2021 Genesis G80 – Redline: First Look

Apr 29, 2020
well hello and welcome back to my studio in my office just outside of the DC area. I'm here today because I wanted to show you a

first

look

video of the new, completely redesigned

2021

Genesis G 80. Remember this is a car that was previously known as the Hyundai Genesis that came out in 2008 there's an all new version Ronnie got an all new 3rd generation rear wheel drive platform so let's take a

first

look

to find out that an all new g80 era comes especially after Genesis just introduced the new GV 80 midsize SUV which was again based on 3rd generation rear wheel drive architecture and the G 80 was technically the oldest vehicle in the

genesis

lineup remember this car was It goes back to 2014 when Hyundai first redesigned the car, then it was known as the Hyundai Genesis, it was changed to the Genesis G and here in the United States in 2017.

Now, first I look at this all-new version. I must say that I only look at the car in person. This is a car that will definitely change a lot from it announcements when it goes on sale later this year apparently it will go on sale in Korea at the end of March so basically in the next few days of course here in the United States We'll be a few months late, but looking at the front fascia, if you liked what you saw in the GB 80 SUV, the G 80 sedan basically gives you everything you liked about that SUV, but they grafted onto a car a car frame instead. from an SUV platform now the crest grille is basically front and center this is the massive protection grill that

genesis

introduced on the g 90 last year it's accented by these dual line quad lights now by Of course, this is the familiar face of Genesis, it looks like the company has finally found its own unique style direction, I really like how it looks in these photos.

More Interesting Facts About,

2021 genesis g80 redline first look...

I saw the GV 80 SUV in person in March in January of this year and was impressed with the magnificent proportions of this car and I will say that compared to the G 90 which is the flagship sedan the front fascia definitely looks like the G 80 has been designed to incorporate this new design sculpture of athletic elegance, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the G 80 looks like in person whenever Hyundai or Genesis decide to flash the iden card at the upcoming Auto Show, which right now looks like it will be the New York show in August, assuming it's not canceled now under the hood of the next-generation G 80 you'll actually find: all new powertrains coming to the He claims it's true that Genesis has done away with the old V-6 engine from 3.8-liter, naturally aspirated and 3.3-liter twin-turbo engine and five-liter V-8.

Sadly, the V8 won't be back at least for now in this next-gen model in place of the base engine. it will be a 2.5 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder with direct injection this is the same engine that is making its debut in the Hyundai Sonata final line now in the Genesis trim it makes a smooth 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque which is a fair amount of power as a base engine especially when you look at the rest of this segment all engines will use an 8 speed automatic transmission and be ready rear or four wheel drive now of course if you want more power there is an all new twin turbocharged 3.5 liter V6 that's right it's a twin turbo 3.5 liter V6 it's a new engine design that's also unique to the Genesis in this application it'll make 375 horsepower so they're About 10 more horsepower than you had. the old 3.3 liter twin turbo and about 391 pound-feet of torque those are nice increases over the old 3.3 they still don't have as much power as the old 5 liter v8 but one can only hope the Genesis will eventually make a n version of this and maybe even like a twin turbo v8 which would compete nicely with cars like the bmw m5 or mercedes e63 now the v6 will also be paired with an 8 speed automatic transmission and i guess you can choose too, neither rear or all wheel drive now says Genesis.

Because it rides on a completely new platform, it uses a lot more aluminum compared to the previous generation, the company has been able to reduce the weight of this car by almost 250 pounds, which is a nice weight loss compared to the previous generation. with the previous generation which was already on the heavier side because I tested a sporty G 80 earlier this year and that one was about 4500lbs so this car with a 3.5 twin turbo po He would weigh a little over 4,000 pounds. In terms of weight, now that you look at the side profile of the new g80, you can see that this is a beautiful and attractive sedan that really does have a completely well-designed overall silhouette.
It really goes well with the front fascia with that ridge grill, Genesis says. there is a parabolic line that runs the entire beltline of the vehicle those dual line quad lights are actually carried through the front fenders where you can see the turn signals are the same sign as the headlights where you incorporate those twin LED strips looks very sleek again this car looks powerful looks bad looks athletic now Genesis says they kept the length of this car more or less the same so its wool base stays the same at one hundred and eighteen point five inches long and its overall length also stays the same at about one hundred and ninety six point seven inches long what they did was lower the height of this car about a half inch so again it's lower it's also wider at about a point four inches, so again I lowered the wider stance, but I was already at the longer end of the segment, so Genesis didn't need to make the vehicle ulo was longer.
The wheel sizes on this particular one here showed, of course, more photos of the car has 20-inch wheels with the same kind of classic five-spoke design that we saw on the 21-inch wheels that were on the GV 80, so what overall the side profile has that coupe like profile it looks real very sleek looks really powerful and the whole thing looks more like a flagship sedan above the g 90 so im looking forward to what makes it genesis to that car whenever they decide to redesign it in the next couple of years on the rear of the new g 80 you can see the design has a very tapered rear look and the quad dual lights carry over to the tail lights basically, which we saw in this design language on the GBA t SUV and the Refresh g90, there is a full LED design.
I also like how the dual exhaust tips have the same ridge grille shape as the actual exhaust. It looks like those exhausts aren't actually connected to the actual tips. Again, they're just some sort of exhaust trim finisher and trim, but at least they're not so fake is what's cool, you know some products. I really think the car has beautiful proportions. Very short front and rear overhangs. on sale on and this year i will really stand out remember all the german players are essentially whats the benchmark the audi a6 mercedes-benz e-class and bmw 5 series the japanese players are really getting lagging behind in this segment, so if the Koreans can get there and we really offer everything we love about the Germans at a substantial price this time around, this car is going to steal a big slice of this luxury midsize sedan pie which for Of course it's getting smaller and smaller as everyone continues to buy SUVs now moving on to the interior now obviously Genesis only posted a picture or two of the interior they didn't actually show us what the back seats look like but they did show us a very nice pic of the overall dash layout and if you liked what you saw inside the gid sedan GB 80 basically has the same thematic look the thing that will stand out the most when you first looked at the interior is that huge 14 and a half inch tablet style floating screen as you can see this is one of the biggest screens and the industry pretty much rivals the 15 inch screen you get on many Tesla products the model 3 and of course , the next model, why the instrument panel in front of the steering wheel also houses a digital display of twelve point three inches. which offers 3d views which is an industry first of course if you don't like 3d views you can also switch it to a 2d view and unlike most of the competition which has a Genesis sport steering wheel has been putting in a kind of luxury look for the spoked wheel which I didn't like the way it looked in the GV advert it looks a little better on this g80 sedan as you can see in this photo on particular that they showed like it has this really interesting texture here with the colors the real wood grain there's real metal trim it almost looks like it has a brown interior trim color with blue and black so I'm picturing the Genesis wall for several different options to choose from.
The Lexicons sound system in this car is of course one of the best in the big business as you can see there are metal covers for the speakers there is a lot of real leather there is a lot of real stitching the seats of course have some contrasting stitching going to be. Heated and cooled and the drivers side will offer a massage feature which again is a first for Genesis now the infotainment system as you can see I had a chance to sit in it when I was in the GB 80 it's also a touch screen or you can control it from that control panel that offers handwriting capability, it also offers Android auto and apple carplay, it will offer GPS with augmented reality that we've seen on some Mercedes products.
I haven't had a chance to test it. on a Genesis product but I would imagine when it goes on sale it will be one of the most high tech infotainment systems in the business now of course in the luxury space Safety is always a priority so you will get the full suite of Genesis safe safety systems including automatic emergency braking, it's going to have Highway Assist 2.0, it's going to also have adaptive cruise control with machine learning, so again it's coming up, you know, level 2, level 3, range where it will still require you to keep your hands on the road, but Genesis promises an even better feature to help relax or make driving easier when you guys are taking this thing on longer trips. new platform they've made the space really wider and it feels more spacious compared to the previous gen which by the way the previous gen even though it still had a very nice interior it had a 9.2 inch screen so So as you can see this new screen is almost double the size of the old screen so the Genesis is really blowing it away in terms of technology there are also 10 airbags in this vehicle so it's superior to the 7 or 8 which you get in most competition now of course.
If the current G 80 starts at around $42,000 for the base model at around $2,500 for all-wheel drive, they obviously haven't announced pricing for this vehicle, but they have announced pricing for the GB 80 SUV which starts at around 49 One thousand dollars. I'm going to estimate this new g80 sedan to start at around $45,000 so a couple thousand dollars more than previous variations still undercuts most of the German competition by eight to ten thousand dollars so You'll get incredible value of course, with any Genesis product and the company says this new version will be out later this year, assuming we can get through this pandemic where everything is in lockdown mode.
I imagine when it goes on sale it's going to be a very popular product in the industry again but I expect the GBA to be more in demand obviously compared to the G 80 but if you're looking for a midsize family sedan or a midsize luxury sedan that They don't want to spend they already know thousands more for German competition. I'm really looking forward to seeing this car and driving it in person when it finally goes on sale, but with all that said, I hope you enjoyed this first video on the
