Feb 27, 2020
Games Done Quick hosts the largest

events

in the speedrunning community and with increasing popularity, it is inevitable that over time they will have to start monitoring the language and content shown at the event. Arguably, since ownership of the event was handed over to Matty, it is certainly headed in a more corporate direction. Not many people have been excluded from the event, so you've probably heard of some people in this video; However, while researching this I found some that I hadn't heard of, so maybe you haven't either. . So if you're sitting comfortably, my name is jawibae, let's take a look at five times Games Done Quick has excluded someone from their event!

Shift is known for speedrunning SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom and currently holds the record for all categories on speedrun.com. This year, at Summer Games Done Quick 2019, he had submitted a version of SpongeBob SquarePants: BfBB and it had been accepted as a backup version if a space became available. He and his fans, including myself, were excited to find out that a spot had opened up and that the event had contacted him to ask if he wanted to race. He expressed concern about having to change his travel and accommodation reservations. However, the GDQ staff seemed more than helpful in helping him run in the event, and then four days later, tweets and Discord messages started appearing in which many people mentioned that his race had been removed from the event .

More Interesting Facts About,

5 speedrunners banned from games done quick events...

Naturally, he assumed that some kind of error or rumor had spread, but decided to check his emails. He received a rather vague email stating that his online conduct was found to violate their zero-tolerance harassment policy and that his race was removed from the event. Additionally, they told him that he can still attend the event, but that he will not be able to perform again until AGDQ 2021. He was left as confused as the rest of us and tried to think of any reason why he could have been

banned

. He recalled a moment from his livestream the night before where some trolls had entered his chat while he was talking about the importance of mental health after Etika's tragic death.

The trolls attempted to trivialize her death and make fun of her, and were eventually

banned

from her stream. He received a response from GDQ staff telling him that while they cannot reveal the origin of the reports, they can tell him that the reports involved the use of homophobic slurs. He recalled an encounter he had with the troll on his stream the previous year, where he had sold it to stop being an f-word. The user reported it massively and was banned from contracting it for 30 days. It turned out that this user was part of a group of people who actively sought out Shift and even started a Twitter account that shared clips of him out of context with the goal of taking him down and ruining his career.

It turns out they were the same people who created a portfolio of out-of-context Shift clips and rewrote a narrative that portrayed him as a bad guy. Despite all of this, he still hasn't been unbanned, and while it's definitely frustrating, he says most of his frustration came from the people who did this, as they've also been targeting other members of the community. SpongeBob: BfBB. He says he would like GDQ to look into the reports a little more thoroughly, as they certainly seem to have a finger on the trigger when it comes to reports like this. SGDQ 2015 saw a run of Crash Bandicoot 2 by gamepro011.
This race is probably one of the hardest GDQ races to watch, in two senses of the word. Firstly, the full race isn't even on YouTube, just the highlights of the race, and secondly, even if you could watch the full race, I'm not sure you'd want to do it or go that far with a straight face. . He tries tirelessly to make jokes and please the audience, however, his humor is very dark and daring. For example, it only took him three seconds of running before he had already made a joke about suicide. "So this is Crash Bandicoot 2, any% game about abuse, we like to commit suicide, please don't try this at home." Now this alone probably wouldn't have banned him, however throughout the game he constantly jokes about suicide and what to do. very dark and unusual jokes that no one in the audience laughs at at any time. "Yes, now he is dying again and again.
What is this? Yes, we are committing suicide. Don't try this at home." "It makes you go a little faster and by the way, it's about 8 inputs per second. Don't try it. home *whispering* but I like to give pleasure to my controller *no idea* "PLEASURE" "order in the sense "I said I wasn't going to finish the game but I'm still going to kill myself because ...uhh...I like it Okay, okay, you get it... you get the point" *no one laughs* they eventually eliminated him from the event, as well as eliminating a race he was supposed to do later in the event; he is now banned from submitting races again and I'm not sure if he has been completely banned from attending the event, however he certainly didn't show his face as from what I could find, "Crash 2 is a game where you want to try to beat him as it is: it's domestic abuse, it's essentially domestic abuse that you can't escape... there's no escape," Wester currently boasts.
He has 100,000 subscribers on YouTube and has been running Pokémon

games

for many years, however, being popular doesn't make you immune to controversies. In 2015 he sent an email to his subscribers explaining why he hadn't been streaming for a while. He mentioned that he was finding it difficult to get back into speedrunning, quote: there is a lot of speculation as to why he was banned, the main rumor was supposedly that he was stealing room cards from the hotel where the event was taking place. He was unbanned and it turned out he was banned from exploring the hotel where the event was held.
Despite being able to attend the event again for several years, he has decided not to and says he has much higher priorities. Bonesaw577's Jak and Daxter series at SGDQ 2016 is often considered one of the most fun series at a

quick

gaming event. He and the couch had a great flow of banter as well as talking about the race at the same time "...and then Jon Voight, yeah, and that guy who died first, I don't remember his name" "Actually, you I just listed the main cast of Anaconda" *laughter and applause* "I DIE!" *more laughter* And yet, after a race that people still enjoy to this day, you were banned from submitting races to the event and you're probably wondering why.
Well, no official statement was ever released as to why it was banned, however, it could have been a few things. Firstly, he swore a couple of times during the race, nothing offensive though, just simple mistakes. Secondly, he urged Twitch chat to spam Air Canada on Twitter, which considering the event draws over 100,000 viewers pretty consistently is definitely a risky move: "at the beginning of this race I said if I committed something wrong, please tweet to Air Canada." ... ...well, Air Canada hates us." - "don't do that" "we are getting confirmation from GDQ staff that you should indeed not do that" however, it seems that Air Canada was not affected in any way.
Absolutely, the official gdq Twitter account rather embarrassed itself by tweeting them apologizing for what turned out to be basically zero tweets and, rightly so, Air Canada seems to have no idea what they were talking about, despite these two things, it It's more likely that he made too many jokes about Owen Wilson: "I can't say anything, you guys are amazing, I love you and I want everything to be about you... Hi, I'm Owen Wilson" *laughs* "Owen Wilson hates this broadcast, click below to find out why! ""Just like Owen Wilson lives with his...car keys" *laughs* *Owen Wilson voice*"Wow!
These keys are great!" *laughs* "We've been ordered to... stop talking about Owen Wilson" "aaww" None of these jokes are offensive to any degree, however, he wanted to stop several times, but he still continued making the jokes and so on. he was banned from submitting races until 2018. Many people criticized GDQ saying that this really was an unnecessary ban and that if the race was so bad that they had to ban Bonesaw from our screens, why the video is still on his official YouTube channel? ?despite the backlash, he was never unbanned. He is now eligible to run again, however, it seems that while his ban is over, they simply won't accept his races.
He tweeted in 2018 that all of his races were rejected and unfortunately to this day we still haven't seen him return. "I'm enjoying my last GDQ, how about you?" *laughs* Before AGDQ 2016 was even underway, PvtCinnamonBun was already under the watchful eye of GDQ staff. This was due to a Tweet day saying "some of you ok, don't go to AGDQ in January", which was taken as a potential threat to the event. Although he was told before his race not to make offensive jokes or he would be banned on the spot, he managed to survive without doing anything wrong.
However, a year later, he found himself on the couch while playing Ape Escape 2. During the race, another member of the couch pulled out some hats to hand out and laugh about, seems harmless enough right? Well, not quite as GDQ has stated in their rather vague and questionable rules, any form of political demonstration shown on the stream will get you banned and one of the hats turned out to be one of Donald Trump's MAGA hats. They were

quick

ly told to take off their hats and they all obeyed and didn't think much about it. After the race, staff stopped PvtCinnamonBun and told him he had to leave.
When they asked him why, they told him that he was wearing a MAGA hat and that demonstrating political ideas on air is strictly within the rules, and they even told him that they had screenshots and proof of him wearing it. Seems fair right? Well, actually, when we look again, you see him wearing a mermaid hat and at no point does the MAGA hat even come close to his head. He was then unbanned from the event once he proved he wasn't wearing the hat, however GDQ really got mad at this guy and he was accused of pulling a plug out of the wall, which he completely denies and no one has ever

done

. . given proof that despite this he is completely excluded from the event.
Honorable mention: cyberdemon531 was also banned for wearing a MAGA hat. Thanks for watching this video. I'm still adjusting to making these types of videos, so comments are always welcome, as well as any other video ideas you like to see.
