Dave Chappelle on the Jussie Smollett Incident | Netflix Is A Joke

- I'm just afraid of being attacked. It happens to the best of us. Never forget what happened to that French actor. Do you know who I'm talking about? Jussie Smollett. He is a very French and very famous French actor. (Audience laughs) Have you never heard of Jussie Smollett? (Audience laughs) Jussie Smollett is an actor from France. (Audience laughs) And he became famous on a show called Empire. One night, he was in Chicago late at night and he was the victim, (laughs) (audience laughs), he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack. You see, Jussie Smollett is (audience laughs) gay and he's black.

He not only French. (Audience laughs) Oh, that was a crazy story. Apparently, when he was walking down the street late at night, two white men came out of the shadows wearing MAGA hats and beat him up. He tied a rope around his neck, called him all kinds of blacks, put some bleach on him, and ran off into the night. (Audience laughs) The shit was like international news. And everyone was furious, especially in Hollywood. It was all over everyone's Twitter accounts and Instagram page. "Justice for Jussie!" and all this shit. (Audience laughs) The whole country was up in arms.

He was talking about it all the time on the news. And for some reason, we African Americans were strangely calm. (Audience laughs) We were so quiet about the shit that the gay community started accusing the African-American community of being homophobic for not supporting it. What they didn't understand is that we supported him with our silence. (Audience laughs) Because we understood that this black was clearly lying. (Audience applauds) None of these details added up at all. He said he was walking down a street in Chicago and some white guys came up to him and said, "Hey, aren't you that damn black from Empire?" What the fuck?

Does this sound like how white people talk? I know white people, they don't talk like that. Are you that damn black from Empire? They would never say that. Sounds like something I would say. (Audience laughs) If you're racist and homophobic you won't even know who this black guy is. You can't watch Empire. (Audience laughs) Black people never feel sorry for the police, but this time we even feel sorry for the police. Can you imagine if you were a police veteran taking this police report for kids? "Okay, Mr. Smollett, please tell me what happened? "Okay, two in the morning.

He left the house at two in the morning, "it was minus 16 degrees. (Audience laughs)" Okay. "Were you walking? You were walking. Okay. (Audience laughs) "And where were you going? "Underground?" "Sandwiches?" (Audience laughs) "Is that when the men approached you? "Did you see them? Did you have any-- "Okay, what did they have on? "MAGA hats? (Audience laughs) "MAGA hats in Chicago? "Excuse me for a second, Mr. Smollett. "Frank, come here for a second. (Audience laughs). "Find out where Kanye West was last night" (Audience laughs).
