Enough talking, let's get started. You're all good, so for the first project I'm going to use four of these little cubes that are in the st. St. Patrick's Day section right now at Dollar Tree and they come in a set of five, but I'm only going to use four and I'm also going to need a set of these little burner covers from Dollar Tree.

I'll be using one, but I'll be using this one on another project today, so for that I'm going to put the larger one here on the side because we're going to start just with the small one, today I'm also using my shirt glue gun or this glue gun It's my big glue gun, I think it's like the industrial type, but I have to use the big one because today I'm also using heavy duty sticks, this is the really industrial glue and I want to make sure my pieces stay nice and tight, but as a backup I'm going to go ahead and double glue this with six mil as well so the first thing we want to do is remove these little pieces that just fit together and it's young this project is so easy it's not even fun but you'll never believe how nice it looks when we're done, so let's flip the burner cover to the bottom.

Here I'm going to grab a little bit of e6000, make sure your glue stick is pushed down really well, okay, now it's time to paint this puppy because today I'm going for that chalk painted look. I'm going to use Brust oleum chalk paint and this is clear spray paint for the eyes and I'm using the linen white color, so I'm going to run out and give it a good coat of paint and come right back while we draw our first project. I'm going to go ahead and get started. our second project and for this project we are going to need the large burner cover.
We're also going to need this vase. This one was with the flower section that you know at Dollar Tree, where the silk flowers and those shells and stones and all that. where I found this piece, so we're going to take this piece and we're just going to flip it. I'm going to use a little bit of our East 6000 again along the edge and then I'm going to put my hot glue on. in the center here and again I am using the hard Bhandar sticks, now let's try to find the center. You should measure this before you start.
It's pretty good, just push it down and there we have another cake stand, now the painting technique. The one I'm going to use on this one is super cool, but I'm going to let it dry a little bit before I start painting and in the meantime, we'll go ahead and glue on our third and final project. So for this project I have my plate that I picked up from the Dollar Tree. Let's get rid of this tag. Here now I also picked up this glass from the glass section. I think it's supposed to be a glass, no. no why are they making this so hard this is the bottom so it's really no big deal okay and for this project we're going to use the same glove technique we used with the first two but this is what this plate will look like Cake. like on that cute one now you can also flip it over like this and then shape it into a mushroom shape and you could put a smaller six inch cake on this one, but I'm going to flip it over and use this one now for This one you could use it too, like a tin can of cornbread or a pizza pan.
You could use a lot of different things, but unfortunately you could even use one of these, but unfortunately my Dollar Tree was out of all of them, so I turned to the plate again. I'm going to double glue here with my hot glue and my e6000 and this is how I measure. Just like an eyeball. I know it's a terrible, terrible habit. Well, while I have this turned, I'm going to take. a little bit of my hot glue and just go over the edge here just to give it a little bit of extra security. Okay, now again, the painting technique that I'm going to use for this one, don't worry about what the inside looks like because I'm going to paint this and bake the paint, so I'm going to give these three a few minutes to cool and set. dry completely before you start painting them because I don't want them to fall apart, so let's leave it.
Just a few minutes, okay, so now that we've let the glue cool for a moment, I'm going to use Waverly, a chalk paint on the colored gesso to paint our second project. Now I went back and added some. of hot glue around the bottom of this just to reinforce this and I'm just using some short handled foam brushes that I bought at Walmart. I'm going to start with the inside part with the bottom popped out and I really love this. plaster color let's go for that look Rea done and this is a great color for that, so I'm going to leave this straw and then I'll come back and put a second coat on it, okay, for the next project.
I'm going to use two colors of Apple Barrel Multi-Surface Paint that I bought at Walmart. I'm going to use dark granite and also timeless gray. I want to do kind of a medium color for the base coat because I want to come back with a little bit of each color, so for the base coat I'm just going to mix these two colors halfway and I'm just going to use one of my short stubby little brushes. from Apple Barrel. You better catch me. a piece of meat, so I'll turn it over and paint the background first. Well, that's the first layer on my three plates.
I'm going to go ahead and let all three dry and that's it. go ahead and I'll put a second layer off camera and when I come back we'll be ready to start our painting and distressing techniques so paint well everyone so I let all my cake plates dry overnight and I'm I love the way they all look standing here together, but I want to take it up a notch now that this one is practically finished. I took some 320 grit sandpaper and just smoothed the edges so it was a nice smooth surface. Because I used the chalk paint to paint Waverly here, I'm going to add a decal to this and this will be my Ray.
Now, I'm going to take this one and make it look like wood, then this will turn out. simply adorable. I'm going to move this one out of the way so it looks like our wooden cake stand from Pinterest. I'm going to add some colors, so I'm going to use some Waverly chalk paint on gesso and you really don't need much and I also want to use some browns, this is the coffee bean folk art color and I'm going to use a little bit of black, not a lot just a little bit so we have one of my little wet sponge brushes here and I just want to give it a wood look but it's old antique wood so I'm just going to put a little bit and rub it into place we just want make it a little dirty now my sponge brush is a little wet now I want to take some of that whitish wavy paint that I used to paint this stand I just want to blend that I don't really want to have a lot of contrast I just want a little bit don't forget the size of your plate It's also okay and to finish we're just going to put a little bit of black, you don't want too much we just want a little bit, so I highlight if you use your finger to blend it, that will help it not be such a dark contrast, okay?
I'll be totally honest, I'm not researching the path. that this looks, so I'm going to go back and paint a little bit more white here. I don't know that you see it much. Well, I think this looks much better. I really loved the way it turned out. I think adding the white on top to mix all the colors together was totally the way to go so I'm going to move this one to the side and we'll do this one next okay so let's move on to the galvanized cake stand next now I'll come back with my two colors and this time I will use them directly, the darkest and the lightest.
Remember we mixed the two together to get this color and I'm just going to Use my same little stubby brushes here and I'm going to start with the top first and then when I'm done with the top I'm going to bake it because the nice thing about this multi surface paint is that it's for indoors and outdoors, but it's also dishwasher safe, so whenever you bake it at three, you bake it at 350 for 30 minutes, so I'm going to paint the top first and then I'm going to bake it and then I'm going to come back and do the rest of the dish like this. that we're going to take a little bit of this color and I want to drop the brush.
My brush is wet, but I'm just going to take the corners of my brush and remove most of that paint. I know. It's looking a little weird right now, but hold on to the horses, it'll get there just fine, so now I'm going to take the same brush and I'm going to choose the darker color and we're going to do the same thing with the darker color and then I'm going to go and put some of each color and then I'm going to start working these two together, which is why I like to use these little short brushes because you can twist them around in your hand and make sure everything's right. mixed well now it looks a little weird at the moment, but once all the colors come together, they come together and look so cool.
Okay, now that this is ready, let's put this in a cookie tin and I'll bake it. a cold oven at 350 degrees now don't MIT don't heat your oven don't preheat your oven because you want your glass to heat up slowly with your oven so make sure you put it in a cold oven set to 350 degrees and when we come back I will have the top and bottom list, okay? I fully admit that I had a bonding moment. I had a glitch on Pinterest because I wasn't thinking because I used hot glue and e6000 to stick this on. but the good news is that it didn't fall apart but it did drip hot glue on me so when you make yours I would advise you to just paint the pieces separately and then glue them together when they are dry, don't be like me but anyway I loves. the way it's turning out so I'm going to flip it over and paint the bottom and I'll be back in just a second so I went ahead and sprayed the top of this cake plate with my sealer and this.
It's the triple or double thickness sealant, the Krylon double sealant and I promise you the craft gods are just not with me today because can you see this? When I went out to spray, I have sand in my project that lives on the beach sometimes it doesn't have its privileges, especially when you're trying to do crafts, but don't worry, I'm just going to move on. I mean, if it bothers me too much, I could sand it off and try to respray it when we're not. I get crazy winds, but it doesn't really bother me, so this is the decal we're going to put on it and I decided to put my crayon sealer on before I put my decal on.
I want to be able to change it for the seasons or holidays or whatever, you know, just because, yeah, if I use that removable end it's going to be easy to do and it's already sealed so it should come off of there when I want to change it, so I decided use today is cheat day and for Easter, they make one of the cute Easter sayings, well there it is now. I admit that using just one of the burner covers, it is a little flimsier than I thought, so if you plan on using this for an actual cake.
You might want to double up on the burner caps, but yeah, I really love it. I'm not going to use mine to display the cake. I'm just going to use it, you know, to put it in my kitchen. and yeah, I think I love the way it turned out, so we have two of our projects finished and now the only thing left to do is finish painting this. I admit that I had a mistake on Pinterest. I had a blonde moment. I wasn't thinking I used hot glue to double glue this so you can see I have hot glue running down the side here, but I'm going to keep painting and move on, but the good news is it didn't fall apart because my 6000 already it was set up so when you make yours just remove the hot glue or paint your pieces before gluing them so I'll finish this and when I've finished the bottom and I've baked it again.
I'll come back and we'll do it. Put them all together so you can see how they look good, so last minute I decided to add some rustaround the edges here and also under the bottom where my glue leaked out. I guess we can call this a Happy Little Accident because now it looks like a little weld of your metal. I also put a little bit around the edge so you can see it when it's sitting. Let me show you real quick how I did this. Now I took some brown. paint and it's like a rusty brown and I only need a little bit.
I just want to surround the edge here with the rust color. Make sure you go all the way through once I'm done with this, then I'll make it all one. Last time and then we'll be ready to continue. Next time I mixed some of this same rusty brown color and then a darker brown just to get an even deeper brown. I mean, it doesn't look too bad like this, but I'd just really like to add a little more color so you get the depth. You just want to put the color in first and then I'll reapply it with my little sponge brush and blend everything together.
I'm just going to take my little damp sponge brush and just blend it, just do a patting motion, you don't want to rub it, you just want to pat those colors together so they blend well and there it is. I think it looks amazing. I probably will. Go back in and rest on the bottom two, but you're done. This might be my favorite. I love it. It looks a lot like galvanized metal. It's not even funny now, although it's technically dishwasher safe. Make sure you put something in the bottom before putting food in contact with it because although it is dishwasher safe, it says it is not designed to come into contact with food now.
I'll be totally honest, I don't know if I'll actually leave anything out, but you know it's just for me and my family, but according to the manufacturer's instructions, you don't want this to come into contact with food, so just put a mat or a little bit of cleaning or something before you put your feet down, so now I'm going to put this in my cold oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes and then let it cool completely, so I'll probably put it in tonight and then I'll let it cool in the oven and then take it out in the morning and we can put together our whole little vignette.
I can't get over how adorable the cheat day cake plate is. Honestly, it looks like Ray's, but I'll change this one every season. and vacations, so now I don't stick to just one thing. If you are interested in the free SVG file I will put it in the description box or if you want to purchase your own I will put a link to my purchase in the description box for that too. Didn't everything turn out so nice? I'm very excited about this. My honey will love these things and of course Valentine's Day is perfect for cheating so this cake.
The plate is perfect, that is useful for today's video. If you enjoyed this video, be sure to give it a thumbs up because it would mean a lot to me and until next time, happy DIY everyone.
