May 29, 2021
Hello friends and welcome back to ktbcreas. Today I'm going to take you through 20 of my

best

DIYs of

2020

. So let's go ahead and start with number 20. For this one you'll need five of these. The square signs you can find on the

dollar

tree

happen to be Valentine's Day signs, but they are this shape all year round, so you should be able to find them. We'll start by hot gluing the edges of the signs. and then we're going to go ahead and reinforce all of that when you flip it back, we're going to add some big tongue depressor sticks to the back of each of the signs that I also went in before.

When I did that, I added a strip of tape adhesive just for safety and then once that's done we'll take some cardstock and cut it to the size that will fit the back of the signs. and then I'll take some regular old school glue and spread it all over the back of the cardstock and we'll stick it right on the back of the posters. This will do two things. It gives it a little more stability but also covers up some of that ugliness. You can also grab some brown craft paper if you really want it to finish really nice and add that to the back of the sign as well.

Once I had the five boards glued together I took some putty and putty the holes and the lines between the places where I glued them and then you want to make sure you sand them really good and then clean them and you're ready to paint it now to paint I used my Waverly chalk paint in white and I gave it two good coats of white chalk paint and then once I was done with the white chalk paint, I wanted to wear it down a little bit so I went in. with a few different shades I used the Waverly chalk paint and the mineral and silver liner and then to finish it off I just went in with my antique wax, just to, like I said, just to wear it down a little bit and give it a little bit of that. old world texture so that's what I'm doing here focusing on the edges more of what you know along the sign and then you're ready for your stencils.

I created these templates using my silhouette cameo and simply glued them on. on the boards and then I'm going to go in with my little brush and I'm just lightly applying some black acrylic paint. I didn't want it to be too heavy so I went in lightly with this. way it doesn't bleed and it does like I said, it looks a little more worn and old so once that was all done I ripped off my vinyl and then decided to go back and do some lines to do it. it looks more like the fin of a ship so that's what I'm doing here with a ruler and a pencil and I'm just going in and reconfiguring those lines that were on the sign at the beginning and all I'm doing with my pencil is just I rub it, I rub it a little bit just to make it look a little worn and I just rub it a little just so it looks a little worn and old and I do that for the entire sign and then once it's complete your sign is ready and This is a beautiful piece that you can use to add to it.

I use it on my front porch, but it's a covered front porch, so you don't want to get it wet, but it's a beautiful sign that you'll probably pay like 20 or 30 bucks so you could recreate it, I mean, with the paint and everything. I actually spent on this it was maybe six

dollar

s, very affordable and something easy to do and look like. beautiful, for those of you who are not regular subscribers, welcome to my channel. This will be a simple spring wreath, uh, it's very easy to make. I love making wreaths and in fact I like remaking wreaths so I often use wreath shapes I already have so this is one I had. It's just a vine wreath. You can find them at any craft store. It had the small print, a painted letter that I had from another crown. the ones you can buy at Hobby lobby have a nice selection of wooden letters and then that birdhouse is just a little birdhouse I found at the dollar

tree

and all I do is walk in with a bunch of greenery and some flowers of spring. some of my favorites just to adorn the greenery.
I usually buy all of that at Walmart and Dollar Tree, so just a little flour, a little lavender, and a little greenery and arrange it all to my liking before I go in. and hot glue anything just to make sure I'm happy with how everything looks. Then once you're ready, you'll go in and hot glue all of your pieces together. The nice thing about the vine meats is that you don't have to use a lot of hot glue, you can stick the stems onto the vine and they should look pretty good, so I wanted to add a little more color to this wreath so I used some of the dollar.
I made little speckled eggs just to add a little more color and fill in some of the holes and that's it, it was a very simple wreath to make and it looks absolutely beautiful and it's just a nice muted pastel color that adds a little touch to your spring

decor

ation is fine for next time. This is an idea that I came up with from an item I bought at a thrift store, so it was cute, but it was a little more of that kind of primitive, American

decor

that's not quite my style, so everything What I did was go in and take everything apart and I just wanted that little staircase, so what I did was do a little stain with a little bit of burnt umber and a little bit of water just to warm up the wood a little bit. a little bit and what I'm going to make with this is a hanger for my jewelry and necklaces and bracelets and things like that, um, and you can actually make something like this with some cheap wood from Lowe's or Home Depot, um, but it's really different.
The idea is that it's like a

farmhouse

look, um, and a way to store your jewelry, so once I dyed it, I bought these little C hooks from Amazon and I'm just measuring where I want to place them evenly on the bottom of the ladder and then. on the top I'm also going to put some to hang bracelets and things like that, so that's all I'm doing here is marking everything so I know where to screw those hooks and that's it, it's a very easy project to do , this is what it looks like, all finished, I have a lot of jewelry, I wear a lot of fashion jewelry, uh, with my, you know, my full-time job, so it's cool because it hangs. all my bracelets on the top could rest like little earrings and rings and things like that and then obviously on the bottom they could hang like your long necklaces and things like that so I loved this idea I thought it was a very very good idea and Um, something Maria swore everything, so let's move on to the next project, this is another spring project that I did.
I just grabbed two dollar tree balls, a larger soccer ball and then a small softball, these are the foam balls and I'm going to I made a bunny topiary with this and all I did was go in and paint with a little green acrylic paint. You could probably use brown too, but just something to cover, obviously, the bright colors that are on the balls, um, because let's go ahead, cover the balls with the reindeer, the green reindeer moss from the dollar tree, so that is what I'm going to do here once it's all painted and dry, you're just going to hot glue some reindeer moss over all those balls, um, really.
Well, go in wherever you see, you know, missing and keep doing it until you're happy with the way it looks. Then once you're done with that, you're just going to go in and trim it with a pair of scissors just to cut off the excess and make a nice round circle with it and then all I did was take a little cube. I know they have something very similar on the dollar tree. I took one of the long skewers and I'm just measuring them so I can get them through both balls and then stick them nicely into the bucket so you can secure them pretty well, then I wouldn't get that skewer dirty with some old wax.
Just to finish that up a little bit and then you're ready to put it together now for the ears, I grabbed some pipe cleaners now, if you have a brown pipe cleaner I guess that would work better, but all I had on hand was some white so I took some thread and I just wrapped it around two pieces of pipe cleaners and that's what you're going to make the ears with, so it's a little bit of a tedious product, but it works well and then all you're going to do is attach them. on the smaller um ball and fold them over so they look like ears and then I also hot glued the ends just for added security now to make sure it stays on the cube really well you're going to want to add some floral foam to the bottom and then secure it by adding a bunch of dollar tree stones into the cube also now i wasn't too happy with the way the ears were looked like i wanted to add a little more texture to them so i had this yarn left over from a project a long time ago and it's like an off-white speckled thread, so I decided to go in and add it to the ears and spaced them out so you could still see the brown string, but I felt like it added a little more fun and whimsy and made the ears pop a little more, so I just hot glued the ears on. bottom piece of the foam ball and then I just went in and twisted it around my ears and was happy with the way it looked.
I liked it a little more than just the string ears and then to top it all off I had some. of that thread and then two pieces of twine and I just went ahead and made a simple bow around the bunny's neck on top of the second ball and that's it and you're done with that and then it's a beautiful decoration for inside your house, your house for spring and this was actually an inspiration piece, or I guess I would say a hoax because it's pretty similar to the one I saw back in the day when pier one was still open, this was a decor piece I saw in the store and I thought it was adorable but overpriced and I thought I could definitely recreate it for a lot cheaper so this is what I came up with, let me know what you think.
Hey, okay next time. one this is definitely one of my favorites I love the way it all turned out so I'm creating a master bedroom accent piece so all I'm using are embroidery hoops and some flower stems so this one it's a big embroidery hoop that doesn't I don't know if it's a quilting hoop someone should tell me if they know what it's used for because I've never seen one that big but I found it at a thrift store so I'm using a big one and I go later. To use a medium size embroidery hoop and a smaller one, I don't remember the inches, but I'll put the original video in the description box, so if you want the details on everything, I'll definitely go ahead and put everything. of the original videos of all these DIYs in the description box in case you want to see those videos, so all I'm going to do is organize them.
I decided to just use some eucalyptus and some peonies. I love peonies. Beautiful, I think I bought them at Walmart, so all I'm doing here is fixing everything I like to use, but reusing my flowers and things like that when I like to change things up, so I try not to apply too much hot glue. so I'm securing everything with my floral wire um and you know, I'm just putting everything up until I'm happy with the way everything looks if you don't want this to be too feminine if you want. I know I use it for a master bedroom.
My husband didn't care so he was fine with doing this, but you could use a bunch of different greenery like eucalyptus and, I know some lamb's ears and just different types of greenery, and just take. I bring out the floral, the floral aspect, but I love the way it looks, I think it's just beautiful, it's a light and airy touch, um, and it's not too much, so the only thing I'm doing here is arranging everything and then For the Next step I just took a medium sized embroidery hoop and split it in two so I have two circles and then the smaller one with two circles and I want it to match the smaller one and the medium sized one so that's it.
What I'm doing here is arranging the flowers and greenery to mimic each other and then I'll do the same. Obviously, I'll connect them all and hot glue what I need. and then you're all ready to go, um now for the decorative piece, I used a long birch log that a neighbor had that we cut down so you can use any type of wood, you can get wood and something like antique if you wanted to hang it from there, but how beautiful it looks. I love it. I simply hung the hoops with a lace ribbon and like I said, on that birch log, this is the focal point over our bed in our master bedroom.
I'm so excited with the way it looks, it's very different and unexpected but beautiful at the same time, so definitely let me know what you think about this one and if you've been here long enough, you know I have. I like playing that game and I love hearing from my subscribers, so tell me which one is your favorite of the 20 of these, which one is your favorite, because that helps me plan what I'm going to do in thefuture. because I know what you guys like to see, so next time we're going to move on to some patriotic decor and Again, this was something that I recreated from Pinterest, but I love taking items that you see on Pinterest and recreating them with items from Dollar Tree and not spend so much so all I'm doing here is deepening my blue acrylic paint for more of a navy blue and I have these flip flops that you can find at the dollar tree during the summer and I'm going to paint one with navy paint and then the another one, we'll paint it white and then we'll do some red stripes on the other one and it'll take two or three coats of acrylic paint.
You'll see acrylic paint and that's why we often love chalk paint because it's much thicker. You don't need as many coats of chalk paint as you do when using acrylic paint, so once you were done, I went back in and marked with pencil where the little straps for the flip flops went. because I'm going to paint that like a different brown or a different color, so that's all I'm going to do here and then you're going to go in and tape your stripes for the red and white stripes, so that's all I'm going to do. here and I'm just using painter's tape uh I think this is like an inch yeah this is a one inch painter's tape and I'm just using, you know, the one that marks the space and that's how I'm creating my stripes . and then I did the same thing with the red paint, I deepened it a little bit and I'm going to paint the stripes in red and again you're going to do two or three coats of that as well.
I'm going to skip where the little sandal strap is because I'm going to show you shortly how we're going to paint them and that took me a little while to decide what I was going to do with it. I was originally going to leave them white, but I just didn't like the way it looked, I felt like I don't know, I felt like I wanted a little more texture color variation, so I went ahead and painted the straps more of a brown color, so that's what I'm going to show you here, so I went in and started with a burnt shadow and I wanted the idea to be that it looked more like a straw texture, um, no I don't know how else to describe what I was imagining. , so when I like to do more of a wood straw type texture, I always use burnt umber, a caramel and mocha apple barrel paint color, to create that.
I go in with my burnt shadow base and cover everything well with that, then while everything is still wet I usually go in with my other shades. Now here I did it a little differently, I let everything dry, but you'll see. As I continue to paint, the real effect happens when everything is still wet because you're mixing all the different tones, and that can only happen when the paint is wet, so I'll let you watch me do it. which here and then for a little decoration for the sandal that you're going to make, I'm going to make a yarn bow, so I just twisted a bunch of yarn together, made like two different bows with it and just hot glued them together.
It's a little hard to describe how to do it, but you see what I'm doing here and then you just lay out the thread and it looks like a little flower, so I love the way it looked and then I just warmed up to it. I glued them directly onto the flip flops and then embellished it a little with some little sparkly pearl stickers I had left over in my stash. I love how it looks and then I just hot glued the flip flops together. Now the funny thing is when I originally made this they said you know, everyone commented saying I have two of the two left flip flops.
I didn't notice at all, so you could turn one inside out to make it look like it was a straight shoe. but I didn't realize that while I was making it but everyone pointed it out to me but anyway I love how it looks it's such a cute little decorative piece I added you see I added some white stars that I cut out of my vinyl machine for the blue flip flop and it's just a cute door hanger or anything to decorate with patriotic decor, uh, for the summer months and I love the way it turned out in the next one, let's move on to some fall decor.
For this one, I love how it turned out. I love these little wooden houses that you can get at the Dollar Tree. When they became available, I bought a whole box of them online because I'm obsessed with them. You could do many things. with them, so you see all I was doing here is I took some cookie sheets from the dollar tree and I cut them out so that we can put them on the back of the houses and make them look like some galvanized metal, like this which I cut them accordingly and now I'm going to go in and paint the wood around the house and the front of the houses and then I edge the inside of the houses just to make sure that you can.
I don't see any of that, none of that colored paper once you put the metal on and then I went in and distressed it a little bit by dry brushing some Waverly antique wax on all the white pieces that we painted for the cookie sheets and making the galvanized metal um, you see, I do a lot of this on my channel. I love the way it looks so all I do is take a makeup sponge and I just use white chalk paint, I use gray acrylic paint and then a metallic silver acrylic paint and that's how I create my galvanized metal.
I know everyone has a different method but that's what I think works

best

for me and oh I also use a Waverly elephant so it's like a darker gray too just to give it a different variation so that's it what I did here and showed you what it looked like and then once they were done I went in and wanted to add some texture to the edges. So I just wanted to give it more of a rust look so I just went in with my Waverly antique wax around the edges and did that and then you're ready to glue everything together.
I love using my Gorilla glue and all I did was start by gluing two of the houses together sideways like this and then I glued the other two together and once they were dry I glued the four pieces together so you'll see on the next slide what it looks like. all when they're all together so I wanted to put the letters on these signs so I took the dollar tree stickers and I wanted them to look a little worn so I'm just dry brushing some white acrylic. paint the letters that I'm going to use to spell fall and then you're ready to go ahead and stick them right on your sign.
Now this isn't going to look as good because I painted them so I went in and sprayed it with a clear sealant or you can modify pop mod podget if you really want to do it just to make sure everything stays in place and then you're ready to decorate so I just took some different selections and stuff like that. I had it stored in my stash just to add some interest to the sign in different places and decorate it a little and it's such a cute way to dress up your home for fall. I love decorating for fall.
It's probably my favorite. holiday or season I guess to decorate for something other than the Christmas season so I love the colors and everything so this is just a cute piece and a different way to use those houses to make something beautiful for your home and this is what it's going to look like when it's all done, okay, next time we'll stay here in the fall season and do another fall project, so you just need one of these long, rectangular signs that they have on the dollar tree. all year round for all seasons, um, any type will do and you want to remove that piece that says happy fall and sand it because it has a shiny texture and we're going to paint it waverly white. chalk paint and white.
Now I grabbed some of these cork board stickers that you can find at the dollar tree that will be your front piece again. It's just a different look to add a little texture to your decor instead of just painting. Everything, so that's all I'm doing here is sticking it on your sign and then, um, and then we're going to go ahead and decorate from there and honestly, this sticks really well, you see, I had to reposition it. a little bit so it really stays in place really well if you're going to use this for different projects or even use it as a cork board it's really nice so once you're done with that we'll use it. one of these burlap leaves that you can find during the fall season like the a in the fall and then I'm going to create the other letters using my vinyl cutting machine so all I did here was add a little bit of leaf variation , so I just went in with some Waverly antique wax and just highlighted around the edges just to make it look a little more weathered and then you're going to cut the stem off as well so that top piece there, I just added my lettering vinyl that will say happy and then you'll stick your vinyl letters along with your sheet to spell fall and again this one is super easy to make it takes like five minutes I pretty much put it all together because you're not doing much painting and you can also use the stickers from the dollar tree if you don't have a vinyl cutting machine.
I just added a little bit of twine to the top and bottom just to give it a little more interest and this is what it looks like. You can use this inside. I used it on my covered porch as decoration for fall, but it is a very easy piece to make and looks great. Well, move on to the next one. It's going to be another second-hand investment. This was actually a mirror that my sister had given me, so she loved it. She wasn't using it. It's lovely. Yes, it is a beautiful piece of solid wood, but I am going to paint it and in fact, I am also going to use this as a decor piece in my master bedroom, so I love the way it is like a worn mirror, dirtier and distressed, and all I really went in and did with this piece was I lightly dry brushed it in different shades of I used white paint and I used some, I think, Waverly elephant and some silver lining, just to add some texture to it, I concentrated a little more on the corners where I painted a little more than the other parts of the mirror until I was happy with how it looked and then I just placed some floral decoration and some burlap in the corner of the mirror just to dress it up a little , so I just took some lambsia and different greens along with a little bit of lavender and stuff like that and I took some old burlap ribbon that I had that I wasn't using and I created a nice bow with it and I'm actually gluing everything together with heat in the corner until I'm happy with how it looks it's a very simple project to do and it looks beautiful and I got it late uh like leaning against another mirror in my master bedroom so it came out beautiful so hear this for the next DIY this is another dupe so this was a sign i saw on I don't remember if it's Wayfair or Ballard Designs but it's a house sign and I'm going to recreate it using elements from the dollar tree so I just grabbed a regular white foam board . and I didn't cut it or anything.
I'm using the exact size the foam board comes in and I'm just dry brushing different colors so I use mineral and silver liner and dry brush all over the foam. board, this is what it looks like when you finish dry brushing. Now I'm measuring where I'm going to add a wood edge. I used some wood that I bought at Lowe's or Home Depot. That's the only piece, the only part you have. I'm going to get something that's not Dollar Tree, so that's all I'm doing here. I'm deciding where the wood moldings are going to go and then I measure my letters and mark them. in pencil, so let's spell the word home.
If I could find the original image, I'll definitely add it here so you can see what I'm imitating, but like I said before, I'll link all the original videos I made about these in the description box below, so if you liked a certain project and you really want to get more detailed information about him, you can go ahead and watch those videos below, you'll just need some of that cop. lanyard in black dollar tree and you're going to go ahead and cut it according to your different letters and we're going to hot glue it on the board now I'll say this is where I actually have a detailed hot glue gun It's helpful, I didn't right now, but you definitely want to use a detailed hot glue gun so you don't get too much glue leaking over the edges, but I just wiped it off with my with my fingers um, so that's all I'm doing here, you're just going to adhere it with a little bit of hot glue and that's how you're going to create your letters and then like I said, I created my frame using some wood and I went ahead and stained it, diluted some gray acrylic paint and created kind of a stain gray for that, so that's what I'm doing here and then once it's all dry, you're ready to go ahead and glue the frame on properly. on top of your foam board and for that I like to use my clear Gorilla glue so that's what I'm doing here so I just apply it around the frame and then you're going to go ahead and turn it around and glue the one right on the frame and your sign is complete and I love the way it turned out.
I don't remember how much the original sign cost, but it was definitely a lot more than you imagine, maybe the three dollars I spent making this, so I think it's pretty impressive so for the next one we're going tochangeLet's go back to a fall decor piece again and I'm just going to remove the little bows that are on these little wooden dollar tree pumpkins, so what you're going to need. I used four of them and I'm customizing them so you'll see why I used four and then you'll take some scrapbooking paper that I got in the hobby lobby and measure it according to the size of the pumpkins once you've figured everything out. that.
Go ahead and paint your pumpkins with any type of orange paint, whatever you have. I just used something that I had on hand, acrylic paint, so with acrylic paint you're going to have to do like I think three or four coats of this, you can leave them. the flat on one side because that's where we're going to put the scrapbook paper uh so I'm just doing that's what I'm doing here painting all the edges and the back of the pumpkins now I personalize them. You can do the same if you're using like a stamp set or some dollar tree stickers.
I customize mine using my vinyl cutting machine, but it's something you can easily recreate as well, and then I grabbed one of the little wooden houses that I'm going to put out. back and I apply some scrapbook paper to the back of that piece uh so that's all I'm doing here and then so I was deciding what scrapbook paper I was going to use I ended up choosing the one you see here and we are. I'm just going to stain the exterior wood pieces of the house just to give it a finished look and I love using my Waverly Antique Wax as a stain for a nice quick stain, it's easy to use so that's all I'm doing here and then you.
I'm just going to go ahead and glue your scrapbook paper to the back of the house and for that I just use a simple glue stick, it's the easiest way to apply it and then I used a little bit of hot glue to put it back on. build my house and You'll see in the finished video, I personalized it with Welcome to our patch and then I put my friends' names, their family and their kids' names on the pumpkins so you can personalize it however you see fit and use as many pumpkins as you like. you want. create a family if that's what you choose to do and then I decorated the house with some of the little pumpkin stickers that you can also get at the dollar tree so now let's move on to the Christmas decorating.
For this project, I'm again recreating something I saw on Pinterest using elements from the dollar tree, so you'll need three of those rectangular signs that you can find on the dollar tree all year round, you'll stick them on, and then I just grabbed some depressor sticks from tongue and glued them to the back of the sign as well for added security. Then you're going to turn it around and we're going to paint the front. Now you can add some brown craft paper. the back of this if you wanted to give it to someone or really finish it so you don't see it so this is not the back that you see so just a little tip for you if that's what you're looking to do. with your piece, but what we are creating here is a sign to hang Christmas cards on.
This is a Christmas-themed project, but you can recreate it and use it all year round, like for to-do lists, calendars, or different things. so to help you get organized so what I'm doing here is creating an inspiration piece that I saw he was using, obviously they were using real wood so what I wanted to do here was go in and create the look of real wood. or like wood panels, so all I did was use this. I think I used my old Waverly wax here and just went in and sporadically spread this into all three holes.
You don't have to get perfect coverage. with it because you want some of that brown particle board to show through because it helps add texture and then I used a little bit of different acrylic paint and I'm dry brushing it with the brush that I love to use. Dry brushing so I do it in a mocha color and a caramel apple barrel paint color and that's what I always use to create my kind of faux wood finish so all I'm doing again is just dry brush all the different shades mixed together. and the key here is to not let anything dry between coats because you want it to blend perfectly, so I'm just going to keep adding these pieces until I'm happy with the way it looks visually and then you.
You're all set and you're ready to decorate, so to adhere your pieces and hang your cards, all you're going to need is some twine and we're going to hot glue it to the back of the frame and then we're just going to wrap it tightly around the front and you'll continue doing that throughout the entire length of the sign. You want to leave a little space at the top because we're going to add a little sticker um to the top and we're going to dress it up with some flowers so you want to do that, but then you're just going to wrap the twine in a zigzag type formation and you're just going to heat it up. .
I glued the top and bottom and then I used some mini um, mini uh clothespin. I think I bought them at the Dollar Tree. You can also get them at any craft store. They're a little flimsy, though I'll say that if you can. Get it like a sturdier type from probably the craft store, um, or a slightly larger clothespin, which would probably work better because I broke quite a few of these, but you'll see, you'll see what you'll see, the size I have. I'm using them now, but they're that super small size and I think I got them at the dollar tree, so you're just going to stick them all over the twine and that's what's going to hold your Christmas cards. and then to decorate the top I'm going to add a little sticker that I created on my machine that says "happy mail" and then on top we're just going to hot glue some flowers and some twine with glue hot for the top as a hanger and that's it it's pretty simple to make it really didn't take much time other than painting and letting it dry it's a pretty simple project and like I said it's so cute you can use this as something in your house, um, all year round, like I said, just for organizing and hanging, you can even use it as a display for your kids' artwork and things like that.
It would be a cute, cute way to wear it, but definitely very versatile. piece so all I'm doing here is finishing it off with a beautiful Christmas type floral and you're all set let me know what you think about this one this is one of my favorites I love this foreign one the next one is also Christmas decoration you can actually use this will probably last all winter depending on what scrapbook paper you use for the back so all I'm doing here is again using three different sizes of those little house shapes and I went in and painted all the wood pieces and the front of the house with my acrylic or my white chalk paint, so that's all I'm doing here and then all we're going to do is cut out some scrapbook paper to put on the back of the house and my scrapbook paper says Merry Christmas, but like I said, if you just use it as snowflake paper or something simple, you can use them throughout the winter season if you want to keep some decorations up all winter long , so now I'm just going to apply my scrapbook paper to the back of the houses using a regular glue stick.
I chose this paper because it was red and the decorations that we're going to put on it are white, so I wanted something that kind of made the white decoration pop a little bit, so I chose the red one and then we're going to take it. I love these decorations. They are always at the dollar tree during Christmas time so you definitely want to get there when First they start putting everything out because they are really hard to find after that but it's the white trees with branches and then the little white deer and I did one white, white, uh, church, uh, so all I'm going to do is really cut. the tree, the tips of the trees to fit the houses and it's just to make it look more like a 3D effect, so I put the deer on the inside of the house and then the tree on the outside edge of the house. like I said just to make it seem more like a 3D look, this is a very easy project to do, it's really just painting the houses and the scrapbook paper and that's all you're doing so I'm just applying. the trees the way I like, trying to decide what I was going to use, but I decided to stick with the trees because I love the look of them, so you just cut the tips off, which is easy to do, it's nice. plastic they are made out of just so they fit into houses and that's how they all look finished.
I went ahead and decorated these with some of that buffalo snow so you could leave them plain without the snow. I just thought it added some texture and a cute little look with it, you can also use some Epsom salt and mod podge and make something like glitter snow if you want me to do that too, so this is optional, just something. It's different to decorate it a little bit, but I love the way they came and for this DIY we're going to do one more holiday type decor piece using again a rectangular dollar tree sign that you're going to paint one side of. white and you're going to want to apply two or three good coats of this paint and then we're going to go ahead and make it look like, um, I guess it overlaps like an old piece of shiplap wood, and you'll see what I mean in the next clip , so I'm going to create some lines to look like different sized pieces of wood and I'll do it with a simple pencil and a ruler and then I'll go in.
With a little bit of paint, I usually rub it with my finger just to make it look like it's blending and make it look old, but I wanted it to be a little more noticeable, so I ended up putting a little bit of paint on it and a It's not like that, you know, a kind of line with some black and gray acrylic paint. I also wanted to create some little nails or studs on the edge, so that's all I'm doing here with a pencil, not a super you. I know the perfect circle, something different to make it look like there were cloves in there and then I went ahead and created a little wreath using some greenery and these are berries that I got from the dollar tree and I just went ahead and twisted them.
All together and I created a little crown and this is where I came in and decided to highlight those lines a little more. I didn't like the way it couldn't be seen, so that's all I do. doing here and you knew it would make those little bolts or nails a little darker too, so I decided to go in with the dollar tree that has this vinyl chalkboard and then I created a stencil that says believe it or not a stencil, I created some stickers that say " believe in it," so I just cut a piece of chalkboard vinyl to fit inside that wider piece of faux wood there that I just glued on and then I'm going to put the word believe vertically down that black stripe and now you're ready to hang your little wreath, so here I am measuring where I want my wreath to hang.
This is a tape that I personally sent to Michael years ago, so he was just cutting it accordingly and then decided that that little black piece needed a little more. I wasn't happy with the way it looked so I'm finishing the edges with a white chalk pen and doing it nicely. like a seam border around it and I think it's the perfect touch to finish it off so now you're ready to hot glue your wreath and ribbon right on the back of your sign and then all I did was create a simple little bow . to hang right at the top and hot glue it on and you're done with your sign and again, this is like a quick and easy beautiful piece of decor for the holidays.
Hey, for the next one we're going to create some kind of You know, what those round wooden signs look like, that's what I imagined here, but it's a fake sign that uses elements from the dollar tree, so I found this on the tree of the dollar in the kitchen section and it's basically a big sticker that you could Stay behind your stove, I guess that's what it's used for, but I just wanted that center circle with a little saying because I thought it was adorable, so everything I What I'm doing is cutting out that circle that you're also going to need. a piece of foam board because we're going to glue it right on the foam board and that's going to be your base for your faux wreath wood sign so all I'm doing here is gluing it right to the foam board and you want to make sure you apply a lot of pressure where the lines are so it's nice and smooth and you can't see those lines when you're done and then all you're going to do is take an x-acto knife or a pair of scissors and you're going to cut around from the edge of the foam board sign.
I will say that scissors are not the way to go, you definitely want to use an x-acto knife and a sharp blade and then I then grabbed these little eyeball balls that I found. I bought a bunch of them because I knew I could use them. You could also use the ping pong balls from the dollar tree, but that's all I'm doing here. I'm taking a floral wire anda long needle and I'm just going to thread them onto the wire and this will create sort of the faux wooden balls that you would see around the edge of a wreath or frame. or something like that, so the only thing you're going to want to do with these is there's a hole on one edge, so I'm just using my hot glue gun to melt another hole on the opposite end and that's how we're going to thread it. all the eyeballs and then once that's all done, we're going to go ahead and spray paint the balls with um.
I'd like to use my Rust-oleum ultra coverage in white because it's the best coverage, so you'll just go ahead and spray paint all the balls. just to get an even white coverage and then I went in and painted them with some antique wax to give them that firm wood finish so this is what it all looks like together you know you're just going to hot glue the wood or the balls. around the edge and then you're ready to decorate the top and I just went in with some eucalyptus and made a cute bow and some other pictures depending on what kind of season we're in you can arrange it.
Make it however you want and I just glued them all together. with hot glue and then your sign is ready. I also went in and applied some dry white chalk paint over the lettering on the side just to make it again look a little less like a piece of aluminum and perfect. I wanted to look more old world style so I love the way this came and again you would never know by looking at it that it was created from cardstock and a sticker and stuff like that so it definitely shows. high end and it's a beautiful piece of decor to add to your collection and you want to make sure you go ahead and once you're done just apply a little more hot glue just to make sure everything stays in place and Here's how You see the finished piece.
I think it's absolutely adorable. You'll have to tell me what you think. I always love hearing from you. So let me know. Hey, this was definitely one of my most popular junks to hoard or recycle. The type of pieces that I made are very simple, you just need one of these large Folgers coffee cans and it's a hard, thick, sturdy plastic, and I went ahead and with some chalk paint and painted everything that you definitely want to do, like three or four. layers of it to make sure we get full coverage and the top piece we're going to paint to look like a faux wood boat lid so I went in and painted the white black and then you'll see a little bit A little bit later we'll talk about what we make it and then I just took some letters and made a sticker that says this and you can use this for many different storage pieces.
I use it for extra long glue sticks, I love it. gorilla glue sticks and they fit perfectly here so that's what I use to store my glue sticks so it looks so cute when it's finished and now I'm going to show you how I make my wooden lid so that You know, in the projects previous ones I like to create my faux wood with three different shades using apple barrel acrylic paint in burnt umber mocha and a caramel tone and you're really going to go in and paint, paint it all over, um, no. You don't have to be careful about it, you want it to look messier, you want it to look like faux wood.
The key here, obviously, as I've said in previous projects, is to apply each color while the previous color is still wet because you want it that way. so it all comes together, so that's all I'm doing here, so I'll stop talking and let you see how it all comes together. Then I took a wooden knob that I bought on Amazon and painted that too. I glued it to the top of the lid and then as a final touch I'm going to introduce some mod podge and I'm going to modify everything because the paint will come off because it's just plastic, another idea could be to paint the can with paint Rustoleum ultra white spray that might stick a little better to the plastic but that's why I add the mod podge coat to this just to make sure it doesn't chip and the sticker stays. and it held up pretty well, so for this next project you're going to use four of the decorative canvas frames, they're small squares and I bought this template at, I think, Walmart, so I'm just going to use that big template just to create a little one. neat pattern on the back of the sign, so I started by removing all the canvas, sorry I'm losing my words now, but I removed all the canvas with my, my blade here and you want to go ahead and make sure you remove all the canvas, it's a little tricky to do, some of them turned out better than others or easier to remove than others, but you definitely want to remove everything because We're going to use the frame, so we're going to paint them and then adhere the canvas to the back of the frame, like this which you'll see what I mean in the next few clips so here I'm going to go in and I'm going to paint or stain the wood frames with my Waverly Antique Wax so you're going to want to paint all four of them on the front and back now I went in and painted the entire canvas. uh with my Waverly white chalk paint and you want to make sure you get full coverage so I think I did about two coats of that and I'm actually going to give it to someone so I painted the sign on the side of the sign that was already. uh done uh because I didn't know I wanted the back to look more finished, that's why I chose to do this.
If you're just using it for yourself, you can obviously leave the white on the back and use it like that. That's just one explanation of why I'm going to the trouble of painting the finished side of the canvas and then we're going to take our stencil and apply it to each of the canvases and then I'm going to go ahead and paint now, I messed this up a little bit, you'll see , I came back with some white chalk paint just to make it stand out a little less, but you want to go in with your sponsor and very, very slightly bounce off.
I'm using mineral paint on top here. You don't want it like it doesn't have to be perfect. You will see that it is not visible. I'm adding a lot of paint, but when I remove the stencil you definitely see it and I want it to blend a little more into the background so it looks beautiful, but I went ahead here and just blotted. I applied a little more white paint just to soften it a little because we are going to put letters on top and now you are ready to reapply the wooden frames to your canvas so I decided to go ahead and do it this way so I used hot glue .
You could use Gorilla glue if you want. You know, a real permanent finish, but it went on really well, so you just want to be quick with it, so I'm applying it evenly and centering it. directly onto the canvas for all four frames and then you're going to go ahead with your exact knife and just trim the edges where the canvas you know overlaps and then once you're done with that you're ready to add your vinyl lettering to it. I'm just using some round vinyl and I'm going to use i. I made the letters um h m and e and then for the o you'll see we're just going to Make a little green wreath with some greenery that I bought at Walmart, so I'll let you guys see how it all comes together for this DIY again, something super simple to do but at the same time.
Once so adorable and a neat little decorative piece, these are the great wooden slices. from arteza and I think they are amazing you can use them for so many different things so I went ahead and created a faux stain using burnt umber and a little bit of water and that's all I'm doing here is staining the front and the back and all we're going to do is make a little pedestal like a decorative pedestal using these wooden feet, I guess you'd call them balls of some kind. I bought them through Amazon so we're just going to go ahead and stain them as well and it's pretty simple all we're going to do is glue them to the bottom of the wood slice and then you're going to decorate.
You can leave it like that if that's what you choose to do, but I used it again as a gift and I went ahead and created some vinyl letters with the person's initial, so that's what I'm doing here, just applying it right in the center and I think it's so cute and unique uh and something different that you can give as a gift and then I went ahead and sealed the piece with some mod podge so again you'll see I had some issues with some of the stickers that stayed oh , before I did it, I forgot, I moved on. and I aged it a little bit by dry brushing some white chalk paint over the letters to make it look a little more old world and then I also added that to the edge of the bark and then I started saying definitely I want to go ahead and stamp the piece, whether it's like a clear spray paint that you use, uh, but I went ahead and sealed the piece with a little bit of mod podge to make sure the letters stay in place so you can meet you.
I can use it for drinks or different things if you want to put a candle or something and then also with these pieces of wood I modify the edge where the bark is because it will wrinkle and fall off so I sit. like if you go ahead and use a mod podge and seal it, everything will stay together a little better and that's it, it's a pretty simple and easy project to do, but you can still personalize it and use it for gifts and stuff like that. like this and I thought it was so cute and simple and here is the final result so this was also a really easy project to make and it definitely got so many rave reviews that I had to include this one so I'm just grabbing a pizza pan from the tree of the dollar and I'll give it two or three coats of my white chalk paint and then it was time to decorate, so I made a little greeting phrase with my cameo and applied it. to the bottom of the sign and then I'm going to finish the piece using some dollar tree nautical rope and I'm just going to hot glue it to the edge of the pizza pan and then I'm just going to go ahead and decorate with some of greenery or flowers, however you choose to decorate it with your color scheme.
I wanted to keep it very neutral, so I went in and went ahead with some simple greenery and then did um. some simple bows and I just applied them to the top and applied a small piece of twine to the back so you can hang it. You can use this as a wreath, you know, for your door or inside your house. I ended up gifting this to my sister, who actually uses a small plate holder and only has it as a decorative piece in her kitchen, so I think it's a cute way to display it too, and I love the way this piece turned out and finally.
What I think was my most popular DIY and probably one of my favorites of the year is this simple sign I made using the 16 inch round plate. It's a plastic plate that you can find in the wedding section of the Dollar Tree and I just painted that, I think I'm using gesso paint here, uh, for this sign and I just gave the sign two or three coats in the color of the plaster, so I took Waverly and elephant chalk paint and just applied my painter's tape. to where I wanted to tape and I'm just going to paint that strip there with the gray paint and then once I was done, I went ahead and dry applied some of the gesso paint just to make it look a little more rustic. and then I painted, I ended up painting this on plaster because I only had white vinyl and I wanted it to be off-white, so that's what I was doing there and then I went ahead with some nautical rope to finish the edge of the plate and as you can see I finished it to personalize.
It has all the names of my mother's grandchildren. So it was a gift for her and I love the way it turned out. I think it's adorable. You can customize it and do it. It's either way, you think if you wanted to make it as a gift, but I love the way it looks, you'd never guess again that it's from the dollar tree and it only cost you, you know, maybe two dollars to make it like that again. It is something very easy, simple and profitable, so I hope you have enjoyed this mega video with my 20 most popular DIYs of the year.
