If you haven't noticed, I actually missed Tuesday's upload Hmm... Oops! I had a video ready to post but I really wasn't happy with it and you guys know I'm a big believer in quality over quantity so thank you so much for letting me take a little break. and working on today's video, which is really good and fresh. So, there's a really awesome and pretty big series here on YouTube on the BuzzFeed channel called "Worth It." Basically, in case you haven't seen it, each different episode focuses on an individual food item and the BuzzFeed editors go to three different restaurants at three different prices, try the food and talk about the overall atmosphere, the overall experience. to eat it and then at the end, they choose which one would be "Most Valuable" for the price... of the food.
50 makeover vs 3000 makeover
Makes sense? If it does. While I really love watching someone eat a two dollar burger versus a seventy dollar burger, for today's video we're going one step further and I thought it would be really fun to do a "Worth It" video on

makeover

s. . I thought it would be great to educate myself on the different realms of makeup art, so I booked three different makeup appointments with three very different artists at three very, very different prices. I think this video is going to be a lot of fun and I'm sure I'll look beautiful in all three different

makeover

s, but it's probably going to be a pretty long video and a very, very long filming process, so without further ado,!

50 makeover vs 3000 makeover
It was very, very fun, super easy, and definitely extremely affordable, which is obviously the goal of Ulta being first today. So last night I went ahead and booked an appointment online at ultabeauty.com. It was very easy to book. I just wrote a note to ask for your absolute best artist. I got approval and we are currently on our way. So without further ado, let's get glammed up! Yadira: Give me a hug! Pleased to meet you! James: How are you? Yadira: Good! James: You look beautiful! Very well sisters, my artist for today, Yadira, is with me.
50 makeover vs 3000 makeover
Hello Sister! Nice to meet you! Do you want to introduce yourself to them? Hi guys! I'm Yadira and I work here at Ulta Beauty in Midtown Crossing. James: How long have you been working at Ulta? Yadira: Since April then it is a short time. What? That's just a few months! - Just a few months - OMG Yadira: I've been freelancing in hair and makeup for about 12 years, but I'm just getting back into it, yeah. James: Oh my goodness, so you took a little break in the middle. Yadira: I did. I did, absolutely, I decided I want to follow my passion.
Here I am. James: Oh my god. I love that. So, that's literally great. I feel like Ulta is a really good place to be like that stepping stone. Yadira: I agree. James: Do you know what you want to do next? Yadira: I definitely want to have my own business and do hair and makeup like in a studio. and also freelance for television and press. It's my favorite, and brides love doing makeup. James: Yes, bridal makeup is very fun and very stressful, but... Yadira: It is. It's stressful, but I love the fact that I get to be a part of her memories and that's fantastic for me.
Because, you know, you're interacting with them on a different level. Right, James: So what do you really like about working as a retailer like Ulta and doing makeovers here? Yadira: I like the fact that it's not just a salon in the store, like you have so many brands, so many different types of people that come in here and you don't know what they're here for and you can throw away. em and talk to them hey, you know, at work, we're a salon too, we do hair, we do makeup, you know, it's a one stop shop. You can even get facials here, which is amazing.
James: I didn't even know that. I love that. Yeah, I was going to say that a lot of the brands that you've featured, like, getting ready for our makeover today, are actual brands in all of my YouTube videos, which is really cool, so I definitely feel like I hope the result end be Will it look similar to how my normal makeup would look? Yadira: I hope so. *both laugh* James: I love it, but it's really amazing to see so many brands represented, obviously, and that you can also use them in the actual makeover process. Yadira: Absolutely.
Yadira: Are you ready to see the big reveal? James: I'm so ready! Yadira: Bronzy, for the red carpet James: I'm ready! Yadria: I hope you like it! James: I think I will! James: Oh my God! *gasps* Yadria: Yes? James: Yes! This looks so good! Yadría: Thank you! James: Girl, you killed it! Oh Lord! James: Hello? I'm like ready for the red carpet. It looks very beautiful Yadira: Thank you. James: Thanks sister! Yadria: You're welcome, sister. James: I feel so beautiful, glamorous and ready to go. Yadria: Uh, you're beautiful. Yadira: Thank you for letting me bless your face today.
It was fun. I appreciate it James: You are the best. OMG I'm literally obsessed with her. Guys, go see Yadi. I'm going to put her Instagram right here. OMG I just created my own pop tag sound effect. I love that for me. and that's it for this makeover. Alright guys, that was our first full makeover. I am literally obsessed with Yadira. You have to go support her on Instagram. She is literally so sweet. Our grand total was 60 dollars, but I tipped her an extra hundred dollars just to thank her for all her love and kindness and her glam turned out to be literally incredible.
She was using so many products that she normally uses every day in my typical videos, which I think is a huge advantage of getting your makeup done at one of these retail stores like Ulta, Sephora, or MAC. You get products you know. They are very, very high quality and that most of us, as makeup enthusiasts and lovers, use every day. So, I'm really happy with how the makeover turned out and I think the most interesting part of the whole interview was how she talked about working at a retail store like Trampoline before having her own independent business, which is Place perfect.
Segway and transition because our second makeover today will be from a local MUA who runs an independent business. Let's move on, get to know him, and get glammed up again. Alright guys, we're back home and ready for the second makeover of the day. I just went ahead and wiped all the makeup off my face and if you notice, we're actually, hello, back at the regular makeup studio because the makeover. Number 2 is actually happening right here and it's a house call with a local makeup artist. His name is Eros and he is actually a very, very good friend of mine.
I think I found him on Twitter last year because of his makeup work. He is super talented and we have been very good friends ever since. He is a freelance makeup artist working here in the city of Los Angeles. And I booked an in-home appointment with him today, so he should be here in a few minutes and I'm so excited to have him glam me up. Alright guys, we are currently seated and I have my second special guest of the day, this is... Eros: Hello sisters, my name is Eros and I am a 17 year old makeup artist.
So why don't you tell me a little about how you got started in makeup, how your social media started, and now working as a freelance artist. Eros: Sure, I mean, um, I started doing makeup two years ago, I think. He was about 15 years old. I would say James: I love it. Handsome boys at a young age. Eros: And yeah, I started because I was very inspired, obviously, by people like you and, for example, a group of male influencers and things like that. And I just saw these guys be so confident and, shall we say, pretty. I mean, I want to be one of them, you know?
James: That's funny. Eros: I got into that a little bit. James: Kind of like my beginnings on social media, a lot of posts went viral, right from the start. So, you've earned yourself a bit of a social media following, huh? Eros: Yeah, I mean, I started out making posts like "trying to go viral" - *laughs* me - And then it led me to more creative things as myself And, now, it's led me to working more with clients, which I really like it because I feel like I like making people feel safer, you know? James: I have a lot more questions I want to ask Eros during the process of this sort of glamorous transformation, but I think we should get started because it might be a bit of a long process today.
So first we start with some moisturizer. I usually have my clients put it on themselves, because I feel like no one wants someone rubbing their face at least for a long time, no one who is a stranger. so your kit is pretty small for a travel makeup - yeah, definitely, almost like you definitely have key products that work well for you and you like to stick to them the same way I like to do my videos, so I'm sure you know that when you started doing makeup it was very difficult to build your kit and stuff.
I feel like I faced the same difficulties now, I mean it's a little bit better since I can get PR stuff like stuff and gifts and stuff like that James: Oh, because of the Instagram account and stuff? Eros: Yes James: Oh, I love it, okay, cool. Eros: So, I love it, getting help from brands, it's always the best, but, you know, since I'm just... still pretty small, I still have to buy a lot of them. these things out of my pocket, so I sure want to have all the shades in the foundation world, but you know, I just had to make sure I had the key ones James: to mix them together, right, Eros: yeah, exactly. small kit but a good kit that you know is going to work definitely love it okay cool so right before I start touching your face I'm just going to put on some hand sanitizer this will kill any similar bacteria on my hands. obviously everything I'm using is clean but just to make sure and then I'll also eat some mint and offer one to my client Eros: would you like one?
James: Yes please, and this will ensure that we both have fresh breath while we are so close to each other. James: So Eros, would you say that being on social media and also doing makeup for your clients has a big influence, like the different looks you do? , the different products you use and the different techniques you use too? Eros: Oh, I definitely want to say that most of my inspiration for my client comes from people like Mario and Ariel, like they're my absolute inspos for life. I feel like that's my thing, it's very similar to celebrity-inspired makeup.
For the everyday price point, a lot of my work isn't very fancy, I'd say, but it's definitely like the end result is trying to look as close to the celebrity's makeup as possible. James: Right, without spending a lot of money. Eros: so it's kind of like um- get in there and do it fast, but do it right, you know, it's not just about luxury and wearing the most expensive things, just doing it James: would you say that influencers In general, I guess it has really influenced your makeup knowledge? Well, how did you learn to do makeup?
Eros: hmm, I feel like I've learned from watching obviously like the OGs, like beauty youtubers, like nikkietutorials and all those like my favorites, right, right, so then they started to build and I discovered my own style, I discovered that I'm not a big fan of color, unlike you, yes, of course, you love color, you said that you learned to do makeup by watching different youtubers, yes, so there is no makeup school? - No no no no no. I feel like I definitely wanted to go to makeup school. I definitely wanted to look into it, but then I realized how expensive they actually are and I liked the age requirements to go to them and stuff like that, and that was it.
It's not optimal, so I thought maybe I wouldn't do it professionally at the time, obviously because I was just getting into this, you know, it's a lot of fun, right, so I do it on my own and see what happens and then I learned from various influencers or whatever you feel, nowadays there are definitely a lot of YouTubers who really like to teach their followers and things like that. and that's the best thing you know because they're there for people like me who want to get into this but can't pay for school or things like that.
I mean, I learned how to do makeup by watching different YouTubers and I never went to beauty school and I feel like I'm pretty good if I do say so myself, you're honestly extremely talented if I do say so myself *laughs* - of course, in makeup school they definitely teach you like proper sanitation and things like that they teach you the chemical aspect, I would say, of makeup, but they don't teach you the creative aspect in the sense that they can't teach you to look at something different. You know? Because the truth is, you can't teach someone passion and talent, you know? - good. even as a beauty influencer.
I got this because a lot of people are always like "oh you did this wrong" like "a certified makeup artist would never do that" it's like "is this okay?" and I look amazing, what are you going to do about it? I think makeup school is very, very valuable, but some people seem to literally believe that you need that piece of paper to validate yourself as a real artist, which is far from the case because, I mean, you're either talented or you're not Eros: I still feel like if I had the opportunity to go to school to do makeup I would definitely take it just because, I mean, why not?
I think you can learn something from everyone. You know? James: There is definitely a big change happening in the industry and although there are a lot of really valuable lessons in school, like hygiene and how to treat a customer, I definitely think that with the right care, if you are really passionate. In that regard, you can learn those things on your own. Yes, no, I definitely agree. Finished? - yes *gasp* sister, I feel more beautiful than ever - you look more beautiful than ever - I need to go take Instagram photos right now - oh my god, thank you for showing me off today - no problem - you are literally so sweet And thank you for coming this far too guys, I'm going to leave all the Eros links in the description box below.
Follow him, book for him who is so talented, hello, well sisters, that's our Glamformation number. two completely complete eros literally killed it, I feel so beautiful right now. The grand total for this complete makeover, including lashes and it being a house call, he came here, was $120, which I think is a very, very reasonable price for everything I got. Literally feeling so beautiful right now hearing Eros about being a little Instagram influencer and really just trying to make your way in the world was so inspiring to me because it very much reflects my journey. He used so many products that he uses in my daily life. makeup routine too, which is amazing and even though he didn't go to makeup school, he took sanitation very seriously, taking his time and making sure every step was perfect.
I thought it was also cool to talk to him about who. It inspired him to start doing makeup in the first place, being a lot of different makeup influencers, but also a lot of famous influencers that he really admires, which is a perfect transition because we still have one last glamorous lineup left to do number three, the price higher. period, let's get glammed up for the third time, my skin is crying - okay guys, we're here and ready for transformation number three and I'm with a living legend - hi guys, I'm Patrick Ta - I'm so excited for this transformation and in In case you don't know who Patrick Ta is, he is a celebrity makeup artist and he is here to give me a completely glamorous transformation.
Do you want to tell them a little about yourself? - um, I've been living in Los Angeles for 4 and a half years and I've been doing celebrity makeup for about, I think for three and a half years I started doing bridal makeup, and I started doing like, event makeup and stuff, but now I strictly do celebrity makeup and um... so you moved into that world real quick after only doing makeup for about a year, huh? - well honestly social media has been a huge help in my career and obviously part of yours too and most of my clients find me on social media so I support Instagram - yes literally the boss , I love it.
Well, I am very excited about this transformation. Today I hired Patrick, he is here, he has his complete kit in front of me. You have the most products I have ever seen in my life. Oh really? I feel like I have very little, I mean, like the other kits I've seen, the one that the makeup artists bring to set has like these huge Birkin bags and I have two little ones like Rimowa bags, they're definitely heavy and they're Olivia, my assistant, she's very good at organizing everything, so... yes, you have an assistant here tonight, do you want to come say hi, olivia? - say hello - hello! -How long have you been helping Patrick? - I've been helping Patrick for about four months - I love it - So, are you also working as a makeup artist or is that the goal in the future? - yes - that's great - so you also have an assistant on all your (????) - yes, every day - that's the boss, I love it - it makes work so much easier, so everything is more organized, everything is ready to go and sometimes, especially on red carpets, if I can't be there, she will be there to touch up or like you before you leave or if you need touch ups during the day, that is amazing, so I always start with my clients, I really like skin prep.
I'm going to ask you to exfoliate your skin first so that there's no dead skin on your face, and so that the foundation is nice and smooth, okay, we're back, so I'm going to start by just prepping your skin, number One thing I always notice In your work it is the skin of your clients. I've also noticed that it always looks like they're not wearing much makeup on their skin, so honestly, I love doing both, I love them, they're super glamorous. I love super natural, so I always want to ask if clients like their makeup, whatever makes them feel comfortable, because obviously it's like they're the ones who are going to have to live with the photos, right, so the oil .
What I'm putting on is this oil de la mer. I'm putting it basically on the perimeter of the face and then a little bit of moisturizer, so this is the light cream that I love to put on moisturizer just because I think it's definitely like that. It just helps the foundation look much softer this year for the Met Gala. I think we had 5 hours to prepare and we were still late. And who did you do for the Met Gala? - I did Gigi this year for the Met Gala - well, speaking of Miss Gigi, would you like to tell the sisters about your impressive client list?
Gigi was actually one of my first clients in Los Angeles, really? - yeah, she's honestly helped my career a lot, ariana grande, I just started working with rihanna, so I– - no way - oh my god, that's it, congratulations! - thank you - I have another client that I owe a lot to is Shay Mitchell - I love Shay - I honestly learned a lot from my clients because all these girls I work with constantly get makeup from the best so like they know what their hair looks like faces and knew what looks best on them.
I think rihanna, gigi and shay can do their own makeup perfectly, that's good, yeah. Well that's what happens when you have a really talented artist teaching you along the way, so Patrick, did you actually go to cosmetology school before working as a makeup artist or did you work at a counter or something? No, I just worked at a makeup counter. Honestly, I feel like it's the best way to learn because you constantly have to make new faces and I started working at MAC as a freelance artist and from there I definitely learned from the people around me when I started my career.
I never liked it. I have helped anyone, which I highly recommend. I think it's really amazing that even as a celebrity makeup artist you can stay here and still want to learn more and broaden your horizons and your knowledge. I think it's really cool because we always can. learn more and there are always new techniques we learn and everyone has different things they like to do, it's cool because even at the beginning when you started you asked me where I was going, what the lighting would be. I liked it and I was like, "Okay Patrick, it's just for a video" and it's important because it shows that celebrities have good lighting, we have to look good at different angles and coordinate with whatever outfit we wear, you know what I like.
I mean. and that's something you think about asking when you're working with those types of clients, who, that's what really matters, you know? no, yes, every time I start doing makeup, I want to know what the color of the background is, if there will be shadow on top of the red carpet or if it will be like outside, outside, red carpet makeup is not (?? ?) I love it when there are shadows so when the flash hits your face it looks flawless - and it bounces - yes, it bounces - if someone wanted to hire you for a makeover like this or a celebrity client, what would they do? the price will be? - so the thing is it's always different so sometimes a make and go will be between two and three grand, I mean yeah I feel like it's really easy to look at a number like $

3000

for makeup and look at it and say *gasp* There are so many things that really come with hiring a famous artist like you said, you'll be there all day, you have an assistant with you helping you, you have literally the biggest kit I've ever seen on celebrities. looking good - it's literally... your job - the job of celebrities and the job of influencers - to look good and present yourself well and photograph well and a lot of people don't understand that that's a big part of our job is... that's it...
Most of my job is to look pretty on camera, hello, it's like the security of paying someone you know and trust to make you feel safe and beautiful and also to photograph well for the carpet red and for the press, I hope all the sisters and everyone else, more or less, were able to get a little inside information about this crazy world and what goes into painting and making beautiful some of the most recognizable faces on the planet, because it is a crazy world that not everyone knows about. It's a crazy world. Do you like your lips to be made a certain way? - Yes, I usually like them lightly lined for Cupid's bow.
I like to make it as round as possible. I don't like the definition on my cupid's bow. - Are you ready? - we're ready oh my god, I look prettier - do you like it? - yes, my skin looks perfect, oh wow - it's like a little shiny, dewy, but still... - oh my god, the eyelashes are so pretty - wait, that... the individuals, oh my god, They look better, they literally look better so good sisters, OMG three days later all three transformations started complete, our first transformation was at ulta with our artist Yadira and our total was 60 dollars, then I had a house call with Eros MUA, an independent makeup artist and our total was 120 dollars and finally Patrick Ta, celebrity makeup artist, beat me to the gods and our total was

3000

dollars, although the 3 styles came out very different, with very, very prices drastic, I literally had a lot of fun.
Being glammed up with all 3 different artists, I truly felt so beautiful and confident in each one and each experience was amazing in its own way. I really loved the first transformation because it was obviously very, very affordable, which I know will be amazing for everyone. of you who are watching and who want to look glamorous and she was really passionate about what she was doing. It was great to hear the story of how she's been doing makeup for so long but she actually lost the love of it for it a while ago. a few years ago and I recently moved to California to pursue a career and I really want to work as a freelance artist one day.
I think working a retail counter is a really amazing stepping stone to really getting into the makeup community because let's face it, this industry is very crowded and you have to be really talented to make it, but I definitely think a retail store, where you work with a lot of artists different, and you're getting to use really amazing products and meet new clients all the time, it's an amazing place to do and I also had a lot of fun working with Eros who was our second freelance artist and came here on a house call which Of course, it is extremely convenient.
I'm lazy and don't want to go places, and I really like being in my own house, but it's also very helpful if you're in a hurry or late for an event, especially if you live here in Los Angeles. where there is really crazy traffic that can make you arrive very late to the red carpet. I will say that the Eros kit was pretty small, but he was talking about how being a freelance makeup artist it's very, very expensive to buy a ton of new products all the time. and hey if you can make it work with just a little bit that's amazing I mean that's how I make my youtube videos you guys see I don't really change my products that often and I do it because it really, really works , so kudos to you for knowing what works best for your clients.
I was very excited to see eros work and very excited to see the finished product and I will say that of the three different looks, the eros look was probably the closest. to what my version of tanned red carpet glamor would look like withoutI'd say his look was the best, because all three looks were honestly amazing, but I think his look turned out very similar to what mine would be like, like he was counting. In the video, she learned a little bit about doing makeup by watching different influencers like myself and watching some of the artists she admires, which I literally think is cool and is an option that a lot of different makeup artists turn to.
Until today, because makeup school can be incredibly expensive and a lot of different gurus are really working hard to put educational content on YouTube, which I think is so amazing that the grand total came to $120, which yeah, for Of course, it's a little more expensive than Ulta. but, you are paying the convenience fee, for your trip, you are paying for the lashes, you know they can be very, very, very expensive, you are paying someone who you know will make you look good, according to their Instagram profile and who you're supporting a local business which is always an absolutely amazing thing and last but not least we have our luxury celebrity transformation performed by the living legend. patrick ta his list of celebrity clients is very very very impressive and yes although it is very high priced i will say that i think the price pretty much matches the quality of the makeover and the experience i am getting today first. you're paying for their time because these celebrity makeup artists are usually hired and travel all over the world doing celebrities almost every day, like I was saying, planning this video was literally an absolute disaster and a lot of people canceled on me, which was none of the two things. fun nor fresh, so we thank Patrick for coming, but yeah, they are very, very, very busy people who work with very, very, very busy people, so I don't blame them secondly, you are paying for their products that Patrick wears very, very expensive. products and I took very good care of them, the third thing you are paying for and in my opinion probably the most important is comfort and I know it may seem like a little strange thing to take into account in a makeover but yes I really You think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense because if you really take it all away, all the glitz and glamour, the job of a celebrity is to be a public figure in front of millions of people and look really good while putting on makeup. artists, like patrick ta, or mario, or like ariel have a very small, exclusive and loyal list of celebrity clients who continue to hire them over and over again no matter what the project is and yes of course that's because they have kits amazing, they've been well trained, they know how to be sanitary, they know how to have a conversation but in general, shay mitchell or rihanna can hire patrick ta or kim kardashian can hire mario dedivanovic and by the time they're in makeup Once that's done, they can walk comfortably and confidently down that red carpet knowing that every photo taken will be absolutely perfect.
We've all had really bad photos taken at some point and as soon as it happens we literally want to delete them. I immediately want to say, hello to me, flashback mary, but when you're walking a red carpet and there are hundreds of paparazzi taking your photo, you can't delete those photos and you really have no control over them and if you take a bad photo in a bad angle, or if your makeup looks ruined that photo could very well end up on the cover of a magazine I see or in a newspaper $3000 may seem like a high price to pay for a glamorous makeover, but for celebrities that are some of the biggest names in the world and also some of the richest people in the world, in my opinion, it is a very small price to pay, at least for comfort and confidence and to avoid a scandalous photo and millions and millions.
Usually, many people share their opinions, all of which are quite unpleasant. Well guys, I think that's all I have for this video today. I've had a lot of fun filming this over the past few days and I really feel like I've learned a lot. A lot from three very different artists who are very talented. I will say that I felt very, very comfortable and confident with all three makeup looks. I think everyone rocked it and I'll leave all their social media links below. Please go show. them, sister support, speaking of sister support, if you loved these videos today, don't forget to give it a thumbs up below, it would mean a lot to me and also, definitely leave a comment below and tell me which one all three makeup looks was your favorite if you haven't already, don't forget to click the big red subscribe button below and join the sisterhood.
