DAYLIGHTING CALCULATION - PART 1

Jun 06, 2021
Hello good evening guys this is sum welcome back to my youtube channel so today in this video we are going to learn how to do

daylighting

calculation

in evo dialogues so i got a lot of requests on my insta feed on my linkedin and here on youtube. to do the tutorial on daylight

calculation

, so this is the first series on how to do daylight calculation. This will be my first

part

because it is a huge topic and I need to break it down into subgroups to make the point clear when I am. I'm explaining it well, so let's get started, this is the first thing and I want you to watch this tutorial in its entirety.
daylighting calculation part 1
Don't miss any of the points, so you can skip anything if you don't see it to the end. Please watch this video until the end and if you have any questions let me know in the comments okay so as always I'm not going to consider any of my pre-made projects okay so I'll do it. from the beginning, from the beginning, so when you open the dialogs you will be able to select any of these things, okay, import the floor plan or your room planning or whatever, okay, let's say I don't have any projects and I'm not going to build the room. separately, so I'm just going to do the room planning.

More Interesting Facts About,

daylighting calculation part 1...

Well, I'll set the length and width of the room, so let me take your six-by-six room with a height of three meters and a wall thickness of 0.2. You can reduce it or you can make it more right and the standard pre-set dialogues is the office, I'm not going to change it and nothing and let's do it right, so here I have a six by six room, let's keep it in the 3D model, okay? We are all ready to start the process and the first steps we need to consider to correctly perform the

daylighting

calculation, so the first step here will be to set the location, so that once you are ready to make your 3D model okay, you can continue. to the site and change the location, so here on the site, if you go down to the site alignment, you can see here by default it will take this location and you should keep your project location here, okay, say what are you doing? this project. in India so this

part

icular commercial or residential space or a project is located anywhere in India you have to mention that location here you know that's the word okay so let me consider this I'm doing in India and somewhere in New Delhi, okay, so what you have to do is go to the dropdown list and search for this place.
daylighting calculation part 1
If it is present in default setting then just select that one so here I go to new delhi so let me check if I have new delhi yes I have new delhi here okay once I check new delhi it automatically takes longitude and latitude of that place. Let's say you want some other place that's not on the list. Let me check if we have um Bangalore. or hyderabad on the list, okay, which is um in india, let's look, no, we don't have hyderabad on the list. Suppose you are doing it for hyderabad. What you can do is just go to Google and search longitude and latitude of hyderabad india so here in latitude and longitude finder okay here you can get the latitude and longitude information put those details here like in longitude you have to put this value 78.49 you can do it manually fine and even in the latitude you have to put this 17.38 here okay so you can do it manually and then you can manually put the space here like Hyderabad okay so it will be necessary there won't be much change , but now we're doing it for Delhi, so I'm leaving. to change it back to new delhi and this is my site this location is set ok now the place is set next important thing is time zone so here in India we follow Indian Standard Time, so if you are in any other corner of the world, so you will have different standards like bst and maybe some other standards, but in the time zone drop down list here, if you see that everything is in utc utc, what is this utc? so utc means universal time coordination okay so if and if you don't know what is utc time of your place just go here and type utc time okay utc time in india so here it shows me that India is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of the coordinated universal rate, it means. it is utc plus 530, okay so let's go and check if we have that utc plus 530, yes it is here you can see it here, utc plus 530, it is for Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi, you can select this one, okay , let's try. for some other place let me see utc time in Dubai okay we have utc time here 5 47 is four hours ahead of coordinated universal time so it will be utc plus four okay you can go here and check in the dropdown list if so. is that you can select it or you can enter it correctly, so these are the first very important settings that you need to do when you are doing the special daylight calculations, okay, so our location is set and our time zone is set now, the next one very important The thing is the placement of windows and doors, so in the dialogues, whatever calculation of the dialogue you are doing, it will be done only for the interiors, okay, not for the exterior part, that's why you need to place the openings.
daylighting calculation part 1
The approaches are nothing more than the doors and windows so you can Go here in this section of our purchase and you can find here some default elements of doors and windows that you can drag and drop and arrange them according to your requirements, so we will go to the view of the plane. The other important thing is when you use this default value. openings dialogs, it has the natural lighting system, so you do not need to import other external plugins to perform natural lighting operations, so it is always recommended. Okay, he's doing some project. Use doors and windows on this side.
Okay, to make it easier for you. do the daylight calculations, let's say you're just importing from 3d Warehouse or from Sketchup or placing a 3ds max file window. You have to separately import the daylight calculation system and it becomes difficult, so even if you apply the textures, it may not calculate well, so there we are. I'm going to select something here, okay, let me select this save window and I'm just going to place this one. Okay, it's on this side. Okay, we'll adjust the position. Okay, so we're going to make the windows here this full. It's this type of sliding door or what you call big windows, okay, put in the active building element, yes, we're done okay, if you want to add more windows, you can add them.
Okay, if you want some of these smaller windows, go ahead and add them. Go ahead and add it like this, okay, so you can position the windows to your requirements, we'll just adjust it so this and this are the same, okay, let's have another window here, let's see okay, and maybe a door. here then the calculation of natural lighting can be done only for the windows, not for the dome because it does not have any opening and the sun cannot enter from anywhere through it, which is an opaque substance, this is how it is done and we are going to place a rectangular floor. element let's draw it according to our plan, okay, we are done with that and we have completed all the basic steps, we have set the location, we have set the time zones, our simple 3D model is ready and the next very important step is to define the position north, okay, so if you want to know how to define the north position, just go to the display options here, you can say show no arrow and by default it has taken the direction not up, okay, it means this side will be my north, okay. suppose you want to change the direction of the node, you can simply select this one, draw not the arrow and you want it not to be on this side, just select the first point, the second point and the direction of the knot is here, so if you want to get more information about This direction, I have a separate video about this and I have shared the link of this in the description box below, you can watch it later, okay, we are done with the position of the north arrow, so this is the north and this will be the south.
Well, now the next step, very important, is the placement of the lights and how we are going to calculate the natural light. You can do natural light calculations even without installing any lighting fixtures. You can directly do the lighting calculation. Okay, the first step we are going to do is We will not put any lights inside, we will just do the daylight calculation for that one, all you need to do is turn on the light, okay, here you can find light scenes, select this one, okay, a new dialog box will appear here, it doesn't show daylight here. just select from the dropdown menu and here you can perform the daylight calculation in three different types of sky: clear sky, average sky and cloudy sky, so the first thing we do is test the clear sky.
I'll just click on this clear sky. and you may have noticed the difference in the sky. I will return without daylight. I see the sky here and now. When I'm looking at the clear sky, the sky has changed. You can then change the date and time. Okay, select from the dropdown menu. so here today shows me October 18, 2020 so it's today's date so I can do the daylight calculation in any year okay you can just click on this it will go to the number of December and 2021, okay, any date you can select of your choice, so today I am going to select today's date, which is October 18, 2020.
The date is set, so you can even change the time you have to calculate it to be 12 noon, so if we want, I can increase it. It's 1 2 or 3 p.m. m. or go down or make it 11 to 10 or anytime soon, so now that we're making a clear sky, let's go and check that it's 1 p.m. m., okay, so this is a setting for daylight calculation that we haven't placed. any artificial light inside and I have done the configuration, go to the calculation objects here, you can see the complete project, all the light sensor start calculations and it will calculate the daylight.
Yes, my daylight calculation is complete and you can see it displayed here. For me the result is fine, it has four nine two three locks and it has met the requirement, we will just close the results overview and here you can see this nice sunlight falling in, it is coming in, you can see how natural it is. Alright, you can set up the view and just render this one. We will check the thermal values. We will also look at the thermal scale here so you can incorporate this into your calculations. We have already done the calculation.
Do you know what happens with the documentation? How is? is going to scroll so let's check it out in the documentation so we clicked on the documentation and we're in the room mode summary light saying one so here it shows us the lux values and sure the most important thing you can see here is this. planning notes daylight ratio for clear sky direct sunlight on the specific date at 1 pm and most importantly indian standard time so remember i set the value in utc plus 5 30 so it took us Indian Standard Time the environmental conditions for Room 1 is clean and this is what we needed.
We wanted to do the daylight calculation based on our time zone, so that's fine, although I think you can also find the location, so this is in the documentation. We will be back. to the construction, zoom in on everything and you can see the light that's there. It is only for daylight calculation. It is only for indoors, not for outdoors. Okay, so look at the thermal, it will show up for indoors only. This is not how the natural lighting calculation is done. these are the sum of the basic settings, the first one configures the location, the second configures the time zones, the third, the openings, the windows, okay, the fourth daylight calculation configuration, so this is in the part one, series of daylighting calculations, so in our second part we are going to see how we are going to do the daylight calculation if we have our artificial lights placed here let's say, suppose I have downlights here oh, I'm going to do the calculation of natural light with those down lights, the trick is simple but we will see it in my next video until then.
