It's time to build the picture in my mind, yeah, when I go there and look at the store that your daddy ran out of, yeah, can I stare at him? Look at that stare in the motor shop, all of that stuff is still in the parking lot, what's inside those buildings. the engine shop is still pretty much a
working agent shop what do those auto shops build? Some guy is renting that building and I think he's building engines for race cars and maybe some hot rods. t ernie or dan build hot rod engines for a while i mean i could learn he's been in all kinds of engines dan still to this day did a lot of transmission and gear
workstill does some of that man independent transmission work here and there , vintage Road Race cars or guys or whatever, so it still does some of that, what's in the rest of the build, well, that's two different buildings, so it was actually really, you know, Looking back, I mean, they had an amazing set up, you know? back in the day and you hey they had an engine shop that stood by itself and then you know the chassis fabrication shop and body shop was another building and yeah you walk in there is an office truck bay that they parked the truck in inside and they had a laundry area I mean it's a career job I mean it's this yeah you just know 1983 building yeah mid late eighties easier your stuff out there yeah basically , any late model that I felt was emotionally attached to daddy lemme take which one was really cool and which one is like give us a little yeah like yeah yeah both snowball derby cars were there the car we won with in 15 it's literally back from the race and it's got the same set of tires the way we finished the race oh neat tape still on the tire where the guys were hanging off dangling the tires at the pit stop which is really cool so basically I actually cleaned it and it's just sitting there.
haveour Winchester 400 car. I think that same car was ours. I'm sorry. of the snowball derby cars w like one of our all-american where was the all-american 400 winter and then the world crown 300 car was also the winchester 400 winter so i let you know those cars of those big wins that I thought were really cool and it was you. I know massive moments and me coming up and it meant a lot to what we had. Do you miss Supers racing? Yeah yeah I miss him so much and I really miss how we did it more than anything, it was so cool and engaging. back I didn't understand I didn't understand at the time how cool it was and what we were going through and how special some of it was, basically there was a bunch of guys from literally everyone within 15 minutes of the workshop and we just did things for our account and we didn't really ask for much help outside of them, you know, Uncle Ernie built, he helped with the motors in the parking lot, he built our own shock absorbers in the building, he installed the springs, I mean, he did. okay, which was cool and i don't feel like it until you're a part of s Something like that is really
hardto understand how cool it is and looking back how much pride you
You had a lot of pressure on yourself at those times, so you feel like maybe you didn't enjoy it as much. like you should have because you're worried about the next one and doing it yeah but at the same time to me you know you want to enjoy it and all that but at the same time only if you weren't worried about moving forward you weren't worried about doing the good and you didn't want to push yourself to be better you probably wouldn't have it's good you know so I can't fault that I wanted to push myself that was yeah that was my feeling about my last mile run to the news I didn't realize how much fun I was having and I think that's what I was.
I was working, we were working
hardand we were running all the time. when you get into about 45 late-model races, which is a lot in the fall late-model world, not for the dirt car guys, but that's what a lot of races were for, so you think you know? I know you have a long way to go, but do you think you'll never come back? I know your dad came back and raced Dirt and played and he's like I said he still does a little bit of classic racing here and there yeah some club stuff I have.
I guess you dream about it, yes I do and my dilemma is that. I love the group of guys we had that were working on our cars. You wouldn't be sitting here without a pair of them. Look, they're all within 15 minutes of you. they are friends here yeah we became friends yeah over the years so one is that and how i feel like those friendships grew over the years the other thing is the last race we ran so which is like and it was a snowball derby so it's like you go out just done with it go up top finish or try or try to go back but me I don't want to go back and do it unless I can round up some of that group to run so that's what I think now we have established that no one will let Dawson do it and if they do they will come back. that can't be too hard, yes you can get the gang back.
I never wanted to compete in something like that while still in a cup because there are so many responsibilities and yes, a bit of free time. you didn't want to you're resting and you're right yeah but like once i retired now i just show up somewhere where there's something and that's the quandary i get myself into as you know like a lot of the guys go and they run races alright but those guys are devoting their time to their duties on the nascar side they just show up and race i mean i doubt there is work on the cars and anything involved but it's an everyday thing isn't it?
Was it something everyday when we competed? I felt like it was and I want to get involved that's what you want to be I want to get involved like this and I really don't know if I'm with you I'm not sure I want to spend that amount of time and I don't even know I have enough free time to spend that amount of time with you, so it's hard when you do it though you should get back in the race under your real name yeah yeah that's right i'd buy that shirt if you got proud one day. buy it tomorrow well well i don't have to push that now we learned this only today by the way if you go home and Wikipedia and we learn a lot that's what I should do I should spend more time with Wikipedia but but me me we Everyone agrees that Claude Le it's a great night of racing.
I'm not in McCloud Circle, oh you're not. play video games, yeah yeah, when did that start? well I've always played, I mean, I played a lot like high school and stuff, and kind of drifted away from that. I thought so, and here lately. I don't know, probably last year or maybe two with which friend got you high again. I don't know if it wasn't boys, no, I don't think it was anything in particular. There you gonna be a Dawsonville boy cause he's agnostic he said it for the right of spirit
