Amazon Echo Buds Review | Better Than We Expected

Apr 09, 2020
All Amazon had to do was create an outbreak that didn't sound like a total failure because, on paper, these things already make a lot of sense. Hi everyone, I'm Caleb Denison from Digital Trends and of course we're talking about Amazon Echo Buds. Why do they make so much sense? Well first of all they're priced at around a hundred and thirty dollars and you know that's going to go down over time and on paper they just do everything right, it's not the best battery life in the world. In the world you get about five hours a little less with the noise reduction per charge, you'll get two hours after 15 minutes of charging, the charging case will bump that up to about 20 hours total which is pretty good for 130 dollars, of course, there you are.

Know who built in constant listening so if you like the voice control that is available they should be comfortable and they should sound good because for $130 I don't expect audiophile sound quality might have some surprises for you though obviously. I've been using them for a while so it's not a legit unboxing but I want to show you what it's like when you receive them, a little bit of literature here and then this is the case so we've seen smaller ones and we've seen bigger ones. like right in the middle right there and then the accessories will be underneath here we have a USB charging cable no wonder there's no wireless charging on this guy and then all your ear tips which are part of the problem with these headphones is that they have three different sizes of silicone ear tips, as well as three different sizes of these wings that are supposed to help secure them in your ears a little

better

, so let's get rid of that stuff for me.

I was lucky that the default ear tip on these worked perfectly for me. Let me pull them out so we can get a closer look at them and while I'm doing that, there's a magnet here so they'll jump in, just point the tip of your ear in the right direction. The case doesn't have a magnetic closure, it uses a small spring on the hinge, I can't really open it with one hand, but I don't consider that a big deal, and then there's its hidden little micro USB charging port, so I'll leave that aside and I will focus on the headphones.

Now I know a lot of people are going to use these two Air Pods that we made and that's because of the price and functionality, but one thing I wanted to incorporate is the Samsung ear

buds

because I think they're a closer comparison because of the size of the

buds

and also because of the case, so the galaxy buds have a much smaller case, they also don't charge the buds for as long, but the buds are also a little smaller than the

echo

buds here, so there's definitely a difference in size and that is what explains the difference in battery life, the bigger the button, the more room for the battery, the more power you will get, even though they are a little bigger. than the Galaxy Buds we just saw there, I never had a problem with the size of these things to set them up.

The idea is that you just open your Alexa app, whether on your Android or iPhone, open the case, and they'll walk in. pairing mode automatically, this works just like galaxy buds or even air pods with an iPhone, now you can do without the Alexa app to some extent. I mean, you can always pair them manually and just play music and make phone calls manually, but to actually control the headphones, you need to use the Alexa app, so I recommend that here you will also be able to control the active noise reduction and also the pass-through amplification , so if we press ANR here we are.
In passthrough mode we can change that we can turn the microphones on and off. Also, if you want to control the equalizer with these, you'll want to do it from this app. Well, let's talk a little about how these headphones work. work, I have them on right now, I'm listening to music, it's actually a little distracting and it's hard to record this video right now, so I go to pull this out and instantly the music stops if I put this earbud back in. it will resume here's another trick if you start listening to music with just one button or make a phone call with just one button it's okay it will work that way and then if you put another button later it will pause briefly and sync the two. and then you'll be listening on the stereo again so you can have it either way.
I really like that particular functionality, besides that there are some tap controlled functions here, it's a little limited there's only two actions you can double tap or you can long press and when you long press it's

better

to hammer that thing and then hold it for a second to execute that command. You can assign those commands to pretty much anything you want. Double tap by default will be activated. noise reduction or turn it off and run the step and you can actually change that step sound to let just a little bit of sound in or be almost like a hearing aid if you want to long press.
I would assign That to probably run Google Assistant or Siri because you can't do that via voice control right now on the iPhone. You can call Siri no problem, but you will never be able to hold down and get Google Assistant, it's just not available on Android Phone Google Assistant easy to activate, no problem, but it won't work via voice control once again , here's how these guys operate in everyday life, you can customize them to do whatever you want, there's a whole list of features in the Alexa app. I'll let you see for yourself. Quick note on Bose active noise reduction technology.
It's a step below its active noise cancellation or A and C, and Bose is a bit cagey about what the differences are. They are obviously the same. ANC is supposed to be better, but what I found is that between the really good sealing on these and the active noise reduction technology, they are fantastic as these are the ones you'll want to take on a plane unless you want to get a Bose . or a Sennheiser, then it has active noise cancellation which will cost you a lot more, although I want to say it is much better than just a standard pair of headphones at blocking out noise, even with that really good seal in place, what I found was that virtually eliminates noise. noises from you know, trains, buses, compressors and whatever.
I can't take them on a plane yet, but I know I could hear them much better than a standard pair of headphones in general. I am totally satisfied. Impressed especially by the price so the only thing left to talk about at this point as far as I'm concerned is the sound quality and now I gave up a bit at the top of the video but let me say I'm really impressed. As good as they sound, they are not audiophile grade, you can get a better sounding headset, the Jabra, this might sound a little better. I think the sound of the sports bow sounds a little better, but marginally, so these guys are totally respectable and Part of this is due to the fact that they have dual balanced armatures, so they come with a surprising amount of bass.
I actually wanted to lower them when I first bought them, but that's normal, most headphones are a little inflated. in the bass, the mids are very clear and the treble is also well executed, although if I'm really picky I would say I would like a little more attack, like a little cleaner transient response, which is surprising considering that Re balanced armatures , but overall they are better than what most people are looking for and that really surprised me considering the $130 price tag. I was expecting something boring like the

echo

speakers, you know, but they exceeded my expectations and I think they will definitely meet or exceed most people's expectations, which means these are absolute category winners.
There really isn't another all-encompassing headphone like this one. I mean, you have a reasonable battery life, it's on par with the competition, and it's better than others. In some cases, they have IPX4 sweat resistance, so they are fine if you are going to be very active exercising or just stuck in the rain all the time. The sound quality, like I said, is excellent, they are comfortable, the fit is good, the noise reduction is super impressive. I mean you'll have to resort to full noise cancellation to fully upgrade, just a really solid product and for 130 bucks these things will fly off the shelves folks, thanks as always. by watching, were you surprised by what he had to say today?
