It's going to be good, okay, thanks Dan for being with us now. My next guest got it all out of the way right now. No, I saw he was reading Time today in Time magazine, which very often, for some reason, rejects Coca-Cola. I bought it for us yes, no, no, and they liked it uh, yes, that's it, uh, that's good, it's good that the press appreciates a change, yes, what are you coming with a book tonight at what time? Uh, well, this has to be it. Do I know what it's about? This basically has to do with my proposal to the American Society for Psychic Research now in the movie Ghostbusters.

More Interesting Facts About,

dan aykroyd and bill murray make their first appearance and talk ghostbusters carson tonight show...

We deal especially with ghosts, apparitions and all these things that many of you may not believe at all, but there is actually a group in New York that takes all of this very seriously and this is

their

diary. Here I have a photo of my grandfather. Come on, are you putting me on? Take a look at this. this is this is very good this is very strange uh this is your grandfather he was grandfather he was a psychic a medium he corresponded with bertrand russell and this photo was taken at his desk in uh in uh Canada and you see these heads that appear around him , they are completely, you know, inexplicable, he would not have faked this because he was a very, very astute man and very, very serious about this kind of work and I found the photo for sure, one of the ones who took the photo the the photo was taken by a friend of his a friend of his and his grandfather now is uh he that is uh that is uh yes his grandfather is downstairs in the one below he is the one below and the guy in the uh in uh like to our left there is like the adversity of the dutch masters are you sure he is not the dutch cigar master and he had a box of cigars behind him?

Absolutely yes, I have to play the devil's ad, well, well, in this today, now, well, I know, I know and You know I'm taking a risk, but you can see that the eyes and the other characters are very, very black and these heads did not appear, of course, in the original negative. It was only after the image became a print that these heads appeared, they entered the photograph anyway now, but I don't want to bring this down, dan, but, isn't it possible with photography you know, it's a trick, but at the time it was taken, which was around 1909, it would have been difficult to put other overlays in the emulsion, of course, you can argue that of course it's all fake, but these people in New York treat it very seriously psychic phenomenon and I will tell you how seriously they are doing it.

I'm going to read some of the titles here from the quarterly magazine of the American Society for Psychical Research. The

first

item is the sensory contamination of free response, esp. points to the greasy fingers hypothesis here's another hypnagogic fantasy EEG and psy performance in one topic uh they take this very seriously I can say that uh and we have another one here adventures in immortality look beyond the threshold of death in any case They have a great library in New York City. They are running out of money. You may be wondering why. And they need funds to maintain the library.
Are you serious. Well, I think there is a basis. I actually had an interesting experience. In New York City, when I worked on Saturday Night Live, we were on the eighth floor of NBC, you know the studio well there. I entered the

first

floor and entered the elevator with a lady. We enter the elevator. I was. going eight she pressed eight I pressed two she came out on two and I went up to the eighth floor and I realized hey, I pressed her floor she pressed mine here we were in this confined space and what happened was probably just a you know a cross circuit between uh you know between our minds and uh it could have been a coincidence couldn't we both have pressed the wrong floor?
I'm serious, the fact that she pressed mine and I pressed hers uh dio It made me think that maybe a special experience had happened there, there is a very famous book that was written about the ghost of flight 401, I didn't I know, hey, everyone knows, yes, the ghost of flight 401 was referring to the crash. of an Eastern Airlines L-1011 um, they went around in a swamp, the autopilot went out and Eastern Airlines salvaged all the pieces from this particular accident and about two months after this accident, the galley elevator broke down in another I-1011 from the east.
The airlines took the galley elevator from the accident and put it on this other plane and about two or three weeks after they did it, events started happening, stewardesses, pilots and passengers started seeing the

appearance

of the torso complete with a pilot with stripes, a hat and everything and uh. It got so bad that it got to the point where Eastern Airlines had to issue a directive saying, "Don't

talk

about this, yeah," and it finally got to the point where they have a blanket policy of not using Rex parts and this. It's, you know, documented and if you go up to an Eastern Airlines pilot and say, have you seen Don Repo lately? you will get a very strange look, this, I won't do that, no, this is the don repo guy, apparently he had a name and was identified by the pilots even after the death outside of the lady in the elevator, have you had any other meaningful experience like that?
I had a dream before my maternal grandfather died he was very uh no, this is a paternal great-grandfather I had a dream that he was waving goodbye to me and the next day he received a telegram saying that he was dead and that he was, there was no no prior warning, he was healthy and he died very suddenly, you know, at 83 years old and uh, I imagine there's something to this, I don't know, I'm sure if you polled people in the public to find someone who really had a paranormal experience, yes, but in Ghostbusters, we people treat everything very lightly, lots of laughs and all the visual effects and everything is there to

make

you laugh, so, okay, you know, we'll do this and We'll be back for another one, the phantom parasite, yeah boy, I'll tell you.
Those guys can't play anything, huh, you

talk

about not being strict or something, you know, you play the drums like me. Do you ever want to travel with a band? Well, I had a little experience, of course, with the blues brothers. We took it on tour and played around with some fun, yeah, Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn and all, but wow, we really enjoyed it, that was great, yeah, should we get your countryman in this photo? Hey, why not? Bill, of course. Phil has done some really fun pictures, meatballs, caddyshack stripes and he also co-stars and really carries the ball on this one, we designed and structured this movie for him, it's great, he's getting the best reviews of his career, Mr.
Bill Murray, do you? TRUE? Okay, you heard what the man said, yeah, I gave you the full picture, that's right, he's a coward, he's a coward, yeah, it was a tough job because Harold and Dan wrote the script and basically said, Why did Bill it do not says that? they give you so they gave me all the lines and I end up looking like an asshole saying things like well guys, let's go for an hour and 45 minutes, would you say that? Well, well, I had some practice. You know, none of us. I really got to know myself.
I saw Dan a couple of years ago at the Oscars. I don't think we met until tonight in the hallway. Didn't we make eye contact once? Oh, well, I mean, where was there a uh a? uh a dinner for uh frank price, a dinner industry pioneer and you were the emcee and you were tremendously funny, thank you, really evil in person, you should see this guy in person. I couldn't believe some of the wonderful things you were. saying about some of the most horrible people in the world, it was just fantastic, you were in the day for a second, weren't you okay?
You say it so grandly, but the dance was about 275 people and actually there were about 100 maybe 150 people and they introduced people like they were introducing the entire Rams team and it was like running and then you had to sit down there, there were three rows of people along the stage eating in front of like 1500 people and you were sitting there, there were some jokes and YouTube jokes and you introduced people and then it was time to eat, yeah, so you were sitting eating and you looked and there was like a whole table full of people still looking.
You and them go, honey, look, he's using a fork in his jello, yeah, and you always get one of these, you're just trying, yeah, it's like they stick you in, yeah, you don't like crowds, I guess, Well, crowds are, uh, I heard a good thing about crowds once, if you imagine you're way up there, like on the Empire State Building, then it doesn't bother you as much, it seems, but if you're down there biting

their

ankles, that It can be, yes, someone once. He said pretend the audience is sitting there in his underwear, well a lot of people out there said sorry put your clothes on guys uh yeah that guy is doing time right now Dan seems to be caught up in the mess of Dan, Tanzania, yes.
This is very serious, yes, we would be working and he would be talking about this stuff and taking pictures of his great-grandfather and all that kind of stuff, but I have seen a ghost and I have talked about this. publicly and i haven't often heard you talk about it have you seen a ghost yes, i saw a ghost there is a restaurant we worked at in this thing in new york called the tavern on the green for sure and there is a ghost there and it's a guy, It's a waiter, he comes up and goes over everything, plays it back perfectly clear, says you know, tells you what the special is and then takes your order and then disappears, I know that's it, yeah, that's it.
Raúl's ghost Yes, I had it last week. Do we have a clip of what these guys are doing in this photo? I guess we will. We'd better or we'll have to read aloud. Yes, I can't go. Don't try one of those I love you I love your great-grandfather Dan but uh uh does this either they don't say a setup yeah this needs a setup um I guess I have to do this again uh okay you can split any of these well this one is, what clip is it, is it the, oh yeah, this will

show

you how seriously we take all this ghost stuff, i.e. ghostbusters, uh, dan and harold ramus, i play a parapsychologist who gets expelled from college and He is dedicated to his own business.
Capturing ghosts and Dan and Harold designed this highly sophisticated equipment, but there's no real market because not many people are willing to admit that they have ghosts, but we finally get a call and we go to a hotel in New York and, but... We never I've really used none of this equipment before, we don't really know what's going on, so this is the first take, so this is really the first time, okay, there's a clip on that Ghostbusters thing that you're going to give, eh, Well. guys, come on with 10 seconds, you should be ashamed of yourselves, okay, relax, hey, like pay five bucks and watch the movie, come on, this is free for nothing, that's right, I have a really good photo of Dan. a fan club photo, let me hold down, she will send it to all the young girls, this is a sweet photo, it's a sweet photo, I'll tell you what it was, um, please, yes, does it have any explanation, ah, the fact of the matter.
In making these movies, we had a lot of mechanical effects on set and they use air cannons, pressurized tanks of air at 200 pounds per square inch to get reactions out of us and that was me getting hit in the face with an air. cannon, yeah, and I bought one of those air cannons and took it home just for personal thrills, a lonely Friday night is going to be, uh, what is Fred pointing out? Freight transportation is one of the big indicators in our business, uh, we'll do this, we'll do it, I'll be right back, stay where you are.
