Apr 29, 2020
Well, hello and welcome back to my studio in my office just outside the DC area. I'm here today because I wanted to show you a

first

video of the all-new, completely redesigned

2021

Genesis G 80. Remember that this is a car that was previously known as Hyundai Genesis, which came out in 2008, it has a completely new version. Ronnie got an all-new third-generation rear-wheel drive platform, so let's take a

first

look

to see that it was an all-new g80. especially after Genesis just introduced the new GV 80 midsize SUV which was again based on the third generation rear-wheel drive architecture and the G 80 was technically the oldest vehicle in the Genesis lineup.

Remember this car dates back to 2014, when Hyundai redesigned the car, then it was known as Hyundai Genesis, it was changed to Genesis G, announced here in the United States in 2017. Now

look

ing at this all new version for the first time, I must say That just by looking at the car in person, this is a car that will definitely turn heads when it goes on sale later this year; apparently it will go on sale in Korea at the end of March, so basically in the next few days, of course, here in the United States we will be a little delayed. a few months, but looking at the front fascia, if you like what you saw in the GB 80 SUV, the G 80 sedan basically gives you everything you liked about that SUV, but grafted onto a car, a car frame instead of an SUV platform, now the crested grille is basically front and center.

More Interesting Facts About,

2021 genesis g80 redline first look...

This is that huge protective grille that Genesis introduced on the g 90 last year. It's accented by these dual-line quad lights. Now this is, of course, the familiar face of Genesis. It seems like the company has finally found its own unique style direction. I really like how it looks in these images. I saw the GV 80 SUV in person in March, back in January of this year, and I was impressed with the magnificent proportions of this car and I will say that compared to the G 90, which is the flagship sedan, the front fascia, the G 80 It definitely seems to have been designed to incorporate this new design sculpture of athletic elegance, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the G 80 looks like in person whenever Hyundai or Genesis decides to show the card at the next Auto Show, which in This moment it looks like it will be the New York show in August, assuming it is not canceled now, under the hood of the next generation of the G 80 you will actually find. - all new powertrains coming to the United States, that's right, Genesis has done away with the old 3.8-liter V-6, naturally aspirated and twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-8, and five liters, unfortunately the V8 will not return at least for now in this Instead, in the new generation model, the base engine will be a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with direct injection.

This is the same engine that is making its debut in the Hyundai Sonata's final lineup. Now in the Genesis version it makes 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque which is a good amount of power as a base engine, especially when you look at the rest of this segment, all engines will use an 8-speed automatic transmission and They will be ready with rear or all-wheel drive now, of course, if they want. more power, there's an all-new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. That's right, it's a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. It's also a new engine design that is exclusive to Genesis in this application, it will make 375 horsepower, so that's about 10 horsepower more than which. you have the old 3.3 liter twin turbo and about 391 lb-ft of torque, those are nice increases over the old 3.3, but still not as much power as the old five liter v8, but we can only hope that the Genesis will eventually make a version no. of this and maybe even prefer a twin turbo v8 which would compete well with cars like the BMW m5 or Mercedes e63, now the v6 will also be paired with an 8 speed automatic and I guess you can take your pick too.

Neither rear-wheel drive nor all-wheel drive now, Genesis says that because it's riding on an all-new platform, using a lot more aluminum compared to the previous generation, the company has been able to reduce the weight of this car by almost 250 pounds, which what is good weight loss. Compared to the previous generation, which was already heavier because I tested a G 80 sport earlier this year and it weighed around 4,500 pounds, so this car with a 3.5 twin-turbo engine could weigh just over 4,000 pounds. It surpasses most of its German and Japanese competitors in terms of weight. Now if you look at the side profile of the new g80, you can see that this is a beautiful and attractive sedan that really has a completely well-designed overall silhouette.
It's really going well. with the front fascia with that crest grille, Genesis says there is a parabolic line that runs along the entire belt line of the vehicle, those dual line quad lights actually carry over to the front fenders where you can see that the signals turning lights have the same design as the headlights incorporating those twin LED strips looks very stylish again this car looks powerful looks means it looks athletic now Genesis actually says they kept the length of this car more or less the same so that its wool base remains the same at one hundred and eighteen point five inches in length and its total length also remains the same at about one hundred and ninety-six point seven inches in length.
What they did was they lowered the height of this car by about half an inch, so again it's lower and it's also wider by about a point four inches, so again I lowered the wider stance, but it was already on the more extreme end. along the segment, so Genesis did not need to lengthen the vehicle. The wheel sizes on this particular one here showed, of course, there are more photos of the car. 20-inch wheels with the same kind of classic five-spoke design that we saw on the 21-inch wheels that were on the GV 80, so overall the side profile has that coupe-like profile, it looks really elegant, it looks really powerful and Overall it looks more like a flagship sedan over the g 90 so I'm looking forward to seeing what Genesis does to that car whenever they decide to redesign it in the next few years on the back of the new g 80.
See, the design has a very tapered rear appearance and the quad dual lights are basically carried over to the tail lights, which we saw this design language on the GBA t SUV and the Refresh g90. There is an all-LED design. I also like how the dual exhaust. The tips have the same crest grille shape as the real exhaust, those exhausts appear to not be actually connected to the real tips, these are again just an exhaust trim finisher and trim, but at least they're not that fake. What you're good at, you know some products. I really think the car has beautiful proportions, very short front and rear overhangs, which gives it a very coupe-like look and I think this car when it goes on sale and this year it really is.
What will stand out, remember that all the German players are essentially what the benchmark is: the Audi a6, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5 Series. The Japanese players are really lagging behind in this segment, so if the Koreans can get ahead and really offer everything. We like the Germans at a substantial price, this time this car is going to steal a pretty big slice of this luxury midsize sedan pie which of course is getting smaller and smaller as everyone continues to buy SUVs and now we move on to the inside. Now obviously only Genesis was released. one or two photos of the interior, they didn't really show us what the back seats look like, but they did show us a very nice photo of the overall layout of the dashboard and if you liked what you saw in the GB 80, the interior of the gid sedan It basically has the same thematic look.
What will stand out the most when you first look inside is that huge 14 and a half-inch tablet-style floating screen. As you can see, this is one of the largest screens in the industry. practically rivals the 15-inch screen found in many Tesla products, the Model 3 and, of course, the next model, which is why the instrument panel in front of the steering wheel also houses a twelve-point-three-inch digital screen that offers views in 3D. one of the first in the industry, of course, if you don't like 3D views you can also change them to a 2D view and unlike most of the competition, which has something like a sports steering wheel, Genesis has been incorporating something like that. a fancy look for the spoke wheel that I didn't like the way it looked in the GV ad.
It looks a little better on this g80 sedan, as you can see in this particular photo that they showed, it has a really interesting texture here with the coloring of the real wood grain, there is real metal trim, it almost looks like it has a color of brown interior trim with blue and black, so I imagine the Genesis wall has several different options to choose from, the Lexicons sound system in this car of course is one of the best in the big business, you can see there are metal covers for the speakers, lots of real leather, lots of real stitching, the seats of course have some contrast stitching, they will be heated and cooled and the driver's side will offer a massage function, which again is a first for Genesis, now the infotainment, as you can see, I had a chance to sit on it when I was on the GB 80.
It's also a touch screen or you can control it from that control panel that offers handwriting. Capability, it also offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will offer GPS with augmented reality that we have seen in some Mercedes products. I haven't had a chance to try it on a Genesis product, but I can imagine when it goes on sale. It will be one of the most high-tech infotainment systems the business can have now, of course, in the luxury space. Safety is always a priority, so you'll get the full suite of Genesis safety systems including automatic emergency braking.
It will have a road. Driving Assistance 2.0 will also have adaptive cruise control with machine learning, so again everything is approaching level 2, level 3 autonomy, where it will still require you to keep your hands on the road, but Genesis promises an even better feature to help. Take peace of mind or make driving easier when you take this on longer trips. Obviously I can't comment on the interior space, but the company said that by switching to this new platform they made the space larger and more comfortable. more spacious than the previous generation which, by the way, the previous generation, although it still had a very nice interior, had a 9.2-inch screen, so as you can see, this new screen is almost double the size of the screen above, so Genesis is really killing it.
In terms of technology, there are also 10 airbags in this vehicle, so that's an increase from the 7 or 8 you get in most of the competition now, of course, the current G 80 starts at around $42,000 for the base model and around $2,500 for all-wheel drive. Obviously they haven't announced the price of this vehicle, but they have announced the price of the GB 80 SUV, which starts at around $49,000. I estimate this new g80 sedan to start at around $45,000, so a couple thousand dollars more than the last one. The variations still undercut most of the German competition by eight to ten thousand dollars, so of course you'll get excellent value with any Genesis product and the company says this new version will go on sale later this anus. year assuming we can get through this pandemic where everything is in lockdown mode.
I imagine when it goes on sale it will be a very popular product in the industry again, but I expect the GBA to get more demand, obviously compared to the G 80, but if you are looking for a midsize family sedan or a midsize luxury sedan who do not want to spend, they know thousands more for the German competition. I'm looking forward to seeing this car and driving it in person. when it finally goes on sale, but with all that being said, I hope you enjoyed this first look video at the
