canon
g7x brand as well, so let's dig into the tips. The good thing about this camera is that you can film in 24 frames per second. A lot of people who make short films want that style of motion blur. Most of our final edits are in 30 frames, but today we're going to shoot in 60 frames. one second and the reason why is when we want to slow down and do slow motion footage we can do that and you can see here that slow motion can look really cool when you're shooting at 60 frames per second because essentially you're getting 50% footage slower that is buttery smooth and looks amazing.Tip number two is to take advantage of the built-in ND filter. Now what is the ND filter which is actually a neutral density filter and it's essentially sunglasses for your camera and the reason it's powerful is because the lens on the g7x is really fast it's 1.8 aperture which can allow for some really nice blurred background footage, but when you're shooting in bright sunlight or daylight you usually have to lower the aperture to get everything to look good except the ND filter solves that problem and lets you Get amazing looking images straight from the camera. Number three is to take advantage of the g7x autofocus setting.
Now one of the best features Canon cameras have is Dual Pixel Autofocus, which means it's great for following focus during video clips. and one of the settings that we use the most nowadays is face tracking, so if we have a subject where we can lock onto someone's face, it works really well if we're doing some movement that's amazing, but also if you want to just get a shot where maybe the InFocus of an object and then it pans back and forth we'll use a flex zone or one point autofocus and because it's a touch screen on the g7x, Get a touch on the area you want to be in sharp focus and get really sharp shots that focus from one side to the other and look amazing.
Tip number four is to make creative camera moves. Now one of the best ways to make your videos more interesting is to include dynamic camera movements, whether that's taking a revealing shot from behind an object that reveals your subject or whatever you're shooting well, whether that's just panning a lot of times, shots can look a lot more dynamic just doing simple side to side pans and so think about how you can use creative panning and one of the great settings on the g7x is the built in image stabilization which is optical and in video mode you can set it to different intensity levels you can turn it down so it just removes a little judder to standard or even too high and can remove a lot of shake giving you really smooth shots even if handheld so come on to test the image stabilization here on the g7x brand and in this first scene you're actually seeing the image stabilization turned off so this is a handheld shot it's not on at all you can see the motion there but now we actually turn our setting on we're going to put the lowest setting here so now it's a little smoother You can definitely see this shot okay now this is just the standard image stabilization it definitely takes out a ton of shake it looks great and now finally this shot you're looking at here this is the high setting for the image stabilization it's using the sensor to stabilize the footage and therefore makes the footage look a little different , but it definitely takes away from the motion so it's a cool setup to experiment with tip number five include creative transitions so these are simple and creative ways to really add something.
Style and some ambience in your footage you could transition from hand to lens allowing you to get a shot where you start in one place and then when you remove your hand it can be in a completely different place or you can do whip transitions where maybe you pan up to the sky in one place and then you whip down your subject again and they're in a different place or for another example you could use a color transition this is where you might end a take in a certain color and then move away from that color in a different location again super creative and this is so easy to do because you're not doing any special effects and editing, you're just cutting the two clips together that you had thought of ahead of time for filming tip number six is to experiment with your color profiles now, if you're just getting started with video using just Auto or standard or portrait will make your video footage look great from the camera; however if you want to take things to another level and really stylize your footage consider shooting with a neutral setting, it will make the image as flat as possible while recording but then in post production when you are editing you will be able to add your own flair and flare and even achieve kind of that movie look that you see in a lot of creative youtube videos and finally tip number seven is to experiment with time lapses now time lapses are a great way to show the passing of time time to show off locations and really add some stylized clips to your overall video and the cool thing is the g7x has a couple of different time lapse modes built right into the camera all you have to do is pick one it lets you he will say how long it will take to film it and then he will do it. tell you how long the final clip is going to be so it's right there on the camera set up your camera turn it on and then it's done and a time lapse is created right there on the camera for you that you can use later in the edit so I hope you found those tips valuable, which brings us to the question of the day and those are your tips for shooting with the canon g7x.
