seller

I've been selling an eBay for about two and a half years now and welcome to a day in the

life

of an eBay

seller

mom let's go see what she does all day besides drink water with a stainless steel straws which everyone should do by the way alright let's go Mary let's go okay Mary so what do you do first okay so first when I wake up after making to you I come to my office and check out my eBay account so I go through messages see what sold if I have any problems and you ask questions I go and check out how the status of my store is doing now and then I set up...

my photo studio in case something didn't photograph today but first I'm gonna ship that's what happens after checking links into my account and then today sourcing dates so I will be sourcing after shipping and coming back to China decide exactly what we're gonna do wait the item status or zoo is this oh you know some girl so what kind of messages do you normally deal with in the morning so some messages that I received from customers are questions on something am I gonna miss like the rice measurement on pants that I didn't add on some

time

s you'll get something like offers you get a bunch of offers come in and you get to kind of sort out between what offers the best or you're gonna counter or what are you going to do there's some

time

s where I get a case open for you know item not as as described but most of these things get escalated a case which gets closed down eventually and there's a lot of eBay messages I guess so they'd like to send out coupons and notifications on what's coming out what's new what items you should be selling just recommendations also payouts there's messages of how much your name paid out like for example I'm part of the Mensch payments so again notifications on how much I'm getting paid out for the day or for the previous sale day and after I'm done going through all the messages I'm ready to ship so I pull out the items that need to be shipped for the day and once I have my item I...

pulled the number that was sold and I found this really neat way to do storage of this just so I could see it mall here this is a file holder I also predicted so I grabbed the respective size and shop like nobody else because you aren't like anyone else it's beautiful you think beautiful vase rebranding ounces and that would come out here and type in exactly how much

time

got in waste I go on here and then put six ounces up do you and so I do free shipping so I pay for the cost of shipping so that would be but that's included sort of in your original listing price right correct so if you see stuff that's like $5 with like 1099 shipping then you would just do $15 with Free Shipping yeah I think it's uh it's like a great sales like a marketing way where people see $19.99 free shipping as opposed to $14 + $4.99 yes shipping and most likely they're not they usually don't appreciate I mean I don't want anything and now I'm hope I'm going to print this out with her fancy printer so she doesn't just print out of a printer which is this beautiful thing right here made by HP she decides to go

on demo demo and I always tell people this is an investment so when you are ready to purchase get a demo they're both so you don't have to purchase ink over and over again just like put em on and this is like an easy 10 to 15 minute process just because my inventory is set to be in America order and have a customs to you where I...

can't see the number and pull it out out of my inventory wow that is some organization right there I think it's super important to making yours your store be as efficient as possible or your shipping process be student fast so what's the most that you've ever shipped in one day the more you list for yourself so if you remain consistent to your listings and I've also seen actually want to share this because people ask or you even know I started seeing consistent sales after I had over 250 listed items well that was actually one of my questions yeah it is kind of it's it's a very hard question because new people coming into eBay want to know at what point do you see consistency because it's easy to give up somewhere in between the dip of one to 250 a list and I notice but at 250 consistently listing averaging 250 active listings you will start seeing at least 5 sales base I know a lot of people say I've been listing the listing if you have if your passion has the professional look to 50 I think you should get some sales so what was your initial investment I started from my closet so whatever I had purchased my home and turn that money back into my business to buying some more that's great especially for people who like obviously don't have any money right now but you have a bunch of stuff in your closet I feel like that would be the perfect thing to do because you could just reinvest that money in like $2 pants at whatever store and...
then resell them for like 30 bucks there we go you have another like 25 bucks as I really have something to sell every just trust me you have something to sell it's true it's true I just sold some like old GameCube games so obviously everything sells yeah so after we're done shipping we drop it off at the mailbox I like to drop it up blue bin I'm down the street of my house they always speak up at noon so we gotta go before no

time

I'm gonna ask Mary just a few questions that came up in my mind last night um okay so what got you into jelly okay so in 2012 I was selling on a platform like straight out of college I started selling on there so I started selling on Poshmark in 2012 and kind of get that only because I had so many clothes after college and I also worked in retail stores so I would buy way way too much stuff so I started selling things on there and then fast forward to 2016 I had forgotten about that platform completely and in 2016 I was waiting to get updated to a dental hygiene program so I was in between the waiting period to get into a program like that in Sacramento and in between that I thought about selling after that I cleaned my closet out so I started finding a bunch of things that I didn't use or that had really good resale value so my boyfriend suggested I got on eBay and that's what I tried a different platform which I had never tried so September 2016 it starts selling on eBay starting with my own clothes yeah so what kinds...
of things do you sell the most of I know that some people have their niches like gaming or maybe it's shoes or furniture or something like what is your niche so I can barely sell women's apparel and that's what I enjoy I love picking it up I love sourcing it and I love selling it so I think it's also important to source things that you love women's apparel is my main dish I would say I started doing hard goods somewhere last year I didn't really like it only because it did take up a little bit more storage space and items that are moldable like clothing are easier to store very easy and to ship honestly the shipping costs on something really heavy again okay so would you recommend someone starting on eBay or any other platform for their first sale I think it depends on what they buy I think if you find a lot of hard Goods and I think the best place to start is on eBay if you start maybe finding a lot of shoes shoes - well - on Poshmark so that's another platform that I also cross those - mercury I found that they sell a lot of athletic wear really fast so depends what type of items you're speaking up would kind of tell you what platform you should start selling on my last question is what is the future of all these platforms in your opinion um everybody's evolving I think he based a very big company from the start I mean they've been running for years but I don't see them going anywhere besides just catching up to what the...
competitors are doing for Poshmark I feel like they are expanding they're moving really fast so it's considering that what's a very small company that started 2012 like they've evolved a lot since then they're still not as big as eBay I would say but they're definitely going in the right direction as far as Macari it's a completely new platform to mean I'm just getting the hang of it I feel like they have a lot more work to do but they do have a lot of the audience that gives in to like opera Craigslist's related selling Cory okay say Macari is a brand new platform but I think they're trying to catch up to Poshmark and eBay as well I don't think it's as notorious as the other platforms right now a lot of people don't know a lot about McCarty but I think they're gonna grow up - I don't see them going anywhere so to us yes Bhoomi yeah because all of you are gonna go out there and do what she's doing so let's just you're letting the word out more people more people yeah but I think there's definitely enough for everyone yeah and there's so many platforms you can do it on - yeah and Matt will agree - with Amazon things like is it too late or is it oversaturated it's like no like you still have opportunity in these platforms even though you know you see someone doing really well and you're probably not doing well your first month that's I mean there's always opportunity to grow on them...
and that's what's so great about them that's why you were doing it otherwise I know I think it's never going to die to be honest nothing as long as we wear clothing I think we can sell up we all need a thing we should happy if we were naked it would be no need for it but we do I need to put to you in real offers wait this is what you need when you go sourcing what do you need yeah definitely take your green bags we need to help sustain our planet so keep your green bag handy I'd like to keep them in the car he said don't take it with me also take all the coupons I got a few point buns yeah I got a few coupons for the when I donated so I am all about saving when sourcing so if you can buy if it's low as possible this is your best friend also your money the money and your cell phone in case you need to look something up if you don't recognize the brand or something this would be very helpful after more practice you get better and you just start picking things up without even using your phone I am all right let's roll so we're on our way to the thrift store where's the first section that you go to when you go walk into one usually when I look up court I look more the new recs that are coming out you know pretty cliche but when the new things are coming out you want to be there first without having to sort through the recs when they're put out so I look at the racks if there's new racks coming out I look at those then you want...
to the fitting room racki they have a fitting iraq because usually the serve semi good kicked items because I've got to buy so it's all in one place again saving you

time

and that I personally like going into cats start off as I go into dresses it's just a personal preference just because I'm looking for athletic wear that's where I'm going to find again freaking the rocks bottoms and then the dresses because it's a one-stop shop so when you list a dress when you find a dress it's a whole outfit for someone so they're usually willing to pay a little bit more for our dress because it makes up a whole domain also because dresses are usually the most meat lean hog items in whatever stores I go to Mary is donating that's how she got her coupons she got like 25% off gets a receipt even better I head back to donate out there and my donate you get that coupon I was talking about and we are here we're gonna go see the family store of the Salvation Army first we're just gonna part choir over here we are in the pants section right what are your top brands that you look for stay in the pants section because I love selling athletic wear I'm looking for a lot of grants like Publix new lemon lucy outdoor voice we found the new rec who actually the rec that's right next to the fitting room of it everybody's returning their stop it will there be any good stuff I don't know no I you're such a nice abiding citizen putting...
them back in the hangers I believe in good karma and here that a Jay Jay Jay Jay Jill black dress so what that was Instant Karma by the way Grey's Anatomy scrubs that's cool I guess that's very cool because they actually do that alright so how do you look up an item so we find a brand and you're interested you're wondering if it's worth anything go ahead and type it in on

ebay

and then wheeze filter by souls and then it will show what it's worth so pre-owned the set would go for about thirty dollars the pants by themselves go for about thirty so you determine if it's worth it and how much it was going it looks like the set is here so perfect 30 bucks totally worth it do you think it's worth it yeah everything's half off perfect now we inspect the garment there's the thing for things like this you have to think about if it's worth you cleaning it up or not what do you think I'm thinking I could get rid of books but you just can't but like Vic this is 8 so this is 4 and 4 wait is it together separate assuming it has to be together Rachel gray Rachel gray dress Roy Nordstrom Brad maybe not next see that's what you always check yeah that'll check absolutely odd they match your shoot it so what do you look for you where do you know oh no for some beauty beauty health and beauty I look for a little bit of different things usually see a lot of gift sets which I really think that but you might find some discontinued...
items which are pretty good because we discontinued so if you are looking for this this line it's all the way back so I got twelve items and you have that good one but does even apply for the fifty percent so how long did this look at all these clothes there's nothing fragile earlier right okay let it out while it not included so what do you do first when you're get home after yes she is peeing as you can tell here okay so first I get home and I clip off all of the price jacks of course you don't want that to be photographed so I take off the price tags with some scissors and then organize the items by categories so save they're all pants I stack them together all tops together dresses together at cetera once I separate them they're ready to be measured I measure than one by one depending on the style of items the pants get measured the inseam the waist and the spice that's important I write down where it's made from than any details that I might need when it's

time

to list then four tops I measured the bus so it would be from market to armpit laying flat the length and if they have a sleeve all through the sleeve do the same thing for that I'll do the country that it was made in and some details that I will need to when it's

time

to it and I do this for all of them and adding measurements to your listing allow the customer to be a more accurate information about the item which then results in less questions from them and more sales...
or direct sales without having to wait for an answer about a missing measurement so I always recommend you to add all measurements early on so that your customers can have that confidence of purchasing something because all the details are there so I'm done I measured all my items I bought 12 items and that total to $34 with an average item price of two dollars and eighty three cents per item so it's very good I'd like to stay under three to four dollars there I know usually when I stores so this is very good I was glad at the 50% off sale that's going on so that was awesome there's 12 I guess but I'm only listing 11 because Jessica I had to keep them but I paid her for them so she paid of course and they fit her perfect so she's gonna keep on I always do the receipt to get an idea of what at what I'm looking at and I usually write on my receipt how many items I purchased and the reason you do the clipboard and write everything down is so that you could just go back to the listing and just do it from anywhere you don't have to do it like here with your laptop you could but this is just much easier for you yeah and now there's so many different ways a lot of

seller

s do it differently I didn't always do it this way and I started with one way and another way trying to see what works with me and my

life

style so I found that writing all of the measurements down on a clipboard like this is makes it easier for me to work from literally...
anywhere so I don't only work from home and I don't want to be stuck at the office or in my office stuck in my desk all day so if I take this point board to a coffee shop with my laptop I can do all the listings drafted if I have to or if I really photograph have the listing be live I can you take you to the beach I could list on the road because everything is here it makes a little bit more easier for me that way then after I measure it goes on to be photographed yeah all the lights need to be honest so that so you always have the white background I guess for me it's important to have a white background you know a lot of support items to pop up faster and Google loads and faster so you take them from the front and the back yeah I think the more portals the better gives the customer idea of what exactly the animals and get obviously any blemishes so that the customer is aware and you don't get in trouble yeah definitely if there's any floss make sure you take photos of them and note them in the description put size tags are very important for this one I'm going to note in the description the measurements don't tie on your inventory I think Mary try these early vayas on now she's not gonna like take them off ever again probably the so you do wear your thrifting clothes that's all you wear now right yeah I think my closet is mainly 80% corrected I would say 85% thrifted so if there's something that I keep something that I drift and they...
like keep and eventually I'll sell it amazing see you guys I hope you had a good

time
