Anti-Smoking Campaigns on Tik Tok

May 31, 2021
This time I'll take the lead. Wait for the anti-

smoking

camp. Anti-

smoking

campaigns

. I think we are all aware of many anti-drug and anti-cigarette

campaigns

. Basically, they are children's programs that could be in schools or could appear on television to discourage children from using drugs or smoking cigarettes. I made a video before about the challenge which was primarily an anti-drug campaign, but the thing about the challenge is that I think there was a slight statistical increase in kids doing it. drugs that went through the dare program and I have not seen an anti-drug campaign like dare that is statistically proven to prevent children from using drugs, but the positive thing is that anti-smoking campaigns work as part of dare and other anti-smoking campaigns. campaigns that are essentially programming for children, whether on television or in schools, to stop them from smoking cigarettes.

That's more or less what I just said, but I'll say it again. They have been proven to work if I remember the statistics correctly and show them on the screen, I think since 2000 there was 23.5 percent of teenagers smoking cigarettes and now it's down to four and those statistics looked pretty good for a while until vaping appeared and now the consumption of tobacco and electronic cigarettes among adolescents is skyrocketing. and this really matters because if you look at the timeline right before we had a respiratory virus pandemic for years, Big Tobacco was targeting kids and ruining their lungs with flavors like strawberry bubble gum or mango burst or juice juice. fortnite sherbet that's not real but if it was maybe I'd start no it's a joke but the reason I want to talk about it is because there has been a specific anti-smoking campaign during my teens and now that I'm 20 years, which is pretty much the most prominent one and it's The Truth Initiative you might remember it as Truth.org was like that for a while and I think they changed their name in 2015.

Now I want to talk about Truth.org because I think they have a history very complicated in marketing to teenagers. and that became evident especially from the first ad I saw from them, this was five years ago and the memes you'll see in this video were already very dated five years ago, what's up guys, Canberra was sick, you're a smoker ? no I didn't even buy my own pack it's a cheat oh my god even just using it is a cheat. All of these memes when this aired were super dated. It's a trap you know as a Star Wars reference that became one of the first. text memes at the bottom of the text and it's something that has disappeared so far into internet meme culture that seeing it even five years ago was ultra dated, they have the and I hate to even say it oh my god meme it's a cheat, I'm I'm not a smoker, smoker, I'm going to do yoga tomorrow and a unicorn throws up, it tastes like tropical kumquats so it can't be bad for me.

Unicorn, they want to get the attention of teenagers to stop smoking, but this is how it turns out. a generation that doesn't understand young people and honestly thinks they're stupid like you just have to throw a couple of memes on the screen and someone will quit smoking and it's a serious decision, even if you're a teenager, quitting smoking is a difficult thing. . They have to do it and they're not going to do it because a unicorn told them to and the reason I mention Truth.org now is because I've been seeing a lot of ticking lately, I know, but I don't really know.

Watch out, I keep getting ads on tick tock from Truth.org and they're terrible, they're so bad and I wanted to show you some of them too real quick before you react to the video, you mean? oh merch is releasing the christmas stuff is releasing today with this video embroidered hoodies are back hoodies are back so can you stop texting me and asking me and there's also this cool new hoodie that has this on it on the front and then this on the I'm back so I want to start with the first one I saw and again these are promoted ads on Tiktok so you don't have a choice to see them or not they are spreading the word and picking these videos as they what do they want. people were seeing chips ayo no vapes on their page so they were trying to create a tic tac that would catch the attention of teenagers and want them to quit smoking or vaping if they smoked and their solution was a no vapes check and then dance also something. about the falling coins it feels like they thought we had to add some visuals to get the kids attention, you know, because they're stupid while they're scrolling through the tic tac, I mean, I don't know how I'd do a TIC Tac. want to quit smoking, the bad thing we are seeing is that the first kids seem to be vaping in large quantities, even up to high school, but the thing is that even high school students are smarter and older than catching them with big coins in the screen and magic dances the way to get people to quit smoking is to give them the facts, even if your kids have a celebrity they like to tell them the facts, but don't do tick-tock dances from anti-smoking initiatives , It is shameful. and if you look at the comments, people immediately say that they are going to touch their jewelry because of this video and that is the problem when I see all the comments on many things on Truth.org, the comments are full of people. to say I'm going to smoke in spite of you because of how embarrassing this is and that's the big problem is Truth.org in my head is known as the out of touch embarrassing anti-smoking campaign so let's look at another one is that a vape does that Oh , cool, there's nothing cooler to get kids who smoke to quit than a magician, especially something about the song that says "get that out of your face" but the beat falls in your face and I'm so embarrassed that a vaporizer, get it out of my face. oh oh, throw away all my jewelry, no more tobacco for me, turned the jewelry into a queen of hearts and they get even dumber than that look at this one, this is just a guy in a dragon jumpsuit dancing there's no message about anti-smoking There is no message about vaporizers being dangerous.
He's just a grown man in overalls having fun. Why would you waste money on advertising on this video? The truth initiative. I'll make one for you if you promise it will replace this one, especially this one. this one and we're not even done here's another one, take it out mom, now this one isn't so bad. Turning the vape into a marker and drawing on it isn't very embarrassing, but again, what's the message here? You know, like any kid who's old enough to vape, yes, they're being attacked with flavors that taste good, but that's like a cartoon for a four or five year old, you don't want anti-smoking campaigns to become embarrassing in kids' heads because then vaping becomes cool and not vaping becomes not Cool truth initiative, you have to be very careful what you choose to advertise to kids who smoke, because if you make a mistake, you are now known as the embarrassing company.
In his eyes, this is how I have perceived the truth initiative for years, even without the ticking. They wanted to show kids that e-cigarettes are bad for the environment, so they made a heavy metal song. I feel like you look at this and most people just think about why they chose to do this. They wrote on paper a heavy metal song about environmental damage. of electronic cigarettes and say that's cool, the kids are going to think that's cool. I have good news for you. Some of the truth initiatives are good. Yeah, I'm not a guy who just goes on YouTube and says this. bad and then we quit, there are actually some good ones, there are some who, in their words, are members of the black community who read great tobacco quotes that are specifically aimed at the black community with the tobacco gem funded an after-school program that allowed them to gain access.
We don't smoke black children, we simply sell it, we reserve the right to smoke for the young, the poor, the black and the stupid. I wish these were a little more informative other than just reading the quotes like I want to hear more. about it, but in some of my favorites there is a real doctor who appears in some of the promoted tic tac ads to talk about the dangers of vaping with coronavirus because again, it's a big problem, many children's lungs are being damaged such as we have done. a pandemic attacking your lungs is serious and big tobacco should pay for it, they target kids just to get them hooked on vapes so they can make money forever and it's like we know this happened with cigarettes and it's happening with vaporizers right now and me.
I'll give it to the truth initiative, they seem to be one of the only campaigns that is national and fighting this, it's a serious problem, they also have this girl, come and congratulate people and encourage people to stop smoking based on his tweets. 12 days since I stopped vaping and I'm really struggling today ally, that's totally normal, it gets better, please continue, that's the kind of thing that seems to work, you know, giving people data, encouraging them to do what it is Well, don't look down on them for doing it. which is bad, yes they are not adults, they should not be treated like adults, but you also can't treat a teenager like they are five years old because all teenagers, including me when I was younger, think they are adults and yes , they have a There's a lot to learn, but when it comes to vaping, they know the danger for the most part, so be honest with them so it's not all bad and I think people are really doing the best they can. and, overall, they are doing something good for people. they are trying to help kids not get addicted to vapes, damage their bodies, and just start funneling money into big tobacco for the rest of their lives, that's a good thing, but the problem is when you have a bunch of good ads you run on the At the same time as a bunch of embarrassing, out-of-touch bad ads, these will outnumber the good ones.
Kids will think your whole brand as a campaign is embarrassing and out of touch and you don't understand them, so when they see a good one it's not. I'm going to hit the nail on the head because all the bad guys treated them like they were children, so I would really like to see the truth, you know, continue to do more of the good but also cancel out a lot of the bad that they've been doing, so, please. If you watch my videos and you're younger and you vape, you might think it's a cool thing to do now, but it could seriously harm your body later and I'm telling you, as a 23 year old about to turn 24, if I had vaped or I smoked cigarettes in high school, I'd regret it now, I promise you, and then you think, oh, maybe I'll regret it when I'm 40.
