Can You Beat Pokémon Fire Red Using the Exact Team That Ash Used For Every Major Battle?
Feb 19, 2020Welcome to Step Into The Unknown, your one-stop-shop for answers to the questions you've never been bored enough to ask. My name is fj and today we're taking a step back and trying something I've always wondered about. Question, can you

pokemonfire
redusing
theexact
pokemon ash ketchumused
for eachbattle
? thats not a catchy title i have to work on these titles after the experience of making the bide only challenge video i needed something a little less intense this time this one is self explanatory im going to take onevery
single gym leader and the champion with theexact
pokemon ashused
in the anime, which means catching and training the pokemon he caught, leveling them up to the point where he leveled them up, and then battling the pokemon he chose to use, I don't know if you remember this, but Ash was a real dumb kid back in Singing days, he couldn't tell ground types from flying types or his butt from his elbow at almost no time.Did he really earn a gym badge? Usually it just made the gym leader take pity on him enough that he was just handed one on top of Ash's Pokemon. He really didn't enjoy developing anything on this kid who refused to really grow or learn inspired. them anyway i mentioned the levels before thats the part that really interests me early on in the anime it was established that the levels exist dust attack at level five sand attack at level 12
every
one knows now you can tell me what level pidgey evolves into and what is the name of pidgey's advanced stage based mostly on what moves they have used and what moves they still have to learn.
More Interesting Facts About,
can you beat pok mon fire red using the exact team that ash used for every major battle...
I'm going to try to pinpoint what level each of the pokemon required for each
major
battle
was at, of course. this is based on ash's journey so the battle style is in the set and we are not allowed to use items because that's the anime rules i think i have mostly explained myself so let's go into the professor's lab Oak let's pick up our pikachu and watch gary pick up his squirtle too i realized about halfway through doing this that i probably should have named my character ash but i'm dumb and if i have to live with that then you'll do fine too i'll drop this first battle with gary but it didn't actually happen this is an example of what definitely wouldn't have happened in the anime pikachu paralyzes squirtle with his first thunder then annihilates him with a second a completely dominating win after reaching the green forest of course , it's time to catch our first Pokémon. We ran into a level 4 Caterpie and after fighting much more than Ash, we finally managed to catch it. Caterpie wasn't the only Pokémon Ash caught in the British bush, though he did too. a pidgeotto he can also remember that his first line of defense against the flying type was his newly captured caterpillar like i said he was a really dumb kid the bug type wipes out immediately as expected sorry for that caterpillar once he pikachu arrives though it only takes one pokeball to catch pidgeotto which was good because he was quite a few levels above us with two new
team
members available time to start training in the same episode ash catches caterpie and pidgeotto he also managed to evolve the worm pokemon into metapod which is an action packed episode and then before reaching pewter town the metapod evolves into butterfree unfortunately he chooses not to use butterfree in the gym battle with brock because even with the weakness rock type im sure shuffle would have been a good move to have instead ash goes with his other two pokemon for the two on two battle in the pewter gym after brock sends out geodude ash goes with his trusty flying type and after pidgeotto faints he sends out his pikachu he can remember ash didn't win this battle so hopefully we do better here is where we headed to the pikachu battle at level 10 because of level 11 of hillary and fast attack and i definitely didn't know that when ash fought brock his move set consists of thunder growl tail whip and thunder wave what a terribly useless group of moves our second pokemon pidgeotto is level 19 with fast attack attack from sand tackle and burst ash pigeotto never used tackle but had used every other move at the time of this battle in the next episode the showdown in pewter city pidgeotto used whirlwind which he will learn at level 20. that's obviously close so 19 seemed like a safe bet ok let's go in brock start geodude and send in pikachu there's not much electric mouse can do in this battle but he can reduce geodude's defense to soften him up for pidgeotto after he lowers his defense a few stages with tailwhip pikachu goes down to tackle it all comes down to pidgeotto now with his defense having taken a quick attack hit is almost enough to take down the muscular judo rock monster and then he wastes a turnusing
defense curl before a second quick attack knocks him out that's for pikachu good job onyx mouse brock's ace is next and his defense is good and healthy that's not good with rock we have a grave at his disposal, we must prevent him from attacking as quickly as possible, we make a couple of sand attacks right away but Onyx lands a rock tomb then we trade attacks which definitely goes in Brock's favor we do three more quick attacks while onyx can only do a single entrance though a couple more attacks are only countered by a single lasso with grains of sand clogging the eye holes of the rock serpent. He can't do much to stop us. One last quick attack takes it out and the rock wins. patch Ash's choices may have been terrible, but we've gotten through it well, let's move on to Cerulean City and the gym battle with Misty with Pikachu refusing to fight his friend. Ash chooses to start with Butterfree, eventually ending up in the water and Ashrae calling out. him and send pidgeotto so that we have our equipment for the battle of the cerulean gym. This is how they look. be at or around level 23. Pidgeotto's level 27 with wing attack, sound attack, whirlwind, and fast attack with normal flight type, breaking wing attack in this very battle in the anime, we can really pin her at level 27 with that out of the So let's get into it, the gym battle starts just like it did in the anime with Butterfree facing off against Misty Staryu.
The first trade sees a water pulse entry that crosses the sides with Butterfree doing a bit more damage and then uses sleeping powder to put Staryu to sleep and re-tackles two more hits, knocking out the star pokemon before he can wake up and force Misty to bring out her Starmie once more. While Starmie sleeps, Butterfree is able to land four tackles, including two critical hits, after she wakes up. Starmie uses the water pulse again, which confuses Butterfree and leaves him in firing range after breaking through the confusion and hitting a fifth tackle. The type of error leaves the army in the red. health but misty uses a super potion to fully heal him with no butter it spawns confusion in time to use stunsport and with starmie paralyzed I cut my losses and switched to pidgeotto however the paralysis doesn't stop starmie from attacking and the water pulse goes off vanishes over a third of pidgeotto's health connects with a wing attack that does a little less than half before another pulse of water lands, bringing the bird pokemon down to 25 hp, meaning none of our
team
members can survive another pulse of water, luckily pidgeotto's second wing attack is a critical hit and knocks out starmie to give us the victory which grants us the cascade badge and with that out of the way we can move on and catching new pokemon there was a three episode arc in the anime where ash caught all the kanto starters and that's where we are now on route 24 ash comes across an abandoned charmander and finally hands over thefire
starter to his team in their debut appearance.Charmander uses the flamethrower for the first time, which puts him at level 31. That may seem high, but I didn't do the rules right, I did, but I just follow those rules anyway, we added Charmander to our party and then we headed to route 25 to catch a squirtle. Now I realize that the Kanto design seems to differ from the Game to the anime or maybe Ash just backtracked, we really should have caught Bulbasaur first but he ignores that anyway, the squirrel catches new water guns, so you put it somewhere in your teens, like in levels. I'm not suggesting that Squirtle is older than Ash or anything like that. i mean he could be who knows i really lost track of this we caught a squirrel that's what i mean let's move on to bulbasaur with the grass starter he only knows how to tackle and vine whip as of the 10th episode of the anime that puts it somewhere between level 10 and 15 so 12 seems to be ok with the starting three now on our team its time to head to the vermilion city and take on lieutenant serge this is one of the most iconic gym battles of the pokemon series and unfortunately for me only ashe uses pikachu that means we will be facing voltorb pikachu and raichu only with our lone pikachu only in the sense that he is alone in this battle not in terms of nature he is actually careful of not catching him with cheese in his grip and a trap on his neck anyway, you probably know that Ash ends up
beat
ing Lt.Surge because Pikachu knows speed moves, the Raichu never learned ie fast attack and agility since he Pikachu doesn't learn agility until level 33, that's where we need to start. in battle, our pikachu's moveset consists of lightning agility, fast attack, and punch, let's try this, lieutenant serge sends out voltorb first and obviously we take out pikachu, one punch smashes voltorb, knocks him out in one and the pikachu de serge meets the same fate. knocks our clone down and makes it the one on one the anime wanted after a third hit destroys about two thirds of raichu's health he paralyzes us with a wave of thunder after a double teamed pikachu breaks the paralysis but he misses raichu and crashes into him.
Then the evolved electric mouse uses a quick attack which the anime suggested he wouldn't know and the paralysis prevents us from retaliating. Another quick attack hits pikachu before he slams into the ground once more, a third quick attack connects and this time it's a crit that brings pikachu up to 11 hp, but slam eventually lands again and knocks out raichu, which that we get the Thunderbadge and we can finally move on to Saladon City before Ash goes after his fourth gymnastics match though he says goodbye to Butterfree so that's our next unfortunate task hey say bye butterfree that's the name of the episode where it launches anyway moving forward in the anime ash takes on sabrina before he fights erica but that's not possible in the game so we're fighting erika first in another complete mess of a gym battle ash's choice of three pokemon are Pikachu Bulbasaur and Charmander Now Pikachu is level 36 because even though he knew thunder at this point in the anime, it was only used in the gym battle with Sabrina, which I'm pretending didn't happen. however, the most recent new move the bulbasaur used was the razor blade and when he learns that level 20 21 seems fair, Charmander is level 35 with flamethrower, smokescreen, rockslide, and claw metallic.
Here, the only clue we have for Charmander is flamethrower. right where he leveled up naturally so i kept looking at my team you probably realize this isn't going to be hugely difficult. Erica sends out the victory bell first and Charmander burns it down with a flamethrower. A creeper comes out second and once. Again, it's a one-hit ko flamethrower that knocks out Tangler and forces Erica into her last pokemon Vile Plume, oh and Vileplume is down too. That was easy. the rainbow badge was added to our case we can happily move on ash vs sabrina rematch even though the episode is called haunter vs kadabra he only uses pikachu haunter appears during the battle but it is not actually used by ash he is just hanging out pikachu used thunder during the first gym battle with sabrina but the rematch happens a few episodes later and at this point he naturally hit level 45 so that's where we go with his move set being made up of thunder lightning fast attack and agility with that out of the way let's jump into it sabrina sends out her cadabra first and we take out pikachu so once again we're back in the anime world this time though it's a much less difficult battle , a critical thunder from pikachu removes the psychic type by one and brings sabrina to three, her mr. female mime is next and once again we start with thunder it takes mime down to below half health but a calm mind means another shot probably won't take her down which proves to be true when the lord mime lives with one hp but thunder at least paralyzes her sabrina usesa high ratio to heal a right back before a beam cuts through about a third of mime's hit points we can outspeed and get another beam before mime is ready to move unfortunately paralysis doesn't stop it from attacking and the cyber attack hard hits pikachu who is down to half health then misses with thunder before the paralysis does us a favor we hit mime with a final thunder knocking her out leaving sabrina with only two venomoth is next and once again thunder makes its mark she retaliates with scibeam leaving pikachu with only 17 hp thunderbolt ko is the venomous moth pokémon and takes it to a one on one alakazam comes out last for sabrina and we more or less needing a Miracle Thunder connects again and leaves the cutlery connoisseur in shooting range and for some reason seeks future vision instead of the partner which buys Pikachu time and can hit another thunder and get the win it was big luck, so let's just grab the Marsh and go before we go after our sixth gym badge.
We have to catch up to it because that's what Ash did and it's going to be important later for now, although it's not very noticeable, so let's look at that mentioned gym instead of Fuchsia City. Ash chooses to use pidgeotto. and charmander for his gym battle with koga for our team we have pidgeotto at level 33 because at this point the flying type hasn't used any new moves since he learned the wing attack it's a little hard to pick exactly where he should be but this seems to be fine. Charmander, on the other hand, is nice and easy in battle with Koga.
Charmander bursts into a fiery spin for the first time, and since he learns that at level 49 he'll have to do that, we're going to give it a try. Koga starts with one of his two tosen and we start with charmander the fire starter outspeeds the poison type with a flamethrower and lands a shot as koga goes out to muk we switch to pidgeotto on our side then do a series of non damaging for a couple of Minutes I'm talking invasion Raising Moves Precision Dropping Moves Toxic Poisoning Moves Defense Raising Moves We've got them all Once Pidgeotto is poisoned We switch back to Charmander without changing much. bringing the purple sewage monster down to a shred of health, which is unfortunate because it convinces koga to use a high ratio just like that.
We return to the starting point after several attempts. We land another flamethrower on muk to bring him to orange health. out of nowhere we hit again which burns the slime leaving him with only a few hit points left the poison type uses his last breath to increase his evasion one last time the truly heroic slime was in battle for about 30 turns and didn't land even one single attack it's a bold strategy koga let's see if it's worth coughing up number two is next and for some reason I switched to pidgeotto I think the battle with muk broke my brain a bit first move of the battle was a flamethrower. i shot an identical pokemon so i probably should have stayed here, finally coughing knocks out pidgeotto and if we're being honest it was completely my fault, ash's goofy kid energy is really rubbing off on me as charmander returns to battle. coughing because of course we stick with a 1v1 koga's 8's wheezes out last and after another flamethrower brings him down to below half health he uses a smoke screen not enough to stop Charmander who shoots another flamethrower to knock out wheezes and earn us the soul badge, okay, time for another safari zone detour, Ash traps himself in Tauros and if you're wondering why the footage you're watching is subtitled, that's because this episode was never dubbed into English, this episode never aired in the US, and honestly, I'm not sure why it's really a mystery.
Anyway, we need to pick up a Taurus for accuracy's sake, so let's do it, it takes a bit of time, but we finally have our hands on the Grassland Pokemon and can move on. Now you may or may not know that Ash didn't just catch a taurus in the safari zone, in fact every time he tried to get a different pokemon a herd of taurus would gallop past and kill off another one so I lost a day doing that. unnecessary i think i have a problem let's move on before we head to cinnabar island to face blaine we need to make quick work of it when charmander knocks out a wild raticate to reach level 50 it evolves to charmeleon but you know it doesn't will. last long, it seems wrong to think of Ash with a Charmeleon, so when he knocks out a growlithe to level up to 51, we get a new Charizard and then head to the cinemabar to wander around the pokemon mansion for a bit and have a look at the fossil that we picked up, it's a nice break from the action before jumping into our penultimate gym battle.
Ash failed in his first battle against Blaine, but when he finally succeeded, he just used his Charizard. This is another pretty iconic gym battle as far as the level of our charizard goes this one doesn't make much sense but listen to me charizard learns dragon rage at level 54 and i hadn't learned it yet in the anime i know the charizard in the screen already knows but that's charmander's fault blaming that adorable little lizard i think 51 is ok and that's what i'm going to do this actually works great with backstab and the big difference between our attack and the special attack i'm not sure the difference between rock slide and flamethrower was that huge snarl he falls into one once more ponyta just survives and because he does it means blaine burns at two high ratios before the horse finally passes out. each of our attacks blaine's ace responds with a knockdown and unfortunately for him that meant recoil damage so even though charizard turns red our newly evolved pokemon finishes them off without really stressing blaine hand over the volcano badge and now there is only one. space left in our batch case, as is tradition at this point, the viridian gym battle is a complete and utter disaster, ash isn't even facing giovanni, he's just fighting jesse instead of the fake gym battle, he used squirtle bulbasaur, pidgeotto and pikachu so let's check to know where they are for level 46 of our bulbasaur team which considering he used a sunbeam long before this battle in the anime seems about as low as it possibly should be Ser, squirtle is a bit harder to pin down though the water launcher is at level 45 which seems okay because by the time Ash got to Viridian City Squirtle had been using Skull Bash for 30 weird episodes though there hadn't been yet Used the hydraulic pump and wouldn't for a while.
We've been through Pikachu enough at this point. This is just his natural level in this part of the game and it seems right finally we have pidgeotto and this is the hardest of the four in this battle in the anime pidgeotto breaks out double edged for the first time but since he doesn't learn that move at level up. We're in a tough place instead of overthinking it. Let's leave it at 41 for now and get into the fight. Leaf destroys Spike's pokemon and for some reason team leader Rocket sends out his second right horn next, once again a razor blade does the trick to do it one after another for Bulbasaur as Doug Trio comes in we switch to pidgeotto predicting an earthquake works perfectly and the flying guy glides through the sky while doug trio makes a real mess on the battlefield a combination of sand attack wing attack and fly get the best of doug trio before he can cause too much damage nidoqueen is next and after a couple of sand attacks and a quick attack she knocks out pidgeotto then we go into pikachu just to give him a taste of the battle after taking a quick attack nidoqueen takes him out though now it all comes down to a two against two.
Squirtle comes in and manages to outrun nidoqueen and connects with surf to knock her out giovanni takes out nidaking at the end and is faster than his female partner and outruns squirtle to land an earthquake that takes the kanto water launcher under half health but surf hits hard and knocks out the pokemon drill to give us victory with our badge case full we can finally head north to the pokemon league before we get ahead though we have some new pokemon to catch, we added bay leaf snorlax and haircuts to our gear and yeah I think he caught them all at high levels on route 22.
That's definitely how it happened in the anime and I'd rather you didn't question it now I'm just going to skip to the champion and our rival gary ash. he fought lorelai and agatha in the anime but they were just one on one matches using his pikachu larla wasn't even using his real name i checked and recorded them but it wasn't very interesting so i left it. Just pretend the elite four don't exist Ash vs Gary is all that matters now, so let's see which team we're going to wear when Ash and Gary finally square off after five years of waiting.
The protagonists of Pokémon used the team of tauros heracross. muck bay leaf snorlax and charizard so one last look at our team we will start with tauros who is level 53 with knockdown strength swagger and rest in the anime tauros used knockdown like three years before this battle so he has to be at least 53. We have Snorlax at level 54 with Hyper Beam Block Sleep Talk and deploy once more. It had been years since Snorlax used his most advanced move, so again 54 is probably cutting him down a lot. at no point did she learn memento so i just kept her below level 61. this was just the natural point where she got to charizard at 55 with flamethrower dragon rage rockslide and firespin at this point charizard had used dragon rage so this seems right honestly the bay leaf is level 52 with drain reflex synthesis and body slam.
Ash's bay leaf never used sunbeam so I was just making sure to keep it under 55. We finally got her at level 53 with Brick Break Megahorn knockdown and reversal with the bug fighting type breaking Mega Horn for First time in this battle 53 is probably the right time to relive this iconic battle, but where Gary accidentally messed up two-thirds of his team. Come on, Gary start. with pidgeot and we send out muck first after starting trapeze does some damage muk hits twice as hard with sludge bomb then we just recreate that turn and pidgeot goes down without muck in too much trouble gary sends out alakazam next and we don't really don't have much of a choice Here, no one wants to take a sidekick from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Spoon, so we just have to accept that muk's time is up, one shot removes the poison type and evens the match. and alakazam cleverly puts a reflex softening the knock down partner that does a lot of damage to tauros but survives and with a critical hit gives us the upper hand once again exeggutor shows up next and there's no point in really switching so he Called to the tauros to use the takedown.
Unfortunately, Reflect is still taking damage from physical moves, and with a single gig of drain, the battle was squared once again. everyone wants to see but i don't want charizard to wash out so i switch to bayley blastoise's hydropump still does decent damage even though it's not very effective thankfully on the second try it misses the mark and lets the laurel. to get out of a giga drain with the grass type healing on each attack actually gets the upper hand in the battle but once blastoise's health goes down gary just forgets the clearly divine rules and uses a full restore which coincided with the moment he ran out of pp bayley for his only grass type move we kept pushing with just a body shot but the tide has really turned now though he manages to cripple blastoise the water type is victorious in the end and makes it a 3v3.
We send her through it next and a megahorn takes the turtle down a second time, but once again gary uses a full restore and then in the middle turns a brick breaks and a megahorn brings him back to health red but gary just throws another full restore at this point he's out of pp for hydropump and can barely touch haracross so we ran him to orange health with a couple brick breaks instead of using mega horn and then removed him with a third gary pokemon. The fifth pokemon is arcanine and that's not a good matchup for heracross so we switched. off to snorlax then we just have a back and forth battle of flamethrowers and hyper beams that snorlax almost gets the better of while reloading though rydon did finish him off with an earthquake and turns him into a two on one charizard goes in and this is real bad matchup for us the flamethrower deals solid damage before a rock tomb completely destroys charizard in one so we stick with the last two pokemon heracross returns and immediately goes to work with brick break the movesuper effective lands and slices right to next to nothing, gary doesn't care though he just throws a full restore on rydon's head and keeps the battle going.
The HeraCross job is officially the Sole Survivor of the Battle of Champions and we've beaten FireRed by wearing Ash's exact gear for every
major
battle. I know this wasn't the hardest challenge, but I personally found it very interesting to research and build. and I hope you did too, this was quite a bit different than my usual challenge video, so thanks for sticking around. The last few weeks have been really good for my channel and I can't thank you enough for the support, thanks so much for watching and I'll see you next timeIf you have any copyright issue, please Contact
