Abandoned 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Driven From Grave After 10 Years | Turnin Rust

Feb 27, 2020
Don't worry, let's go ahead and do it now. We took the spark plugs out of this car, tried to turn it over with the starter, found a couple of wires, loose wires under the dash, which looks like it had a start button, ran to it at one point, so we were able to cross. it and at least get the starter to click, it didn't want to crank the engine so we assumed maybe it was partially blocked. We put a bushing in the crank there and it turns really well so it doesn't seem like it's a problem that we're having so we're going to go ahead and pull the.

Starter, let's see if we can clean it off the car a little bit once we get the starter working and knowing that it works like it should, we'll try to put it back in there and see if this thing turns over. We're already losing a little daylight, but if we can get it to spin, I think it won't be long. We'll get this thing turned on. Go ahead and pull the entire cable to the kids. There is a ground wire. Yes, dart. the dauber nests in there, I can't imagine that stopping it from

g, but look at that screwdriver, a lot of junk, Brown is funky, yeah, we should be able to check it with that little jump box, let's see what we have assuming this little bar that I ran to the civil yeah hit it well I had a better way to bring jumper cables ooh a long time ago I got a lot of torque buddy well cheering on the big parrot Wow so this one yeah the name is next to the washing machine , great, the washing machine, yes, how. about we'll get back to that I mean I was obviously working so for me at some point I can crawl under there and see if I can fish it with the tooth back yeah fish believe it I'll do it boy. a wire, wait, I'll put it back in now, that's work, I don't know if it works right, how the hell did you do it?

You have to come to you if we can get some air into it. these tires and if they hold any air there's little hope, Larry, we've got it in that tank, yeah, I put it in there, yeah, okay, so help it sink into the ground about three or four inches. I was realizing it before we got too serious. In this, I don't think there is a nut in the pastor sitting in his car, especially driving at home. Wow, that's no help from anyone, so I go ahead and put the wires back in here first, probably yes, because I think what how hard it is to get there, it's hard to get it, there's a 16/9, do you think that Can I get to that ground or should I go ahead and ground it so you can ground it in all the problems I had?

One of us was trying to get it off the back and that came with it, so yeah, that was the reason for so many problems. We were finally able to take the starter out of this car and work on it outside here where we could. See it a little better. It just took me a little bit to think about it a lot, if you can get to a place where you can clean them or work with them, they will start working, so we have this one working. I reinstalled it now, we should be able to connect the battery cables and it should spin like it should, like it's spinning at least a little slow.

I don't know how fully charged I might still need this jump starter. a little bit and it's a little loud but there's enough to power it up yeah. I think we should hurry up and try the bugs and some wires in there and see if we can light the same fire. Honestly, these seem clean enough to me, yeah. I'm just cleaning the Tift where the cable goes a little bit in a dirt knob event and they're still on it. I have dirt everywhere. come in here, you're just starting, yes, yes, for luck to start the first time, you just have to hold on. your eyes, sir, I've been holding my mouth right the whole time, they were my eyes, so once you figure out how they get in there, they go pretty fast, they're like, I don't know, not exactly and degrees, but not exactly the angle which was the number one distributor, I think I'm going to make it so we can see which way it has a zipper tied here, so the cable, so yeah, you know it's flat and trendy, you want to run it real quick and see, I catch that thing shoots, yeah, so you get the even numbers on your stuff, yeah, one was here, right, yeah, eight, four, three, so that's God, they all ran, yeah, they shot some gas.
I guess so, stop our carburetor cleaner, yeah, let me try some carburetor cleaner. There's also a bad connection here, so if you don't want to flip, I'm going to try to turn it on inside, where I had those wires, so I know we have a hot ignition switch ready, ready, yeah, this. close, unfortunately, we've gotten as far as we could with this car tonight, the idea is that we were going to drive it home from this guy's house and we're not there yet, we've been fighting this starter. and from here on out we're running out of daylight, really this car is just going to need a new starter, it keeps it stuck where it doesn't want to roll over and that's just due to age if set up for that long. so we will buy a new starter and bring it back here.
I think it will be very close to

turnin

g on. We need to make sure our firing orders are correct, but once we have this thing spinning constantly, we should be able to start it and take it back to the shop. Well here we are back with the car on the second day, last night we were running out of natural light, we couldn't see here, we are in the middle of nowhere with The nearest local park is about 30 miles away and besides the fact that they didn't have the starter in stock and had to order it, now that we have a new starter we went ahead and bought more battery.
The wires are also going to put the starter motor there put the wires down there that should fix the problem of the car not wanting to turn over yeah get it turning right we'll make sure we have everything in order in the Order of on, let's put some fuel in and hopefully we can get it going. We'll go ahead and try to run the wires up there so it'll be difficult to connect them once the starters are at the bottom, well they didn't give us a nut. For that, you might have a problem with the hot wire underneath, because the moment it's going to lift me up against the oyster there, let's fish again and go up this side, they should take us there, let's make sure first.
I understand that there are always slightly longer cables. We bought new cables when we installed this new starter there just because we weren't sure if we may have had problems with them. Well, Buhl's, anyway, we bought the longer ones. They had them in stock, just because they're not long enough, but I think we can make them work right now. I'll let you talk, let it come back to that, yeah, I have to get a different size for that. I try to do it myself, gasp with love, I guess it's done, there's everything left in the cylinders, uh, buddy, start.
I'm not sure if the firing order is exactly correct or there's something that might still be there, though I'll try again, yeah, let me. pour some gas in it it's done yeah you tried it yeah it just needs more fuel I think it was like we had to cut the loan there and I was going to just use that temporary tank because you don't know how bad we are . I can always cut it and then, but what I pushed my own filter in there later it's amazing what a good starter can do in the progress of this yesterday, we were just trying to make things work that just weren't going to work for us now. that we have this new starter motor in there, it's turning over great, obviously, it just cranked up, it sounds better, there's a little bit of smoke coming out, but we also put a little bit of oil in the cylinders and then the spark plugs will burn it off for a little bit. so hopefully once all that goes away we'll quit, go ahead and run just our temporary fuel tank in there, let gravity fade and then probably just put an inline filter in here and try to get it out of the tank to drive it home to get out here to do it because I can't I can't turn there except you're not mad without here I have to cut it off again filter everything on the screen yeah I don't make it know which one goes to the carburetor and which one goes through the moment one just has to return the other appears I think this big one is going to be here yes I think we can take it put the fuel in his house a flathead screwdriver that can't be said, right?
Yeah, it looks pretty nasty, well most of it was from this old dry rotten hose. If you can drop that other one down here, make sure it clears any belts and anything that moves the hose here so that. keep it off the belt, oh, and try it ready, yeah, oh yeah, daddy keeping the bugs off that plane, well she's running, she's smoking like crazy right now and I can only hope that's all we put in the cylinders of this thing. we can just go ahead and remove the plugs, clean them really good that way they'll get a nice hot fire to burn and burn better, but it's working.
I'm not sure if the firing order is exactly correct on this thing. It sounds like I have a myth, but it could also be the carburetor, so let's look at it a little more to try to modify it a little better so we can get this thing home. We went ahead and took the spark plugs out of this thing and cleaned them the best we could in a perfect world, of course we would love to put new plugs in this thing one more time. We are about 30 miles from the nearest parts store. and we're trying to weather the rain, so we really want to get this car home right now.
It should boot up and run a little better. Let's go ahead and test the

trans

mission, make sure it goes into gear. some brake fluid in the master cylinder, hopefully they will be pumped out. I know it takes some lug nuts on all these wheels on this car, so we're going to try to get it going right now and hopefully, I'm pretty close to moving this thing from where it's been sitting for a while, ready, yeah, it looks like be working much better. I think maybe we would have a couple of plugs that just work. Okay, so it sounds like she loves it or something, yes, it could be.
I think at this point we can definitely try to limp the car home. Probably the best thing we can do is put the lug nuts on those wheels before trying to start it. anything, so yeah, yeah, so let's put some lugs on, now there's some bolts and nuts, let's put something in there, in and out, oh my gosh, I don't think we have enough throw. I really doubt these brakes will be pumped again. but you never know, they still have fluid, who needs brakes, you go to TransAm. I'm going to try to inflate them, oh that's it, you can safely remove it, even bubbles come out, no, nothing, oh yes, we are, I don't think so.
They are going to pump you still that liquid and I had a little hope that they were mine. We stopped drinking bubble soup. I have an emergency, but honestly, if it seems to work, oh yeah, it feels like wow, I feel liberated, let's say, let's try it. to see if we can put more gas in the will so we can get through there, which yeah, you should be fine, you have 800 miles left to go, do you think you're going to make it here? I'm going to move my truck since I don't have one. brakes try it hopefully I'm RC brightworks as it runs better but she laughs I gotta run it ain't got no brakes jump cook check the fluid yeah we check all the fluids we got it where it was spinning we had to put a starting motor. the whole story was a little muddled just a little this just because my old cable is out there, you know, there are typical things, it's a mess.
I was hoping the emergency brake would work, but I think I may limp. at home and a lady doesn't have to go too far so be careful yeah I appreciate you letting us stay here and try to at least try so we can get back to the quick trip we'll get back to going to the store and definitely checking out a lot more stuff, but I thought it would be cool to come and take you in it, so let's go ahead and try to get off the ground on this, so I don't know how long that little tank of gas will last me, so thanks, sorry, okay , see you, we're doing well, maybe driving this home without brakes wasn't the best idea, but it probably wasn't the best idea to try to make it work. on the guy's property either, but hey, we did it and that's how memories are made.
This thing worked pretty well just to get to the trail. We still want to do many things. We definitely need to get a new carburetor for this thing. I need to get new tires, I definitely need some brakes, but I am very happy with this purchase.
