We're on a loop, which is both a good and bad thing because it's a beautiful facility to use. but it's also the home of Alfa Romeo, its Polacco test track, and you won't be surprised to learn that if the Giulia Quadrifoglio is going to work anywhere, it will work here because it was developed here. What do we think first?
From all this engine really excited, I think in terms of a turbocharged engine it really goes over the top and this might be the best one I've ever driven. This is a really fast car. I reckon it's about 10% faster than an m3 but what it doesn't do is start from the bottom in the same way as the m3, peak torque is higher but then it's more exciting at the top end so which actually is probably a more exciting engine, but it doesn't have that CrazyTalk bass. If you sometimes feel like, come on, keep going, also the calibration I talked about on the road is a little spongy, well it doesn't matter as much on the track because you're up and running, what's wrong with this chassis?
Can we stop and celebrate the fact that I'm driving a 500 horsepower, rear-wheel drive Alfa Romeo? I didn't think I'd ever played, so I'm really happy, but my mom let that cloud my objectivity. we get here okay its supposed to be lighter than an m3 but it feels bigger and bolder than an m3 so that's not necessarily a good thing its on a sticky corsa tire its got second gear yeah the front of the car is great, a little bit of understeer wash, but you can neutralize it with the throttle because it has a lot of torque, it's really a kind of sliding ball, well let's see, yes, it really is, it has a lot of chatter, it leaves a lot.
I don't feel a great sense of connection in the car. I was doing everything that gets in my way and I feel more connected in an m3, so where are we? I think we have a chance to play comfortable on the road and super fun on the track, which is just You want brakes, huge ceramic things, so yeah, they're very good. The brake pedal feels pretty good again. It's all a bit inert, but that's what we expect from a fairly large sedan. The engine revs beautifully. It really does. There are a couple of things. The variable differential is worth noting, the calibration on the way it works with the engines.
I don't think it's as slippery as the Mercedes c63 or the m3. I guess having Bunbury will lead for about 20 or 30 years, so I have to start somewhere, aren't they okay? Now I have the shocks and the stiffer setup and what's telling is that the rear axle location may not be up to par with the BMW either. Every once in a while, I just feel like it's got a little bit of rubber on a secondary mount or something that's not fully connected there, but I mean, come on, it's an Alfa, we can do it just with an Alfa by dropping the rear axle at one hundred and sixty, everything's fine.
With the world's criticism, well, the ESP system means you can turn it off when you go into full race mode, which gives you the loudest engine and the sharpest throttle response, but if you activate the ABS when you have it off, it brings some intervention back, meaning transitions are a problem. I know it will be a big concern for all the people who buy these cars when they drive them around Fulham, but it's also worth pointing out, for example, that that doesn't happen on some of the German brands. I think you know what I mean if you look every performance discipline, most of them, BMW and Mercedes, do a little better, you ask me, but they are small degrees where the alpha counters have this advantage.
The comfort of the BMW cannot be matched. I think that's a big thing on the road, if you add them all up it just gets annoying, happy inserts in small areas, yes the end is better, the top end, but I think the noise from this at low revs is a bit Disappointing, it's great when you pick it up, so is it as good as an m3 objectively? No, I don't think so, but it's not a million miles away and it looks fantastic. I know it is subjective and available to a mayor. a lovely combination and I think however many they bring to the UK I think they will all be a hit.
I just think it's the car that people want to drive, so it's a big effort, a really big effort, did we really do it? I hope they go out and surpass the best in the class directly. No, we did very well. I like this car. I like Bellanca. I'm going to have an espresso. I'll pretend I'm Italian.
