So this is our lovely Sicilian villa, but we have a lot to see so we have to hit the road. We have reached the base of the city. There is actually a cable car that you ride that takes you to the top and there is actually a parking lot right next to it. It's Euro 50. So it's super convenient. How much does the cable car cost? I think it's ten for the return trip. Yes. Okay, let's get our tickets to the top. It's a joke. Why does this happen to us all the time? Today is the 18th.
So we were here right at 1. And guess what, from the 18th to the 30th: closed. NOOO!!! So we'll have to try to find another way up or just drown our sorrows in

cannoli

s. A

cannoli

was waiting for us at the top. That was going to be our reward. New plan: Apparently there is a way up. It's very winding roads like this all the way, but we should be able to make it to the top. There are parking lots up there, plan B. It's going to work. It will be great. Today won't be the worst day ever.
So we are a little skeptical about this route now because we are now on dirt roads. I'm not sure if he'll just take us the quickest route. So more land will take us to this. road with a do not enter symbol. I don't think this is the right way to go, unfortunately. This is very stupid. We made it, we found parking, it was actually free and we've been walking around the city a bit, it's really beautiful. It's pretty dead today. It's Monday, although a little cold and cloudy, but that's okay. The city is still incredible. We walked into this little bakery called Maria Grammatico and it's actually Maria Grammatico's bakery.
Apparently she is perhaps the most famous pastry chef in Sicily. So we thought we couldn't go wrong by trying their delights. We are trying their cakes. Because it's our last day in Italy or the last in Sicily, we're going big. We're trying all the things we haven't tried yet, and we're starting it all off with this beauty. Can you believe it. We haven't had cannoli in Italy yet. I don't know why we've tried so many other pastries, but it's appropriate that we waited because this one is from Sicily and is very well known in this area, particularly south of Palermo. have these huge.
What are cannoli? It's this

delicious

fried cake. It is then filled with all kinds of different things, usually ricotta cheese. This one has some chocolate chips. I believe in sugar. Of course, maybe a little egg. It has a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top and it smells so good, like a freshly fried donut or something. Alright, we're done talking, okay. Yes, it's time to eat. Nice and flaky. Hmm, I think this is better than a donut. This is fucking incredible. OMG the fried dough is so crispy and so good with this like super creamy ricotta cheese.
OMG, it's so sweet. But so good. The flavors are so good because you have the cheese, you have the dough, and you have all the sugar. They match perfectly. One of my favorite desserts we've ever tried, I think Mmm-hmm. It's

delicious

. So sweet and cheesy, and because it's ricotta, it's almost a little gritty on the inside and that outside is like a cracker. The crumbly topping is so good. Oh man, the texture is amazing because it's so hard and so soft, you know, it really works well. This is what I was really excited to try. This little guy is called Genovese and it is this little pastry that has almost the consistency of a cookie.
Really, but it has powdered sugar on the outside and then a little bit of cream on the inside and I think, I'm not sure if they always have lemon, but I think this one should have a little bit of lemon on the inside. It looks like a small UFO covered in snow. Yes, it has a very funny shape. It has a lot of dust. Not as fun as that dessert we had in Matera. These two golden beauties are Tette de la Monache or the nuns' tits Yes, it's okay Oh, it's very good. The custard is very different than what I expected.
It is not very liquid. It's a little grainy, almost cannoli-like in texture, but has quite a different flavor and the outside basically tastes like a sugar cookie. It's like a sugar cookie filled with delicious custard. We were admiring some of the other cakes in the case and they have some great names. The little ones are called beautiful and ugly and there are some down there called mothers-in-law. -language of law. Maybe we should have tried that. Is this place beautiful or is it also very windy? So windy and so cold! But it's so pretty! If you go up through the park to the top, there are two different castles.
There is a beauty on this hillside over there. And then there's another one on that side. But come here to enjoy the views. The views are incredible. In the distance you can see the water there. It's incredible and I imagine that in summer it would be very nice to be up here. The wind would be refreshing. There's a really cool structure down here that's built right on this jutting rock wall and Alison was saying she looked down and said, "Oh, then someone saw that rock wall and just said, I'll put a house there." "Yeah, like, how, why...
I don't know, I don't know. Because it's beautiful. That's why. We're the only ones here. We've only seen a couple other people in town. It's been amazing. I'm not sure if everything is open today. I'm sorry if it's too windy. My microphone sounds like that in the wind, but I'm not sure if everything is open or not. But let's try to see if we can get into that castle or the castles. from there. Well, the The castle is closed. Yeah, I wanted to go in. Oh man. Look. I mean we have to go through the wind gauntlet again, buddy.
It's really windy out here. I'm having flashbacks of Etna when we tried go up there. I changed my mind. I don't want to be up here! I'm hiding from the wind. There's no wind here. But over there. There's a lot of old Michael Jackson, hey! We came to Il Carretto to eat some damn

pizza

. We We just realized that we haven't shown you any pizza here in Italy, but this is going to be amazing. We're going to get something super delicious. Sicilian pizza. However, there is a very long wait because they just opened if we are the only people here, but since we are early risers.
It's like 5:00 p.m. And no one opens until 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. Here, but a big wait requires an even bigger beer. Yes. So we are relaxing with a beer in our last hours in Italy before devouring the most delicious meals of our entire lives. Probably, maybe, hopefully This place is really cool. I think it's very local and the kitchen is open so you can see everyone there preparing the dough right now. So they're just hitting you on the back. Yes, it's almost as loud. I couldn't hear myself speak. Our pizza has arrived and it arrives just in time because we are very hungry.
It smells very good. Of course, there are a lot of different types of pizza. You can get it all over Italy and people will tell you that different cities and different regions have the best pizza. But I think it all comes down to your personal preferences. Sicily. However, it has its own type of pizza. Of course, you will have heard of Sicilian pizza. It is also very popular in the United States. We grew up with him. But I have the feeling that it is very different from what we are going to eat here. Sicilian pizza is usually a little thicker and the texture of the dough itself should be more like focaccia.
This pizza I bought is called Rianata and the reason I bought this one. It's because it's actually from this area of the Trapani area, which is a city that's right near where we are now. The key ingredient in this pizza is a bunch of oregano, so you can see all of that sprinkled throughout all that green stuff. on top. Then we're going to have pecorino cheese instead of tomato sauce. In fact, they put diced tomatoes on it and I think everything is kind of meshy and now it almost looks like sauce and there are also anchovies, something I've never tried.
I normally don't order anchovies on my pizza, but they have to be finely diced because I can't even identify them on this pizza. Honestly, I'm not sure if they use a fork and knife in Italy, but they cut the pizza into tiny squares. So I feel like the fork is the way to go. That's my piece right there from the middle. He has all the assets. What a holy cow! That's an explosion of flavor Wow, it's absolutely delicious. 100% worth the wait to be honest. I'm surprised that you get a very strong anchovy flavor there, but it's not bad at all.
They taste great and are super salty. There's a lot of oregano there. The cheese is spicy and very strong. In fact, I really like it because it adds a very intense flavor to the pizza. But the best part is that you have all these little burnt crunchy bits that just add a burst of crunchy flavor to the oven. I don't want to show you how much pizza I'm about to eat. Is it too much for one person? This is the personal ice pizza, he said it was for one person. So, you know, when I was in Italy, I guess with a local pizza that Eric has there.
But then we also chose the one that sounded best to us. , and we finish with Arava Arriba. I'm not sure how to pronounce it, but it should have tomatoes, it also has anchovies, but as you can see, they should be a little small in there or chopped peppers, garlic, pecorino cheese, olives, capers, spicy salami. and oregano, which is quite a list. I had to translate a lot of that. Maybe I'll follow your lead and go in the middle. Yeah, tell us something like Sacrilegious about going through the middle first, but I'm going to do it. Those anchovies, darling.
Very salty. It's not too fishy or anything like that, but you definitely know there are anchovies in there, but the spicy salami is fantastic, I love the taste of the olives and capers together. The cheese is very weak. Everything else takes priority. The tomato sauce is so rich and thick and then the crust, I mean, it's just perfect. It's amazing. Oh Lord. The best cannoli, the best pizzas. It was worth the wait Yes, it started out a little rough when we went down that dirt road or when the cable car was closed. In fact, we were locked in our parking lot for about half an hour and had no cash to pay. for a ticket and suddenly the doors open and we leave.
I don't know, we were very nervous. We didn't know what, a day has passed. This makes it all worth it, but that will be enough for us. We leave tomorrow. We'll fly to Paris for one night and then head to Miami! We haven't told you guys! We're going on a cruise. We're going on a cruise. Norwegian Cruise Line has a routecompletely new and a completely new ship, I think a Caribbean cruise will leave the Port of Miami. We went from cold, windy and unpleasant to the Caribbean! We'll be in swimsuits all of you. Yes, this is really cool.
Oh, you won't be impressed with our swimsuits. Definitely not me. Maybe she doesn't know, it's pizza time and then jam time and packing time. Good evening adventurers. See you on the way.
