Carmen's Curious Tutorial: Clay Heart PinFeb 23, 2022
good morning guys today we are going to make these cute pens out of
claywe are quick simple easy you can decorate them any way you want but let's get started and see what you can come up with ok so the first thing you want to do is decide what kind of shape you want to make. I wanted to make
hearts because Valentine's is going to be released though it might be a long time by the time you see this so I'm making this
heartshape so design your heart shape and then what I made is a thick cardboard.
I cut out my shape so I knew what I was going to use. You could use a cookie cutter but I couldn't find one exactly how I want it today and then what you're going to do is also cut out a back part so that after you've traced this you can trace this onto another piece of cardboard and cut out a bunch of these for the back so all I'm going to do first is roll out some of my
clayand this is paper clay and I'm using IOD paper clay. I really like it a lot, but you can play in your craft workshop. p if you don't have paper peyote clay and this will read around 1/4 inch thick you don't want it too thin on this project so all I'm going to do is take my stencil and put it on top and use my exact and cut around and as you can see I have a cutting board under it with the piece of freezer paper the cutting board is so it doesn't cut through my table and the freezer paper is so my clay will stick good enough but it comes off very easily so the next stage will just use my aleene's tacky glue and stick this here so i'm just going to use the aliens tacky glue and you can put it on your heart or on your cardboard a cardboard earlier would have been easier then make sure you have it facing the right direction on the cardboard either it has to go back and forth this will shrink a bit anyway so after it dries , then you're just going to trim off the excess cardboard but this just gives you a little bit more stable backing on the back because clay can be brittle so we're going to dry it out and we're going to continue so when your hearts are dry like I said you can trim these edges off the excess paper and then what I'm going to do is take my sanding block and sand it down very carefully. kinda it doesn't have to be perfect it still has some dimension having it on the cardboard will make it curl up so much too there we go let's decorate so on this and then once I did it I used the midnight garden because I've had wonderful little flowers that I could use in this project, but you can use something big like a charm or whatever you want and we're going to use transfers on this clay.
I want some preparation, so I'm looking. in that QV ok we're going to start with this piece because this is the piece I think I want for the bottom of the red this is a great way to use up your leftovers so I'm going to have some red and then you I'm going to just look into his eyes and look and see and from the back you can kinda look so just cut out this piece or did you just use a pencil and draw and cut it wrong. This is a great way to use up all your eighty beauties and scraps and then Bromley, my Midna garden.
It still had some very cute little flowers on it I think. I'm going to add them in there the transfer seemed to stick to this very very well no I have enough space maybe I'll put them here in this corner and the 7th depression in your game be careful that's why I make it a little bit thicker because you don't want to ruin your game while doing this and i'm just going to fold these little pieces over the edges make it light up and make sure it's polished pretty nice press it all down you can even leave something over the edges it looks nice and then the last thing What I'll probably do is add a fun word and I just have a bunch of these fun little touch ups that are always great to add to any little project let's get it right so add any embellishments you want and if you want to do it very carefully you can sand to make your transfer look a bit more vintage.
These are the lines that run through. I'm going to add just a little bit of wax and then we're going to put our silver in and now I'm talking about you can use white wax, dark wax, whatever you want. I just want to put some color around the edges so where you don't want this darkness, you definitely want to use your clear wax first so it doesn't set. It's dark but around the edges so I have a little bit of color so I'm just going to use the dark wax because on that dry clay it's going to sit so well there on the transfers that it won't be dark enough to buff it out a bit and then I'm going to use my accents bright and usually best if you use a small brush but it levels itself out pretty well bad edges let dry and then we're going to hot glue a pin to the back and then we're all done , we love to see what you come up with so if you liked this video don't forget to like and follow my page and others. so at the bottom of the video in the description, we'll have some links to where you can get your sparkly accents.
