Jun 02, 2021
Guys, I'm Alexandra, welcome back to my channel today. I have another episode of Studio Fix on the way. We're filming this Christmas edy, that's why there's a tree behind me, but when you see this, it's going to be 20 20s of happy new years. Today I'm renovating my friend Teresa's

studio

apartment

, who also lives right below me, which is very funny. the main problem was that she said she doesn't feel comfortable or at home here she wants her to feel warm inviting Hosey making her little space feel really messy. I can't wait to turn it into space.

Let's go there guys, so technically it's the first day of the

makeover

because I had some painters come in and paint this whole

apartment

white. I've said this in other videos but I have no idea why owners paint rooms or like apartments a weird beige color it would be called an apartment painting beige is not something I really enjoy so I hired someone a TaskRabbit TaskRabbit me sponsor I use them all the time let me know in the comments below if you have ever used TaskRabbit it's so easy it came in painted all this space white and what a difference it looks brighter it looks bigger here you know that it's absolute chaos in here because we have furniture that's going to be remodeled it's like chaotic but tomorrow when we do the full

makeover

it's going to look great here's a sneak peek it's revealed that the first thing I'm going to do is get all the Theresa's old furniture like many of you, I'm sure.

More Interesting Facts About,

Theresa just accumulated furniture from the family's previous apartments and none of it really matched which is fine that's totally like a look but her space just wasn't working the way she wanted it to because she was almost trying to make her space fit the furniture that I already had if that makes sense, so I'll take everything out and then start bringing in some key pieces that will pare down the things that you have to make it more functional, more decorative, you know. the drill I also think I'm going to keep this light I think it's very nice I haven't decided but it gives a nice glow at night okay this is chaos so one of the problems Theresa had in this space it was that she doesn't have counter space I've never been in a kitchen with less counter space than her and she had this little little island that she would pull out but it still wasn't enough space it just didn't work the way she wanted it to, so i got her this beautiful island from ikea it's pretty big and in charge but it really takes away all the boxes she was looking for it gives her a lot more prep space it gives her a seating area she had so much furniture she was trying to achieve all of those things but instead this piece of furniture does all of those things in one it will be placed right outside your kitchen so just to help divide the space between your bed area and your kitchen area which obviously I mean what It's all open it's a small

studio

but placing the furniture in a strategic way can help create a sort of division between the areas ok so next I'm going to add some really cute bar stools from the article shout it out to the article for always having my back with perfect furniture these are just black I really want the accents I'm going to add later to be like the color in this space teresa has a lot of black appliances she had these black built in fixtures it's like trying to match everything from new with what was already in this space another thing i love about this island is the amount of storage it has underneath she has this coffee pot she has her coffee cups she has her tea pot and since she doesn't have counter space she has been storing on top of your fridge i am going to be moving these under the island so now we are hanging a floating shelf along this large A blank wall that Teresa really didn't know what to do with.

Now a fun hack they can do is get a white IKEA shelf and then add some decorative brackets so I got these from Amazon. I'll link them below. These are really cheap, very industrial looking and will just make the white shelf stand out a bit against the wall and make it like more. accent piece than a simple white shelf and again, black ties into all the existing furniture you already have in the space. I love open shelves because they act as great storage. It will also heat this apartment. I'm going to stretch it out nicely and it's just going to be extra storage one thing i noticed when i walked into her house was this whole wall was full of furniture that only held a few items she was like me honestly just because i've accumulated this piece of furniture and i just had to find a place for that now it's time to support the shelf my favorite thing and I'm going to take all of Teresa's books and boxes and the things that were on that shelf next to her bed I'm going to move everything on this white shelf while which also makes it decorative.

I love this trick of using brackets to liven up the IKEA shelf a bit. I will link my Amazon store below. I have tons of supports that I have linked. I am in the market looking for new supports in each video. I always say there's one thing, but one of those things is if you're going to do one thing to your apartment, I feel like changing the shades on the curtain rod makes a world of difference. I hung them much higher than the actual window frame so the walls suddenly look much higher you'll see when we didn't after the shot but they just stand out and these linen curtains are textured, they are really warm. it just changes the whole look of this space.
I've been looking at the curtains for the last hour because I'm weird but I'm just thinking they really transform the whole vibe of this space before the curtain rod that she had was hanging from the window frame it was silver it didn't have any final i also like the bar and it makes this whole space feel so much brighter and so much bigger. Next I have some fun additions to add to Teresa's bed area and I'm going to do some troubleshooting because it wasn't working properly before so I knew I wanted a really big piece of art in this space because I was missing a little bit of color.
I had to do this because large artwork is pretty expensive, so I got the 61 by 91 frame for Mikey, which is his largest river frame size. I was at my local paper store and found a sheet of wrapping paper for $7 hanging over Teresa's bed on the left so when you walk in this print is the first thing you see it's such a fun way to add pattern and color to your space without spending a ton of money you know my I love downloading art from Etsy and then framing it but for something this big I have to think outside the box and a fun solution let me know in the comments below if you want to try something like this and I guarantee you'll be looking for wrapping paper. we never go to the store.
I'm like, could you say that? But yeah, I love this piece and it was seven bucks. It's amazing, guys. I am obsessed with this print. I need one. I need one in my house. it's not even a print it's a wall it's not wallpaper it's wrapping paper although you could frame wallpaper that might work too so next I'm going to hang a side table. I'm going to show a before clip because I don't. I know if you guys even looked at the before but Teresa's bed was not at least two feet from the wall and she had her dresser with a drawer behind her bed the drawer wouldn't even open because the bed was blocking the drawer that she I had a laundry basket in the back there was like a bunch of stuff piled up in the back here but because this is such a small space I needed to think outside the box to find a space saving solution so I'm hanging her end table off the wall .
I found this floating shelf from this amazing Toronto company called Croft. I'll link them below it has these leather straps and that's it looks beautiful and again it's also very functional because it doesn't take up any usable space for it which is great the end table is raised it looks so nice another thing that was Teresa there was a lack of light in this area, she had a little light on top of the nightstand, but it wouldn't turn on at all, so I'm going to hang a pendant. I am a pendant that plugs in. I love using these. because they are tenant friendly you have to wire them up just plug them in they look really cool because they make a statement and don't take up any floor or table space and are generally pretty inexpensive you buy the cord and bulb for Separately I will link this below again.
I think it was less than $20 which is awesome and will cast plenty of light over Teresa's bed area so she can read at night. Now it is a side table to put her books. This apartment is so nice. Like I'm sure many apartments have pot lights like there's no shortage of light, but I feel like people often overlook mood lighting. I have tons of ambient light throughout my apartment and I hardly ever turn on the ceiling lights and if you're looking for a warm and cozy atmosphere it's all about the table lamps, floor lights, ceiling pendants, it just makes the space brighter. feel really cozy and not so bright all the time i feel like when you are in a studio everything you choose and put in your space should have a purpose that you know especially in a small space you shouldn't overlook anything including the bed sheets this will really warm up the space it will act as decoration thats the beauty and also the challenge of decorating a small space is all ng it has to look good because its outdoors i took like these little things that really make a big difference impact the next thing i'm going to do is add an armchair right in front of this beautiful window Theresa wanted a place to relax no Fun fact: this bed actually converts into a chaise longue which is really cool he.
Theresa told me that realistically, on a day-to-day basis, she doesn't make it into a sofa, but when she has people, she does, so it's amazing. that this piece of furniture has a dual purpose and now for the finishing touches i am going to add a cozy rug right next to the bed i am going to add a laundry basket as i was saying before when you live in a small space especially a studio everything counts everything has It has to look cute, including the laundry basket, and what I love to do is take baskets and make it into a laundry basket, preferably one with a lid, so it can hide all the mess, but when people come in, don't let it. will. be like oh that's her laundry basket they're going to think oh that's a nice storage basket.
I'm also putting all your cables and your modem in a decorative basket. It's one of my favorite tricks. I've been doing a lot. It just hides all that cable clutter and then I'm there. I'm going to add some beautiful dot hooks, they're literally like big dots. no coats on these they look so cute and just decorative and like a piece of art on this wall but they are functional guys so last thing you saw this makeover was over and it was except for the fact that I went down the stairs. after I finished remodeling the space and I said, you know, it's just missing, it's just missing a few things and it felt like the bed, I don't know, it felt like cold and not warm, and you know I love all things cozy, so i decided to bring a few more pieces and i hope you like the style of the video because i've done more loggy stuff but i feel like it's more real life it's more realistic you guys are seeing the process so let me know in the Comment below if you guys like the style of the video and if you want me to do more makeovers like this I also want to mention Teresa is on vacation and doesn't want to be on camera which I totally get so there won't be our reveal at the end of this. for you guys you will see how the beautiful before and after but i will keep you updated on my instagram so follow me on instagram and i will keep you updated on teresa reaction cause i am sure she will love it but you never know so follow me on alexandra caters this is where you can get all my daily updates, inspo pics, swipe links to products i love and other makeovers and stuff but for now let me add those finishing touches, that's one of them i'm adding in this light so many of you guys love this light on my instagram feed.
I have this in my living room. I bought it at Target. I've had this in my utility closet for a while because I thought I couldn't get away with more than one light. so i just had this hanging around in case i need it for a makeover like this. I'm not sure if this light is still available. I'll try to link to it below, but it's from Target and it was Lee Ann Ford. collection I think anyway links below I have many textured blankets like this one in black and white that keep the same black and white theme, but then I'm going to layer in a lighter blanket just to elevate it a bit. i feel like these cushions were exactly what this bed needed, now it feels more like a sofa which i think is so ideal in a study whenyou have friends over, you don't want them to feel like they are sitting on your bed. cushions really help, so now let's think a little.
I also wanted to add that I love how Teresa has so much space under this floating shelf. I was thinking about bringing a utility cart or a bench or something, but I thought I could leave it to her because she knows. she what she needs for storage but yeah i just want to show you how much room there is for her to add storage if she needs extra seating. Who knew it was possible to give someone space in a studio for extra storage? I feel I'm very proud of myself and it really goes to show that if you just condense your furniture and make the pieces you have work really hard for you you can have room for extra space to put tons of storage which is great it's finally time For the before and after you've been waiting for, thank you so much for watching this episode of Studio Fix.
I really hope you enjoyed it and I can't wait to see you in the next video. See you next week. until next time you me what the hell
