First of all, thank you for coming. I imagine this is the last place you ever thought you'd be. Oh, never in a million years would I think this would happen. you're an independent now and you're my, we had an argument back and forth, my understanding is that you're still going to vote for a Democrat or possibly vote, you're not, you haven't become a Trump supporter or voter, right? I really don't know, I mean, frankly I don't know who my options are in the general election and I think there are absolutely some high profile contenders that I will not vote for under any circumstances, so we'll see. so tell the story for anyone who hasn't read, tell your story, yeah, so, you know, I had been going on this journey for the last six months or so, where I was really starting to feel very uncomfortable on a camera. echo that I had created for myself and I started listening to different conservative voices and they all sort of culminated when I decided to go to the Trump

in Manchester, New Hampshire last week.

I figured if there was something I couldn't think of, I couldn't think of anything bigger I could do. to get out of my very liberal echo chamber and everyone I talked to about this idea was really worried about my safety and that includes people on the left and the right, they were both really worried that I would be physically hurt right now. manifestation either by the followers or by Antipa or whoever, but I decided to go anyway and I found out that you know, hey, surprise, they are normal, average people who are really nice and welcoming, so I wrote about it and you said in one moment. you thought those people were despicable and even deplorable oh yes, absolutely.

I definitely went through a phase for probably about a year and a half where I really thought that anyone who supported President Trump was, at best, supporting racism and at worst, they themselves were downright racist, yeah. And where did that come from? I was watching a lot of MSNBC, so why did you feel uncomfortable? Well, I'm a knitter and I'm in the Knitting community and I know this sounds weird, but it's a hyper-political community right now. where they have these kind of roving gangs of social justice warriors attacking people and harassing them indiscriminately and things that you ask me to process too much, most people didn't even know there was an online fabric in the first place. community and now I am seeing weavers and traveling social groups.

Something just doesn't fit here, it's not what I expect. Well, listen, I understand the feeling because I didn't expect it either, but I started to see this happen over and over again. again and at some point I started speaking up within the knitting community and saying guys, this is wrong, we shouldn't be doing this and then they came after me and at that time I didn't get it as wrong as many others. people did, but at some point I just said I can't align myself politically with these people, it's just wrong what they're doing, you talked about how one person was bullied so badly online that they became suicidal, yeah, yeah, what, what, what are, what. were the discussions about it, in his case in particular, he started talking when the mobbing started and I swear I'm not making this up, all he did was post a poem on Instagram asking for kindness and asking people to see each other. as human beings and he was harassed by thousands and thousands of people and when they beat him up he finally went to the hospital and then her husband posted on Instagram that please stop hating that he is in the hospital and it just got worse and kept getting worse.

After that it was really a shame but luckily he seemed to have really recovered and is now getting a lot of support from people like me, who are these people that are in these traveling mobs? They are simply people. On the far left, every time something that's outside of their ideology comes to their attention, they try to pressure people to get on their knees and issue these mass apologies and, you know, point out all the areas where they're wrong in their lives. and transphobic and homophobic and fatphobic and all that stuff and they're just there. I want to be frank.

I think they are horrible, miserable people who also want to make other people miserable. You're starting to sound. as a conservative, I know because I mean this is what we've really been warning about, there are disagreements about things that we can, disagreements about policies, we can go on, but when you try to shut people up and you do. through fear and intimidation is a very foreign kind of concept to America that's not what we were that's not what made us great that's not what made us great and anyone who does it anywhere is really involved. on really dangerous things because it always ends the same I totally agree and when people started telling me to shut up specifically that's when I really started to take a look at it because for me expression is a gift that we've all been given and and if you want to change people's opinion, you have to do it through conversation, not through intimidation, so you said that the day you went to the Trump

, MSNBC was there and you wanted to go to some familiar territory first, so you went and what was your experience there that morning well, I was wearing a red hat that looks like a Trump hat that says "Make free speech again" it's my little protest against canceled culture and you know, it's always a topic of conversation and people got into conversation and I was like oh I was thinking about going to the Trump rally and they were like don't do it they're going to hurt you, they're going to harass you and one woman even offered me her pepper spray and I just said you know.

I think I'm going to be fine, everything will be fine, what was your what did you think? Because I'm sure these people were being genuine. Yeah, what was your take on that as especially someone in your profession? you look and say these people really care about my safety, they're really warning me and it's almost unhinged from reality, well yeah, and I think you know when literally everyone around you is afraid for your safety, it's very hard not to do it. He asks and says what are they seeing that I don't see, but it's also an indication that I knew I had to do it at that moment because I knew I had to see for myself what was going on.
