area of Mendocino in Northern California, okay I don't know. If you can see me through the pillar here, but we have a question for you back here.
Hello, big fan of E.T. I found a book, it was a sequel to the first one. E.T in the green planet book was that one. floated around as a possible sequel to you guys, there was discussion about a sequel to e.t, I mean there were always talks but it was never anything that came to fruition and I think the book was, you know, part of the marketing plan for a universal study. Just so you know, keep moving forward, it didn't work, but it didn't work. Okay, let's get one or two more and the caller, what do you think?
Yes, back there, I'm on my way and by the way, you all will be on my way. Go back to your tables to sign after that, sure, okay, so keep that in mind, if you're too shy to ask a question, visit them at their table when we're done here, okay, here we go, this question is for d too d just wondering how it's possible that you're the youngest person on the
panel
, we're wondering too, come with me little one, thank you darling, I love you for that, you have no idea, here we go, I've got some. hard candy in my bag, I think she's one of those people who sleep like doctors and like to take our blood or something to keep us young.Yes, okay, this gentleman has a question. Yeah, I want to know, is there a reason why certain movies like E.t. you never see them? then some movies you watch all the time, is that right? or something like that, you know again, is there a reason why you never see them repeated on TV very often, but some movies are repeated all the time? reason why I would, they want it all the time, well, they play it for thanksgiving and, yes, they really are seasonal in the summer, but they didn't, they didn't do it at first, they didn't do it at first, they didn't they did throughout the I think in the '80s they re-released it three times in theaters and they released it again in the '90s.
You know, anyone who wants to study marketing should study e.t marketing and how long they've kept it alive and how much. I've infused it with new ideas to keep the audience interested, but guys, it's our Wizard of Oz, you know? And when they make another Wizard of Oz, people want to watch it again and again, it's a movie that reminds us what's important. which is love and friendship and peace and working together and isn't that necessary now? Okay, we have two more questions here, we'll wrap things up here. What do you think about the infamous et video game on the Atari 2600?
I played it and I got stuck in that hole that you couldn't get out of and I quit. Stop playing. You know, I was disappointed, to say the least. I guess none of you got royalties for that. Come on, I'm Elliot, come on, I'm the guy. There was a Nintendo DS game based on the Green Planet Book that came out, you know, around 2002, which was slightly better. You know, it was like a mobile video game. so it wasn't quite it wasn't exactly the train wreck that the original was well buried everyone somewhere in the desert we'll let this young lady here have the last question okay my question is for all of you because I'm a big fan of e.t, I love it e.t um, it was hard for all of you to like all the scenes and stuff because I used to act like a little kid and have relaxing classes, I just want to know how hard it was for you to do all the scenes and, as you know refer to working with the animatronic puppet or just doing all the things, like how they have to act and stuff, it was difficult, when was it?
Do you ever forget your lines and what did Spielberg do, yeah, I mean, it was hard, it was a lot of work, a lot of acting work I guess, but you know that's what we do and you also know we had a great atmosphere because we had the best people. Around us, we had great actors, we had a great crew and you know when you work on a movie, everyone lifts everyone else up, so you're working to do your best work and it doesn't really matter what. The movie is like that, that's what I meant when we were saying before, like there was a question about: you know?
Did you have any idea it was going to be successful? That's the last thing on your mind. You know you're worried. about the daily work and doing the best you can in the scene you're doing that day and after all, little kids do it every day, little kids play pretend every day, that's all we do, we are playing. Pretend we just have to learn lines to do it, so what better than to act well and play well, play well and in that sense it was a pleasure thank you all, thank you all who are standing, the
