I'm very excited to see how other people have approached this challenge because this is what you know. I think everyone will have their own way of doing this, but the first is Amy Nolt. e with boop b by the lovely and so smart and talented amy nolte who listens to you when you talk like she really hears my tune well boop doop doop my first thought was to write the stupidest dumbest tune i could ever write and maybe if i got lucky of someone describing it as tuneful, that's the stupidest thing about music I think, but then I thought what the melody will play and the more I thought about it, I thought there's nothing more fun instrument wise than brass with a deaf. it's kind of like the teacher in the peanuts cartoon doesn't want the right thing so i thought but i suck playing brass and then well that's perfect for a song that's supposed to make you laugh so i haven't got my trumpet out on a long time but i got the chassis out as expected it's so playful ok once again this makes me want to walk up the stairs with cake on my face ok oh oh great host you finished you really me you hooked amy you know what i love about this track it has the trumpet muted which plays automatically right away its a fun sound no matter what tune that instrument is playing it just makes me smile i love how it played up to your expectations, obviously it creates the idea that it's getting faster and the keys going up um which is like putting the question in your head what's going to happen next and i loved that very nice ridiculous ending so now i'm going to listen to a concert for a Yo casual wind instrument 8 bit music theory 8 bit music theory 8 bit music theory hey i'm uh i'm 8 bit music theory and i feel like an idiot i didn't read the email correctly i didn't get it I realized they were supposed to be funny so I just wrote a piece, I wrote a piece of music and I performed it to the best of my ability, so I'm so stupid. grand is triumphant i feel nervous he's like a fourth grader oh my god he's too real i wonder if he played this excellent performance himself now it's so beautiful the arrangement of three sentimentals with that beautiful performance on top of it felt so real it felt like we're at a concert like a school concert what a cool idea to take um, to make everything else fancy except for the solo instrument, so you feel like you're listening to this beautiful piece of music and then there's someone really struggling.
I have detected a pattern that the first two have in common, which I suppose. it's going to come up a lot is to make you laugh it has to have this combination of competence and what sounds like incompetence where it wouldn't be fun it wouldn't work if it was just a bunch of instruments that are not being played correctly but the fact that you have this like um winding and a very poorly played muted instrument on top of what is a really nice well played backing track, that's where the contrast comes in. s about that is what makes it really fun ok next we have the good trust fund song ozil the good trust fund song ozu my name is trust fund ozil i am a producer drummer rapper artist who makes music funny and sometimes sad music but not today because today i'm doing my love letter to slap bass i think slap bass is the best thing in the universe i love slap bass i started the song having this house beat that keeps getting interrupted by these loud death metal sections and then the house beat comes back and it's ok and tries to get back into its groove um don't want to give away too much prague fills up at one point hope you like it thank you so much trust fund for those who say goodbye to this sounds very fiat ozone oh great with unexpected stuff including brown noise the beat of this part casual use of fart come on it sounds like the cds that were sick which were actually such an amazing balance of really heavy pace but also ridiculous.
It was brilliant, it was very different from the other two where while the others were misplayed and that's the joke, this one is just hitting you with unexpected things and it keeps changing speed and just when you think you've got the time signature, gets interrupted and then stumbles um something just occurred to me um a lot of these maybe at a disadvantage and we're hearing them being told this is going to make you laugh this is supposed to be funny and our expectations they're high and this would be a lot different if it were in context, for example someone said this is the song I'd really like to have played at my funeral or I just wrote a new national anthem and you know that would make it even more fun, so they're under a lot of pressure and it's a lot harder for them to make us laugh in this context, but so far they're doing it and they're great.
Next up is good grief for j forman good grief for j forman ok here's my one um now usually when i write songs i'm a musical comedian and i usually try to write funny lyrics this is my first time trying to write a piece of music where the music itself is what fun and this was a really interesting challenge for me and i was pretty scientific about it and i thought what are the tools available to me to create all the things you need to make people laugh like you have to have um some kind of familiarity and something unexpected and i tried to think well what can i do with the very limited tools i have because i'm not very good at producing music i just have an acoustic guitar and minimal editing skills and i thought what can i do to try to make the piece funny and this was the best i could do so enjoy the good grief?
These are like rhythmic grunts. This makes me think of a father who puts on his pants and stagnates. yuck he feels like half the band got the memo about the key change and now the beat is everywhere keep it together man omg that's a very nice very nice grand finale. I could feel the emotion there. I like it. I like it. remember what the words were or something ok next is the anthem of the cow of justice, the cow of justice, the anthem of the cow, no I'm just this cow and my song is called the anthem of the disgusting, quite normal and nice so far, we are very bored, we are really bored with this music no longer yes ah the fart the classic cars disgusting yuck anthem perfect thank you justice cow this is us is this the last one ok ok the last one is called the beep david bennett the beep the beep by david bennett i actually found this challenge surprisingly difficult i think when you're normally composing a piece of music you obviously want it to sound good you want it to sound musical but you can use your own perception of the music, your own ears.
Figure that out, but with this you want to write a piece of music that doesn't necessarily sound good, but sounds fun and figuring out what other people will find fun is that I at least found it very difficult, so I tried a few different avenues. and finally i thought ok i think a sound effect like a fun sound effect that i can then build a mix around builds up like a beat and i thought ok whats a fun sound ok maybe like an animal sound and whats the funniest animal well i think monkeys well this is the scariest yet oh here we go yeah oh my god oh its a bass solo baseline for days its a kind of a banger david not yet that was really cool oh my god i love the endian i love the ending its always fun when something goes a little too long or not long enough and because music is all about time and you know where you expect things to land if you just tweak that a bit it can catch you off guard and make you laugh. and this in This does a lot of what could be used as a kind of animation to make you like a cartoon where you're in the woods and all the animals come out as snow white, but then they really start to get bummed out. i think it was a pretty tough challenge to just make a composition with no lyrics that would make someone laugh out loud um i think what we ended up with here overall is some really cool strategies to make that happen this is all so cool i love what a great idea for an album so i hope you enjoyed that slightly different video remember all the tracks we wrote are available on streaming services and to download on bandcamp and all proceeds go to doctors without borders so thanks again to all involved for making this video and as always a big thank you to my sponsors including the names on screen right now and andrei sanestiarja andy deacon andrew andrew brown andrew sussman austin barrett austin russell bob mckinstry britney parker ca meron alvila colin aiken chris cabell christopher ryan david rivers donald howard dr darren wicks elena scorchenko and eugene leroy fd hodor greg kobotsky giu lia datona hamish brookelbank heineck kutcher hugo miller james ko j.kingsparker john dye joss sanderlin justin digger lee lauritzen mark ziegenhagen max o' keefe tune composer square melanie schonet michael vivian nancy gillard nathan lawrence daniel park paul muller pete dunphy richard pride roger clay sean kennedy steve daly stephen mazzaro tim beaker toma aharoni trisha adams tim payne victor nevi vidder vladimir flowers
