Cricut - Making and applying a layered vinyl project START TO FINISH layering multiple vinyl

Mar 27, 2020
Hello everyone, welcome to a cricket tutorial. Today I'm going to show you all how to cut out a multi-colored final

project

that you can put on like a car decal or something on a mug. There's a lot of fun stuff, but for this we're going to just use an image that we found on Google. I decided to use a fox, so I'm going to go ahead and click on upload an image to upload because I already found the image that I want to use, so I'm going to go in here and find my cute little fox now based on its color I will make it complex because it has

multiple

colors and I think if I make it simple it would make all this tan white disappear and we don't want that so our next step is to just click continue and then choose the image or whatever color we want to keep first, so I'm going to go ahead and keep the black first, so I want to get rid of all the oranges and all the tans, so I should leave it. us with mouth, nose, eyes, ears and feet, now you can see that because of the type of file we use, we just choose a vehicle, there are some messy parts, that's going to happen.

I'll show you how to fix it, come here to where. your eraser tools are: you have junk, erase, select and erase, we want the little eraser right here because it gives us the little bubble for this

project

. I'm going to go ahead and zoom in so I can get a closer look at where we need to erase, so we need to erase the little dots next to his ears, if we don't he'll try to cut that off and it would be a mess now, it's okay that we have these little ones. dots that will blend together and Okay, let's get rid of the dots next to his nose so we don't need them, let's get rid of the parts that were his tummy and then we'll come in here and make this guy.

I'm going to keep you guys going. and click continue and you will see that you have your little fox now if you notice and I did this so that you guys could see that when you look at your cut file, which is always grayed out, you can see where you may have I missed a point. In this case, I'm just going to hit back. I'm going to go ahead and get really close to his little nose and take a look. and I see a little bit in there that we missed so let's clean it up click continue again and it's good so one thing is to make sure you always do it and I see a lot of people who don't do it. Do you want to make sure you save it as a cut file? The cut file will be on your right side and will be gray. Now I named my image for this.

I'll call him Fox now that we've saved our data as Fox B so we know he's Fox Black. We will come back and upload a Fox one more time. Here we'll go ahead and select complex again. We're going to continue and this time I think we're going to get rid of everything that's not tan, so we're going to go ahead and get rid of all the black and orange. Now again it's going to give us those little lines and we want to make sure we erase them. I'm going to get really close just because they're a little bit close to his ears and I'm going to go ahead and take them off and I'm going to use that little magic eraser circle again, it's really easy to use, you can get it. close to the things you can outline around the things now you'll see you have an outline around his nose and around his cheeks and around his mouth none of that will matter once we're ready to cut because it won't matter if it's just a little bit irregular and these small dots should not be Jagat again.
Make sure you save it as a cut file that will be on your right side and this one we will save as Fox tea for tanning. We're going to upload the Zorro one last time because it has three colors, so you'll have to do it once for each color. We're going to do a complex again and this time we're going to keep his orange, so we're going to get get rid of everything that's not orange get rid of his eyes, his nose, his little mouth, I'm going to get rid of the tan and then his little feet are going to come back in with that eraser tool. , we're going to zoom in again because these ears are a little bit close to his head and we're just going to erase around him and erase around them.
I'm going to run around his nose the same way, just make sure you get rid of that and notice that we're not erasing around his feet. because none of this is going to show up, go ahead and click continue, we'll save it as Fox. Oh, click save and now we'll be able to insert all of our images so you can see you've got your Orange Fox, your tan Fox, and your black Fox. , so I'm going to go ahead and click on the black fox. Insert the image. Go back up. Click here on Fox Tan. Insert that image.
Let's go back one more time to climb. Click Fox Orange and insert the fax. Orange now, which I like to do as a visual image for myself and I think it helps when you line them up. I'm going to go ahead and select the color of each one so we have Fox, oh, here you can see there's this little body. it's set to cut and this is where you can change your color. I'm going to go ahead and change it to orange. We'll leave the black as it is in black and we'll just go ahead and change the Fox tan to the cream just makes it a little bit easier when you look at them and line them up, you don't have to line them up.
I like it just because it gives me a nice image and reassures me that it's what I want to do sometimes. I have to play with it a bit to get it right where you want it, that's good enough for now, it's not quite perfect but I think it will be if I maybe move more on the grips, okay that's good enough okay, so I'm going to resize everything I do. is to select all my parts, you're going to like it, you're going to go ahead and left click on select all and you'll see that it gives you this nice selection, you're just going to resize it, I'm going to do it, I'm not going to do it.
I don't know about 4 fish, we'll pick the one that's a good size again, it doesn't matter if it's not perfectly lined up, in the end it won't matter when we do it, so I'll click "Do It" and it's going to show me each of my dunks. you have my black eyes nose mouth ears and feet you are going to have the main part of your belly your tail and your head and then our third mat is going to show us our tan or cream in this case do Make sure that when you load your mats you place your

vinyl

on your mat.
Do it in the correct order so that when you click Continue, you are on the correct color map. When it

start

s, I'll show you how to get. cutting and then I will show you the assembly and application. Ok, we are ready to cut our fox. We have loaded our

vinyl

onto our mat for our first part, which will be the black one. We will only load our maps. Click OK. and it will go ahead and cut off his eyes, nose, mouth, feet, I preloaded my other quantity, my orange, I

finish

ed my light bar map because it sticks enough for it to work, it's pretty new so no It's so bad, so we are.
I'll go ahead and load the orange one next. It will do the same. You will simply click upload. You'll click C and it will

start

while doing that. I'm going to take off some black pine oil. another mat and go ahead and place my tan vinyl on the green map. Now some people have more than one mat, it's not a big deal to change the mat, but they have all their mats preloaded. I only have these, so that's what we're working on. As you can see I could have set it to cut faster too, that's one of the nice things about the Explorer air 2 compared to just the Explorer air, but I like to cut my vinyl at a normal speed because I'm afraid it will tear .
Because sometimes it does and then we'll just load our tan and we'll just press the cricket button again and it'll just cut off the little pieces of tan, okay, we're ready to lead. I have deleted all my real projects. near them so I can store some of my vinyl. I just start in one corner and these are actually quite simple, there's not a lot of deep detail and I just remove the excess

making

sure all the parts I need stay, stay, sometimes it doesn't help to have a photo of whatever you're doing so that You can see what you need to delete and what you don't.
Next I'm going to do the tan that the little ears have, so we want to make sure that we're looking and

making

sure that those ears are really nice and simple. This is a 651 vinyl so it is permanent so we could use it on almost anything we want. Now that we have this one. the little mouth that you cut off, so I'm going to use my little Cricut hook and I'm just going to come in here and find the edge of the mouth and I'm going to go ahead and peel that off. To keep the sticky side of my vinyl, my used vinyl is on top and I usually stick it a little to my pants on the edges.
This helps when you take out the small parts, you can just stick the hook directly to them and it's very easy to remove them, this one will be a little more detailed because we have the mouth and eyes but I usually don't have much trouble unless I'm cutting very thin letters , so I will do it. Same thing, I'm going to go ahead and start that corner and take the little ears off. I'll make sure his little eyes stay cute, his little nose, his mouth, and then we'll just move on. all the way down to their little feet, so now's the fun part, we can put them together.
Now there are a couple of different ways you can do this. You can layer it in the project you are going to make. Put it in, but for him, I actually think I'm going to put it in my Cricut, so I don't want to try to put it in there because it would be a little difficult to line them up, so I'm just going to use that. This cheap contact paper is from Dollar Tree, but I think Walmart also sells a version that a lot of people like. I'm going to go ahead and remove it. The good thing is that this is different than other contact and transfer papers.
The papers are not very heavy or very sticky so when you're going to make just one small item it sticks very easily so I'm going to go ahead and glue on my little fox face and use my Cricut press tool and I'm just going to make sure press all my little fox characteristics. The reason I chose black first is because this will be the top layer, since those eyes are there in the mouth. I feel like that's what's going to be done easily. Sit on top of everything else so that he is our top layer. You can layer however you like, but you'll see how well this transfer tape works compared to some of the stickier ones.
The next layer I'm going to do is go ahead and I got tanned and I realized I forgot to remove the little eyes from the orange. I don't know what I was thinking, so let's go ahead and take the eyes out of the orange real quick, like it's the same thing. Go ahead and peel that, stick it to your sticky things, peel this other little eye and it comes out, maybe it's there. I tend to lose a few little bits, sometimes they stick to everything, so now that we've got the eyes out, let's go ahead and do the tanning next.
I think it's kind of a personal preference here. I feel like the orange action might be easier to do next because of the eyes and nose. This just gives me ears in my mouth to work with. I think with this one I can probably make the nose and eyes a little better and line them up. This part is not that fun, it definitely takes some practice and some skills, just keep trying many times, they say start with something like that. a really easy one, something really simple that you can see easily. I wouldn't recommend trying to do a

layering

project like this, if you don't have clear transfer tape it will deviate a bit, but I'm actually pretty okay with this.
This is because if you're not clear, you won't be able to see what you're doing. , you know, lining up to push Hemmings too, so here we have this little piece that's a bit off, but you can't really say it again. It's just a matter of practice, it's not always a science from the beginning, so don't worry if it's not perfect. I promise you that no one but you will notice or care. Now I had to suppress it because this little corner didn't do it. I don't want to stay, which is fine, it happens sometimes, like I said, just with all of them, you just want to make sure you get all the pieces every time you peel them, so now we'll move on to tanning you as much as you can.
Look, I

layered

from top to bottom, so let's go ahead and line up the tan as best we can for this one, maybe you need to speed them up into the light a little more. I'm going to do the best I can. I make absolutely no promises that this is going to be a perfect job and it wasn't even close like I said guys it's literally just trial and error and it's not always going to be one hundred percent perfect because we're human and that happens there's a lot of back and forth. stick REE when you do these projects and that's actually very good, okay, I think it's actually very close, so now we have our entire box, now my transfer tape was too small, that's okay, especially because I'm going to hit him right after I lost his little feet.
I'm so sorry, little fox. I'll have to redo his little feet. He's there, but he's fine because he wasn't paying attention and he should have done better. work cutting my ribbontransfer, but it's okay because when you do this, the nice thing is that you can actuallyHonestly, just remove his feet from whatever it's attached to, as long as you're careful and stick it, that's how I feel in a lot of these YouTube videos , it's like you made a mistake, really, it's really okay. It's not the end of the world, everything can be fixed, look at everything better, okay, now that we have a fox, let's go ahead and skin it because of the tan.
With this, the transfer tape peeled off. I don't want to stick them back on because my transfer tape wasn't good it kept peeling off all over so all I'm going to do is see how this little tail is still stuck just start with your finger and you can keep going and then it's fine , won. It won't affect anything, so here's our little fox and it's ready to go. I'll show you how to apply it here in just a second, so let's go ahead and apply it. I'm going to move on. and I put it in my cricket.
I thought it's really cute and would make me laugh, so all we have to do is choose where we want to put it. I think I like it a little here, on this side, that way, if I could. Make more woodland creatures, maybe I'll put in a little squirrel or a raccoon, just press them a little with your hand first because my transfer tape was too small. I'm going to have to be very careful here where he did it. It doesn't reach his tail, so you just want to press with your scraper, you just want to make sure that you're pressing really well and especially on all these little parts, his little ears, little eyes, as you know, especially make sure you go around the edges and then surround them again with your mouth.
Be very careful if you miss the transcript. Now you see, when we peel this off, with any luck, everything should be fine. I will say that with different materials you will probably struggle a bit. more things to glue some of the textured wood tiles, some of the glasses are a little difficult to glue, but on products like plastic glass, things like that stick very well, so here is our little fox, he has all the layers and it's done, and again I know it's not 100% perfect, it's okay, do you like it? That's all that matters. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on how to make a
