See on these cans, the hardener is at the bottom. and I'll show you how to mix it with the clear coat later if you're interested in this for kitchen kick or any other product tools that I'll be using in the making of this video and you want to purchase. put them online. I'll put links where you can find them cheap in the description box below, so don't be afraid to click mine and check out why the clear coat repair we're about to do is not going to be a long-lasting pair. , but also just to teach you the basics of automotive painting, we're going to take a quick lesson on the steps involved in painting a car, so fresh off the production line, all of the different panels on your car will be basically bare metal , it's basically going to look like this piece of bare metal that I have here, so to protect this piece of bare metal, the first thing that's going to be sprayed on it is going to be some kind of self-etching primer or any epoxy primer and again this is to protect the medium from moisture and rust corrosion and then it dries, it's time to spray some base coat, base coat is what gives your car its color and your base coat goes away. to be the thinnest coat, the different finishes that are sprayed on your car and it is only there to apply a little bit of color and then after the base coat dries and after a certain amount of time passes, it should be apply the clear spray and clear coat within a certain window after applying your base coat, say about an hour to 24 hours and that's so it can stick and adhere to the base coat and your clear coat's job is to protect your base coat against the sun and also give it that nice shiny shine, so this is not that shiny right now, but pretty soon it will have a nice shiny shine there.

I think you guys can see it better at this angle. Okay, now let's move on to the repair procedure, so first things. What you want to do is get a bucket of clean water and then add your favorite car wash soap and then with a clean sponge thoroughly clean the panels that are going to be repaired. Now it's true that if you use a sponge and try hard. Enough so that you can put little scratches on your clear coat, but again, there is no clear coat on this car, now after that you get another bucket of clean water and wash the panels well and obviously this would be a lot more easy if you could use a garden hose, but I just don't have one here inside the store, well, they just thought of a very good tip.

I can, guys, and you know, you can use water to get an idea of what things are going to look like after you apply your light cut, so for example, here on the hood, this is probably what it's going to look like after you apply our clear coat and give this panel a glossy shine, as you can see, the discoloration on the base coat is gone or just too much. long and you will still see it even if you apply a clear coat, but it is a small improvement. I guess you can also use the same thing to see if the damage to your headlight lens is due to the outside or inside, you know, just spray a little water on it and that's pretty much what it would look like if you applied a transparent layer on the outside.
Now, in the case of this lighthouse, as you can see, there are many improvements. when we put water so you know there's a lot of corrosion on the outside of this lens, but it's still 100% clear so you know there's also some corrosion today inside this lens. Alright, take a microfiber towel and then dry it completely. The panels that are going to be repaired right now, as you can see, we still have a clear coat on the bottom of this panel, but it's completely missing on the top now so we can apply the new clear coat that we're going to repair.
Spray here to make it adhere to this old clear coat. We need to scrape off this old clear coat. You can use 1500 grit sandpaper or a gray Scotch Brite pad and this is not just any Scotch Brite pad. It is specifically made. for auto paint and body repair and if you are interested again link in the description box and I prefer this because not only is it easier to use than a sandpaper but it will also be much easier to use it to remove this layer transparent that peels off. layer that we have around the edges, you really need to get rid of all of this, otherwise, you know that whatever you spray on this is going to come off right now, since this is a pretty serious case, no matter what we do, there will still be a flaky clear coat around the edges, but you know we'll do the best we can.
Also, it goes without saying. Make sure you don't scratch the adjacent panels when you approach them with your scotch. put some tape on them if you have to, yadda, yadda, but you know I'm not going to spend that much time in this car because it's going to the junkyard soon, so I'm going to stop halfway. I'm going to bother with the rest of this fender, but if you did this correctly, you would know that you use the Scotch Brite pad on the entire panel that way, when you go to spray the clear coat, you can just spray the clear coat on the entire panel . and let's finish this up and you know, just for fun and giggles, I'm going to split this fender into three segments in the center area that we'll leave alone so we can compare our repair areas to the ones on this left side.
I'll spray on our clear coat as it is now, but on the right side I'm also going to scrape the base coat with the Scotch Brite pad to see if that makes any difference again, some of the green base coat will come off. with your pumpkin pipette, but I tried it before on this little area of the hood and as you can see it looks a little greener and the rest of the hood, oh yeah, let's do the hood too, all the benefits of having a A shitty car at your disposal, I guess they are as expected.
A lot of base coat came off so once again after we finished sanding we took a clean bucket of water again and gave our handle a good wash, so normally the next step would be to tape it off. and mask around the panel that's about to be sprayed, but since this car is going to the junkyard again, I'm not going to bother with that, so that's it, but if you're doing this on a car that's not going to the junkyard, I recommend you put masking paper all over the car or at least up to the back windshield because these cans are quite strong and when you start spraying, if the rest of the car is not covered, you will overspray them and As it comes a 2k clear coat, you're going to have a hard time cleaning it off, so next we're going to shake the skin for two minutes, then we're going to take this plastic cap off the top and put it on the bottom like This is okay and then we're just going to flip it over and then we're going to press it down from the top and that mixes the hardener with our care cup and once again we shake it for two minutes so what we're going to do is apply three medium coats on each segment with a 50% overlap.
It is also very important that before you start spraying, you take one of these. No, I'm your mom's baby daddy, so you need to spray this about 80 inches from the panel and also make sure. start moving your hand before you start pressing this and start spraying; otherwise if you don't move before you start spraying you'll leave a blob of clear coat on one end so that side is fine so this is what After our first pass you know a little improvement but again you're spraying clear coat over a panel that barely has clear coat left, so there will be improvements, but how good it is, that's a different story. okay, five minutes later and now we're going to do our second pass and our third and final layer.
Alright, now I'm just going to wait about an hour and then I'm going to go ahead and remove the center piece and then we can look and see. If you've made any improvements, okay, so it's been an hour, let's remove them as usual, like I said before, if you want to remove them from the clear coat, just spray them on there, there we go, okay, so first here's a look the hood improvement yeah I would say how much improvement I'm not too sure okay there's an opportunity at this angle you guys can see it better as you can see it's still pretty clear where the clear damage was before we started . spraying as to whether this side is better than this side, we sand it with our scraper pipette.
I honestly can't tell the difference, maybe just a little better on this end, actually just a little from this angle at least. He actually wants to get closer. I'm not sure if you guys will be able to pick them up, but you can see some light spots, lighter spots on this side where we sanded with our scratch brite pad, while on this side, you know, there's still some clear discoloration, but at least it's a a little more uniform and here we look at it from a little further back. This might give you a better idea of what things look like so you can see that things are brighter.
I mean, you're expected to be spraying a clear coat. you're going to have some improvement, but you know the areas where we had the clear coat damaged when you move to areas where there's still a clear coat, the difference is still noticeable even though we now have a clear coat on both sides. I suppose there could be an argument. It should be noted that if we sprayed the hood and only the hood, there would be a noticeable difference and it would be a pretty big improvement, but it will only be because there would be nothing to compare it to, you know, like on the fender. discoloration of the base coat that has occurred over time, that this clear coat on the top has disappeared when you spray a clear coat on both sides, you know you can compare them to each other and then there is a big difference, while on the hood, you already know. the clear coat was completely gone so you had nothing to compare with and what could you argue, now it would make a big difference if this result disappointed you, fear not because in the next few weeks I will make a video showing you how you can do it.
I sanded, primed and also the base coat and clear coat using nothing but spray cans now before you go do me a favor and share this video on your favorite social media and also check out these other related videos which I will put links to on this side of the screen that they can click on, there will also be links in the description box below. Okay, thanks for watching. I'll see you next time.
