5 Things I want in Zelda: Age of Calamity (Breath of the Wild Prequel)

Jun 06, 2021
The Great Calamity is possibly the darkest event in the Zelda timeline, an apocalypse that was born from the mistakes of those attempting to defend the land where an ancient evil returned to poison the armies designed to protect Hyrule previously The Great Calamity alone. has been explored retrospectively through link memories through stories and the ruins of the world, we have never had the opportunity to experience this cataclysm firsthand, but Age of Calamity, an entry in the Hyrule Warriors series, aims to do precisely this, a game where we can control the armies of Hyrule in the desperate attempt to stop Ganon and as the game is being developed in direct collaboration with the Zelda team, learn more details about this fateful event.

Previously I wasn't very interested in the Hyrule Warriors series and found it too chaotic for my taste, but recently I've been playing the definitive edition and enjoying it a lot more, appreciating it as the crazy wish fulfillment of tearing through legions of enemies with the push of a button is incredibly satisfying and this is something we know the pre-

calamity

bond was really able to do. In November we will be able to experience for ourselves the carnage wreaked on Hyrule when Ganon awakens. We'll be getting a lot more information about the game on the 26th of this month, so stay tuned here for analysis and updates on Age of Calamity, but until then I thought I might fulfill some of my hopes for a Hyrule Warriors game set during the darkest hour.

Dark Kingdom based on what we know of the game so far, so subscribe if you haven't already for more Zelda content and let's get into it. So this one was pretty obvious and something I'm absolutely sure will be understood one way or another. The castle town has always been one of my favorite places in Zelda ever since I played Ocarina of Time when he was a kid and explored the back streets of the market town. in 2d in minish cap, the main settlement of Hyrule retains its magic filled with vibrant characters, side quests, minigames and shops, although I appreciate that we won't see a real Zelda castle town in Age of Calamity, since it is a Hyrule Warriors game , I'm sure.

It will appear as a playable setting at some point during the story, and just being able to see the settlement before it fell into ruin is something everyone has

want

ed for years. Outside of the game's reveal trailer, we have screenshots of a few new abilities and areas, including two. of

zelda

taking on a group of blue bokoblins in what appears to be a small town, this is already fantastic since we've only seen these ruined settlements so far, but seeing Castletown would be even better not to mention exploring the castle before the fall. There are two screenshots showing close-ups of Hyrule Castle and Castletown and it just takes a while to take them in these places we've only seen tainted with malice, corrupted and broken outside of scenes, but here an era of

calamity

will almost definitely come.

You'll be able to explore them at their best, many of the details are obscured by the blur, but you can still see

things

like wooden box fires and what looks like a broken table, details that probably wouldn't be shown here if this area weren't like this . It is not playable as seen in creating a champion. A lot of work went into the design of Castletown. We can see conceptual art of civilian market stalls, a puppet show and details of houses and streets, but in the

breath

of nature, everything is in ruins, simply rubble. and Malice, Dirt, and Ash again, we probably won't be able to explore these areas to the extent that we would if these locations appeared in a Zelda game, but we will get a glimpse of Hyrule's capital at its best, even briefly during the run. of battle is good enough for me, a Hyrule Warriors game set during Calamity is one thing, but Age of Calamity is something else entirely.
It's being developed alongside the Zelda team, and from what we've heard from Aonuma, it looks like this is going to happen. To be canon, this doesn't mean everything is like gameplay elements. We've seen impossible feats like tying in the use of the bomb rune without a sheikah slate, but it's more than likely that the story and law of Age of Calamity will be as canonical as a true Breath of the Wild

prequel

would be and if this is the If so, I'd love for the game to shed some light on the mysteries surrounding the fall of Hyrule, of course, I wouldn't

want

absolutely that whole Breath of the Wild thing.
It's left to our imagination to be solved and explained by the Age of Calamity removing some of the magic from the original, but if we get a canon game set during this cataclysm, let's see some answers to some of the mysteries of Breath of the Wild. Fortune Teller, for example, we know that some time before the calamity, a mysterious individual known only as the Fortune Teller predicted the return of the beast, not only this, but he claimed that the power to oppose it lay dormant underground, a prophecy. which ultimately led to the discovery of the guardians and divine beasts that had been buried millennia earlier.
Apart from this, we don't know much about the fortune teller, other than that they were a trusted advisor to the king of Rome, but his advice was instrumental to the events that happened on different occasions. There are theories about the identity of this fortune teller, the creation of a champion suggests that some believe it was the Queen of Hyrule herself who was known to have a form of clairvoyance, but ultimately who they were remains a mystery, although there is a sinister idea that this soothsayer who obviously had the ability to see the future foresaw Ganon's corruption of sheikah technology and yet advised the king to start digging without the soothsayer's advice, Hyrule would have received no warning about the resurgence of the calamity, but without the warning, Ganon would not have had the guardian army to corrupt drastically reducing the threat of his assault on the kingdom.
The theory suggests that perhaps this soothsayer was not a savior from the shadows but a saboteur who He advised the king with poisoned words to be able to provide an army for Ganon upon the return of calamity, if so, then his identity could perhaps be a member of the Yiga tribe, masters of disguise and espionage who swear allegiance to Ganon. Personally, I've always liked the idea that the fortune teller could have been Gannon himself, an intelligent fragment of the beast's consciousness disguised as an advisor to the royal family, this is something the king of darkness has done before with agonym, a powerful sorcerer who served as an advisor to the king but was secretly simply an alter ego of ganon himself if we look closer.
In the events, battles and conflicts that led up to and directly followed the calamity, I would love to see more about this mysterious individual, perhaps they were a dark servant of Ganon working from the shadows to aid him in his return or perhaps they were simply a talented individual. . who guided Hyrule to the best of her ability. Another mystery I'd love to see solved in Age of Calamity is the identity of Cass' master. Cass, the bird bard, travels through the

wild

s of Hyrule singing songs transmitted over the different areas of the earth. The songs are often the solving of puzzles that will uncover a shrine or, on one occasion, a hidden chest.
Cass himself reveals that he learned the art from his master Ashika, who served as court poet at Hyrule Castle, apart from the fact that this individual harbored an unrequited love. love for

zelda

and that he was a similar age to the princess, we don't really know much about him, however, he was alive shortly before the great calamity occurred during which he fled to Kakariko village, so there is a possibility of let us see it. in this game considering that this individual was somewhat prophetic capable of accurately predicting the events of Ash Swamp. I would love to see who this teacher was again.
I wouldn't want all of Breath of the Wild's mysteries to be solved in the Age of Calamity. but I hope the game takes advantage of its position in the timeline to illuminate some of them and add more depth to this Hyrule like with Castletown. I'm almost sure we'll see it in the game, but I have to include it. in this video as it is something I have desperately wanted since the release of the

breath

of the

wild

citadel of akula was one of the wonders of Hyrule before the fall an impregnable fortress a towering stone castle built on a high peak on the borders of the Aquila province, was designed primarily to defend the main kingdom from an invasion from the east, an army would be bogged down by having to travel through the southern parade fields and endure the relentless assault of the powerful cannons of the fortress or travel a long way along narrow, winding paths around the The north side of the citadel is completely open to volleys of arrows before crossing a single thin bridge that leads to Hyrule.
The citadel of Aquila itself was designed to defend against attacks from the sea. A colossal fortified watchtower that protects the kingdom from invasion, but a century after the calamity in which the fortress is located. abandoned ruins abandoned a large tombstone for the men who died there defending Hyrule from calamity the citadel served as the final defense of what remained of the Hyrule army that had retreated to the fortress while the main kingdom burned the fortress was impregnable if it was attacked by man or beast, but the guardians were something else completely ruthless, unfeeling and unfathomably powerful war machines designed with a single purpose: the annihilation of their objective and when the guardians left Hyrule Castle destroying everything in their path, the Hyrule's last stand failed and his army was truly defeated. and absolutely in Accola Citadel, the siege of Akula Citadel is by far one of my favorite stories of the great calamity and judging by some shots in the Age of Calamity trailer, it appears to be a location in the upcoming title, here we can see Daruk fighting. a tall knox with the fortress walls and bridge right behind it and here where we see four cannons firing, we can see a pillar in the background that looks almost exactly the same as the ones near the cannons in the Aquila fortress, an interesting detail that I find incredibly exciting is that the citadel portcullis is open here in this shot, teasing the possibility of finally seeing the inside of this fortress during the breath of nature.
The entrance to the citadel is buried underground, meaning we can only guess what the inside would look like. corridors, bedrooms, armories and warehouses of the second largest fortification in Hyrule, regardless of the fact that the taking of Daruk tells us that we will at least have some battles in this legendary site, although who knows when this particular one will take place, if it will be the last Hyrule resistance. army that we know ends in a catastrophic loss or another battle entirely, if this is just another battle taking place in the citadel, which I would probably be inclined to guess, judging solely by Daruk's presence here, I would love to participate also. the final battle in this mighty fortress, even if we already know the outcome, this is my wildest hope for the age of calamity, I admit it is by far the least likely thing I can see in the game, divine beasts are a central element of the story. and the world of the breath of the savage titanic war machines built in the ancient past by the sheikah tribe four divine beasts watch over hyrule vanoborus in the desert vamado in the skies varudania on the mountain of death and varuta in the lake of course these divine beasts function as The game's main dungeons were poisoned by Ganon's malice during the great calamity, the four champions chosen to pilot the beasts were slain, their spirits trapped within their helmets and for a century, while Ganon was imprisoned within From Zelda's Hyrule Castle, the divine beasts remained mostly dormant, but when Link awoke from his slumber, the power of calamity became strong enough to control them once again, terrorizing the lands they were designed to protect.
The four divine beasts are iconic and function similarly to the four giants in Majora's Mask and see them target Ganon. After being freed is always amazing, as is seeing them finally unleash their power against him a hundred years later than planned. From what we see during the King Roma scene, it seems that the divine beasts along with the guardians were corrupted shortly after Ganon returned, however, this might not be the case. This will be the case during Age of Calamity as we see scenes like this where Mifa fights a corrupt guardian, unless this scene takes place in free mode where the player uses Mifa in a battle she normally doesn't participate in, this means corruption of the guardians. and the corruption of the divine beasts must take place indifferent times, as amifa still has to reach varuta before becoming corrupted, where she eventually falls to the water plague ganon, so what if the divine beasts themselves play an important role in the age of calamity as a force ? of good instead of under ganon's control there is a shot in the trailer of varudania glowing with a blue light which means it is under daruk's control instead of ganon's and if the four divine beasts are fighting together us until the moment they become corrupted, what if we could control them to fight while vaporizing hordes of enemies with holy explosions or stomping enemies into the ground, giant playable characters wouldn't be completely new to the Hyrule Warriors series in the mode Fury of Ganon, the dark beast Ganon is a playable character. a gigantic, hulking monstrosity that can tear through armies of enemies with ease with powerful blows of dark magic and brute force, while a divine beast would be on a scale even larger than Ganon's.
I don't think it's completely impossible and I would love to play. like one during the era of calamity, even just for short sections, so this one is obvious, it's a game that takes place during the great calamity, we know the story is dark, we've heard it before, it's true, however, a dark story doesn't mean the tone of the the game has to be dark hyrulewarriors is a celebration of zelda, a crazy melting pot of all the locations, characters, music and story beats we love from the series, it's completely ridiculously over-the-top and acknowledges That, which is something that I didn't really appreciate before, but that I've really come to understand since then.
Playing it recently, it doesn't take itself seriously, it's fast-paced and loud and fun, and I'm sure we'll get the same amount of fun in Age of Calamity, a game where we finally get to play as champions facing off against hordes. of bokoblins and lizalfos as Ganon's power begins to return and as I mentioned in this video, it could be a bit of a wish fulfillment for Breath of the Wild fans, maybe we'll finally see Hyrule Castle and Castletown in all its splendor, maybe we will. You can watch the siege of Akula Citadel or even shake the earth while controlling divine beasts.
However, The Great Calamity itself is far from an optimistic celebration of Zelda. It is possibly the darkest event in the zelda timeline. The complete annihilation of a prosperous kingdom almost overnight, where untold thousands of people perished at the hands of a seemingly unbeatable enemy, even a century later, the calamity still has the world in its grip. The small settlements that still exist are tiny, sheltered among the ruins of the lost world, forced to return to a simple rural way of life. The calamity was so overwhelming and one-sided that it is remembered not as a war with two opposing forces but as a natural disaster such as an earthquake or volcanic eruption, something that cannot be combated or reasoned with as we introduce the Hyrule Warriors series to this era of history.
It will allow us to see some of the incredible battles that took place like the siege of Akula Citadel, but I hope it retains the overwhelmingly dark tone that Breath of the Wild established for this event. I want to see the champions die. I want to see the divine. beasts beyond our control I want to see Castletown burn to ashes this is not a game where we are supposed to win the action of the Hyrule warriors will absolutely suit these large scale battles exaggerated numbers of enemies exaggerated heroes intense remixes from our favorite zelda music, but I hope the tone of the story matches what we know about the calamity;
Otherwise, I can't help but think that in retrospect it will somewhat damage the emotional impact of Breath of the Wild, which is an overwhelmingly bleak game, a game about exploring the shattered corpse of a kingdom, so while I hope the action is as extravagant and ridiculous as we expect from a Hyrule Warriors game, I hope that the story is not left behind and that the crushing sadness of the great calamity is respected, thank you for watching this video, what do you want to see most in Age of Calamity ?
