2020 Honda CR-V - The Best Gets Even Better

Feb 27, 2020
Today I have a new and renewed

2020

Honda CRV with me. I've fallen in love with the CRV ever since I reviewed a 2019 model. It was spacious, comfortable, did pretty much everything right, and at the time I thought it was definitely the leader. in the compact SUV segment and I say compact lightly because in terms of exterior space it rivals some mid-size SUVs, but for the

2020

model year Honda decided to do an update now there are changes to the exterior changes to the interior more features of standard safety and more standard features overall, is this the

best

CRV ever and is it the

best

compact SUV on the market today?

We'll keep watching and find out first. I want to say a big thank you to Honda of La who made this video possible, so if you're in the market for a new or used Honda, be sure to check them out. Its URL is in the description below. Starting with the exterior, the 2020 CRV received an update to make it more aggressive and, in line with the competition, the CRV grille has been changed and darkened compared to last year's model and the lower bumper is completely different, the silver trim piece wraps black cladding and grilles on a lower bumper to make it look more like an angry mouth, in my opinion the Touring model receives LED headlights with auto on/off and most versions in addition to the base, Alex received new LED fog lights, the side of the CRV remains the same, but for the 2020 model year, the Touring version now has standard 19-inch alloy wheels that actually seem to fit perfectly.

The LX has 17-inch wheels, while the E EX and EXL have 18-inch wheels. You can see sculpted body lines on the CRV with the wheel arches sticking out at the top, you have aluminum roof rails and down below you have a shadow chrome trim that extends from the front to the rear bumper the rear of the CRV has been refreshed with smoked LED taillights and a revised lower bumper there is still a roofline spoiler on top followed by a large privacy glass the lower bumper has a lot of black cladding with a silver accent piece in the middle which imitates the front bumper.

The Touring is the only trim with dual chrome exhaust finishers. The XL and Touring are equipped with a power tailgate, but only the Touring is equipped with a hands-free feature that works every time the tailgate also does a good job of retracting if it detects something under the trunk. CRV and on both sides it has an elastic band to hold things on the bottom cover it has two settings, the default one is a little lower and underneath it is stored However, the spare tire can remove the cover and place it in a higher position, which is about three inches taller, this makes the cover sit flush to the back and makes the holes on both sides deeper.

Finally, on top you have a privacy cover to hide your stuff. As for the engine and transmission, the CRV has a 190-horsepower turbo four-cylinder engine that produces 179 pound-feet of torque. This used to be reserved only in the upper ditch, but that is no longer the case in 2020, this engine is now standard. In all versions, the engine is mated to a CVT transmission and moves to second gear. The opening of the doors is huge, having opened a full 90 degrees on the inside. You're greeted with plenty of black leather in this Touring trim and some wood trim. In the door panels, the second-row seat bags can be folded by pulling the lovers' ones.
The rear passenger has a pair of vents and a pair of USB ports. There are two sets of car seat latches and a spare set in the middle with the 2020 Honda CRV. There are four trim levels, the base is the LX, it starts a little over $25,000 and then you have the e XL and finally the Touring and that's what I'm reviewing today. The Touring starts at around thirty-three thousand two hundred and fifty dollars now. All trim levels have the same Honda Sensing safety suite and the same 190-horsepower turbocharged engine, but moving up to the E area and those of you are looking for Apple. carplay and android auto unfortunately not available for LX, you have to upgrade to yi -free wireless phone charger in the tailgate, larger 19 inch wheels, heated steering wheel and a few other things, okay.
I'm behind the wheel so let me show you the cabin and the features you'll find in this new 2020 CRV, starting with the steering wheel although this hasn't changed and this is shared across all Honda cars and SUVs and that's fine. I think this is a good steering wolf as a modern design, it has the right thickness and at a point 10 and 2 also the leather is slightly slippery, but I will let you know what this is like once I start driving. The button setup is also very similar on this side, this one controls the adaptive cruise control, which is part of Honda Sensing, which is now standard on all CRV models.
This is for lane keep system, this turns on or off and now it's standard for 2020 on the Touring edition, you have a heated steering wheel, now on this side you have volume control, phone control here, voice control and this and This basically controls the information display inside the indicator. group now in terms of gauge cluster, this is also shared, it looks very familiar, it looks like the pilot on the Odyssey and other Honda cars, now on the side, it has the temperature, this is for the fuel and the speedometer and the tachometer are now digital in the In the middle now, if you press this menu button here, you can scroll through your fuel trip computer navigation.
This is like drowsiness. How ER travels. This is to see what your unit is doing. Maintenance. Music. Phone. And changing the screen to km/h. It's pretty standard, you'll find this on a lot of cars, but everything is nice and big and no complaints now we'll be on the left side. You have some controls here. Electric traction control on the rear door. This is for pre-collision. is where the lane keep assist system is on this side, on this side you have some memory seats that are standard on the Touring models and then these are the controls for the windows and the mirrors, now in terms of windows that They automatically raise and lower for the driver and passenger only.
Now moving back to the center here on the infotainment screen, this hasn't changed and is shared with other cars like the Honda Civic. It's a touch screen interface and it's a little bit lagged, as you can see there's a slight lag there, but overall. It works and is easy to understand on the side. Here you have full Maps Audio going back and then you see them in the middle as well as some other things like smartphone connect app lists,

honda

link app lists now you can get Apple Carplay Andriano. They are standard, this is a tour edition so it has navigation, but

even

if you don't, you don't have navigation, you can use the navigation from your phone, that's really cool and you also have a volume knob here.
So that's it here, no, don't worry, now in terms of climate control it's a bit of a mixed bag. You see there's a weather button here. You press it shows some things like fan and air conditioning control mode, on or off, but you have fan. control here too, so the climate control is mixed between touch and physical buttons, you also have knobs, you have automatic sync over here and it's dual zone, so you can go up or down like the heated mirrors over here, like this like a little defroster. recirculation options and if you want to turn things on and off, there they go, three-stage heated seats for both the driver and passenger, these are standard on this Touring, as well as the heated steering wheel that I showed you, but there is no ventilated seats, that is not yet an option. on this CRV engine start/stop button here you have electronic brake and brake hold here, this is now new and standard on all automatic engine start/stop models, which will save some gas when stopping traditionally.
I'm not a fan of that, but it's now standard along with economy mode and a standard shifter which I love because Honda, you know, went the push-button shift route and I'm just not a fan of that. which takes getting used to on the CRV which unfortunately didn't change, although I've been watching videos about the hybrid version coming out next year, it seems like Honda gave in and put the buttons here, but I like this. you don't have to relearn it, the only difference with this one is that there is an S which is the sport mode, normally the sport modes are like a pack, you press this one, you have to switch to it and I will try it and So, you see, if I notice one difference, now I move down here, the center console.
This is where Honda made some dramatic changes and some really cool changes so let me show you what I'm talking about, first of all the USB ports were moved here, they used to be hard to get to the armrests inside but now they are here along with the wireless charging, this is now standard on tours as well, so you can turn it on and off and put your phone here, charge here whatever you want to do, this is a lot.

better

than before you have cup holders here and then let me show you the armrest so open it up and you have double shelves right now as you can see now this shelf also slides back so if you want more space here and there is a 12 outlet V, that's fine, but if you want

even

more space, you don't want that shelf at all.
Look, pick it up and take it off. Previously there was a shelf that you can remove, but then what do you do with the shelf? you just throw it somewhere now you don't have to worry about taking it off it just folds up and Honda is like a master at the center console and settings and stuff like that on the Civic the same way they did it was just brilliant and I think this is great too so kudos to Honda this is new and works great now in terms of seats like the leather rear seats they have a good design it looks like it's well bolstered so I'll let you know how.
This is felt once I start driving now in terms of the design, the door, the door design and the dashboard which remain the same. It has a good contrast as you can see the handles and the frames are aluminum it has some faux wood trim along with a black so you have some contrast there but this stays pretty much the same and then you move towards the center, here the dashboard, and you drive to the infotainment screen and all this configuration, the gauge cluster and the steering wheel in general. I still think this looks pretty good it still looks modern and stylish, it doesn't look too dated here, pretty standard, you've got some controls for the lights start link here and a control for the sunroof, which is normal, good, Let's take a walk and see how this brand works.
The new CRV is on the roads now. I remember reviewing the 2019 CRV, it was also on tour. I came away super impressed and at the time I didn't review that many cars yet, but I was thinking, wow, this is an amazing compact SUV and I still believe that at this point, it's a very quiet and smooth ride. The engine idling from the outside is a little noisy, but inside it is very quiet. Once you start moving, you can't hear the engine. Now, I admit, I'm going slow. I'm not stepping on the ground. I'll let you know if that changes once I get up to speed, but right now I can't hear the engine.
I don't hear any wind or road noise, none. It's just super quiet. here and it's very comfortable it's very comfortable the seats I feel are very comfortable they're holding me up right now the suspension is doing its job well so overall this is still very impressive now in terms of the driving position seating position you sit a little bit lower, this is on the lower side, it's not as tall as a mid-size SUV, but many of you will appreciate that it's definitely very easy to get into. I showed them two trunks, the elevation and the height of the trunk. it's very low so it's very easy to carry and put things in, put big things like luggage now in terms of safety features, those of you who are not familiar with Honda, their safety suite is called Honda Sensing and they are trying to implement it. for basically all models in every trim, the CRV is now standard on all trim levels.
I do not know how to do it. They are wizards who figured out how to use every inch of the interior and you get a lot of space. Honestly, this rivals many midsize SUVs in space and I'm not kidding about them being the seatrear, second row. I showed you a huge amount of space. I'm not a short guy, I'm five foot ten and I have a good six to eight inches of leg room, it's a compact SUV as is the head room and up here it's also very wide, very spacious, you don't feel tight at all, lots of head and shoulder room, as you can see I can do it no problem, it's just very roomy I don't know how I got it right, for me it was a bit slow.
Hey, this one uses a 190-horsepower turbocharged engine and is mated to a CVT transmission that simulates shifting, so it was actually a little slower. a little slower, remember, I thought this engine was okay, but let me try it in sport mode and see if it makes any difference because you know, I just finished reviewing a rav4 TRD off-road that had a little more power, 203 horsepower . but it was naturally aspirated and felt a bit quicker but maybe things will change once I put it in sport mode now in terms of steering yeah ok it has a good weight to it but there is some play as you can see, so Toma, it takes away from the feeling, but overall it's fine for most of you.
I think it's common for them to enjoy this, so I put it on sport mode. I'm lucky I don't have a sport button when they're downshifting. Be careful because it might go too low and go to L, so when you go to sport mode, yeah, I don't think that really made much of a difference. I felt the same. Honestly, a CRV in terms of power. I'm sure if you're trying to speed, take the highway, don't do this job, but it's a little slower. In my opinion, you know, I mentioned that the engine idles a little loud, but when I was cruising at low speeds I didn't really hear it, but when you just go and do it, stop and go and you're.
I'm just trying to celebrate that the engine makes noise, you can hear the engine and that's unfortunate because everything else is still very quiet, very quiet, so now that I'm going about 35 or 40 miles an hour there's still no noise, there's no road noise, but when you accelerate. You could hear the engine and it's not a good engine sound either and there is no exhaust noise. You know, one thing that I think other manufacturers have done a

better

job of is launching sporty variants of their compact SUVs to add a little more color, you know, more playfulness to their SUVs, where Honda has really kept it the same and It's pretty much the same with all Honda cars, but with the CRV, you know, I wish there were optional options, let's say these trends would be replaced. with let's say carbon fiber or maybe a different color or just aluminum you know something that's a little bit different and generally maybe has some red stitching or different color leather, that's where you know Toyota Subaru really embraced that and I think a lot of people love that because, for example, to force their sport, which I love, you know, it has a lot of orange within orange and black and it's done in an elegant way and it looks good, the same what Toyota would have done with the adventure. and also the TRD off road versions of the rav4, also the same thing you don't really get with the CRV, so I wish Honda would do it, you know, come out with some kind of version or even options to do. a little more lively and playful, you know, for the younger ones, the seats are quite comfortable, the bolster is just the right size at least for my back and they hold me in so I don't slip in terms of brakes.
They're a little bit stiff, a little bit stiff, which is a little bit strange because normally Honda is when I test, they're right in the middle, right in the middle, it's a linear field, this one is a little bit stiff, which means I think that I need to push down a little more to get the CRV to stop and that's a surprise actually now on the open road and I think the suspension is still pretty good, although I find a little spring. A little bumpy so when I was going at low speeds it felt great now that I was at higher speeds.
I feel the road a little more, it's definitely not bad, but I feel a little more for these imperfections that are the bumps in the road, the last thing I did. I'm not showing you the rear camera, so let me show it to you real quick. If you go in reverse, you can see that this is what's behind you, obviously with grid lines, but you can change the view to be a wider view, but you can still change it. like a less wide view, more of a linear view and then this is also looking down, so in case there are toys or something down there, you can see that as well.
Finally, let's look at the good and bad of this new CRV, starting with the good. The exterior update looks great, there is a huge amount of space inside. Honda Detection is now standard. There are more standard features on all models. The CRV delivers a quiet, comfortable ride, and finally, the redesigned center console is much more useful. The bad thing is also a few things: the engine makes a little noise, the basement is average, there is some play in the steering wheel, the brakes are a little stiff and, finally, there are no sporty or off-road versions generally available.
I'm giving the new 2020 Honda CRV a score of 95, which is one of the highest I've ever given, so if you want to see how the CRV stacks up against its peers, check out the driver-only ratings.
