Comer de todo no es bueno para la salud. Julio Basulto, dietista-nutricionista

Feb 27, 2020
Nutrition education in schools? There are no nutritionists in public health, will it be done by someone who surely has good intentions, but has knowledge of nutrition or thinks that you should eat everything? Or do you think you should eat grilled meat? Or do you think they should eat organic products? You probably think all these things and they don't reflect nutritional reality. I have said that I thought about it for years until a scientific article appeared that I really liked, I published it on my blog and titled it: 'Good nutritional education in schools, anti-obesity strategy'. That's how I titled it and there they found the "paper", the basic scientific journal, which motivated me to retract the fear I had of nutritional education at school.

Because? Because they demonstrated through a well-designed study that with the strategy that I am going to discuss now, children did eat better, stopped eating worse, and had lower rates of obesity. And curiously the strategy was not positive, it was negative. You know I mentioned "jumping," right? They are negative things. Avoid a sedentary lifestyle, avoid alcohol, artificial breastfeeding. "Yeah, but it works like that." It's not romantic, but we function better when they tell us the risks than when they list the possible benefits. They dedicated themselves to teaching the children, and having them teach it themselves, and having them themselves carry out workshops and work, very few items related to nutrition.

The items were: one, avoid sugary drinks. Two, avoid fast food. Three avoid snacks, especially salty snacks. Four, avoid screens or reduce screen time, especially sedentary time in front of the screen. And two positive things: exercise more, which they also said: "avoid a sedentary lifestyle", and eat more fruits and vegetables, which they also said: "eat less unhealthy products." This clearly translated into the children eating better or stopping eating worse. Damage to health is not compensated by eating sprouted soybeans. You better remember that for both your children and you, the key is to remove unhealthy products from your daily life, which you think are the exception, but are actually the norm.
