Dollar Tree Valentine's DIY 2020 | Valentine DIYs | Budget Friendly DIY's
Feb 27, 2020Hello friends and DIY friends, today is my mega Valentine's Day video, so prepare your scissors and let's start crafting. Let's use these supplies. Could they die for those buttons? They are so cute they had them at Dollar Tree. Of these supplies, except for the felt, obviously because they don't sell felt there yet, they all come from the Dollar Tree, so the best thing I found out about these signs is that when you remove one of the ends of the ball, they have these pegs. in their craft section that they fit perfectly inside, so I went ahead and stuck it in on one side with a little hot glue, took some pliers, cut it to size and then put on a little more hot glue to lengthen the rod.
Now I'm going to be able to turn this into a really lovely advent calendar for Valentine's Day, the size I'm going to cut with my felt is 17 by 25 inches in case you're wondering what would fit on that bar and then I took one and one. half an inch of this strip of tan felt and I'm just going to cut out some scallops. I am free to deliver this. I didn't do a perfect job with them, not all scallops are perfect, so I'm going to go ahead and take some ribbon and Cut it to size because I want that to be where the Advent calendar rod hangs.

Now comes a really fun part that you will add to those scallops by putting a bead of glue along the edge of that blank. fabric now, I forgot to mention, you're going to cut two of those because you want to have a back and a front, so once you have all the scallop pieces on and hot glued together, then you're going to take that second piece of that felt white 17 by 25 and then you'll just hot glue it all the way around and down into place. Make sure you don't press too hard because the hot glue can bleed through the felt.
I'd like to touch it lightly now let's grab some of your lace that they have in the floral section at the Dollar Tree and I love this. I use it in many projects. I think it's very nice. That's what the container contains. It looks like or the spool looks like you can buy it once I've finished all the edging, I went back up to the top where I'm now going to insert the bar into my little slats or slats or whatever you guys call them and I'm so sorry guys , I couldn't zoom this out too much because you can't see that I'm gluing the little balls to the end of the bar, sorry, but I removed the thread and then I'll reuse it to create little loops on the back.
Now you can keep it tied, but I felt like I was tilting the bar a bit, so I decided to make these two little loops. on opposite ends and this looks really cool. Next, we're going to create a heart template with wrapping paper. I already said this before. I love using wrapping paper because there is a grid line on the back that you will want. your heart should be wide and plump and that's because you're going to turn them into little pockets. Here's some advice. If you're using any patterned fabric, make sure you cut enough to have a back and a front so it looks really finished and also stiffens the fabric a little more so it's the same thickness as felt.
The colors I chose were a soft pink, a tan topi color, and that cute gray and white buffalo check Now that you're gluing your hearts, remember to only glue the sides and then go up the side of the heart a little bit like I'm doing here, but don't glue the center part because you will turn them into pockets in just a few minutes so you can see here I can put my hand inside and once you have 14 hearts there is enough room in this size to create 15 so in the last one I took these darling little buttons and I created a little heart pattern below now the next interesting thing is that the Dollar Tree has puffy paint now.
I don't know if you all know this, but I was very excited. Swollen pain can be a love-hate relationship for some people, so here's how. I make my own, I always have a small piece of cloth to feel the consistency and thickness of the bottle and then I always tap it really hard to try to get the air bubbles away from the nozzle when I'm working. You'll even see me shaking it, but be careful because sometimes when you shake it, sometimes depending on the company that makes them, the paint can come off, so what I just did was probably a bad example, but when you shake it. doing your numbers or letters, take your time, don't rush, look at how I was doing my five and I didn't feel like I was going in the right direction so I stopped and went from the bottom up and connected.
I really just take my time and try to flow with the painting and as you see here, I just did my oh part of the nine or the circular part of the nine and then I went in and hit it again to get the leg down and here's the finish. Watch you for our next project, we're going to grab these cute stickers from the Dollar Tree and a charger that I spray painted white. I haven't seen anyone use these succulent stickers yet and I was so excited when I realized that this was a giant heart and I knew right away that I wanted to try to make something like this for all of you, so take your heart and it becomes a little complicated around that beveled edge.
They will push it down and massage it slowly. into place and it should lay flat now you can stop there which is beautiful to display in your home or you can go one step further which is what I'm going to do. I'm taking some white and cream paint and just nice of you. I know I'm going to distress it a little bit right in the middle because I'm going to make something really cool for our house to personalize this plate and this could be a really nice gift to give someone if you're looking for a unique gift again.
Then I'll grab the big letter stickers they have there. Now that we have a long name, I wanted everyone to see that you can make a long name with many letters and they're just going to go with it. white paint once it's dry you'll take the smaller stickers and spell out and family so I think it would be really cute on someone's front porch to be able to display their family's name and I love the heart shape with the succulents . I think it's perfect for Valentine's Day and spring. You can leave this for quite a while in your entryway and really get a home decor item that has a long lifespan. versus I know some people find it hard because Valentine's Day is a very quick holiday and it comes right after Christmas, but this one, like I said, can last until spring, which would be really nice almost even until summer, actually because I think of succulents during the summer as Okay, once it's all done and the stickers are in place, use a Mod Podge to seal everything.
I wanted to take a second to say how grateful I am for a couple of emails I received back in January, you know I really love saying home girls for where I grew up. I grew up in a tough area of Los Angeles and calling someone a stay-at-home girl means you're friends, you're close, you support each other, and I'm a stay-at-home mom, so I felt like I'm the girl. from home, that is, like Heidi from start to finish, but a couple of men approached me and were bothered by the phrase home girl and I want to make something very clear here on my channel.
I value craftsman men and I feel like it's very important to be able to say that just because I have family members who are craftsmen and my son Calvin is a craftsman, he loves to sew, he loves to draw, he's very artistic, so I just wanted to say from Now, when make my craft videos, I will say hello friends of crafts, and so that men don't feel left out, because you shouldn't be left out. I honor you as artisans, this free printable I made. I'm providing some paint below linked in the description box, this is the pink eraser, we're going to use some foam cord, this canvas, and an Exacto knife, so you're going to go ahead and start by tearing off the fabric. of your canvas frame and then you will take the printable and cut it to the size you need for your frame.
Now I'm making this printable so you don't have to worry about trying to find paper at your craft stores, you can go ahead and print it if you have a printer that can make this happen, so go ahead and cut it out and then glue it to a piece of foam board using an Exacto knife. now our T's who sent me this and at the end of the month I'll do a giveaway with this extra, they sent me one and one for my viewers so stay tuned for the giveaway at the end of the month. I'm excited to share it, go ahead and grab your exact knife and pop out the foam core with that printable and then you're just going to glue the frame right on top of your printable now we're going to use the other part. from the printable and we'll just take it and turn it around.
We are going to color the back of the heart to create a sketch that will be returned to when we go over the heart with a pencil. In the telephone cable we are doing it because we want to have a heart with a 3D appearance. If you're not lucky enough to be able to find some wooden hearts at your Dollar Tree store, you may end up picking up some foam core and using that. printable and cut out your own heart, so once you've cut out the whole heart, I'm going to go ahead and use that pink color that I showed earlier and paint it once to make sure you have the sides. and has a nice coat of pink paint.
While it's drying you'll go ahead and take a small piece of your foam core and place it right in the center of your frame, this will help the core rise. and give it a nice 3D effect and then just hot glue it onto your frame. Now you can stop here, which looks really nice, or you can go one step further, which is what I've decided to do. I'm going to move on. and take some white paint and lightly paint around the frame to give it more of a spring feel and once I have all that, I'm not going to do the inside where the paper is going to touch, but just around the outside after that and it's dry.
I'm going to go ahead and grab some pretty lace ribbon that you can get from the Dollar Tree and just glue it on. We will be using these supplies from the Dollar Tree and these hearts came from Hobby. Lobby I used a 40% off coupon on them and I think they are so cute that many of them are in a package. I'll also use ribbons and these flowers that are new, these flowers just came out this week at the Dollar. Tree, so hurry before they are all gone. You will start by taking some twine and cutting a not very long piece.
I would probably say maybe start with about 8 inches so you have room to play. with it and then you're going to put some hot glue and sandwich that string right between two hearts. You'll do that for the two you see sitting and then figure out the length you want. hearts must be inside your crown. I think this is so cute and whimsical for this Valentine's Day season and because it's so color neutral, you could actually keep it like this all year round in your home now that you've figured it out. your length I like to wear a longer one and a shorter one again, it looks cute and whimsical.
I'm going to wrap that thread around the wreath making sure it has a nice clean finish once you have the first one in place and I like it. First I start with the length just to make sure the length looks good, then I move on to the second one. and I'm going to do the exact same process, wrap it up and have a nice clean finish, now I'm going to take some white. ribbon satin ribbon is actually cream or ivory, better yet to say it and then I just won't do a simple knot like I do on a lot of my projects, but on this one I wanted to have a clean finish on the top so I could hang it on something.
I'm just going to take some ribbon, wrap it around first, create a nice bow on top and then I'm going to take this. I'm going to put some hot glue on it, fold it and then I'm going to stick it to the ribbon that's already on the wreath wrapped around it. This will have a nice finish on your project so when you hang it on a door or how I style it at the end, it will look so pretty, now you're going to go ahead and take your flowers and I like to cut them up nicely instead of just grouping them in their real wires and then another tip is don't be afraid to cut the flowers so I'm going to break them down.
Space them apart because I want to use this white one, but it's a little bulky for this size of this wreath, plus these leaves, they look like lamb's ears, which is my favorite, so I'm going to go ahead and just cut them all out and then glue them onto the wreath as I see fit. I think it looks pretty and I'm going to go for a wildflower style because it really matches the look of this wooden wreath that I like, I said, bought at Dollar. Tree, in total I think I spent about 450 on this project and the truth is that you can get quite a few projects with these supplies because I am using very few flowers and wreaths that you would just have to buy. more than one if you want to redo the project, but basically you're going to glue all the flowers and leaves as you see fit and as you place everything you'll move on to the current one. flowers, I like to glue them at the end and then once you have the two purple ones in place, I feelthat because they are the most substantial part of the wreath I wanted to fill it with white instead of doing the white first and then putting the purple in, so I put the purple in first and now I'm filling it with all the white flowers and I'm just playing with it and you know how It's, as a craftsman, you're working with it until you feel like it looks good, then you do it the way you think it looks best for your project and then you're going to tie a bow and place it on top for the next project.
It's a super simple project. I picked up this little block house from Michael's
dollar
section. They actually have adollar
section too and they have a lot of wood crafts inside so I picked this up there, this little heart was from a big package that I have at Hobby Lobby and you can basically also buy pieces at any craft store and then just I'll buy some cream paint, but you can paint this any color you want. You can choose a soft pink and a white heart. You can make a little red house with a white or pink heart. There are so many options for Valentine's Day and the colors you choose once you've painted your house, you'll wrap them up. some twine around the bottom to add that farmhouse look and then assemble glue onto your little heart. This is a great starter project for someone who wants to try being crafty and isn't quite sure what their style is yet. My first look. Josh and Maine come with fewer projects. They were selling them for about $15, they're not on sale and I know we can make them for pennies, super cheap, super affordable and the look is identical so you're going to go ahead and grab something black. foam core board, I cut it to the right size.
I made a 5 by 7 size and then for the corners I just matched them up on my cutting mat and then from corner to corner on the box I cut a nice line on both top corners of my label. then to create the hole for your rope you're going to take the ruler circle that you saw there and you're just going to cut around it after you've traced it out and once you've cut everything out you're going to go ahead and paint it now I'm going for that look of slate and the way I do it with paint is I mix cream with black, it has more of a slate gray color than using black and white.
I feel like it looks a little more washed out. Once the paint is completely dry, I will take my pencil and draw the number for our family members, so I will make the number 5. I thought it would be really cute to use all year round. I display it somewhere in my house on a shelf on a table, but I love the way it looks and this is what friends, I know a lot of people have crickets or silhouettes, but there are a lot of people who still don't have them. I have them in my house and I'm very grateful to have them and I feel very blessed to have them, but I want everyone to see that if you don't have a super fancy cutting machine that uses paint and a fine tip brush, that's all you need because you can get the same look and you know maybe at first you feel like painting on my hand is a little bit tricky, but the more you practice, the more you keep painting and trying, the better and better. you're going to get it and I just keep playing with it until I get the look I want and the other tip is when you paint white on black sometimes the black can bleed through a little bit so I'm doing I like it when it has that nice crisp white look on the gray board and then at the end and oh, I'm just taking my time because there are smaller ones. letters and then the little dot.
I'm going to rotate my brush and touch a little spot with the end of my brush, so again don't feel intimidated by having to go out and buy machines to be able to create this look. you can hand paint them and save even more money and this really is a super inexpensive project and makes such a cute impact on your decorative shelves. Now I'm going to take some brown paint and I'm just going to touch up a couple of corners here and there to give it that rustic look, like it's been weathered by the salt air and then to go with that coastal farmhouse look that I love and I know which is also the style and style of Yami and his channel.
To take some of this nautical rope that I picked up from the Dollar Tree, I slipped it out and coiled it and then twisted it and tied a knot at the top and then continued with that nice worn beach feel. I'm going to fray the ends of the rope. This rope came from the Dollar Tree, as well as the other supplies I will be using in this video, but I love this rope because there are three ropes intertwined. and when you unscrew it it triples the value of this string, so it's a really cool string, you can use it really thick or you can thin it out.
Now I decided to make one more version of these labels just to show everyone that they have a lot. potential I think they are very nice to place in your house. I'm going to grab some more white paint and look, I'm not doing any pencil sketches. I'm just handing this out freely and this just came over time. of me practicing and practicing and just enjoying painting letters and numbers by hand, so I'm going to take my time and write the word welcome and again feel free to write it in pencil first and then paint it. A fun tip is to take the greenery that you can get from the dollar
tree
and glue the ends together and that's how I create a mini dollartree
vine right now there are spring flowers that are just putting out their flower bundles they have these leaves on they have all the colors pink, blue, white, yellow and these leaves are so cute and when you glue their tips you can create a vine, so I'm gluing them together to create a little wreath that I'm going to add on a lace bow. this lace is also from the Dollar Tree and then I'm going to add another one of those ropes to give it that nautical feel but have that farmhouse style that I think a lot of us love and then I'm going to get distressed. once again with that brown paint to give it that rustic, beachy, salty look, if you haven't already, like this video and click the subscribe button if you're new because this February I'm going to do it. lots of new spring DIYs and it will be great.I can't wait to share everything I have in store for you. So many new ideas and I'm so excited to share them all. We will use these supplies again from the Dollar. Tree and you will start by removing this arrow. We will reuse it and use it, so be sure to take good care of it when you take it down. It is easy to break this heart frame when you try to remove it. So take your time, it should come out very easy once you've removed it, then you'll start to unwrap this red tinsel garland on it, folks, I was actually surprised at how difficult this garland was that it was sitting on. there for a while, whoever put this up did a fantastic job wrapping it so it never comes off, don't let that stop you from making this crap, it's a really fun craft to do, but you should know that these things are wrapped up here very, Alright, if you are new to my channel, click the subscribe button.
I would love for you to join me here on my channel. I have new craft videos every Monday and Friday and I do cleaning videos on Wednesdays once you have them all. of the garland, then you will take the rope you got from the Dollar Tree. I love this rope, but let me tell you, I feel like sometimes it's too bulky for projects and you can get triple the value, so I like it. take the rope and I like to cut it into a piece that allows me to work with it to unwrap it if you have it too long it will be a struggle because trying to get into a lighted area with each other can be a little tricky so once you have everything put together and it's all separated into three individual ropes, you'll be able to have enough to do this project, so I used probably about one and a half of these ropes, so keep them in Keep in mind that when you pick up your supplies, what you're going to do is to take some hot glue, take the string and pass it through the tip of the arrow you want first. to make sure I covered that part because it's a little hard to wrap the rope around the end when it's really small and tight like that, so I decided to go around the end and then go back around the rope. and starting to wrap it around the arrowhead as you go around the arrowhead, make sure you stay close to the rope so you don't let the shine peek through.
If you want it to look more elegant, that's what I'm going to do. this one and then when you get to the end of one of your ropes, you're going to let it finish nice by cutting it and then pushing it down and then you're going to move on to the next piece of rope, you're going to keep layering it and wrapping it layering and wrapping it now. I'm going to zoom in closer so you can see that when you get to this tricky part here you're just going to continue to hold the rope. The strings touch each other so you don't see the shine, but when you get to the end, slow down and put some hot glue on the end of the side parts of the arrow and you'll keep pinching and sandwiching them and yes, I'm burning fingers and yes, I'm going to get some of those hot glue finger protectors.
Everyone keeps asking me if I have them and I really want to get some so I'll definitely be picking them up very soon because my friends are burning their fingers. with hot glue it's just not fun and then once you get past that tricky part, it's very easy in the middle, you're just going to keep wrapping it, wrapping it, wrapping it all the way to the top, adding hot glue. I don't use hot glue. each wrap, but I like to make sure that as I'm putting it on I put a little bit of glue here and there and then I'll wrap it for a while and put a little bit of glue on it and that's just so it's nice and tight and you don't have any weird gaps between them where you can see the glitter now at the end where the feathers would be we're going to take this burlap ribbon that they have from the Dollar Tree and we're just going to layer it on the group that I made, I thought about five layers because I really wanted it to be covered and have that stuffed with burlap and then you're going to take your scissors and keep working cutting out all those little areas. cut cut cut cut cut and then if you have any spots that you can see where the glitter is showing, I'm just going to take a little bit of hot glue, take a little bit more burlap, lay it down and cut it out and you're just going to keep doing that until you cover the whole thing. the glitter and everything is nice and covered and then I'm going to turn it around so that if you decide to hang this project, let's say on a mirror in your hallway, that could be really nice to display.
If you plan to have it on your front door, you don't necessarily need to cover the back, but I personally really like finishing projects. I like the backs to look finished and finished, and then you're just going to do it. Same thing add a bunch of these burlap ribbon strips and then you're just going to cut them off so it's nice and clean and finish now when you get to the ends do the same thing we did at Arrowhead. where you're putting the glue on the sides and you're just pinching it to hide the ends so you don't see a weird shine appearing on the seams or on the sides you don't want that to make it look that way but once you have everything solved and everything is nice and covered, you're going to take some string and finish that arrow, wrap it and glue it in place.
Let's move on to the heart and this one was really fun because you can make it as thick or as small as you want. I took my rope and I'm gluing it to the top first just to make sure it's there really nice and then you're going to start wrapping it around. This is a great project to do while watching a movie and relaxing. I think the total time it took me to finish this. It was probably like 10 minutes and it's just because I wanted to make sure that while I was wrapping it I was doing a good job and it looked really nice and finished, go ahead and add your arrow first and you'll see I have some greenery in there but it was just because I was testing it out. so that all of you would know which one to put first.
I think it's best to put the arrow in first and you'll take some of that string and you'll use it to help hold it, not just hot glue it to camouflage a piece of string by wrapping it and then gluing it all in place and then you'll take some of your flowers and I'll just cut them out like I showed you before with our first craft and you'll place them there how you would like them to be now. I went very neutral on this because again it's for that farmhouse style that's so popular right now. I personally like that too and you will have the flowers coming out of the side where the feather on your arrow would be and when it comes to your ribbon you can go as big and beautiful as you want or simple like I'm doing here with this lace ribbon now, I'm very excited about this project because this is a brand new product at Dollar Tree, run right to your dollar trees and pick them up, but don't buy them all, so I can pick them up for you anyway, they're super cool, these are these spheres that They are made of metal wire and if you have been shopping there for a while you will know that they are the same wires that they use for their wreath rings so what I'm going to do to start is I'm going to cut this sign out now it's just because I don't I wanted to run to the store and buy another one because inThey actually sell these smaller ones, but I just need a base for my topiary, so I'm going to cut this one. down and then I'll reattach one of the sides so I can get the right size for my topiary base again.
They sell these smaller signs and I was being lazy and didn't want to drive to the store, plus they didn't want to spend another dollar. I already had this one and they knew I could cut it down to size, so if you have one on hand that's already smaller then you'll be all set, but once I have it all figured out and cut to size, I'll then grab some e6000 and a some hot glue to make sure it stays in place while the e6000 dries and then I'm going to take this candle holder and hot glue it on. at a price of 6000 for one of these plastic pots that they have at Dollar Tree again, all of these supplies are from Dollar Tree and this is super affordable.
I spent nine dollars to make these things versus a crazy $1.99, so once I have my base and everything ready, I'm going to take a piece of foam core and here you can see it's a little bit smaller than the base and I want to be able to make sure the top of the pot and the glass stick well to the bottom, but if I try to apply East 6000 or hot glue to the foam core piece, it will eventually come off and break, so what I decided to do was trace the base of the chandelier and glass onto the foam core I cut out.
I took it out and then hot glued it on and then took some e6000 and put it on the base which is a thicker, harder surface to be able to hold it on compared to the foam core, I added a bit more hot glue around it and then I inserted the glass. stem at the base this will allow it to really dry and adhere well now these are the flower stems that you have now these are the ones that I also use to make that vine before on the label they are called wildflowers and I love them, this other flower that I'm arguing here it was actually around fall.
I think they are carrots all year round. I've seen it for a long time, but I'm going to remove those little green ones that you just saw me holding there. Now, to make sure your spear stays in place, you'll open it to your liking and then take the hot glue and simply glue it into place. Now I want to create it to look dry. vines over time, like you would see in a normal topiary, off the stems and vines, so first I'm going to take some twine and wrap them lightly around each one of their size and then on top.
I'm going to create a sort of ball effect by wrapping it around Abed, going down one side, looping around the bottom, coming back up one side, adding more on top until I get the desired look I want for this topiary and then once you're done you're just going to cut it towards the bottom so you don't see anything weird, you know, 20 and you're going to take it out and hot glue it into place, that's what the top looks like. I think it looks like this. cute like this, especially when we start adding all of our greenery and flowers, so you're going to go ahead and just remove all the flowers from your bundle, stem the wires and cut the ends apart. all you don't want is for any of them to clump together because we want it to look like their vines are wrapping around this sphere like you would see them outside in a garden, so one by one you're going to take the hot glue. burn your pointy fingers a few times and then you're going to put in some greenery, maybe a flower, maybe a little more of that greenery and you're going to continue all the way, blending and making it flow naturally and pretty, and I don't I made it the same length on each side of the sphere, some were less a little lower all the way to the top, that knot I made with the twine and you'll see it at the end when I show it all. wrapped with all this greenery, how do you not want it to be so obviously consistent, you want it to look like you know some are growing better than others and that makes it look more real and natural, so when someone sees it in your house and they will think wow, that's cool, you have something like that in your house and you'll say I made it, I made it myself, so here's the finished look and you can see, like I said, some go all the way. above and some don't, once everything was dry, I spray painted it black to get that cast iron look that we had as inspiration and then I'm going to go a little bit lighter than the black, a very, very dark slate gray.
I'm just going to lightly brush on a little bit of that paint because we want to create that cast iron look on our pot and then, you know, just add back a little bit of black where you feel like you went a little bit too light because it's supposed to. which should look like this. it's black but you want it to look like cast iron and then again because I love this rustic look and this is the theme of what I'm doing with this video and all these projects that I'm coming back to. with a little bit of brown paint, lightly hit the corners here and there and then blend in the black to create that really quite rustic look in the weather, err, sea and salt air once everything is dry and you've gone around all the places desired. of your pot, you're ready to start filling it, so I'm going to take a square of foam, cut it to the right size and make sure it fits really well because we want this to last a long time and then I'm going to glue it all in place with glue hot.
I'll also make sure to fill in the sides to make sure it's really snug in there and that the hot glue holds it well. Another tip is that you don't want it to be like this. too high there because you don't want it to clash with your topiary, you want to make sure it's placed properly. Now I'm going to slow down in the next part because I want everyone to see really well what I'm doing and I don't want to go too fast so I'm taking a piece of wire bending it in half like this and then I'm going to put it on the end of the topiary going into the pot and then I'm going to hold it as close to the topiary sphere as I can and I'm just going to twist it to create a nice tight twisted piece of wire on top and you're doing this because the topiary itself It will come out easily.
It can be removed if you just hot glue it or eat 6 mil, so what I'm doing is I'm creating this wire holder and then I'm putting a little bit of glue here on my foam and I'm going to take that wire. and I'm going to push it down into the foam and this will help hold it in place, they're even more comfortable and secure without it falling out. Then once you have it in place you can look for glue around the sides where the stain touches the pot and it will stay there for a long time and you won't have to worry about it falling apart or rolling off when someone hits it once they You've hot glued everything into place.
So let's grab some ferns that they also have at Dollar Tree right now. I tell you that tree has so many beautiful flowers. I'm so impressed this year that I think you'll hear me say that a lot in my videos I'll try to stay on top by making that comment every time but I get so excited with each new season they keep coming out with better and better stuff so you'll keep going and you're going to put some of those ferns up and then you're also going to take some green moss and fill it in to cover all the foam and then I'm going to take a little more of these little wildflower stems and put them in there.
Now, to finish off that nautical, beachy farmhouse look, I'm going to take some of that thick rope and just wrap it around the base. The other reason I decided to do this is that it just cleaned up the look of the bottom base. and I just don't know, I personally liked how it turned out, you don't have to do this part, but I really liked it, I thought it looked really nice when it was all done, so I'm going to take another rope and I'm going to hot glue the back so it stays in place and then I'll just tie an overhand knot in the front and fray the ends of the rope to create that nice nautical look again that I think I've got quite the farmhouse beach look, coastal look just in mind because we are.
I'm thinking of a warmer climate. It's very cold right now in Missouri. I miss the California weather I grew up with. whole life so this is the final look the next project we're going to do is with these supplies you're going to use the printable again and some moss these little foam core cups and some sticks now you're just going to Use the love that you're going to cut out and use a colored pencil or a colored crayon on the back and trace them onto a piece of foam core once you have everything, trace and you can see how the lines go. and use your Exacto knife and cut everything you will need for the next step.
We're going to take those sticks and add a nice dollop of hot glue to the back of the letters and then hot glue them together. Make sure your eye is facing the right direction before you stick it on because it's easy to stick it upside down, as well as the L, V and heart, they don't really matter much, but the other two you can put upside down and hot. glue them together by accident, then you're going to take four cups, those little serving cups that you can get in the party supplies area and you're just going to paint the outside white and then once you have all four.
When you paint them, you're going to go ahead and let them dry and you're going to move on to probably the most complicated part of this craft, but I think the impact is so beautiful that you're going to take hot glue and to cover the entire surface on one side of the heart and then take a little of this green moss and you're just going to massage it into place, you're going to give it a little haircut where you feel like you're losing the shape of your heart or your letter and then continue to add hot glue and you're going to continue to turn this thing over and continue to massage it by adding hot glue, try not to burn your finger and once you have everything in place, you are ready to give it a little haircut and make sure to check if there are any spots that you may be missing.
The trick to keeping the moss from coming off is to push it down into the hot glue and then once you've covered the entire surface, this is what it looks like and you're going to do that for the other three, the LB and the E, When the white paint is completely dry, go ahead and return to your cups. Now you don't have to do this part, but I thought it was so sweet, cute and simple to do. I'm going to take the back of my brush and create little hearts on all the white cups. I loved this little detail and thought it was so lovely and then I'm going to take an even lighter pink color and just make three little dots all together and fill in those dots between the hearts.
Now you're going to take a little bit more of that foam square and you're just going to stick it right on the cup once it's nice and secure in there you're going to take the stick of each of your letters and heart and you're just going to place them in there with lots of hot glue. I like to use a lot. and making sure it's really held in place before you let it go and then adding a little more hot glue and just filling in a little more moss and giving it a haircut where it needs it and then to top it off a little detail that I took You can get this pink twine in the craft section of the Dollar Tree and simply tied a cute little bow just on the heart for the next project.
I will take four fabrics of different colors. I had one solid and three patterns. Some tapes of your liking. they all came from Dollar Tree, which always really impresses me. In the end I decided to switch to a more neutral type ribbon, but if you're looking for ribbons at Dollar Tree, they have some really cute things and I chose these. from different sections, some from the floral section, some from the Christmas sections, but they have a lot of ribbons in there that you can buy for just a dollar and then I also used this fern and you girls have heard me talk about these ferns. before I love them I'm so happy that they come out in the spring and I always pull them all out so let's do my trick again where I take the wrapping paper turn it over and create a pattern for a shape this is The best way to do it because it has those grid lines that I've talked about in other previous videos when I'm crafting, so we're going to make three hearts of different sizes, one very large, one medium and one small.
The reason we are going to do this is because we are going to cut hearts out of our fabric to create a very pretty and romantic wreath for your front door. Now the reason I love this one the most is simply because I think anytime it's something that's not the typical norm that you see in home decor, especially like a wreath, it's usually round. Sometimes I love it when you look at the door of your house and people come up, see it and think. It's really pretty, so once you've cut out the three different shaped hearts, go ahead and lay them all out so you can see the different sizes.
Be sure to check them out. You want to make sure they are really different. in size and then you will simply pin them all to your fabric and start cutting them out. I picked up these fabrics from Joanne's. I loved this Buffalo plaid painting. I picked up the little mini oneshearts and then also the veined white. one and then having a solid pink is very important because you want to be able to give the eye a break from all the patterns that you could use, if you want to use red as well, take a long strand of twine and go ahead and place that down and then you'll take glue heat it up and you're going to go around the heart shape, except for the bottom tail of the heart, you don't want to put glue in there because when you're done doing that, I'm going to fill these hearts in so they're nice and soft.
I'm so pretty. Make sure the hot glue is really dry before you start filling it because the glue can separate from the fabric if it's not completely dry so go ahead and just take a small amount, you don't want it to be too thick because the sides of the heart start to bend and you can tell when it's too full, you're going to go ahead and put a little bit inside your heart, push it up and Once you have everything in place and you feel like it's nice and fluffy like you want, you're going to take the glue the heart and you're going to hot glue the rest of it, then you're going to push the batting in and out and use your hot glue, you're just going to attach it, keep applying hot glue until everything is nice and dry and really pretty, so that's it what each heart should look like when you're done filling them in and when you're done with all of them.
It just looks so cute at this point again it's super whimsical and romantic now you're going to grab a piece of foam court. I made a rectangle shape and then what I like to do is cut the sides to make sure it's not visible at the end and now I'm going to take those pieces of thread. Can you see how long these strands should be when you first cut them? You want to make sure they are long enough so they can hang really pretty. Then you will glue your hearts on one at a time and you will do it this way because you want to measure the length to make sure they are all seen and they can't be on top of each other. piled up into a big mess and I use the rectangle shape as you can see here at the top of the foam center piece because I wanted to be able to make sure I had adequate space to be able to place these hearts and then as you go along it makes you lift it up. every once in a while so you can see where it's getting too crowded and see where it looks great and you need another heart if you have an empty space and then you keep adding them.
Now, another tip is that these light pinks, like I said before, will help you break that pattern. When you lay down your hearts, you want to make sure they are crisscrossed with each other so you can see the little red mini. Heart fabric that I put in front of each other and then in addition to the gray and white buffalo check, I put them in front of each other and on top of each other, it makes it more interesting when you are done, cut all your pieces of twine on top and then I'm going to take those ferns and just glue them on to help camouflage those things that we were gluing to the telephone wire before, we want to make sure we keep this look nice and clean because it just makes it look more professional so just trim any excess you don't need and then this will look so pretty because it has some floral greenery on top, stick them all down and in place and once you have your ferns, then you can move on to small delicate flowers.
All of these flowers come from the Dollar Tree. I love that they have delicate little flowers like this just because they make great fillers or when you don't want something to happen. So straight up with a lot of big flowers, I think it looks really pretty putting them all together, especially with these ferns, these boxwood leaves come from a long vine that I bought at Hobby Lobby. I use the 40% off coupon. and I cut it all the time whenever I work on projects. I love adding little stems from that box because it's so pretty, so you're going to take more of a rectangular shape from that foam core.
To cut the top again around the sides like this and glue it on, this will allow you to attach a bow and hang it on the front door. You'll also notice here that I glued the top. The tails of my bow are placed in that first rectangle shape so that that way it doesn't compete with all the flowers and the bow can be in the front and the tails go down the back once you have the ribbon and this extra piece of foam . In the center, you'll then take a piece of yarn, a bow and glue it in place so you can hang it and then flip it over so you can add your bow, add a really crazy nice bow on the front of that. foam center piece that we just added and then you're going to take a flower and I chose a neutral looking color just because I already feel like there's so much color going on, first you're going to glue a leaf of that flower to the phone wire to hide the white and then add the flower and that completes the look of this.
I'm going to grab these really adorable mini candle holders. I think that's what they are. I'll link the product below this. little birdhouse again, I'll link it below where I can and then from these popsicle sticks, they picked them up from the Dollar Tree, start by cutting any ribbon that might be on the top of these many birdhouses. I love this one because they had a little heart and then I'm going to take a little bit of e6000 and I'm going to put it on two sides of this little mini candle holder and then I'm going to take a little bit of hot glue on the other two sides, this is to make sure that it really sticks. holds well in place over time and doesn't break very easily, hot glue dries much faster than e6000 to keep it in place and when the a6000 dries and actually stays in place very well then I'm going to Grab some white paint and you can do this with any color for Valentine's Day.
You can do pink or red, it's up to you, but I'll choose white because I love the look of white in my house and once I do. I've got it all painted and then I'm going to grab these popsicle sticks. I think you can do so many amazing things with popsicle sticks. I really love how they look in craft projects because they give you that wooden element and you can get it for a very low price. cheap price, go ahead and cut it to size and then just line them up so you know what size you need on the other ones and then with some scissors just cut those pieces out and then I'll create some wood shingles on top. this little birdhouse and really elevates the look instead of just being a traditional little birdhouse that you would see in a craft store.
I love doing this with these little houses because you can really personalize them and make them look so cute and special for your home decor, once you've done one side you'll go ahead and just do the other side too, again trace the pieces you need, cut the ends, cutting them makes me laugh because it says you shoot everywhere. so keep in mind when you're doing this project you can cut them like a towel or cloth a few times so they don't fly everywhere and then once you have them all glued in place. To finish off the top of the roof you will take two more thin pieces, cut them to size and place them on the opposite side to create a really nice finish on the top of your roof when you have glued them in place and they look nice and finished, you can leave the wood raw or you could paint it or stain it or whatever.
Now look how nice and finished the top is, so you just put on a little bit of hot glue and then place two of them, but one towards the other going in the opposite direction once you have them all in place. I took some black and brown paint. I use mostly brown paint with a small black dot just to darken it a little to give it more of a farmhouse stain finish instead of just being brown. I like to add just a little bit of black dot and then use a little bit of water to turn it into a sort of lime.
Sena, so instead of having it, go out and buy a real tint, this is my best way to do it and many of you have given me a lot of great tips on how to create a tint look with paint. This is my personal favorite. way to do it because it's super cheap and cost effective and then I just take a small brush and I just go over all the popsicle sticks making sure I don't miss a single spot and I see how pretty it looks when you use the black and the mixed brown combo together it looks so cute the next DIY is with these books that I bought from the Dollar Tree.
I know some might cringe, but know that I love books. I'm not just destroying books. I'm going to turn them into something cute, so be patient until the end and it's okay if you're a book lover and this isn't for you. I totally get it, once you've taken all the covers off your books, then you're going to go for a very light pink, you can do this any color, honestly you can do white if you want, if you're going for the farmhouse style, which is the style of this, but I chose a pink for Valentine's Day.
Go ahead and paint the entire cover whatever color you want and make sure you look at the inside so you don't see that color showing up wherever the pages are, paint everything wherever you see that color on the cover, the color. what you want, there's a little link below if you're interested, this is what I'm using in my books. I created the same three labels but in different sizes, so if your book spine is larger or smaller, I'll have some options to play with that are linked for free below in my description box, so be sure to grab them a once you have the ones you want to use for your books.
You're going to go ahead and grab some brown paint if you're going for a distressed look and you're going to dry your brush and what that means is you're going to get just a little bit of paint, dry most of it and then dry your brush because your brush is dry. with that color until it looks worn and worn, then I'll take some Mod Podge and I'll just put a little bit on it and then I'll put my label on it and then I'll put a layer on top of it to Seal the book label. I think this is so cute and you can do this during so many holidays.
There are people who sell them and make a living from what they charge. I think it's crazy, folks. I don't do that, I'm not trying to discourage people from buying from artisans, but I think if there's something you can do yourself that's super super simple and do it yourself, I think it saves money, okay, the next thing I wanted show is not every book in this project will have a tag. I decided to take some hearts and go up the spine and all I do is just make a point and pull them down to the tail.
I'm making a bigger heart and a smaller one. heart and then I follow it with little dots in the middle once everything is dry. I'm going to take this burlap ribbon, this is the same one I used on that other project earlier. I like to try to use similar products for all my projects that way so you save your money and get the best bang for your buck, go ahead and grab some hot glue and stick all the covers on so everything is nice and secure and then take that burlap ribbon first and now place it again. use a popsicle stick because the glue will crush these burlap ribbons and burn you.
I don't want you to get hurt and then I'm going to take some of your pink rips that they have in their craft section and I'm going to wrap it a couple of times and tie a little simple knot letting the threads hang over the side of the book and then , to give it that romantic feel, I'm going to grab this ribbon, all of these again are from the Dollar Tree and their craft sections or their floral sections you'll usually see them there, sometimes you'll find them in the Christmas sections so go ahead and stick that ribbon on lace and then to finish it off, I used this sheer E vellum ribbon and I'm going to manipulate the bow.
I like to glue the bow the way I like it so it looks fluffier and lasts a long time. If you're on Instagram, come say hi. I love posting my projects there and I love seeing all the things you all are making, especially if you were inspired by one of my projects and made them, tag me there. I want to see your creations and your opinion about them. Think it is so. It's fun to see the projects you all are doing and then tag me in them. I have enjoyed it a lot. What we are doing today is a statement piece for your front door and I grabbed this red bucket from the Dollar Tree and spray painted it. white the other things you're going to need are four wooden hearts a foam block two bags of rocks and then some very long painter's sticks that you can get at home improvement stores.
I think it's a dollar for these three lengths once you have all your supplies ready and there will be a couple of things we'll add towards the end, but that's to get started, you'll take your wooden hearts, cut the twine or ribbon off of them and then you'll use some hot glue to fill in the holes and then you'll just wipe off the excess and rub anything you don't want in there, then you'll take some white and pink paint and mix whatever color you want. If you have something in a bottle that you like, you can always use that too, but go ahead and paint your four hearts on aside.
You can do both if you want to do both but this will be on the front door and no one will see the back once everything is set aside and drying we'll go back to that red bucket we spray painted white this is the coolest technique never seen before and, if you've never done it, I tried it. I recommend trying it. It has a fantastic result. When you're done, all you're going to do is start with the white base and then you'll move on to using a dark gray and your brush, and you're done. You're just going to touch that color everywhere where it looks really blotchy and blotchy, then you're going to add a little bit more white mixture and then you're going to go ahead and do the same thing again;
You don't want to completely cover the entire surface. because you want the white to show through as you build the layer, you are creating a galvanized tin bucket. This was only $1 and if you've ever bought a tin bucket you'll know they are very expensive so then as you go you'll keep adding the next layer of light so I'm almost to the point where it's a gray very, very faint that it turns white and I'm just going to touch very lightly. Towards the end your layers will become less and less as well as the amount of paint you are putting on the surface because you want to make sure all the colors show through, don't forget to do the handles and the top. parts where you will see it once your cube is dry go ahead and take your square phone put some hot glue on the bottom and by some I mean a lot and then take a bag of rocks and place it right on top and let it sit there for about a minute or two to make sure everything sticks well, then you'll take some more hot glue, place it on the bottom of the bucket, and then go ahead and drop your bags of rocks with the mesh on.
It will help all the rocks stay in place and help the mesh bag stick to the hot glue. Simply attach the bottom. Next you will take another square of foam and reduce it to the sizes you need. In those empty spaces we want to make sure we fill everything and it's very important to make sure everything is tight so it doesn't move. Next, you're going to take some of the letters from the Dollar Tree and I'm going to put whatever you want on the front. I've decided to go to a flower shop and put roses in there and then here's a tip: they don't have a cent sign, so what I like to do is take a C and then two.
I cut the long parts of the elves and place them on top of each other to make a long band. You'll see me do it right here. I placed them on top of each other and then put them right on top. the C and create a smell signal once you have everything in place and you like it, go ahead and take some Mod Podge and rub it all over to seal the letters so they never come off while the cube is off. to one dry side and you're going to go back to the hearts because they should already be dry at this point, go ahead and put together two ends that are flat, not the part that is a little curved where the neck is that you're going to be at the ends of this long thing that you are creating and then you will take the third stick, you will put a little more hot glue and you will put it right on top of them, this will make it a really sturdy long stick to be able to place the hearts next, then turn it over and you will place the hearts the way you would like them to be, hot glue them on and make sure again to be generous because you want to. stay there now, the next step is optional, you don't have to do it, but I happen to have a staple gun on hand, so I went ahead and took out my staple gun and used it to make sure everything stays in place with the hot glue and where it won't really come apart, but the hot glue will hold together very well and will work very well outside in the weather.
I've done this before and I didn't use a staple gun, okay, the next part is we could leave these. hearts as is but I felt like they looked a little flat and I wanted to liven them up a little more to resist them so I went with a lighter shade of pink and I'm just distressing the shape of the heart so staying along those edges making sure that when you go to the center you are curving it to create a sort of appearance of depth, remember friends, you don't have to be a great painter to do this kind of thing, you just have to try it and have fun once you've got your hearts dry, Go ahead and add a bow to the top of the stick and you can use whatever ribbons you want.
These ribbons are all from the Dollar Tree right now, one era from the wedding section, the Easter section, and the floral section. now we're going to go back to the base and we're going to add some of this mossy material, glue it all in place and then grab the stick that has the hearts on it and push it down into that styrofoam shape. You sure use a lot of hot glue to keep everything in place. This will work great since there are rocks and it has weight to it and it will stand nice and tall next to the front door.
Now here comes my favorite part was adding the roses. I love, love, love the color of these roses. I've been using them all this month. I didn't do too many. I wanted to be able to still see the moss at the bottom, but I had a lot of fun just bringing that in. soft creamy pink color for our next project, we're going to take four of these Dollar Tree signs and with a butter knife we're just going to move them underneath and pull them out in some spots, it can be a little tricky to get under. but once you do, they should come off very easily, then you're going to take a little bit of white paint and this is just to be careful and make sure nothing bleeds through the paper and you can see the previous artwork that we have on these. signs I'm going to go over very quickly with some white paint to try to camouflage them once the paint is dry, then you're going to take some twelve by twelve scrapbook paper and the size works great for four of these signs and you're going to cut it out.
Once you've cut all four, you'll simply double-check one more time to make sure it's the right size and then trim off any excess that isn't hanging or hanging off the sides. so you're going to have a little more of that Mod Podge. I swear I use this like I'm losing a single project. I really love the adhesive bonding capabilities of Mod Podge. I just don't know, I use it all the time. Y'all use it as much as I do, leave a comment below okay, so once you've glued them in place and you have some letters cut out, you can print them out and cut them out, you can cut them out on a Cricut or a silhouette, you're also going to take this sign and we're going to hijack one of the hearts because we're going to paint it white, so take off that tape and try to remove as much adhesive as you can. some sandpaper and sand whatever is still there, which is what you'll see me do here.
I feel like it's the quickest way to get these things off of this particular heart that we're going to use once you've got it all taken off and dusted off, making sure there aren't any strange, you know, bits of sand, then you're going to grab some paint. white and you will paint everything white and once you have everything. Painted white, then you're going to set it aside and let it dry because we're going to go back to our signs and put them all in place, go ahead and grab the Mod Podge again and you're going to stick your letters on and this is because we want to make sure that they actually We seal them to the sign so that they do not peel off or break over time.
Then I'll make them look a little more like scrabble. Tile, I personally love Scrabble and I actually looked at the value of each of these letters. Now you can make love, you can do it at home, you can get more signs and about your family's name, that could be really cute too, but Mod Podge take those letters down and then come back to your heart when it's dry, grab some twine or a ribbon or some of these little garland leaves I picked up from the Dollar Tree place at Christmas. I only have a lot. I bought it in bulk basically because I loved it so much, but you can put whatever you want around the heart and then you're just going to hot glue a little bow of twine to the top to finish the look on the front.
I think the little ties always make things look that way. cute, I don't know what's up with the bows, a bunch of bows and then on the back I took two stacked pieces of foam cord, cut them to size and I'm going to line up my sign to make sure that when I leave the sweetheart, it goes right to where I want the next DIY I'll be sharing today to be. I'm grabbing an 11 by 14 frame from the Dollar Tree, some lighter pink paint foam core, and some tape. Now this one I think might be my favorite one I made in all the DIYs today, it's really simple and very affordable to make and it makes a big impact on the shelves where you decorate for the holidays, so go ahead and pull out the removable backing. all those little metal brackets and then give it two coats of paint.
You want to make sure the paint is nice and thick and white just because it makes it look higher quality. Then take a piece of computer paper and fold it in half. and I sketch half a heart. I hear from people all the time that they struggle with freeforming and this is the way I always do it. I cheat. I fold my paper in half and then mirror the image so that once you do it. You already have it outlined, so you will take your scissors and simply cut around the heart that you outlined and you will have a perfectly shaped heart on both sides.
Take that paper and place it on a piece of the foam core. Now. I'm using one and a half pieces of foam core board for the large signs for all of these projects today, so you can really get a lot out of a single piece of foam core board, so now I'm going to create some lines that I traced the first. like a solid heart, but next one we're going to create an overlapping look, so my bands I'm going to keep our two inches wide and then I'm going to use less than a quarter inch, you can see here. very small and I'm just going to cut out those pieces that I don't want, we want the bands that we're going to layer on that solid heart to be two inches thick, so once I've cut out all of my pieces Then I'm going to take all of those little papers, my little templates, and I'll just trace them all over the telephone cable board making sure I don't miss any and it doesn't matter which one either. way you place them because as long as you've cut them as straight as possible to the line, you'll be able to figure it out by turning them back or forward once you've cut everything out, so move on to the next part which is going to be painting, we're going to do an effect really cool, I'm brie in this heart and I can't wait to show you that I really love men, I think they are very pretty during the spring, so go ahead and put them all in the order that you know they should be and then we will start painting the heart big first.
First I took some brown paint and then pink because we want to have a darker base coat. underneath on the main heart, so go ahead and paint that where there's a nice mauve pink color all over your heart, then you're going to take the pink color without the brown, put it on a plate and then paint. the first two heart bumps at the top have the darker shade of pink and then when you move down you're going to add a little bit more white and then you're going to paint the next one and then you're going to add a little bit more. white and paint the next one and you're doing this like I said to create an ombre effect.
It looks so pretty when it's all done. You'll see it in a moment when we finish this part, but I think it's really fun to do it. I think this is a great project to do when you have some free time and just want to play with paint and get really artistic. You can do this with any color you want. All you have to do is keep adding a little white as you wish. Move on to the next layer now, if you feel like the paint color isn't changing, it's because you probably have too much paint on the brush, so go ahead and wipe it up a little bit and then add a little bit more white and then keep moving. down so that the end of the heart is the lightest shade, it's the little tip of the tail of the heart and we almost want it to be like a very, very soft baby pink, icy pink and again make sure to cover the sides of that and While they dry joerger, then I'm going to take four long ribbons.
I decided to use silkier ribbons that had a satin feel and then two lace ribbons and I will place them in the middle of the tip of the ribbon. In the middle I'm going to glue them and then I'm going to pull them back because I want them to have four ends on each bump of the heart. Can you see that here? I hope that makes sense, make sure everything is glued together very well. nothing happens over time and then while the hot glue dries you are ready to go ahead and start putting your heart together so I started with the bottom tail tip of the heart put on a little bit of hot glue and then went to the next. one and now you see how there's a space between these sections of the shadow pieces and you can see that darker color underneath, it gives it that overlapping look that looks very farmhouse Valentine's Day, which is perfect for the decoration of my home.
I love it I think it's so pretty I'll keep uploading it untilI go to the top of my heart to make sure everything is glued together because you don't want things to pop up over time and surprisingly, I'm always really impressed by foam core just because even when I paint over it, if you have a nice chunk foam core, the dollar store has a great brand they sell there, it doesn't bend or move when I paint it once you get it. You've got all the pieces on, so you're ready to assemble them into that frame, but before we do that we're going to take some sandpaper and rough up the edges.
You don't have to do this, but I loved how it turned out. now you're going to take your heart and your ribbon and you're going to tie a silk and a lace together a silk, you know, tie a silk and a lace together I like to do that just because it makes it look more romantic of them and here's the result end of that frame. I'm going to grab this 6x6 board that you can pick up at Dollar Tree. They have all kinds of these in their frames section and I'm going to cover it. with a little paint to give it a chalk finish look.
I'm just taking some white and black paint mixing them together to create a dark slate gray color and then I'm just going to go over everything very quickly to make sure it's right. nice and covered I don't worry about the interior. Sometimes I like to paint the inside, so know that if you want that nice finish on both sides, you can paint both sides and once you have it all covered and it's drying. To the side you're going to grab some of these wildflowers that they have right now, the Dollar Tree, these are some of the new spring flowers that they're putting out.
I cut off all the green stems and this is how I think this is the best technique to do this. I discovered this a couple of days ago in a project I love, just put a little blue at the end and glue the petals together and it will form a nice long vine. Once you've glued them down and they're on the side drying, and you've made it as long as you want, then you're going to take a ruler and again, if you have a silhouette, you can always trim them to your silhouette, but I want everyone to see that it's not necessary. have one of those machines so you can make a pretty sign, you just take a ruler with a pencil sketch of a saying or phrase that you like or a quote, whatever and then you're going to take a small tipped paintbrush and go over the letters and just take your time and have fun.
With it, a lot of people have asked me how I hand paint my lettering and it's something I've practiced for many years and it's a really fun project to do when you're sitting and watching TV to practice. It gets better and better and it really is the truth. The more you practice hand painting your letters, the better you will get. I think hand painted letters are so pretty and add such a personalized look and touch to your projects that you can just look at. how I'm taking my time here, I'm not rushing and this is a great project, like I said, put on a movie, put on some music and have a good time, just paint them and if you ever make a mistake, you can always come back to add the same color to it, paint it and then start again, so I recommend trying it and acquiring this skill.
It's a really fun thing if you don't have a cutting machine now, once the vine has been sitting for a little bit and it's nice and dry, then we'll turn it into a little mini wreath. I like to use a little hot glue on the leaves to attach them to the vine pieces. Once you have it, you can wrap it. and twist it into a circle and then grab some ribbon from the Dollar Tree, make a loop at the top and then with a little more hot glue you'll find your location and place it right on top of the frame.
I want it so that the little crown allows it to spin around. You're painting on the front with your phrase or quote and then you just put that ribbon around the top and back and then make sure you hot glue everything together. in place so it looks nice and finished, don't see the top of the tape, make it come back through the back and stick it on, we're going to take this glass jar and this painter's tape, and this is a great project for Someone who wants to try being crafty and isn't sure yet if it's their thing or not, or is just looking for a cute gift idea for a teacher, will put up those three pieces of ribbon like me.
I did it there and now we're going to grab some wrapping paper and I love using wrapping paper because there are grid lines on the back that will help you get that nice, clean shape that you're looking for, you can draw and follow those lines . once you get the size of heart you like for the front of your glass, you don't want it to be too big, you're going to go ahead and trace it on the painter's tape and then cut it out because now we have a template so we can stick it on the glass .
I do this technique all the time with all kinds of shapes and it really works well. Then I put my heart on my glass and started painting now. I will recommend it because you are working in glass. You should use spray paint, but since it was so cold outside this day, I'm just showing you that you can use any paint to do it, but I will tell you that using acrylic paint on glass will eventually scratch and peel off the spray paint. Not so, if you want it to last long term I highly recommend using spray paint, if the weather permits go outside and spray paint.
Once you've dried it completely, you can go ahead and remove the painter's tape and then and just scrape it off if you see any little bleeding, it should come off pretty easy. Now there are two ways you can make this craft idea. You can taste it with a little caramel. Screw on the top and give it to a teacher. or someone that you just care about, that is in your life and that you love, or you can use it as a decorative element, which is what I will do in our house. I grabbed some of this white sand that you can find at Dollar Tree and again everything. of these supplies came from the Dollar Tree but I filled some sand in the bottom and then took some twine that they had and just wrapped it around a few times and tied an overhand knot and then the last thing is adding a candle this could be very pretty at a wedding or for Valentine's Day.
There's a lot of potential with this look now. I don't know if you've been to the Dollar Tree yet this new year, but they've brought out the ferns again. In fact, they are highly sought after and when I was picking them with all my other flowers there were tons of people trying to grab them at the same time. They also have several hearts of different shapes. I'm going to use the simple wooden heart. this time and then I'm going to take a piece of Styrofoam and cut it in half because we're going to use those to help our hearts stand out.
Now we are going to remove a piece of foam core again. that piece that we've been working on and I cut it to a size of about 8 inches by 15 inches and then I wanted to make sure, after hot gluing those pieces of Styrofoam in there, that they would stay on nicely, so I just pushed a hole in the side of the foam core and tied them together with twine and then this is the part that I think is really fun and you can use your creativity however you think would look best, you're going to take your flowers and you're going to start putting them together and put them inside.
Now I want to make sure nothing falls off, so I'm putting little dots of hot glue here and there, which I feel like might come off. to make sure it lasts a long time and you can have this wreath for many years. This is not your typical crown. We're doing one a little different because I really thought it would be really pretty. have some big, pretty hearts with flowers on the front door once you've made your way around the outside of your squares. Now remember that you don't need anything in between. You're going to leave this bottom corner open because we're going to put some ribbon there, but this is what it looks like and next we're going to work on our hearts, so take your two wooden hearts and give them a nice coat of white paint and then, as I have in mind the ombre, we're going to take a little bit of that pink eraser paint color and we're going to start adding it lightly on the side and you're going to keep the brush a little bit dry, you want the white paint to stay wet, but as you add, you have a Dry brush and you're going to keep blending and dabbing that in and if you feel like you have too much pink, you're just going to take that white and add it back in and keep blending it one more time once you're done. the hearts are all dry, go ahead and hot glue them onto those foam squares.
Make sure you use plenty of hot glue so it stays on for a long time and is nice and secure. I decided to add some hot glue where the heart will be. We'll meet the other one and press everything down to keep it in place. Now we're going to go ahead and add our arc to that bottom corner. I have a video of the arc coming out next week and I can't wait to show it. To see all the bows and how I make them, I'm going to show you ribbon and fabric, so stay tuned for that next week and then so we can hang it on your front door or anywhere in your house, go ahead and add. a little bit of tape on the back and with your Dollar Tree letter stickers then you're going to spell hello love and I thought this was such a cute finishing touch to these hearts making them look like candy hearts and I love I love how I especially love that ombre look of the hearts, it makes them really pop and stand out even more and then to make the hearts pop a little more from the flowers, I'm just taking a black marker and I'm going over the edges with some little dashes to create that stitch look in the hearts.
I think this is really cute and anyone can do it and all the materials are from Dollar Tree. This next look from Less I was dying when I saw this. price I can't believe this was selling for $49 and on sale $39 because Dollar Tree actually carries succulents starting this time of year, they are $1 for each of these stems. I picked up some of this Spanish moss and then this white bowl. In the kitchen section, all of these together were much cheaper than they were sold at Pottery Barn and I think it's a good dupe if you love your home plants to look succulent, so grab a regular pair of scissors . you know, you're starting to almost get out the door that you don't mind using to cut some plastic, cut next to the edge and take your time to chop as close as you can and then cut the handles, they actually cut with quite easily.
I'm showing you in real speed how fast they come off and then you're going to take some foam squares and you're just going to stick them to the bottom of that container and then you're going to take some moss. We're going to pull it apart, massage it a little bit because when it's in the package it's like a very tight ball to fit in there, so you're just going to pull it apart and then you're going to hot glue it onto the styrofoam so it doesn't fall off over time. , then you will simply take your succulents and stick them back into the styrofoam.
Can you see why I said I was surprised at how much they were charging for that plant? They sell succulents at Pottery Barn and they had this one I have here. They sell three of them for $20. I think that's what they could have cost for $25. If you buy them at Dollar Tree, you can buy three for $3. Go take your pick. Buy some succulents, it's worth it. I'm going to use these supplies from the Dollar Tree. Ignore this feather decoration element. After all, I didn't end up using it. Take the wire, unroll it and you will cut 35 inches of length. and you're just going to use your wire cutters to do that and then take the beads you can pick up the pearls more specifically from the Dollar Tree, you're going to use the large and medium size and then you're going to take the wire, fold it in half and At the midpoint you will pinch it to fold that line.
When you open it, you will make a curving motion up and out to create the shape of a heart. play with it and have fun remember you are trying to create a big pretty heart once you have got it to a place where you think it looks pretty go ahead and start stringing your beads. I'm going to go back and Next, with a large, medium, large, medium, large, medium, where you have all the beads threaded, then you're going to take the ends and just fold them over because you don't want the beads to fall out as we work.
In the next part of this craft, go ahead and then pick up some of those flowers you got from the Dollar Tree. I'm using pink roses and the peonies that they have there and I'm just going to take six of them in a group of you know the two different flowers and I'm going to pack them together very tightly forming a little ball. I'm folding the heads of the roses down so you can see more of the front and top of them versus the sides and then once you've placed them all where you want them in a very tight bundle, go ahead and tie it up.
You will do this twice because these two bundles will create the top bulges of a heart. Taking these roses and giving them a heart shape I thought would be very fun and romantic. DIY to place in your house, hang it on your front door or wherever you want to place it, it can be used in many places once you have the two packages , go ahead and cut that extra piece off the zipper. tie, you don't want it to be there and then you'll see I'm going to grab it rightwhere the bridle is and I'm going to bend it to the side because you're going to I want to take those two sins, put them together and then tie them as well and again we need to have that crack that's open between the two bundles to create the heart where it sinks so go ahead and make sure you bend them enough. far enough to one side to create that bump and then just put them together with a zip tie and then hot glue it to hold it in place so it doesn't twist or move, then you're going to take a few more flowers and you're going to start filling right under of that cave that you have between your two packs and you're going to keep filling it up and making sure that you're getting less and less towards the bottom so that" You're adapting it to be just one last rose at the bottom.
Once you have everything in place you will take the zip tie and once again get it nice and tight so everything stays in place and then just massage it around your flowers making sure everything blends in nice and looks nice and pretty . Once you've figured them out, you're going to work on bringing up your accounts next. This is the part I just did. I think it's very nice. Look how this turned out. Can you imagine it? You could totally do this for a wedding. In my opinion, you can do it for more than just Valentine's Day.
So you're going to take those beads and just place them on your heart without losing the shape of the flowers and you're going to bring them to the back and you're going to open that wire up again and wrap it around them. stems with green wire so it sits nice and snug there and then just twist around the wire and use a little bit of hot glue to help keep it in place because you don't want it to come off and the beads to fly everywhere over time. We're just going to apply hot glue with just a little bit to hold everything in place and then run the wire through the other side and continue doing the exact same steps and then hot glue it in place so again they don't fall out and then you have beads. rolling all over the place, now on the back we want it to be pretty, especially if you're going to do this as a bouquet or something like real flowers, go ahead and just complete the back by doing the exact same thing.
In the same process, you'll just put more towards the top and then keep working down to where there's less and less and keep tying zippers when you feel them getting a little tight. too loose bringing it up to a flower at the end now to cover the stems just a little. I like that green stem sticking out at the bottom, it makes them look more real and natural. I'm just going to take This ribbon and go around the top to hide where the ties are, glue it in place and then to finish off the look and make it look so pretty, I'm going to add a bow and I feel like this. a beautiful romantic project, I don't know what everyone thinks, I love it so much, so I'm going to grab a lace ribbon from the Dollar Tree and I'm going to go down or we had those two together. of those bundles from the beginning and I'm just going to roll it up, tie it in a simple knot and that way you can hang it or put it on a shelf somewhere you want, we'll take these painters. sticks that I bought at Home Depot, they have ten and a pack.
I think they cost about a dollar fifty for the package. I bought two of them: those packs and then one of these wooden hearts from the Dollar Tree that you are going to buy. open up those painter's sticks and you're going to place thirteen of them together just like I'm doing here and this is because we want to create a large enough surface so that our heart can be placed on them to create a really nice sign for the Farmhouse Valentine's Day, once you have thirteen of them in a row and you like how they're spaced so that it has that overlapping feel, then you're going to take more painter's sticks and break them down to fit the length that you have and just You'll put them back with the spacing you want and hot glue them into place once you've glued them in place, then turn them over. the other side and add a little more to give it a sturdier support so it doesn't break.
I like to make sure things are really strong every time I use them, so you'll see I'm putting it on both sides. and then in a second you'll see that I'm also going to use a staple gun to make sure everything is strong and in place and won't break if you ever drop it. They ask me all the time. about my staple gun, I'll link it below. I bought it on Amazon. I love this, it's great for your craft room if you just want to be able to staple something really quickly and also link the staples together, they come with different sizes. and how do I get the correct staple size, I just bring it up to the actual product just to make sure it's the right size, then I'm going to take some white paint and some water in a cup and I'm just going to whiten My really nice background to this project I think has a really cool layering feel to it so I'm going to come back with that black and brown wood stain that I did earlier to show you everything that you can create with paint and then you're just going to go through your heart now you'll see that when I was lifting it up I actually had a thumb painted white, you can see it right there sweetheart, sometimes that happens when you touch things and it's okay.
We're going to cover it with a bow and a few seconds here in this project, but go ahead and go over the whole heart with that wood stain that we created and then once you have all the sides covered and the top covered. You're going to let it sit aside and let it dry for a few moments. Now I wanted to create a weathered beech wood look for it, so I'm going to grab some light gray. This was a clay gray that I used. Picked up from Walmart and then you're going to run a slightly dry brush all over it just to wear it down a little bit more and create a more beachy weather feel.
You could paint this wood any color you want if you really wanted to. traditional, you can do pink and red, it's up to you as an artist to be able to play with colors. A couple of people have told me why there is so much farmhouse look in my projects and it's actually what's hot right now. I have some others. projects that are coming up in the future that won't be as rustic, so to support our heart in the middle, then you're going to take another one of these painter's sticks, you're going to staple it with a little bit of hot glue as well and then you're going to put your heart directly on it and I want to make sure this actually fits right so first I'm going to put some hot glue on it and this heart is going to cover those seams where we joined them. painter's sticks and then you're going to take your staple gun and you're going to staple it on the sides where the arch is going to cover them, so I'm using three staples, one in the center where the middle is. part is and two on the other side and then this bow will go directly over it so you don't even see those staples anymore and it has a very clean finish now that so many people are asking me where it is The video of the bow is coming.
I promise I'll post it. I think it's February 10th. It's Monday, so stay tuned. This next craft is probably the one I'm most excited to share with all of you. I don't know if any of you have been to Disneyland before and walked down Main Street, but there is a little shop where you can get hand cut out silhouettes and they charge a fortune for them. I love doing them. I've been making them for years and people always ask me how I know how to make them and I'm going to show you my secret trick on how to make them so first you saw me taking a photo of my son and you want to make sure the photo is on a white background, you can see here my printer was actually almost editing, so ignore that part of the real life people, but you're going to have them facing away from the camera, have them stand up straight and tall and make them look comfortable. position, but still, when you get a good silhouette photo of him, then you'll take your photo, print it just like you saw me do, and then just crop all those photos once you have them. all cut out, you're going to take any cardstock you want for Valentine's Day.
I decided to use pink and blue because I thought it would look really pretty displayed in our house and then you're just going to trace them now, I think. It's important to note that the best results are to make sure you print on photo paper because it makes a great template when you're trying to trace on a piece of cardstock and then using a small pair of scissors works best so you can cut everything out. These little details on the silhouette take your time, don't rush, I think it's one of the most important steps I can share because you don't want to accidentally cut your nose or lip once you've cut it all out, just check it a little to make sure make sure there aren't any spots that you missed with the pencil lines and then you're going to take that picture frame and you're going to take it apart because If you want to get that little paper ad that's inside, you're going to place it on a piece of cardstock to make sure of having the correct white cardstock with the size and then you're going to cut it out and once you've got everything figured out, then you're going to use adhesive and technically you could use hot glue if you don't have craft adhesive, like I'm going to use my tape gun you'll see here and I love this, I use it all the time when I'm crafting, but you're going to use whatever type of adhesive you have on hand and then you're just going to stick it right in the center and make sure you throw it away. on the frame so you know it's nice and centered, not crooked or anything weird, and then you'll just put everything back into place.
Our first project will include these hearts, this free printable that I have. Here for you are links below and a wreath you probably already have on hand. You'll take that free printable printout, glue two pieces of foam core together, and then cut it out with an Exacto knife. I skipped the sample. stuff just because I thought most of you will be able to figure out how to do it real quick and then I took some twine and glued it to the back of a little printable of this cute vintage Cupid once the hot glue and twine were attached.
Instead, you'll just put that aside and take out the hearts. Next, these hearts are from the Dollar Tree and I love that they have reds and pinks right now and then you'll discover the link You need the stick, cut them to the right size so you can tuck them into a wreath shape to hold them all in your place when the hot glue is dry on the cupid, you're going to take that little one and you're I'm going to take the twine and I'm going to use it to tie it around the wreath because this is a wreath.
I'm sure you use it all year round like I do, but you want to spruce it up for Valentine's Day, go ahead and grab the twine and wrap it around. the back of the wreath and then simply tie it in place so you can take it off when the season and festivities are over. I love this idea just because if you're not big into decorating for the holidays, you don't really have to go out and buy a bunch of stuff, just take a little picture of something that's for the holidays and some really little hearts like this one and When you're done, you can take it all out once. your little cupid is tied in place take your hearts and simply push them down on your crown when it comes to putting the hearts on.
I like to mix up the pattern. I do a red than a pink. That I make red a pink that way. Don't accidentally put all the reds on one side and all the pink on one side and run out of color and then it disperses more evenly. I just think the impact of these little hearts is so cute and it really took me all over. Approximately 5 to 10 minutes to do this project. I think most of the time it was just gluing the cute little Cupid and cutting it out of the foam core. Once you have all the hearts in place, you will take some ribbon to your liking.
All of these tapes came from the Dollar Tree. Put some twine on the back so you can place them under the Cupid and then you can tie them to the wreath as well. Now you don't have to add this tape if so. It's still too much for you and you like to keep it really simple with Cupid on the hearts or if you like to just have the hearts, that's fine too. That's the great thing about decorating for the holidays, you can make it your own and you can add as much or as little as you want, we will use foam core, a 12 by 12 frame and these hearts.
Now I bought them at Hobby Lobby, as well as the frame, I ended up using a coupon and bought them. everything really cheap, the frame ended up being or the canvas frame ended up costing about two dollars and the hearts ended up costing about a piece of foam cord to fit the back of that twelve by twelve wooden frame once you have it. That's all clear now, you're going to go ahead and place them on top of each other, don't glue them yet, place them on top of each other with the ruler and if not, you're going to do freehand X's and O's now.
I'm not comfortable doing this freehand, you can always use a stencil, you can always use a stamp, but I felt pretty comfortable doing it by hand, so you'll see me do it here first with pencil and then I'll go over it with a Sharpie marker. I feel likethis is the best way to be able to get the desired look and using a ruler really helps me keep my line straight without them going crooked and crazy now while that's out of the way I'm going to go ahead and paint my frame one color very nice, pretty, slate type, clay gray color and I just gave it one coat because I wanted to make sure the wood still stood out, and then I took one of those hearts and I'm going to Go ahead and paint that a very light pink.
I thought it would look great with the clay gray color I'm using in the frame. Then when I let them dry, I'm ready to go back and start putting this one together. It goes fast, I had a lot of fun doing it and I think anyone who is comfortable with his lyrics would be a good person to do it. When we go to the heart, we want to make sure we hit it right in place. where we left out an X and an O, you can see I didn't do them right there and I did it on purpose.
You don't want to make two when you're doing that row and then just stick the frame in and you're done. Made for our next project, we will be using these wooden hearts that you can pick up at Dollar Tree, collect as many as you need to create silhouettes for each of your children and you can even make this for your furry pets. for your fur babies, I think this is so cute. In fact, I want to do two more for our cat and dog and Niall commentary. I thought it would be so cute now, if you remember last week I showed everyone how to create a silhouette. have a side profile photo of your child make it on a white background cut it out with photo paper you want it to be on photo paper and then you will trace it on whatever you want and then you will cut it out so here with the silhouettes I made last week last, but today we are going to use this silhouette that we cut out last week and now we are going to trace it on these hearts that I painted slate gray, take your time to trace them, but Photo paper is really great to use when you do these types of projects simply because it makes it a good template to follow without the paper moving or bunching up once you have traced your silhouette, then you will continue.
Grab some paint with a small brush that you feel comfortable with and then you'll take your time painting up to the pencil line, filling everything in with white paint again. This is the best thing you can give. someone as a gift like a grandparent if you have children and are looking for a unique gift or just want to put it in your own home. I love silhouettes and you know it shows. I can always say it when I am. I'm making the silhouette of which child is just because it looks like them and it's the best thing to have them hanging in your house and they're so pretty.
I don't know the elegance of a farmhouse, maybe that's what I'm looking for when I say it's pretty, so when you get to the face you can switch to a smaller brush or again, if you feel comfortable, keep working very, very gently with your brush and take your time because you don't want to accidentally make a big brush. the lip or chin looks bad, which can happen when you work on these types of projects, so you can see here that I'm really taking my time on my daughter's face because she has these cute little lips and a tiny little nose and then Once you have everything painted, I went over it a few times to make sure it was a really nice, crisp white painted job on the actual silhouette.
Here they are all painted with my three children and again I think I will return. and make them for my puppy, I'm kidding, turn them over and grab a ribbon you like. I picked up this ribbon from Joanne's after the fall sale they had when everything was ready. I love buying ribbons in bulk during the end of the holidays. seasonal sales because you can get it very cheap, very cheap, go ahead and just take a nice long ribbon and then rub it in place and up on the top, make sure you leave enough on the top and bottom to hang down and then you go to take a little bow.
I just used some rope from the Dollar Tree hot glue, placed it in place, and then added a bow. Here's the thing about this project: you don't need to have it all on one line. You can make a couple of rows if you have a lot of children and you have them hanging in a hallway, it would be very nice. I'm really torn on which is my favorite project that I did for this video today because I love all three. Of these many I took this sign now I use this a couple of days ago in another project, you may have seen it if not.
I'll link all of those videos below, but go ahead and remove the metal heart and this one. I successfully didn't tear or do anything strange to the actual sign which was great once I got it off and the tape I took some cream paint, it's a very ivory creamy color and I painted it all over the surface when it dried, I came back with some white and then started adding it with a nice dry brush effect. A dry brush effect means you don't have a ton of paint, you want to keep blotting it with a paper towel and keep adding color.
Now I know some people will say, well, I'm not good at painting and I'll say, Can I give you a pep talk? Can I tell you that every artist started somewhere, they all had the trial and error of just getting to know themselves. pink brushes, it's okay if you make a couple of mistakes, you can always paint it white and start again and that's what many artists did before they learned their personal techniques, so have fun with this, this is not one of those things in the ones you can really mess it up just keep adding layers and if you don't like it add more white and start again I will say I almost forgot to mention I took some sandpaper and messed it up a little bit. more so, the more layers and the paint you see, okay, let's move on to the flowers now because we just painted this board, it's completely dry at this point the hot glue doesn't always want to stick well paint especially if it hasn't dried for 24 hours, so what I did was I just sanded it a little bit in one place to get a jumping point so my flowers would adhere really well to the board.
I don't want anything to fall. or you have some problem so go ahead and add a good amount of hot glue and these ferns that I already have on them guys they are so beautiful there at Dollar Tree all these flowers from the Dollar Tree a tip with my roses that I like to take away the flower leaf up to the flower head and then I take a pair of pliers and bend the wire down so that the rose is facing you and not up to the sky, this really changes the effect on your projects when you are doing it, it makes things feel more lively, real and very pretty, once you have a couple of things glued together, at this point you're just going to start layering all sorts of tight spring bits and flowers.
I didn't go too crazy with the bigger things. I wanted it to be very delicate, very pretty, almost with the feeling of a wild garden. Can you believe it? These peony flowers were also from the Dollar Tree. They do not sponsor any of my videos. I'm simply impressed. away this year for your choice of flowers. I think they are really listening to their customers and their flowers are getting better and better with each season so I went ahead and added some ferns and when I put this one in the middle I doubled it up. to make it look more 3D and appear like a garden should look, I think that's one of the mistakes that sometimes people can make is just putting things in and gluing them together, making sure you bend the wires and bring them to life. around and play with them to make them look like real garden flowers.
Now comes my favorite part of this project. I have this piece of drop cloth. You can use any fabric you've earned, but I love drop cloth because you get a lot for your money and pick it up at a hardware store. I folded one piece over the back, hot glued it and then put a small flap on the front and made sure it was frayed. I pulled out some of the fibers so that it looked a little tattered, this is going to represent like a bag of potatoes or, you know, even like a paper wrapped around some flowers.
I thought it looked really cute doing it this way and then to make sure it was a little puffy I took a napkin and just stuck it in there and made sure I liked the look of it and started bunching up the fabric to manipulate it and then I took some twine and wrapped it around the bag and then tied a cute little bow now we can leave it here. At this point, because this looks so pretty or we can keep moving forward and that's the fun thing about creating, you can keep customizing it and changing it, so I'm going to show you how you can stop it here, this is very pretty, right?
This is the cutest thing to put in our homes or you can add some hardware on top, so I bought this little handle from Home Depot a while ago. It's on all its little handles and knobs and I think it was worth about a dollar. 50 I think that's what it was. First I'm going to add a little bit of e6000, you'll see how I sanded it a little too so it sticks to the actual board and then on the back of the handle I'm just going to put a couple of dots of hot glue on while I wait for it to dry the e6000, it'll hold it in place and this won't move, it'll stay there just fine, so see how this little metal just adds a little bit more, now we can stop there. or we can continue, which is what I'm going to do.
I have decided to use a very beautiful hem line that I love and that we sing in church, which is love that is spoken here. I just loved it and then at the end. To seal it all I use a little more Mod Podge and now we are done, our next crab. I used to do similar things like this. I know I said I really loved it and was excited to show off those silhouettes, but I love this one. I'm so excited you'll need some matchbooks, some ribbon of your liking, a foam core board and then some scrapbooking paper again of your liking.
Once you have all of those supplies in hand, you're going to take 14 boxes and throw away all the matches that are inside them. I picked up those matchsticks from the Dollar Tree and then you're going to take some foam core board and you're going to cut them to these sizes that you're going to I need this to be a really fun project, it might take a little time because you're going to have to do a lot of gluing with paper, but If you are already a paper lover, this is totally the project for you. and the end result is so stinky and beautiful and cute to give to someone or display in your home, so it's going to take exactly the same size of cardstock to cover that foam cord board because we don't want to make it just that plain board, it's It looks really pretty when we layer it with really pretty paper and then you turn it over to the other side and before you put any more paper on, you take a little bit of tape. like you're seeing me do here and I think this ribbon is about four inches long, you don't have to make it that long, but I just like to make sure that nothing comes off, things stay in place and you're going to just stick your four ribbons together. and you'll notice how the boards of my phone cables have a gap between them because if they're too close to each other, you're going to have a problem when you try to close this because we're making a little book spine, once you get that tape in place and check that you can fold it well without having any problems, then you will go ahead and open it again and use the same thing. the size of those pieces of telephone wire and you're going to put a little more paper at this point.
I'm using my hot glue gun because I want you to see that you can use hot glue with these types of projects that I've known in the past. Nowadays where I used to be in the scrapbooking industry no one would want me to use anything other than acid free masking tape and I loved it it was a great product but realistically you can use hot glue or you can use Elmer's glue whenever you want. When you're doing that kind of thing, it's over time that you can sometimes see those signs of glue I don't know about in your photos, which is why Booker's Scrap doesn't like to use anything that has something on it that I can't remember . what it was called, but anyway like a NASA t-tape, so go ahead and tape all the paper to the spine of the book and then at that point you're going to take two smaller pieces, just by a hair, so that see that nice cream colored border. around and you are going to place some tape and hot glue on the cover, now turn it inside out and you will discover its location with all your little matchboxes.
I think I love these little things. There are really cute little boxes and you can put so many things inside them that are just cute little gifts or little sayings or I don't know, just things that would make someone feel special before Valentine's Day and you can do this too. for someone for their birthday you can make even more matchboxes and a countdown to their birthday you would just have to work out the dimensions of the box so I might make another one in the future if all you girls are interested and see one made in a larger size. setup for a birthday, then you're going to take some tape, open the box and glue the two ends together because we want to be able to create a little mini tab so we can open the box, so put that on. a small drop of glue just inside, push it down, now you can open the box withoutno problem.
Once you've finished all the boxes, you're going to take whatever pattern paper you want or cardstock and then I'm just going to simply wrap it around the box and we're going to hot glue everything into place. This is probably the most time consuming part just because there is a lot of gluing and cutting, but again, if you are a paper crafter like I said, this is the project for you. These are so much fun to make once all your boxes are covered with patterned paper or cardstock, then you'll start gluing them back into place like you discovered before and then make sure you take your time gluing them.
Because you are working with paper, once it falls, if you try to pick it up again, it will just tear the paper and it will be a big heartbreak. Things like this have happened to me before, so I always like to double check. Make sure things are in place before you start gluing them. Then when you close the book, you can see that everything fits very well here and this is the reason why I give you the measurements because I don't want them all. To try and work on figuring out the measurements, so I'll also have a supply list below with all the measurements and all the things I've used.
I try to put links, if I can find them, to certain stores like Dollar Tree. Sometimes it's hard to find links to your store, but I always try to put links up, so be sure to check out the supply lists below in the description box to spruce up the spine a little. I just got a little poke in the heart and I went up the spine and just decorated it with a little bit of a cute pink heart and now I'm going to grab my stickers from the Dollar Tree. These are the smallest sticker sources they have and now I'm just going to number all the boxes.
The stickers do not have the best adhesive on the back. I love them and I think the bear is the cutest font, but over time I have noticed that if they are not sealed in a project they can sometimes come unstuck, so my vice is once you. To get all the stickers in place, you'll want to make sure you find a way to put them there permanently. You could use a little glue under them, but I think it's too much work, so what I do. What I do is I just like to take a little bit of Mod Podge and you'll see me do that in a minute, where I just lightly go over them, not taking it, just tapping it to keep it there for the long term. trick with these little letter stickers, sometimes they are a little hard to handle, especially in tight spaces.
I like to place them on a ruler slightly on their ends and then set them in place, so here I am with the Mod Podge. Look, I'm just tapping lightly adding a little bit on top to seal it to the paper and make it look complete. Now let's go back to the front and embellish the cover. I think this is very funny. I love it. When doing this type of paper craft, you will simply take the papers you want and start layering them. I love working with twine, so I always like to wrap it around whatever I'm putting up and then tie a cute little simple knot like this. and then since it's for Valentine's Day, I thought it would be really cute to put the cover on or be mine, so here I am just picking out my letters and putting them in so this whole thing only cost me about $7 because I had a lot of scrapbook paper It's on hand, so if you have to buy the paper, you may have to pay a little more, but many of us already have this type of paper on hand.
The next project I'm going to work on is some ribbon and flowers that I found after the Christmas season, they are now sold in pink throughout the Christmas season and it's usually a frosty pink flower covered in snow, which it is what they are. These things were $19.99 and I bought them for 288 a pack, which was just crazy, so I ended up saving a lot of money to create a shape that would stay on
budget
. I like to take some foam core. I'll use a pizza pan of some kind and you can pick them up at Dollar Tree and then make a big circle. and the circle doesn't have to be perfect. You can see I'm cutting it crookedly. Here I'm just showing you the quick circles are all you really need and then you're going to cut out that line and then the inside of that line to make sure you have a nice thick frame, I cut out all the flower heads and then I also removed all the leaves because I wanted to use them too, start by taking hot glue and gluing the leaves on that circle. which we cut out earlier and then I'm just changing the direction of the leaves to make it look fuller. I'm careful not to burn my fingers on this one because I've done it a few times and then you're just going to glue them together. leaves down going around in a circle making sure everything is nice and in place and the reason you do this first instead of gluing the flowers is because it makes sure you won't miss any places you're trying out. to hide it from that white under all the flowers, once you're done everywhere, take the extra leaves that you see big white spots on and you're just going to cut them off and put them in place as well, so at this point I've covered Pretty well the circle and the flowers should cover the rest of the white.
Now I have decided to go back and forth with a white, pink and white pattern. I thought it was really pretty to do it this way so I'm putting a little glue on the green plastic part of the flower and also on some of the leaves to make sure it sticks well and I think what makes it look The beauty is that the closer these flowers are together, the better. At first glance, if you space them too far apart, they will look too spaced, so your flowers will be too close together, making sure they look nice, full and pretty.
Another tip is when you place the flowers. I probably spaced them out too because towards the end you can see here that I thought ooh, they're all too close together and that's why I have to clip things a little closer. I didn't think about spacing them all out first, which I should have done, but that's okay because again you want them to look nice and closed, so I'm just squeezing them in here towards the end, but they still look really cool and you can't even tell. If there was a problem, then you're going to take some tape on the back.
First I used a 7-8 inch strip of ribbon, positioned it, and then hot glued it to a bow with a loop of squished twine between it. It will allow you to hang it and it will look very nice on the door of your house. The next project we will work on is very nice. I'm so excited to share this one. I've seen a couple. People do a couple of similar things, but not this thing I'm doing today, so I'm going to use these very soft pink roses that they have for Dollar Tree. I was so impressed with these roses that you would also see them in other craft stores where they charge fourteen dollars for a stem, these cost one dollar.
I just can't get over them, so I'm going to remove them all from their stems and as you can see here, with a little bit of hot glue I'm hot gluing them together. between these two rows of this heart frame, once I have them all around and I used about five of the flower packets so you know when you try to buy how many flowers then I took the back of the petals and pulled them down and I hot glued them in place to make sure I didn't lose the shape of the center of the heart which really makes it look defined and beautiful.
Then I moved on to these signs now this is what I'm talking about I've seen some people using them but no one really shows you exactly what happens when you're ripping out this metal heart and I want you to see don't be afraid it's okay if this happens. You're going to go ahead and pick up this heart and when you do it will tear off part of the sign and even lose some of the overlapping slots and sometimes the heart will come out but there will be glue behind it so don't worry. I'm going to show you that it can be fixed with paint and you're also going to have it covered so it won't be a big deal.
The other thing I wanted to show is that many people are painting these lines first and the depth or depth of the groove in the piece. The overlap is not deep enough when you go over it with a normal brush, so paint it all over first. I wanted them to see that this was one of those things that I recommend painting. Don't even do the shiplap step at first because it will just be covered by regular paint, so once you have a nice thick coat of paint on all of your signs, you'll be ready to overpaint them. and putting those overlapping lines back, so here I am.
I'm going to come back with a very fine brush. Our trailer actually sent me these tiny, skinny brushes and I love them. OMG these are such great brushes! I'll link them. below if you're looking for some small paint brushes that are in a kit and then since I'm going to put these two signs together, I took a piece of foam board, cut it to size and painted that black stripe down the middle. and you'll see in a minute why I did that, so I'm going to move on to distressing these two pieces. I want it to look more like a LAPI boat and more weathered like a beach with driftwood and I'm just adding some very light drying. brushing and what that means is you take a little bit of paint and you brush it off your brush and then you keep rubbing that very light layer of paint on.
I used the dark paint first and then added some white. I went to glue them onto the foam board. I know some people are putting them together with popsicle sticks on the back and I think it looks much nicer to finish it off. Okay folks, I need some recommendations for a hot glue gun. I have been using this chintzy for all the Michaels for years and it is sticking a lot and I would like to get a better hot glue gun so leave a comment below let me know what your favorite hot glue gun is and even give me a link if you can because I just need to get a new one and it's time and I would like to get a nice one, a really nice one so if you could leave me a comment below let me know if I love your hot glue gun or not ok and Now we will put them together.
I'm going to grab this burlap ribbon that I also bought at Dollar Tree again. All of these supplies are from Dollar Tree. Can you believe it? I'm telling you that you would pay so much money for what we are going to get with the final results. Take your burlap ribbon, cut a piece and hot glue it to the back. I like to use a popsicle stick so I don't burn myself. hand because there are all kinds of little holes that the glue can go through and then put some on your sign and then leave your wreath and now you can see you can't even see those dots that went up when you were lifting that metal heart just disappeared completely now you're going to grab a pencil and this part is optional you don't have to do it but I thought it was really nice if you want to put this on a decorative shelf by the front door or even on a front door if you wanted to, I sketched the word welcome, I just took my time and now I'm going to go over with those very small and thin brushes and I'm just going to go over with a little bit of white paint and as I go over those points where the overlap you know the groove of the darker line .
I'm going to go back in with the fine brush again and make sure those lines are still there. I want to be able to keep seeing that overlapping look through the words, let's use a drawstring bag. I bought them from Target at their dollar place and then I bought these hearts from Dollar Tree and some painter's tape. This project is the easiest ever and makes such a cute gift. to give to people if you are looking for a gift for a loved one, a friend or a teacher that is different and unique but homemade and think about it so you can place your painter's tape like you saw me do here and then you go you're going to take your red paint and you're going to touch the paint so it doesn't bleed under the painter's tape, since we're working on fabric, now we're creating a grid of tic-tac-toe lines.
I'm here because this is going to be a little trip and tack game. I think this is the cutest gift ever and I'm planning on giving it to a couple of people in my personal life who I know have kids on the go. all the time it's a big distraction to have in your bag once everything is dry you'll move on and move on to the hearts. Now each bag will need five pink and five red and then you will take some. white paint for the red hearts and then with a small brush you will paint the to cover them so the letters don't come off over time my final project that I'm going to share today is with the simplest materials to make you a really cute farmhouse sign.
I'm going to take the big painter's sticks. which you can pick up at Home Depot phone cord my saw and my little miter saw box. I love this thing. I use it all the time and what you're going to do is go to the highest point of your painter's pole and then cut at that angle and you're If you're going to do this on all your pieces of wood, you want to make sure it's a good cut. at an angle because when you put them all together, it will create your frame, it will cutthose mitered edges, so you're going to need two that are sixteen by five inches long and two that are six inches long and then you're going to take some foam core and cut those same dimensions, so sixteen point five by six and once you have After cutting the foam core, you can move on to the next step, but isn't it just amazing?
I mean, we've only spent two dollars so far and you'll make the most beautiful sign when we're done and you can. customize this however you want, I mean the possibilities are endless in the fall. I made another one of these, but I made it with pumpkins. If you go back and look in my channel gallery, you'll see it and it was such. fun project, it turned out so cute. I'll link it below if you want to see it anyway, so I painted the board pink because I want it to be a very soft pink and then I'm bleaching it with a little bit of a gray tone on my wood pieces.
I'm just putting the paint on and then I take a cloth and wipe it down a little bit and then add a little bit of gray massaging it in as I wipe it again until I get that distressed beach farmhouse look that I'm going for in this frame and just distressing it with the gray paint and massaging it in. again to clean it and then once I got the desired look I was back in a second. It's time to paint the board because I wanted the pink to be really vibrant and pretty and you could do this in white, but I decided to start with a black foam core board because I have a lot of blue foam core boards that I need to start using. anyway once i painted it twice then i took some hot glue and then i just glued and cut the edges with my painter sticks to create a frame on that foam board.
Can you believe this? this was just at this point this was only two dollars because the three paints or sticks that come in the package I use for the longer pieces and the two smaller pieces came off that third piece so it's a super affordable DIY , then I'm going to grab some stickers from the Dollar Tree. I love these decals. I love this font. I'm going to write a quote that I thought would be really cute for Valentine's Day. Super simple. You are only going to discover the location you want. I've found that you can make two rows with whatever you want to put, so you can center it directly in the middle, maybe with a last name or happy
, whatever you want, but you can put two rows of letters, so I first tried putting P.S. : I love it, oh, I ran out of space, so I decided to make a heart in the middle and I'm going to say oops I you and then put a heart in the middle, you'll see me. do it here in a second, but once you have everything figured out, I like to glue it to the edge of the frame first so I don't accidentally take any of that foam core board off and then once I know my spacing, I just glue them together and then added my heart and I put a little string on it.
valentine
, whatever you want, but you can put two rows of letters, so I first tried putting P.S. : I love it, oh, I ran out of space, so I decided to make a heart in the middle and I'm going to say oops I you and then put a heart in the middle, you'll see me. do it here in a second, but once you have everything figured out, I like to glue it to the edge of the frame first so I don't accidentally take any of that foam core board off and then once I know my spacing, I just glue them together and then added my heart and I put a little string on it.I thought it would be cute to add some twine and a little bow like I said in previous videos. I love the little bows and then underneath instead of just stopping at PD. I love it. I put you in forever because I love loving my family forever and ever, for eternity, so I went ahead and put them all in too. See what I mean about how you can put two rows of words here? It's really cool, you can put a lot of things in here that could be really fun to customize these frames, then you'll go ahead and wear it down a little bit.
I love these letters, but I want it to look a little more distressed and farmhouse style. I'm going to dry brush right on top of these black stickers. It's a really simple process. You'll just take a little bit of paint, tap it on a napkin, and then keep brushing over and over again. again and starts to wear down the look. Wow, we're at the end. Thank you very much for watching today. I hope you were inspired and try some of these DIYs. Thanks for being my friends and telling us about the next episode, bye girls. craft friends
