Cluttered 250 Sq Ft Studio Apartment Gets A Major Makeover | Studio Fix S1 E4

Jun 02, 2021
Guys, I'm Alexandra, welcome back to my channel today. I have another episode of Studio Fix coming up. We're filming this Christmas edition, so there's a tree behind me, but when you see this, it'll be 20 20 Happy New Year, today I'm renovating my friend Teresa's

studio

, who also lives right below me, which is very fun. She has an

apartment

that's less than 250 square feet, so it's tiny, tiny, everything is outdoors and she. The main problem was her saying, "I don't feel comfortable or at home." She wants this to be warm and cozy. Hosey, she has a lot of mismatched furniture that looks like it was inherited from her

apartment

or members of her family and it just doesn't serve a purpose and is making her small space feel really

cluttered

.

I can't wait to make space for him. Let's go there. Hey guys, technically it's the first day of the

makeover

because I had some painters come and paint this entire apartment white. I've said this in other videos, but I have no idea why homeowners paint rooms or like apartments such a strange beige color. They would call her that. Beige apartment paint is not something I really enjoy, so I hired someone, a TaskRabbit, to sponsor me. TaskRabbit I use them all the time. Let me know in the comments below if you've ever used TaskRabbit, it's so easy, they painted this whole space white and what a difference, it looks brighter, it looks bigger here.

More Interesting Facts About,

cluttered 250 sq ft studio apartment gets a major makeover studio fix s1 e4...

They know that there is absolute chaos here because we have furniture that goes. The

makeover

is chaotic, but tomorrow when we do the full makeover, it will look so good. Here's a preview. It is revealed that the first thing I will do is remove all of Theresa's old furniture, like so many others. Of you, I'm sure Theresa just accumulated furniture from the family's previous apartments and none of it really matched, which is fine, it's totally similar, but her space just wasn't working the way she wanted because she was almost trying to make her space will accommodate the furniture she already had, if that makes sense, so I'll take everything out and then start bringing in some key pieces that will reduce the things she has, make it more functional, more decorative, you know.

Drill I also think I'm going to keep this light. I think she's very pretty. I haven't decided, but it gives a nice glow at night. Well, this is chaos, so one of the problems that Theresa was having in this space was that she. She doesn't have counter space. I've actually never been in a kitchen with less counter space than her and she had this little island that she pulled out, but there still wasn't enough space, it just didn't work in the way she wanted, so I bought her this beautiful island. from Ikea, it's pretty big and in charge, but it really takes away all the boxes that I was looking for, gives you more prep space, gives you a seating area that you had.

There are so many pieces of furniture that were trying to accomplish all of those things, but instead, this piece of furniture does all of those things in one and it's going to sit right outside your kitchen, so just to help divide the space between your bed area and the your kitchen area, which obviously I mean, it's all open, it's a small

studio

, but placing furniture strategically can help create some sort of division between the areas, so next I'm going to add some really nice bar stools of the article, shout it to the article forever. having my back with perfect furniture, these are just black.
I really want the accents that I'm going to add later to be like the color in this space. Teresa has a lot of black appliances. She had these black built-ins. She's trying to match. everything goes back to what was already in this space another thing I love about this island is the amount of storage it has underneath she has this coffee maker she has her coffee cups she has her teapot and since she doesn't have counter space she's just been storing above her refrigerator, I'm going to move them under the island, so now we're going to hang a floating shelf along this big blank wall that Teresa didn't really know what to do with.
Now a fun trick you guys can do is get a plain white IKEA shelf and then add some decorative brackets, so I bought those on Amazon. I'll link them below. They are really inexpensive, have a very industrial look and will make the white shelf stand out a little against the wall and make it more of a decorative piece than a simple white shelf and again the black ties in with all the existing furniture you already have in the space. I love the open shelves because they act as great storage space, it also warms up this apartment.
I'm going to style it really well and it's just going to be extra storage space. One thing I noticed when I walked into her house was that the entire wall was filled with furniture that only contained a few items. She was like me. Honestly, it's just because I accumulated this furniture and had to find a place for it. Now it's time to put the shelf on my favorite thing and I'll take all of Teresa's books, boxes and things that were on it. on that shelf next to her bed, I'm going to move all of that to this white shelf and make it decorative at the same time.
I love this trick of using brackets to liven up the IKEA shelf a little. I'll link my Amazon store below. tons of supports that I have linked if you are looking for some new supports in each video. I always say there's one thing, but one of those things is that if you're going to do something in your apartment, I feel like changing it. curtains on the curtain rod make a big difference. I've hung them much higher than the actual window frame so the walls suddenly look much taller. You'll see when we didn't do it after the shot, but it just draws attention. and these linen curtains are textured, they are very warm, they just change the whole look of this space.
I've been staring at the curtains for the last hour because I'm weird, but I'm thinking they really transform the whole atmosphere. of this space before the curtain rod that she had up was like hanging from the window frame, it was silver, it didn't have any ends like the rod and it just makes this whole space feel so much brighter and so much bigger . some fun additions to add to Teresa's bed area and I'm going to solve some problems because it wasn't working properly before so I knew I wanted a really big piece of art in this space because I was missing color and it was like having to do this because Large artwork is quite expensive, so I bought the 61 by 91 frame for Mikey, which is the largest size in the river frame.
Then I went to my local paper store and found a sheet of wrapping paper for $7 hanging above Teresa's bed. on the left so when you walk in this print is the first thing you see, it's a really fun way to add patterns and colors to your space without spending a ton of money, you guys know I love downloading art from Etsy and then framing it, but for something this big I have to think outside the box and a fun solution, let me know in the comments below if you try something like this and I guarantee you will look at wrapping paper, we will never go to the store.
I wonder if I could say that, but yeah, I love this piece and it was seven dollars. It's amazing, guys. I am obsessed with this print. I need one. I need one in my house and like I said, it's not even a print, it's a wall. It's not wallpaper, it's wrapping paper, although framing wallpaper could work too, so I'll hang a side table next. I'm going to show a clip from the previous one because I don't know if you saw it. the previous ones, but Teresa's bed was not at least two feet from the wall and she had her dresser with a drawer behind her bed, the drawer wouldn't even open because the bed was blocking the drawer, she had her hamper dirty clothes back there, there was just a lot of stuff piled up back here, but because this is such a small space, I needed to think creatively to find a space-saving solution, so I hung her side table on the wall.
I found this fluid rack from this amazing Toronto company called Croft. They are like impressive furniture. I'll put them together below, it has these leather straps and it looks beautiful and again, it's also very functional because it doesn't take up any usable space for it, which is great, the side table is raised. How cute, another thing Teresa was missing in this area was light. I had a small light above the nightstand, but it didn't turn on the light at all, so I'm going to hang a pendant. It's a plug. I love using them because they are renter friendly, you have to wire them, just plug them in, they look really cool because they make a statement and don't take up floor or table space and are generally pretty. cheap, you buy the cable and the bulb separately.
I'll link back to this one below. I think it was under $20 which is amazing and will leave a lot of light on Teresa's bed area for her to read at night now that it is a side table to put her books on. It's really nice in this apartment, as I'm sure many apartments have lights in pots like there's no shortage of light, but I feel like people often overlook ambient lighting. I have tons of ambient lighting throughout my apartment and I hardly ever turn on the ceiling lights and if you're looking for a warm and cozy atmosphere it's all about the table lamps, floor lights, ceiling pendants, they just make the space feels really cozy and not so bright all the time.
I feel this way when you are in a studio, everything you choose and place in your space should have a purpose that you know, especially in a small space, you should not overlook anything including the sheets, this will really warm up the space, it will act as decoration, that's the beauty. and also the challenge of decorating a small space is that everything has to look good because it's outdoors. I took like these little things that really make such an impact, the next thing I'm going to do is add an armchair right in front of it. this beautiful window Theresa wanted a place to relax, isn't it funny, this bed actually converts into a daybed, which is really cool.
Theresa told me that realistically, on a day-to-day basis, she doesn't turn it into a couch, but when she has people there, she does, so it's amazing that this furniture has a dual purpose and now, for the touches Finally, I'm going to add a cozy rug right next to the bed. I'm going to add a laundry basket like I was saying before. When you live in a small space, especially a studio, everything counts, everything has to look nice, including the laundry basket, and what I love to do is use baskets and turn it into a laundry basket, preferably one with lid so you can hide all the mess. but when people walk in they won't say, oh, that's their laundry basket, they'll think, oh, that's a nice storage basket.
I'm also putting all of his cables and modem in a decorative basket, it's one of my favorites. I've been doing a lot of tricks, just hide all that wire clutter and then I'll add some beautiful dot hooks, they're literally like big dots. He has coat hooks on the back of his door, but he was finding them. It's hard to close the door because it has a lot of coats, so I'm just adding some extra hooks when there are no coats. They look so cute and just decorative and like a piece of art on this wall, but they are functional.
Hey guys, so the last thing you saw was that this makeover was over and it was except for the fact that I came downstairs after I finished renovating the space and I thought, you know, there's just a few things missing and I felt like the bed that doesn't I don't know it just seemed cold to me and not warm and you know I love all things cozy so I decided to bring a few more pieces and I hope you like the style of the video because I've made more loggy things but I feel which is more real life, it's more realistic.
You guys are watching the process, so let me know in the comments below if you like the style of the video and if you want me to do more makeovers. So, oh, I also want to mention that Teresa is on vacation and doesn't want to be on camera, which I totally understand, so there won't be our reveal at the end of this for you guys, you'll see like the beautiful one before. -and-later, but I'll keep you posted on my Instagram, so follow me on Instagram and I'll keep you posted on Teresa's reaction because I'm sure she'll love it, but you never know, so follow me on Alexandra Cater. where you can get all the likes of my daily updates, inspo photos, swipe up links to products I love and other makeovers and stuff like that, but for now let me add those finishing touches, that's one of them I'm adding in this sense, so many of you love this light on my Instagram account.
I have this in my living room. I bought it at Target. I've had this in my accessory closet for a while because I thought I couldn't get away with more than one light, so I had it lying around in case I need it for a makeover like this. I'm not sure if this light is still available. I'll try to link it tobelow, but it's from Target and it was Lee. Ann Ford Collection. I think there are links below anyway. I have a lot of textured blankets like this one in black and white with the same black and white theme, but then I'll throw on a lighter blanket just to elevate it a little. a little I feel like these cushions were exactly what this bed needed, now it feels more like a sofa which I think is ideal in a studio apartment, when you invite friends over you don't want them to feel like they are sitting on your bed. these cushions really help nowLet's think a little.
I also wanted to add that I love how Teresa has so much space under this floating shelf. I was thinking about bringing a utility cart or a bench or something, but I thought I might leave it to her because she knows. she what she needs for storage, but yeah, I just want to show you how much space there is for her to add storage if she needs an extra seat. Who knew it was possible to give someone space in a studio for extra storage? I'm really proud of myself and it really goes to show that if you just condense your furniture and make it work really hard for you, the pieces you have can have extra space to put tons of storage in, which is great, it's finally time for the before and the after you were waiting for, thank you all very much for watching this episode of Studio Fix.
I really hope you enjoyed it and I can't wait to see you in the next video. See you next week. Well, see you in the next video. until next time what the hell
