Jun 05, 2021
It works so well here is because bluegills are the main forage, there are some shad, there are some tilapia. but I don't think you'll see them until you get down

river

, near Amistad. Basically, I just saw a lot of bluegills around the shore, so I threw this today and got some good hits, although this bait is crazy. he doesn't get many bites but the bites he does get are great so let's talk about this or did this little guy really bother him yesterday alex again you probably have to throw this out but maybe just show the schematic or do something that you know is essentially a swimbait but more specifically it's our swimbait this is a googan bait uh swimbait prototype this is a bait that we will be launching very soon we have a small size and a large this is the small size and I was throwing it in a 1 4 ounce sustain the one that is missing but could launch tomorrow it's just the template.

I have caught some nice fish here in areas I have fished. It has worked. I could take this guy off the bench and put him to work tomorrow he's just had a lot of work this spring. I've been catching a lot of North Texas fish on the jig, so I thought it would be cool to get out of that and try something a little different. but that's all, I'm going to close, thank you all very much for watching the video. I hope you continue to enjoy the Devil's River series. um yeah, tomorrow should be a good day, fingers crossed if we get that big hit, obviously looking forward to finishing.

Sorry if I sound a little nasal by the way, I think I got sick yesterday, it's a lot of cold nights and I think so, anyway I approached me, the reason I wanted to turn on the cameras and show you guys. that beautiful sunrise over those little peaks and I also want to share with you how we live on the

river

on a daily basis and how things are going because I know many of you want to recreate trips like this or maybe I just want to know what it's like, you know, to do a heavy duty fishing transport trip like this where you constantly get out of the kayak and then find a place to make base camp, so I'll show you my little setup.

Nothing special, but at least you have an idea of what's going on, so every night we drag our kayaks to shore for obvious reasons, we don't want our stuff floating, so this is my kayak, it's 12 and a half feet. uh sit on top yak it's got a ton of storage it's perfect for trips like this lots of storage in the front lots of storage in the back I think I've talked about this in previous videos you get the gist now let's move on to the store setup, if I can get through without hitting my face on the branch, okay, first and foremost, this is breakfast today, we are munching on some turkey chili with beans, this is a good thing, just adds some water. and it cooks itself, so while I'm doing my intro for you guys, I'm also prepping some meals and then here it is, uh, this is my tent, it's a one-person Walmart tent on the Ozark Trail, how much did this alex cost?
So it's actually a 25 intense um, it's not the most ideal scenario if you want to do hard and heavy things, but for a four day five day trip it's perfect, especially if you're alone and you only need a tent for a person, so it's a tent for one person it's small, it's easy to set up that's what I like it takes about five minutes to set up you have basically two beams, one wide and this small one that goes right here, look how ephemeral, what's the matter? Will you join, oh, sorry, I killed it. I'm just kidding, so this is the inside of the store.
There is not much to say. A couple of things I want to go over. I've been sleeping on this orange padded rug. which is really nice because pretty much everywhere we've slept there's been some pretty gnarly rocks on the ground, so you've got these super, super, super uncomfortable rocks that aren't pleasant to sleep on, so I've got a sleeping bag too , an inflatable pillow and then all my clothes along with the towel and then the dirty clothes, yeah, so that's getting up, super simple things, all of this, plus the kayak, costs around almost 150 dollars, it's a budget trip.
You don't need a lot of money to take a trip like this, the only thing you could break the bank of course is the fishing gear and kayak. If you want to get a good kayak, it costs a lot of money which we think what you're using sells for around $1500 which is a lot, but if you want to go on a trip and you want a reliable kayak that won't sink or tip over, you can also spend the money on that tent. I can live out of a 25 tent sleeping bag. I think I bought this at a thrift store when I was a kid.
A pillow for only a few dollars. You know that everything is quite cheap. You know I'm trying to defend the fact that you can come. here anyone can come and do a trip like this, it's easy, you just need to come prepared, bring the right amount of food and, you know, plan your trip, definitely plan your trip because I wasn't expecting all those rapids yesterday anyway, now We made it, let's get in the water and fish some, come on, old Bessie, oh boys, this is our last chance on a real devil's river, giants, runny nose, not that I see it, I just blew a huge loogie , let's go catch him. game time fourth quarter literally fourth quarter it's the fourth day it's coming down I'm yelling wood you better move you better dance check this out folks like first thing in the morning they haven't even made a cast yet and mother nature He says, hey, could you?
Like some quickies with that, okay, here we go, let's buckle up, this is going to be a little rocky, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh God, I didn't even have coffee this morning, there you go, that's what I'm talking about, I took it like a champ on the right side, okay. right, yeah, okay, here we go, come on, oh, she's a little wet, okay, just take her now, just take her, okay, turn left, okay, that was pretty hectic, I don't think I was ready For that. Okay, oh wait, wait, what is that? we have one more we have one more here we go okay, that's a lot of water, there's a good amount of water in there, yeah, okay, that was exciting, so let's get this bread right on the first of the day, not how I wanted to start. but the fish is a fish and you smell good, just a wee one to start the morning, thank you very much, stinky, great, okay, this stinks, okay, that's not good, oh here we go, how did I not tip him?
These things are beasts, I think that's all. It's truly the last of the rapids I almost capsized on, it was the closest I came to capsizing this entire trip, I did it, now it's time to fish though, let's go fishing, oh Jesus, wow, this place It's incredible, it's like day four and it's still going. I'm surprised, where the hell am I? A crystal clear river that runs through the South Texas desert. This is so crazy, that's epic. Well, this was a pretty unexpected catch for the first fish. The first good fish of the day. A fucking stripper.
I did not do it. I think they even lived here, that was cool. He didn't fight very hard, but it was a quality catch. Still, a very long and lean fish. My first striper of the season, not too bad. Who, hey, how's it going guys, welcome back to the devil's house? river um the fishing is very slow right now so I thought I'd take this opportunity to show you some of the underwater things that happen it's a very clear water fishery and you know I've got my goggles here I've got an underwater camera let's kick it for a moment we have like four hours until we get to the pick up point and uh yeah did I mention the fishing was slow let's go for a little dip alright gang here we go where's the warp? blind boss right now i can't see anything these glasses are broken don't look really tough i feel like crocodile dundee right now just like 100 times thumper i don't know if i have it on camera but there was like this big voluptuous carp back there and he he was feeding and I think he saw my nipples and scurried away because he'd never seen nipples that small before so it was cool, I think I videotaped it, I don't know he was like a giant I'm getting.
I'm impressed by this stream right now, so I hope you found that fun. Let's get back to our regular program and try to catch our big Jesus. Let's get out of this water. This is all. This is the end of our four day trip down. the famous Devils River. Wow, that was a pretty interesting last day. I can't say much other than the fact that it was very windy. We did everything we could to catch fish. Both teams just couldn't get it done. It was not so. the most ideal section of the river just wasn't like what we were looking for but those are all complaints what I want to talk about is the positive obviously it was an amazing trip yeah now let's get out of the water.
I really felt like I finished strong on the swimbait. I had some crazy opportunities. There are so many teeth marks on this thing from this trip. It's crazy, but yeah, I gave it my all. I feel very grumpy after fishing this river for four days. I'm getting sick, I'm exhausted, my hands are all ruined from smallmouth and largemouth, it's a good feeling, but I'm fucking exhausted and I can't wait to get back to land, damn, that concludes our trip down Devil's River. Back to base because we all started, we took the kayaks off the deck skid, loaded them into the Chevy and began our 30 mile float, 30 miles, four days, 30 miles, many, many fish, my hands show our trip and It was a huge one, okay, so we drove home from literally the Texas-Mexico border to Fort Worth.
What do I think of this trip? I think it was pretty crazy. You have two world-class fisheries. You have Lake Amistad. and you have the Devils River right next to each other, you couldn't ask for a better place to go and spend four days on a strictly fishing mission. I'm excited, I wish we had a few more days on the river but Honestly, it was an amazing trip thanks to everyone who made it happen. Thank you for watching, moving forward and staying tuned. I really hope you were excited about all of our adventures and that we get to live vicariously. every mistake and triumph we made from point a to b but yeah this is it we're back on the road 85 miles until we take our next exit and that's all she wrote and as I make this exit they're driving over the friendship lake look at that amazing beautiful view anyway im at peace signing off thank you all so much for watching i will catch you on the next episode of pawn fishing mission whatever it is as always people keep going fishing, never stops, um. you
