Chris Harris vs the £250k Rolls-Royce Cullinan | Top Gear: Series 27Feb 25, 2020
its called Cullen it costs a quarter of a million pounds and although it looks like an SUV according to the
rollsits not an SUV no its a high bodied off roader so an SUV then and for all those people who say it should Rolls-Royce really builds a huge SUV I say why not if someone has the right to build a huge offroad tank it's them it's not like their normal cars are small and dainty plus 100 years ago the picture of the best car in the world de Rosa was based on building offroad vehicles because there were no roads, ask Lawrence of Arabia and the Cullinan is a proper offroader, it's four wheel drive, it'll weigh through two feet of water, realistically it'll go anywhere place.
I hope their 250K pound SUV goes away but let's face it the Cullinan owner isn't going to do any of that they are going to drive down the road from this very high riding position wondering why everyone else looks a bit poor. and on the road the Cullinan is all about as refined and imperious as you would expect from the world's most expensive SUV listen the silence is just glorious this is the most refined SUV ever made you really don't even know the engine is on i want I mean, driving on this road now there is no suspension noise, no tire noise and the ride is just extraordinary it's so supple it's like the road in front of you has just been paved with marshmallows and like any other luxury SUV , the Cullinan doesn't just provide comfort it also provides power and it really is more than powerful enough it has a twin turbocharged 6 point seven 5 liter v12 560 horsepower hiding all its weight until you get to a corner like that and you are very aware of how heavy it is let's be honest this is not an SUV to drive hard this is an SUV to float in glorious relaxing silence and that's why the Cullinan is in a class of its own SE does, however, have one tiny problem: using an absolutely horrible looking automotive technical term.
I mean, it's a bit of a new London cab, there it's a Chinese imitation. I mean look at the grill all that money the design team but that's the best they could come up with it looks like they've taken any old boxy SUV and just put a grill on it and a flying lady where it needs to be gutted and I know that appearances are somewhat subjective, but this is wrong if I'm going to go in because it's safer for my eyes, it really is a great achievement. Rolls somehow managed to build a two hundred and fifty thousand pound car that turns heads for all the wrong reasons Sorry Sorry it's not my car but something much worse is going on here the Cullinan should feel like the pinnacle of British engineering , but really it just feels cynical it doesn't feel like it was created through passion or love or innovation it just feels like it is w like created to make money pure greed because let's face it there are too many rich people in this planet so this tasteless car doesn't exist I'm an apologist for the inefficient big fast car I'll defend them because I love cars and I'm passionate about them but I can't build a defense for this car.
I'm in the standard bearer for British engineering, a Rolls Royce, and I'm ashamed to be in it, so if you want to experience a world-class piece of British engineering that you don't make yourself know you don't want one of these oh no you do. one of these now that it's british engineering what is this the brompton folding bike what a machine frankly it's a blessed relief
