I call that closing ability. Do you know how to close? Can you articulate the value of what you do to your potential clients? Do you know how to ask powerful questions that compel people to buy? Are you comfortable talking to strangers, presenting your ideas, demonstrating your product or service? The skill of closing, I believe, is one of the most important, if not the most important, skills you must master if you want to be rich. When you talk to customers, you are closing. When talking to suppliers, try to persuade them to offer you better terms. Guess what?

You are closing. When you talk to your employees, you are closing. So, that's skill number one. The number two skill that would

make

you rich, and that is the ability to speak in groups. I call that public speaking skills. See, you know the number one fear most people have in life? It is not a snake and it is not even death. The number one fear most people have is public speaking. Now, why are so many people afraid to speak in front of groups? Most of the time, because they're worried about whether they're going to look stupid, or what they look like, or they're afraid of saying something wrong.

All of these things, but if you look at great leaders, almost all great leaders, they're all great public speakers, like Steve Jobs, right? Like Tony Robbins, Warren Buffett. One of the skills that changed my life is public speaking. When I joined Toastmasters years ago, because I wanted to improve my English and also reduce my accent, and I was getting better at public speaking. I developed confidence, self-confidence, in public speaking. So ask yourself: are you afraid of speaking in front of groups? Do you know how to present your ideas to groups? Can you communicate with conviction and certainty?
Can you interact with your audience? Your palms may sweat. Maybe you are like me, at first your face

will

turn pale, your knees

will

lock. Alright. It's a skill that can be learned, but to be rich, public speaking is one of the most valuable skills you must master. The third skill that will

make

you rich, and that is the ability to communicate with printed words, or what I call printed persuasion. I refer to that as your writing skill. Now, notice I said copywriting skill. Now, copywriting, I'm not talking about being grammatically correct, although that's good to do, but I'm not talking about what you learn in school, academic writing, I'm talking about communication.
I mean, maybe it's your website, your video. I mean your email. How do you communicate with written words? Now, why is this so important? Because, in day-to-day communication, the emails you send, all the social media posts, the agreement, the contract, your loan post or your blog. A lot of that is written communication, and when you know how to communicate effectively through written words, you gain a huge advantage. Let me give you a perfect example: Let's say you created a post on social media and you have a decent amount of followers, that gives you influence, because what you see and what you write is seen by hundreds of people, thousands of people. .
In my case, it could be millions of people. In fact, copywriting is the first skill I developed as a young Dan Lok, and that's the skill that changed my life. How I went from losing money and not making enough money to making $10,000 a month when I was in my early 20s. So, copywriting. That's not taught in school. School taught us how to write, but not how to write advertising copy, so that's skill number three: the ability to communicate with printed words. Skill number four: and it is the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with your team.
I am referring to your leadership capacity. To be an effective leader, you must be an effective communicator. Do you know what your company's vision is and are you communicating it to your team members? Do you clearly communicate the vision to your team? Do you know how to create a good culture within your organization? You see, that's all leadership skill. Business is not a solo sport. Business is not only an intellectual sport, but it is also a team sport. It is an organization. You are only as good as your team. It is very, very important to develop that leadership capacity to be able to inspire, motivate and lead your team.
Skill number five: and that is the ability to manage and organize your time for maximum results. Some people call it time management. I refer to that as priority management because, at the end of the day, we all only have 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. In reality, you can't manage time because we all have the same amount of time. However, what you can manage are your priorities. What are the important things you should focus on? One of the important things that will move the needle, that will help you get closer to your goals.
The problem is that school never taught us how to manage our priorities, right? You do your homework, you take tests, you take care of your family, you do a lot of different things, but most people never take the time to stop and look at what we do and ask ourselves, okay, why? Am I even doing this? What is the benefit of these activities? We never ask ourselves those deep questions, and at the end of the day, priority management is really self-management. How do you handle yourself? And, if every day you can manage your time efficiently and effectively, and you focus on just a handful of things, two or three things that you know, if you continue to do them consistently, will give you the results that you want.
So the rich understand that and realize the value of their time, and that's why they avoid what I call minimum wage activities. If someone can do the job, costing you less than your time is worth, we delegate it. So, that's skill number five. Skill number six: and that is the ability to read financial statements. I call that financial literacy skill. Now, this skill is not taught in school. In school, how do we measure our performance? Your school card. Do you get an 'A', a 'B' or a 'C'? In the real world, in the business world, we look at financial statements.
Your financial statements are your scorecard. It tells us how Well, you're doing financially. How well are you managing your money? Now you might be thinking, "Well, Dan, are you asking me to be an accountant, or to take an accounting course, or to be a bookkeeper, things like that?" No, but you need to understand the language of money. Financial education, that is the language of money, how money works. Your balance sheet, your income statement, your cash flow statement. When you look at the statement, you look at the numbers. and you're like, "Oh my God, man, I don't know what's going on," or "I'm not making enough money this year, in this survey," or "I'm making a loss." "This year in business", or can you read between the lines?
That tells me? What is the history? How am I managing my money, right? And you need to understand the basics of some of these money vocabularies: credit. score, return on investment, profit and loss, capital gain, capital loss, depreciation. Many of these words, that's what you have to understand. You cannot improve something that is not measured. So, financial literacy is an extremely important skill to master if you want to be rich. Skill number seven: and that is the most important skill of all, and it is the ability to manage your own mind. I call that your mental ability.
Frustration, negativity, fear, envy, depression, limiting beliefs, procrastination. How do you manage your emotions? How do you manage your mind? You see, you can master the other six skills and master them, but if you don't have the right mindset, it won't work. I have said it many times, the book that Napoleon Hill wrote is called Think and Grow Rich, part of thinking is managing the mind. What are you feeding in your mind? How many times do you know exactly what you need to do to achieve your goal, to achieve the result, but you can't achieve it because of procrastination?
Maybe how many times in your life do opportunities slip by you and you can't step forward and act because of a self-limiting belief? Or, what about how many times you know other people believe in you but you don't believe in yourself because of a self-limiting belief? That's all mental skill. So, those are the seven skills that will make you rich.
