Alexandria one of the most historic cities in the world a place where I was founded around 300 B.C. a site where two of the greatest wonders of the world once stood bordering the mediterranean sea the largest ports in

food cities in the east i only have about a day and a half here so no let's waste time let's start our first table is in this area known as Meeting Bihari and there is a

market

stretching along this place where locals go for meats, fish, shellfish, vegetables. and you just walk around here you pick up what you want to eat there are loads of places that will just cook the food for you and this is a place a lot of people have told me if you want fresh fish at a good price this is where you go not go to the fish

market

coming here so let's go check this out this is such a lively market i mean whatever you are looking for fish veggies eggs chicken ok let's go get some Seafood i think and then ma maybe some bread, some herbs, I don't know, and then we'll go find a place that will cook it for us.

I think there's a big fish sale here. This particular stall is bursting. I think they are trying to get rid of it. of all this fish in this is a good offer at the moment this is what I expect when I come to each of the markets like this is good, let's choose some shellfish, let's buy some sardines. I don't know, the sardine sounds good. I'm kind of a peer pressure guy so I want some too so apparently we get invited in so often now it's half price and the sardine and I'm getting into a pound for ten pounds that's so cheap that it's like less than a dollar to have a gillip yeah yeah i don't know what that is but i like it Wow let's do it come on thanks street fight right now with a fish vendor he got me he got me. you know i love it when i go to a country and i can save some money this is great i'm so excited let's get some crab and other shellfish a kilo more e kilo a kilo ok ok listen this guy is good you got me with this guy I'm going to check out the four nope I just got a kilo of crab sixty pounds I'm buying all my fish from this gentleman right here you beat me in a fair and honest fight I've got my business Oh this is heavy already we gotta get some calamari we need some prawns for short and maybe some like little clams i feel like i need other things ok we have some crab too so we have some crab caught and then we have some plans our crab just went on the grill , so some of our stuff is grilled some of our stuff is fried wow that's what i call a crab on fire that crab is definitely on fire i have a feeling that this guy likes to burn things. oh oh ok ok ok if i got something i got to flip my own crab there you go ok ok let's get a little horny in here this ain't an easy job i'm telling you now this guy has it hard you are you are a good man you must be, You must be resilient, oh, I have respect for you, friend, you are my re.

and you realize there is nowhere to eat around here. you go to any of the surrounding cafes, sit down, order some tea and drink it, it's like the beginning of an avengers movie, most likely the anticipation is killing me. get a couple get a pack of freshly baked bread i haven't even started to eat and this experience is already driving me crazy this is one of the

markets i have ever been to again even before i tasted the food just because every one of the people I've interacted with has been absolutely beautiful.

I have been unbelievably lovely, kind and accommodating once you get your cooks cooked all this for 40 Egyptian pounds which is only a few dollars. I got the squid crab clams. and in sardines and they are cooked in different ways i guess i start with a squid oh this thing has been sitting in this little container for about 15-20 minutes it was really a framework for that but once i touched it is still very very crispy that's like fresh and as delicious as you will ever find calamari I wish I would put it in my mouth as soon as it came out of the fryer but even now the outside still changes this crunch inside there is the softest cooked sweet calamari what What I love about a job is that it's never just salt and pepper oh there's salt there's chilies there's pepper so many spices that make this one of the tastiest calamari dishes I've ever had and you don't need a sauce to dipping with it this is absolutely perfect on its own omg trust me omg you know how if you don't cook calamari right it turns to rubber not this tender baby for the pipe.

I'm going to skip these little clams because they've been stir fry so they've been sitting around for a long time I'm so sad there's going to be so much juice in here and it's going to evaporate Wow spicy we have the fresh herbs making a very aromatic little bits of parsley a little bit of sweetness from the tomato the clams themselves natural sweet flavor with that slight tiny bit of eNOS brine that makes you want to keep putting them in your mouth all of this as fresh as you can imagine they are so unbelievably sweet and flavorful mmm oh a bit of ginger too, it's not plain, you know it's never plain seasoned and that's what I love about this region because it has such a wide variety of spices.
I'm learning how to use them small sardines check this out it's such a beautiful little fish oh my gosh make sure you get a plate of fish with the outer shell on. they bread it's not fried again it's miss town miss go on a bit so it's nice crunchy it's like it probably was when you first appeared before you ran into a very delicate little lump don't worry about it when they pull I judge you c Chew that barrier but the nice thing about it is the flavor of the outside completely seeped into the fish look at the chilies and spices and all that great breading on the outside its lois our game theres nothing like one in a market of fish buying shellfish. straight up have someone cook for you and eat it right away the freshness the texture is amazing now imagine all of that in a country where but there are wizards and spices are used

gets exponentially better the only way to really know what i'm talking about. about let's come here and try this i mean all this food from cooking to getting the raw ingredients and trust me i have plenty of seafood all this for less than 20 bucks on the crab eat that for sure oh that's why i have the bread for fresh bread clean the insides of the crab fresh bread fresh seafood its really hard to get much better than it is now look at that succulent juicy crab fresh off the grill if you want a taste of a little thing thats so sweet you get so smoky and tender when same time this is where you're looking for we taste that slight bitterness from the grill such soft succulent crabmeat and on the outside when you're sucking on it let me rinse off i should lick it off and change the cumin and chillies and cilantro that i've eaten which means squab Grilled at my job, this is one of the best, actually this might be one of the best seafood experiences I've ever had.
There's Normally when you grill seafood, anything spies, things like this. I'm going to be a dishwasher for these garbage pickers coming out of my mouth. I'm going to use a piece of bread to wipe the juice off the crab because I'm wasting my nap. Check this out guys, I'll show you our little trick. I just started bread open it up show some calamari in there close that baby calamari sandwich some dipping sauce this will be even more perfect in this market too plus everyone i met. being the friendliest people in the world not o I tried to sell myself more.
I paid exactly the price. No one tried to give me a different price. They were all fair. Some people cooked my food. They even cooked the crap free for me which is like a treat. if you ever have a new job Alexandra is worth coming to i mean this is such a beautiful historical city it's beautiful it's by the sea it's been around for thousands of years it's one of the earliest human civilizations in the world come here place and soak up all this history and culture and enjoy this market if you love seafood I'm going to put this up as one of my best seafood adventures right here this is there is flavor in terms of value in terms of variety Sea whatever on top right now and after a crazy meal Troy a cup of tea I just said relax cause that's the way it's done here we have a little bit of the hustle and bustle and people are just taking the time I'm going to enjoy life a little look there people fishing walking eating sandwiches and just looking at the waters in this beautiful city it's just enjoying life it's like the perfect that's your lunch activity I had enough of this let's have a sandwich let's go on my way to get a very specialized sandwich it's a liver sandwich and we're going to get it right here this place that smells so good is what they put on little buns there's also some hue peppers and chillies you so amazing all right let's buy one oh my god oh wow how many 15 for three of you oh so one is too little no oh my god oh i gotta get more i need like this oh man i didn't know so normally you have to get at least ten .

I've never been told in my life I didn't want enough food I've never been told it's always the opposite I wanted too much I've learned my lesson I'm sorry I'll heat this up and then order more I was wondering why I like it I told you I told you he looked at me like they were just two and I'd like to know how many I need apparently I need a lot but look at this liver sandwich oh look at the oil and spices the chillies the peppers and some of the pieces are a little bit chopped on top you've got some solid bits ok ok so that i will redeem myself oh it doesn't even taste organic it just tastes like very clean chopped liver but just like the craziest mix of spices in the oil that drips on the bread makes this bread like this little sponge and container that soaked up all the essence of the sandwich and it's spicy and citrusy - spicy bryce because I took a giant bite out of the pepper the flavor of the liver mixed with the citrus of the lemon makes it absolutely transformative the little touch solution ue is the perfect look sel for this little chopped liver sandwich if i really want a color for what it is this is for biting i just want to try a chopped liver if you're not too much of an intellect organism i mean sometimes liver can have a very heavy organ taste doesn't mean this thing must have never drank in its life this is the cleanest liver I've found when you think of a liver sandwich you would never expect it to taste like this I never expected everything to taste like this this is what melts you the most mouth juicy little piece of heaven yeah they're right I mean I'm on my second sorry I didn't get it this is all such a light little sandwich.
I bet this is like a pre dinner. For most people I can't believe how good this is well we need to get more if I had left Egypt after having eaten two of these will you turn into the biggest fruit or go to my wife right now . i'm in the game my favorite sandwich herring

museum because that's how amazing this is oh hi too much chili hi ambitious for me i tell you what i don't care if you think you like liver or hum eat plate of nothing there's a reason this place is like spilling out on the streets with people right now this will probably be the food i miss the most after i go from egypt right here um believable ben will try this very good it's the best we had. in egypt this is amazing too one of these only about six pounds so fifty cents off like a dozen at least pasta this freshly baked lump very lightly sweet incredibly fluffy and soaks up the juice from the liver and lemon and we made sure that this really amazing mouthfeel is the perfect nest for this amazing liver for something like i said national treasure the best i had in egypt so far last night i passed out after eating the sandwiches i dont regret it because i really craved it last one in my mouth and before i start dreaming of being those sandwiches and this morning for

spread here counter Andrea well maybe maybe not it's this but check it out that's what we got we shot suka which is one of my favorite little easter egg dishes this is an egg cooked in tomato sauce, it is absolutely wonderful what we have here and a foodcommon here it's full it's a broad bean stew so this is broad beans over tehina and this is broad beans with chopped salad on top we've got some falafel you've got some shiny little condiments beats it pickles we're ready to rock and roll man, there is so well we were filming and some of these dishes turn out a little cold and they reheat it for us steaming hot dish of broad beans on tahini of course you have to get it with some bread.
I don't even know, you know why I have to start this, oh, I'm sorry, before I forget. You have to drizzle this with a little bit of citrus and the restaurant I'm at. place in this whole city for both locals and tourists like anyone who comes to Alexandria you have to come here for breakfast it is open 24 hours of that and so far even before you have the food the nicest people like thanks for warming this up for right this is glorious velvety broad beans as smooth as melt in your mouth beans with creamy tahini and just a squeeze of lemon juice just to give it a little zing I mean this will still fill you up it's delicious has Hina so automatically is the God level, then the father's basement.
I'm not a big fan of beans. I'm not, but I've never been with such finesse. on the palate and this is a hearty dish that I mean these things will fill your bowl with bread. extra crunch and juice and the sweetness of the onions and tomatoes this gives us so much more dimensional this is my jam here I'm going to let my chopped salad rest here okay but before that I have to try this this is a shocking show Cup I told you that one of my favorite dishes is some dishes mainly because my favorite dish growing up in china was egg and tomatoes so this makes me feel right at home oh my god this is so good it is the best ratio of sweet tomatoes fresh herbs the crunch of the onions the deliciously aromatic olive oil that makes this taste so amazing like you can't quite get to the bottom of this depth of flavor with the summary one of the best if not the best chuck chucka I've ever had tasted it in my life now granted I'v only eaten this a few times but it should be placed on a holy mantle.
I like it at the top of the pyramids. This right here. Wow, the number one dish here for sure, good fish. Get the phone to chop salad. it doesn't get better than this this could be the highlight i mean it sucks because it's not breakfast time but personally i don't imagine my day would be better than this Clouseau ooh it has butter falafel check this out the falafel here is much smaller and more airy than the one I had in that Cairo it's so crunchy oh my gosh this is almost like a diet version of a Cairo falafel it's so light I mean when you're in Cairo, you choose a falafel, I mean, you choose. lift it up a few more times your biceps could get bigger this is almost like you want to cover it with it it's so soft and light this is the lightest falafel I've ever had it's you flying falafel falafel i was eating wait for it to work out the problem with this one thing is amazing and you look at all the little spices on the outside it's also so tasty and ridiculously smooth and gentle aftertaste I mean lemme try this falafel on my shocked butts because this thing is so airy I imagine it'll soak things up Well that is definitely a parameter.
Food heaven is redonkulous. Get it dump dump. You also have a dump this in a tahini. I'm going to give it a little citrus. Wow this is so good I had to order a second plate. I'm serious now. it's like medium yeast tomatoes and eggs and it's only talking to my tomatoes an egg loving soul right now this this I mean all come and try this run 24 hours a day I wish I had more time in Alexandria and we're not done yet we have one more place to go before we get to the airport i end up in this poor country for some dessert according to the end foods in this country kind of sad this is a very very very cheap dessert place al that all the locals come this is called ohm ali its the E gypsy bread pudding yes you can have it with nuts but without of course i bought it with you i have some macadamia nuts almonds always loved bread pudding and this is one of the Moistest bread puddings I've ever had you can tell it's drowning it's like a swamp of bread pudding.
I had never seen anything like this. It's so interesting and nice and warm and toasty. If I were a girl, I'd be kneeling right now with a huge ring made of walnuts for something. Wow, I'm serious. it didn't look very pretty and i was thinking maybe the bread would be super soggy and not really very textured this is so warm angelica and the bread has a bit of a shoe on it and it has a nice texture with all that sweet milk soaked in it that milk it's a god thing I mean I'm pretty sure there's a holy cow somewhere in town when you're milking her for this particular dessert and I've got this hair ice cream again along with nuts and dried fruit too mmm this is basically ice cream and rice pudding Wow ok something huh go for this something cold go for this might suggest you have never heard of hot ice cream yes he is talking about this right?
I mean, I haven't been to many other cities in Egypt, yeah, but for me, at least between Cairo and Alexandria, even though Cairo is the capital, Alexandria should be the food capital. I mean the dishes I got here are so unique and completely different than what I had in Cairo and sorry Cairo people it's so much better I mean they put a car oh really good soup but this it's just that i will come back here just to eat from the seafood i had yesterday to deliver breakfast sandwiches to serve this is definitely a foodies destination and i just want to say the people here some of the kindest, warmest and most I've met anywhere in the world I mean Alexandria really this place will hold a special place in my heart especially coming here being able to try a completely different cuisine with complete ely different flavors at the same time so my glowingly delicious as a liver sandwich.
I love liver. I have eaten liver millions of times. I have never had liver like they serve here.
